this is brothers and sisters, a summary of the sound of mister saturday night records to date. the album brings together all the artists who’ve released on the label – alex burkat, anthony naples, archie pelago, boya, dark sky, general ludd, gunnar haslam, hank jackson, keita sano and lumigraph – combining music made specifically for this record and tracks that have until now only been available on vinyl. jbla came into being after julian jöckel (midnightopera) and stuart argabright (ike yard, black rain, o13) performed at a party in brussels on the 5th of oct. 2012 on invitation from bernardo risquez & michael langeder (different fountains). they all had met for the first time the year before through michael kreitz from meakusma when different fountains & o13 played concerts in eupen. after staying at different fountains studio the day after the brussels event they set up a rather improvised jam session. julian played synth on a yamaha dx7, bernardo worked the low frequencies on an old eminent organ while michael contributed machine sounds and took care of the live fx engineering. stuart put together some words and brought a beat to the occasion of the jam session at the df studio. during the short euro tour with ike yard, l.i.e.s label head ron morelli and artist svengalisghost came to the paris show and were talking with stuart about the streetwalkers of belleville, specifically the sad chinese hookers out on the street. combined with news about recent foxxconn workers suicides in china and witnessing altercations close to the air bnb where he stayed. the belleville ep are two cuts from that session with remixes from ron morelli + svengalisghost and vereker, pressed on translucent vinyl.

opening up the release is *der groove günther*, a stripped back bit of rubbery, supple techno. the groove sure is infectious, but it’s the way its detailed with such curious sounds – metal twangs, squelchy chords, icy hi-hats – that makes it so engaging. on the remix, tinush reimagnes the track as an even weirder thing. it’s all about micro-evolving details, subtle and inherent funk and keen sound design that is part shiny and stiff at the same time as being elastic and bendy.

its been two years since pawas gupta contributed an enchanting remix on sirions first vinyl release. constant communication and cooperation lead to this all in all accomplished project called >huis huis ep<. pawas productions start off smooth and impress with delightful elements and perpetual dynamic. the development of each track is rarely predictable. tempting the act of prolonged anticipation is a delicate one and leads further and further into remote realms. carried into the sec repetitive parts by finely tuned synth-boosts makes us realize the force briefly before being caught up in the hypnotic sounds again. propelling deep house with a pinch of funk and a touch of detroit - the classic yet brilliant pawas style! moon harbours chris lattner needs no long introductions. releases on nrk, einmaleins, fear of flying and luna records speak for themselves, are proof of a successful and active time. the dry yet truly ideal base frame for subtle but succinct modules for this remix is its effective substance. the static sub bass, fulminate and with an enormous thrust, is reminiscent of the miami bass age - virtuous modulations, the very complexion of mr lattner. he remains true to himself, we like!
