when i was 10 years old my father took me to a flea market in a very small city up north in sweden, pitea. there was a little bit of everything being sold there: ski equipment, comics, porcelain figurines and vinyl. it was there and then i came across autobahn by kraftwerk. the thing is, we didn t have a turntable at the house we stayed in, on those cold winter weeks so i had to wait until we came back home to give the record a proper spin. in my mind i played it several times and i thought it was amazing. i imagined it was music from the future. what i thought when i heard it for real? didn t like it at all. the very same feeling i imagined autobahn would sound like is the one i get after listening to ishi vu s debut on omena. these five tracks, you could call it an album if you like, are playful, quirky, dreamy and very addictive. like finding a new friend you know you want to keep for a very long time.

having issued a mini album from fuxa earlier this year, stuart leaths tireless emotional response welcomes the detroit band back to the label with an album recorded alongside neil mackay of loop fame. apollo soyuz was originally released digitally earlier this year via bandcamp, but you can see why leath would want to license it for a proper vinyl edition. the eight tracks form an exploration of the outer cosmos that is tinged with a deep psychedelia that will resonate warmly with fans of emotional response. from the space funk of the opening apollo soyuz, fuxa and mackay lead the listener through galactic kosmische, spatial ambience and primal tape loop experiments and more with testz 1 a considered highlight.

here comes the heavy remix package to lake peoples much praised debut album purposely uncertain field. with redshape, lawrence and map.ache three remixes were carefully chosen who would be able to bring their own distinctive sound to the table, but also treat the original tracks respectfully. redshape catapults -illuminated- into the orbit of the red planet, where it rotates in a trippy and hypnotic way. lawrence is drifting red but stays closer to the sun. the dial boss keeps things lighter and brings some bells and a steady bass drum to dinner and knows how to mesmerise. leipzig buddy and kann records co-founder map.ache shifts up a gear with his remix for cooping. twisted vocals and a bouncy bassline make his remix a darling on the club floor and rounds things consistently up.

who said that there is no techno in bavaria? not only the bavarian based label itself as a kind of lighthouse for the more energetic sounds deep in the bavarian heart is a proof, also the young and crazy dirty basscore is emerging from there with his very own, unique, freaked out, crazy, uncomprimising style. compared to his outlets so far this one might not be the craziest and freaked out stuff he did, but for sure this is a massive debut and introduction of his trademark and unlimited talent here on credo. perfectly timed and playable tunes with only one goal: working on the dancefloor! and as this wouldnt be enough we even top it with an excellent repaint by another bavarian techno-stallion. klaudia gawlas, who probably doesn t need any introduction, delivered a superb interpretation of the titletrack.

tom middleton and mark pritchards 76:14 is one of the 90s most acclaimed electronic albums, while a cast of aliases (reload, jedi knights and more) also orbited the project. their last record came out in 1997, and although there was a live reunion in 2010, the new material we were promised is yet to emerge. pritchards nowhere to be seen on this remix of duskys skin deep (its middleton flying solo), but its still an occasion. according to dusky, we knew we wanted someone special and we knew we wanted someone who would get to the heart of the melodies and textures in the breakdown. tom has totally delivered, creating something that draws on the heritage of the ambient sound, but also feels current and modern.

marc cerrone became the star of incredible live experiences in paris and elsewhere. as if, after having spent the first step of his musical career elaborating his repertoire, he’d chosen to devote the second one to make it live permanently. firstly on stage, then through younger generations: when bob sinclar samples his music or invites him to collaborate, it’s a new way for cerrone to keep his main ability alive: make crowds dance. a talent which most of his younger fans - todd terje, prins thomas, james murphy and a whole generation of cosmic disco lovers - agree to and get inspiration from. from 1976 to 2014, cerrone, whose discography makes so many others jealous, never stopped playing and keeping his beat which he considers vital. and if disco music had to be summarized to one artist, one creator, it would be him and nobody else. this exclusive double lp sounds like a tribute to his prolific discography, containing incredible remixes talented producers. a cd with all tracks is included.

the first years, from his first album in 1976 to his 7th in the middle of the 80’s, were fuelled with an exemplary sense of creativity and a free-spirit vision. against everyones advice, cerrone was never reluctant to compose long and pure trance disco tracks, not exactly radio-friendly at the time, but which did incredibly well because they encapsulated the hedonism of the day and were far more than a trend. for instance, love in c minor and supernature have become unbeatable classics, featured regularly in the best pop, disco or dance selections, such a success would have burnt most of the others wings, whose career would have been ruined. at the beginning of the 80s, when he decided to unleash his creativity on stage, cerrone managed to rebound with you are the one studio album.

the new record follows 2013s at the back of beyond, which was warmly received creatively and commercially, and inspired ntjam to perform throughout holland and across europe. that was an album that was a part of me, and that needed to explore my poppy side, she says. im grounded in jazz and soul, and pop. but as a songwriter, i really needed to go through that album to learn how to play the guitar, to see and hear what kind of songs i would write, and also to put the guitar on the palette literally being able to pick the guitar up to write.

we continue our 10yrs 8bit series with a super double by nick curly! reverie ep is a timeless quality release as you would expect it from the label head. reverie, the a-side, hooks with a deep bass and straight drums, leaving space for an evolving arrangement of tribal sounds and laser beams shooting through the club. all people is a pumpin b-side that takes over the floor with solid grooves and deep filter chords, made to be played at the peak. these tracks will work any crowd and once more show what the 8bit label stands for: just quality music.

marquis hawkes returns with a new ep for houndstooth, sweet. pairing up a sugary r&b sample with his signature swinging but slamming beats, opening cut when i get home is a return to the flavour of last year s summer smash cant find a reason, although this time around, it s more tracky and introspective. next up, a different facet of hawkes production talents is reprised with at the witness stand, a trippy take on classic ny freestyle. opening the b-side, title track sweet furthers hawkes trademark rough and ready house sound with distinctive vocal hooks and a hip-twitching rhythm, whilst bringing up the rear, what a relief is a raw but inescapably funky drum workout that would make the likes of traxmen & eric martin proud.

matt edwards (radio slave) returns to his rekids label under the guise of b.a.d.s (berlin amateur dramatics society) - a new project cooked up with spencer parker and francesco de nittis aka mr ties, in order to release this track he made especially for an appearance at de nittis homopatik party at berlin s about blank last year. since debuting the track it has gone on to become not only an anthem for the part itself (the a capella has become a regular a favourite mr ties opener for homopatik sets), but a goto crowdpleaser for the handful djs such as nina kraviz who have drawn for its infections energy over the past year. imbued with the with all the infamous mischief of homopatik and the historical clubbing lineage the party is rooted within within, hous-o-matik hom-o-patik does everything you would expect it to: it gets the party started. b.a.d.s will return later in the year with spencer parker and mr ties own versions of the track

food music welcomes a1 bassline to the label to release his first lp - technicality. the album’s title draws from the club night “technicality”, a monthly drum & bass night at herbal in east london, which is run by chris inperspective and continued the sound of early reinforced and metalheadz records as well as pushing new forward thinking music. the album is centred around growing up as a teenager discovering this jungle/drumfunk sound through his college friend rahim (lab creation), where the likes on fold, ben ufo, breakage would attend the club. in addition to well received records on dirtybird, pets recordings and his collaborative work with leon vynehall as laszlo dancehall, the album is a stamp on a1’s sound and his influences from his teenage years to growing up and discovering house and techno.

transmitting from new york (via toronto), jex aka jex opolis has so far been known as the man behind and in front of the good timin label. infamous for its boogie burner bombs to quote discogs member kutter karlo jex, trades his label for running back and a shifts the gear. up with the tempo and down with the lights, there still is a variety of styles. studio e is named after an after hours spot in edmonton that the record s author partied at in the early 2000s, also sounds like something ivan smagghe would have enjoyed at that point in time. laxmi tool is referencing classic tribal house and a street in pune, where jex wifes grandma bought the drum used in this track. on the flip, harpa brags and boasts with its trampoline bass line, while la casa surfs some timpani waves.

out on the floor firecrackers that ignited the northern soul boom on soul for dancers, journalist (mojo, record collector) and r&b authority lois wilson takes a trip back in time to the rare soul scene s roots, to where it all began if you like. many of the 32 tracks on this 2lp vinyl set (selected from the 61-track 2cd compilation) filled the floor at manchester s the twisted wheel and london s the scene club, both precursors of the wigan casino, blackpool mecca, the golden torch in stoke et al. the sparks that lit the fuse, these early triumphs would give rise to an era defining scene, one which became a treasured subcultural phenomenon.

a new four track ep by hexagon aka conforce on his own imprint. doing what he does best. making deep imaginary techno music with otherworldly authentic atmospheres without any concessions. the title track sucks you into desolate interstellar territories paying hommage to 606 rhythms with emotive strings on top that determine the total atmosphere of this killer advanced electro cut. human meets machine in it s purest form. pitch black leans on accurate programmed heavy broken percussive patterns and is the most functional track of the ep. functional but it s haunting atmosphere lifts this to a different dimension. continuum dives deeper into sonic territory with a mysterious stealth missional vibe caused by it s unpredictable sparkling crispy effects and mysterious pads. systematic repetition leans on pulsating modular bleeps and dubby basses and is the most techno orientated cut of the whole ep. it wouldn t be a conforce record if there weren t any strings and pads attached to it.

ahead of their highly anticipated debut lp due on golf channel this fall, the berlin duo drop this little taster. the heavy, percussion driven analogue sound that is their trademark comes in two tight packages. the title track is all snaky rhythms and squelchy riffing and comes complete with exactly the kind of dense, break heavy remix that we would expect from compatriot, and top buddy of the band, wolf muller. flipside revanche is a sunnier affair, deft touches on the acoustic guitar and lighter percussion, but no less the party starter because of it. golf channel every time !

moscow label grow continues in fine creative form, seemingly not sticking to a motive or trend but rather concentrating on the strength of character within the music it releases. for the labels eighth release the artist is berlin based the marx trukker, who over the last 10 years has been developing his very distinct sound and recent output on labels like pluie/noir, the untold stories, and most recently noorden, have all been especially impressive. now on grow comes the 4 track vinyl * heavens crackling*, from the title one is expecting something awesome, and the album does not disappoint, right from the off, the first track: * a time well spent*, begins with celestial tones ringing out and the performance develops with great synth work, enlightened and very enlivening, spring is in step and something is beginning. the record continues at such a level throughout, overflowing with rich tones, warmth, and raw sounding percussion. in the second track, * all the boating still a tide to go*, deep warm bass and strings reverberate, as if amidst a hot harbours summer, then the ethereal synths return as magical breezes of cooling wind on a june day. on the bside comes the title track * heavens crackling*, the tone has cooled, there is an autumnal vibe, extended tones of an eerie but reassuring nature provide the ground, from under which a molten bass flows playfully. the final track, * i do anything but its so cold*, as the title would suggest, again time has passed, gone are the warm relaxed echoes of the the opening tracks, winter has come, and a strong percussive energy becomes the driving force of an especially deep and more introverted last track. in heavens crackling there is an uncanny understanding of time passing and representation of being, its present in the patience and performance within every track, and the effect of the album, which seems, like the seasons, to naturally come full circle, is for the listener indeed to experience a time well spent. top marks for the marx trukker!

jack cutter is a songwriter and guitarist based in the san francisco bay area in california. he started with a $5 banjo just after finishing high school. in university, during the late 60’s, he performed with bar bands in buffalo, new york. after completing university and a year as an aerospace engineer, he decided that attack helicopters were not really what the world needed and so he headed off to california in pursuit of music and mystic times. fast forward to fall 2014: jack is playing his quintessential tune, ‘gift of our fathers’ in the sf bart subway to an onslaught of morning commuters when he was spotted by 40 thieves. eureka! love at first sight and in the next few months, two of jack’s original acoustic pieces were given the 40 thieves treatment. enter david sanderson aka david harks, a singer, songwriter, producer and label curator from the east sussex region of the uk. ‘having fallen in love with the cosmic boogie (of 40 thieves classic ‘backward love’) i really felt i would love nothing more than to write a tune with them. layne got back in touch with a track he was working on entitled serpent strut with jack cutter and we worked via email over a few months to brew up that misty soul.’ deep, stony, psychedelic, drawing from the well of hawkwind, joni mitchell, david crosby, baffo banfi and tolkien-tinged acoustic led zep, the proof of concept is now complete and in the capable and loving hands of claremont 56.

avian s first release since absorbing its sister label mira comes from chicago based musician connor camburn under the alias litüus, with an entirely beatless collection that well establishes avian as the home for the kind of searching electronic experimentation that would have been found on the ten-inch focused imprint that shifted recently announced would merge with its parent label. the ep follows previous cassette releases under the litüus name for brave mysteries, notice recordings and mazurka editions and comprised entirely of real time single-take recordings on hardware instrumentation. shorn of percussive elements yet not without their own rhythmic structures, camburn s six compositions are free of immediate electronic genre influences and instead draw primarily on non-musical inspiration in addition to various other contextual reference points, as he sought to express ideas of the unraveling or -de-composition- of musical or architectural spaces through musical forms imagined as inverted contours and negative spaces.

when people think of tuff gong they usually think of bob marley and rightly so, as he was nicknamed and often called tuff gong and from this his early releases which came out on the tough gong label. but tuff gong was also the name of a recording complex named after bob marley hat included a top level recording studio, pressing plant and distribution centre that would allow reggae music to carry on many years after his sad and too early demise. we focus for this release on the work carried out by the great scientist on the songs of the black solidarity label run by ossie thomas (aka joe the boss) recorded at tough gong studios. one of the foremost recording, pressing and distribution facilities on the jamaican island set up from the work of bob marley to carry forward reggae music. hope you enjoy this set.

after a furious release by atlantis’ best kept secret cuttlefish & asparagus entitled hang on in there, kalakuta soul records meticulously puts a new twelve together you’d want to throw your hands upon immediately. always referring to sadar bahar as one of the most influential cats to their work, the crew behind the label hasn’t stopped crying ever since they received the tracks. and although we’ve pinched them a couple of times, they still can’t seem to believe this really is coming true. can you? now it surely isn’t the first time the world’s coolest cat has released a couple of his rare edits. but you surely are still dancing and sweating to his unforgettable chicken wing edits series and have been wondering, what this guy’s been doing. well, soul in the hole’s true soul and dj’s dj sadar bahar has been travelling around the world giving everybody a serious lesson in soul music that he calls disco beatdown. some brothers would also name sadar’s ceremonies “exorcism-, which pretty much leads us back to the tracks released on this fantastic sounding 12&#8243,,,, disco single.

originally released back in 2006 destination boogie has been one of zr s most popular and respected compilations. in fact we recently reissued it on vinyl for the first time. there s a lot of crappy edits out there, we believe these dr packer reworks are very worthwhile, well constructed new versions that make the tracks more playable for today s dancefloors whilst retaining their boogie tastic musicality. since the album was released the whole edit culture has exploded so we thought it would be a nice idea to get one of the best, dr packer, to rework four of the most danceable cuts from the album. we at zr hq think he s done a great job on these.

100% dynamite explores the links between reggae, jazz, funk and soul. the album is jam-packed with reggae tunes that have crossed-over and become cult dancefloor hits in clubland such as >greedy g<, >rocksteady< and >granny scratch scratch<. fourteen tracks of music that show the influence that american jazz, funk and soul music has had on jamaican reggae. the proximity of the west indies to the usa meant that many jamaican musicians would continue to be influenced by american styles of music whilst at the same time continuing to define new styles of their own such as ska, rocksteady and dub.

three tracks here evoking familiar feelings heard before but still somehow they all sound fresh and drag you in wanting for more. as if this wouldn t do it, there is first but, not last appearance for barba label by mighty jtc who needs no further introduction delivering a remix. this time he cleverly uses sparse but recognizable parts of title track which he then transforms into relentless floor shaker where detroit meets chicago, if any such comparison needs to be made. aquatic stuff !

500 only, tresor records is fortunate enough to be sitting on a catalogue of past releases that no other label in electronic music would turn down. three of the finest in this collection were albums contributed by surgeon, * basictonalvocabulary*, * balance* and * force + form* all originally came out on the berlin institution between 1997 and 1999. surgeons inimitable combination of detroit techno and post-industrial sounds emanating from his british homeland found its fullest expression in these masterful trio of releases on tresor. the balance remakes 12” accompanied surgeons second tresor album in 1998, with additional versions as well as a remix by long-time birmingham collaborator mick harris.

the dance is the result of a long lasting musical love affair between kontra-musik s ulf eriksson and sebastian mullaert (aka minilogue). as most love affairs, it started off as an exciting experiment: ulf would play records and sebastian would bring out his music gear and play a live set. as they were touring with this live concept, their sounds started to really integrate, and after one especially fine night at trouw, amsterdam, ulf and sebastian decided it was time to conceive the dance. once the decision was taken, everything else came naturally. the dance was to be recorded live, in one take, at kontra-musik s home field inkonst, malmo, sweden.

stepping up for the second ep on brame & hamos own imprint splendor & squalour is top boy hamo with his debut solo ep -the cotton club. with his partner brame he has already released staggering eps on dirt crew recordings and dam swindles own heist recordings. a fierce rise in the deep house community for sure! we already had a small taste of hamo s solo productions on the clockwerk ep that was released beginning of this year as the first ep on splendor & squalour. now we are giving you a full 5 tracker with a remix from box aus holz/ torben boy kickflip mike. the ep kicks off with title track - cotton club - a jazzy deep house jam, keeping the hip hop vibe present. up next is -wonce- which is a little bit more on the melodic side. we would also like to welcome more of our sligo family to the label with this side up, the hip hop trio is featured as third on the a side with the straight hip hop track in control. on to the b side we have the brilliant kickflip mike adding a much clubbier vibe to -wonce- a real early mornings bomb. to close the ep hamo has given us black lodge, a dusty house groover with delightful hi-hats and very clever sampling going on as in all his works, solo or with his homey brame.

nice price deal !!! cymawax explores the far reaches of our sonic galaxy with its next 12 inch only release, an exciting seven song set from evocative uruguayan-norwegian vocalist camilla luna. camilla is known as one half of luna & bazis on wahwah45s, with producer friend bhlb, and as vocalist for trulz & robins releases on eskimo and dance disorder’s ”metallic italic“ (bpitch control). her years of improvising vocals with musicians and djs at renowned oslo clubs like blaa, jeager, and the villa have given camilla a knack for accompanying electronic rhythms with haunting, tuneful melodies. for the open up ep, camilla joins producer bhlb for soulful and raw vocals recorded in one take over futuristic, bass-heavy, and delightfully offbeat tracks. the styles and tempos vary wildly, but the sound throughout is unified in a deceptively organic ex machina woman-meets-machine vibe. in the title cut, the almost tribal percussion summons exotic, benevolent spirits when combined with camilla’s temptatious crooning. the twisted r&b of ”wut r u gwonna do“ could almost be a secret collaboration with the likes of flying lotus. and ”f.o.c.- transmits a slightly intimidating techno stomp that would make all heads on the dance floor turn towards the dj and immediately take notice. these are just a few of the otherworldly audio nuggets found within the open up ep … there are more treasures to unveil. excavate soulfully.

from the tropics comes whiskey disco, a sneaky re-edit label bent on dredging the decanter for diffident dancefloor genius from latent disco perpetrators. it is loosely connected to sleazy mcqueen and his assorted cohorts.
olivier boogie returns to the fold with i know you care ep, the follow up to to his provocative first ep, wd27. the spectrum is as wide as one would expect from the famed dutch selector, uptempo and high energy cuts include the swirling speed of come inside and crescendo building loops of i know you care. to balance, we slow down for deep sexiness found between the notes of how high and rollerboogie funk of watch your step.

magic waves brings us the first full-length ep from the enigmatic and secretive jax dax. ‘retribution’ is a dark record that breathes a breath of fresh (rotten) air into techno, re-connecting it with its new beat and rave roots, and presenting the kind of hammers that would surely make the likes of joey beltram or mental overdrive proud while bringing any dancefloor or illegally-occupied warehouse to its knees. watch out for this record, it’s limited and hotter than hell!

limited to 100 copies hand-stamped 12 inch.return to disorder is the new label from hamburg producer and dj helena hauff, known for her dark brand of ebm and electro-infused music and without doubt one of the best selectors currently playing in clubs. the act responsible for the debut release from return to disorder is children of leir, a leicester-based psych rock outfit whose influences come from mystical horror. not the sort of music one would immediately associate with hauff s floor pummelling dj sets and a hint that return to disorder will be dictated by hauffs tastes as opposed to a need to satisfy the beat. the four tracks present here are a fine introduction to children of leir, with their feedback-laden sound perfectly enhanced by the mastering skills of pete sonic boom kember.

uk funk connoisseur duke slammer takes the driving seat on the 303-fueled ‘bangkok skytrain’, with remixes from moscow based simple symmetry and returning artist tony g. inspired by tropical heat, bangkok skytrain utilises 303s, analogue drum machines and mixes in field recordings taken from an excursion to thailand. the result is a heady concoction of warm basslines and humid atmospheres, with a groove reminiscent of early 90’s melodic techno and a cheeky drum track that wouldn’t be out of place on a larry heard record. simple symmetry, the lipski brothers from moscow, slowly rebuild layers of the track like a locomotive building up momentum, and in typical style simple symmetry style finding the perfect vocal sample and pan pipes that help propels you into the foreign lands. before you know it the track is pumping at full chug! tony g’s take goes a bit further afield than the original. a dub rhythm sets the picture in outer-space. hihats stutters like cosmic dust rickashading off the nosecone of the space ship while longing strings take us deep into a distant nebular before the 303 bring the thousands of new galaxies into view. definitely music to listen to in the dark! look out for the secret dancefloor weapon ‘just drums’, an industrial drum machine workout for the freaks!

carl finlow could be regarded as one of the cornerstones of not only 20/20 vision, but also of british electronic music. his boundary pushing, electro-tinged productions under the random factor alias make for essential 20/20 listening, as does his work as 1/4 of 2020soundsystem. while this year has been about looking to the future of the label, we also felt it was important that we looked deep into our history and revisited one of our all time classic records: random factor – broken mirror. on the a side carl has prepared a new ‘revisted’ version for this release and this is accompanied by the original version from 1999. for the remixer we thought long and hard about someone we felt would be suitable. someone with pedigree in the electro scene, who would feel as passionate as we do about making this release something truly special. there was only really one person we wanted and luckily when we contacted legowelt he was a big fan of the original track and was super keen to get onboard the project. we hope you enjoy these two pioneers of the electro scene going head to head x
