a little less than two and a half years after its conception—and close to 30 singles, one compilation, one mix cd and one sublabel later—berlins mobilee releases its first artist album. naturally, who better to represent the milestone than pan-pot, who so far have delivered five essential singles to mobilee, helping to anchor the ever-shifting sound of one of europes most exciting labels. in just two short years, with 10 singles (for mobilee and einmaleins musik) and lots of remixes, theyve become known far and wide for their distinctive, groovy, and above all ominous sound. pan-o-rama finds the boys stretching that sound in every possible direction: twisting, tearing, and using the shreds to drag a wide swath of techno history into the future (and, just maybe, to drag a few pieces of techno future back into the past). call it minimal if you must, but this aint no clickity-clack shit. you can hear the agonized gurgle of isolationist acid, reminiscent of plastikmans darkest nights. you can hear the percolating urgency of classic bleep techno. tried and true hardware collides with restless digital experimentation as dance musics dna worms its way into twisted new shapes. pan-o-rama is dark, thats for damned sure. eerie vocals that seem to come from within the listeners own head creep across the stereo field. throughout, restrained minor-key melodies conjure 21st century noir, and a relentless low-end rumble seems to suck up all the light around it

every new record from mlz doesnt quite fit in with the one that preceded it, something thats doubly true for this new release.
>one cycle< on the a-side is probably the most fierce, stripped and relentless thing ever released by modern love, a classic reduction that rotates into a frenzied crescendo of panning stabs and a washed out, chugging backbone that doesnt let-up throughout its 7 minute duration.
the flipside offers up something else entirely, a remix for hitherto unknown operator dj ghosthunter, a shady character not quite ready to unmask himself. mlzs remix offers a dank and obliterated house configuration, guided by the spirit of theo parrish and kdj.

the third release on phonica records is a no-nonsense dancefloor burner from matt tolfrey and d. ramirez, with a stunning remix from lauhaus. >bounce to me< is an exquisitely stripped-back jack track, propelled along by clipped vocal samples, deep chord stabs and funked-up percussion - as the title suggests, its all about the bounce. thats really all you need to know: this piece of music has been built for the sole purpose of dancefloor devastation and will do the job every time. matt tolfrey is the boss of leftroom recordings and one of the uks most compelling young dj/producers, with releases on crosstown rebels and viva music among others. d. ramirez is of course the sheffield-based producer behind numerous hit tracks for labels like four:twenty and his own slave recordings. the flipside remix comes from underground hero lauhaus, a dutch producer whos made quite a name for himself with his muscular productions for labels like remote area and intacto. here he toughens and tightens tolfrey and ramirezs original >bounce to me< into a rolling techno groove, adding real drama and forward thrust with crisp hi-hats and stacatto percussion. the soundtrack to late summer has arrived. bounce!

a fresh new collaboration with some top notch house tracks on this split release. agnes probably needs no introduction after his recent release on plak and running his own sthmllaudio, and he delivers all quality. big revelation on this 12 is jonny white with his tikkun olam... already a office favorite here at clone... we keep playing this over and over... somehow reminds of old deeper house tracks by mr fingers (athmosphere and basslines) but with modern productions skills. killer track and killer split release with some forward thinking house music thats embracing the future, without forgetting the past! recommended!

the first release features nobody else than the nice guy and techno-preacher eric sneo (masters of disaster / beatdisaster) from frankfurt, germany. after a lot of smashers on well known labels like kombination research, clr, patterns and abstract, eric is now back on driving forces recordings with a massive 2 tracker. on the a side you can find a mainstyle braincracking track called vintage force which will drive the crowd totally crazy. with a rolling beat, the sneo typical driving percussion and a wicked leading sound, this one will heat up every mainstage all over the globe. the b side features a track called coming home, a dark and evil bassmonster with a tiny percussive melo, strong enough to break down the walls of all the clubs out there. modern techno for the peaktime is what you get. it lets you forget the hype about the minimal kind of music. next to the austrian local heroes, a number of big names of the international techno circus were signed and thats why a good and diversified start of the label will be sure.

lets have fun! - thats the mantra of big zis and the crew of nation music. the swiss black music label has been broadening its musical spectrum over the past years. just like the artist big zis, whose music could most likely be labeled electro pop alternative punk rap, they dont care about common conventions. while rap becomes more and more pimped out, house loopier and minimal narrow-minded, big zis hooks up with a top-class troupe to get it her own way. for her most recent album und jetz … (and now …) she worked with marton di katz and valentino tomasi (both members of kalabreses famous rumpelorchester), who laid the musical foundations for most of the songs. for the impulsive electro on the track suure räge (acid rain) however, big zis collaborated with the techno producer michal ho (tuningspork) at the studio. suure räge got remixed by several well-known producers: robag wruhme (freude am tanzen) and canson (gs zürich) are to be found on volume 1 and the soul brothers lexx (aka kawabata / drumpoet) and kalabrese (stattmusik) successfully combat boredom on volume 2. the sound scapes of the remixes couldnt be any more diverse and cover a broad variety of styles. and be sure: volume 3 - work in progress - will delight you as well

tube10 returns to the scene again with a release to blow your minds away. this time its the greek formation ekelon. their debut on planet mu with headhunter on mary anne hobbs evangeline had us in our grasp so much that we couldnt help ourselves then to hit them up and see what whould happen. tube10 005 is the result of this encounter and it shows ekelon flexing their crossover sound like no other. is it techno? is it dubstep? we dont know but we sure as hell love both tunes to bits!
the a side evidence - a steady tune in the ekelon sets and lots of others aswell. feel this tune filling up the speakers and rumbling up those subs we thought where lost.. a perfect blend between all that is experimental while keeping it dj friendly..flip it over for freeze land.. an chilled out tundra of techno, thats how we like to call it.. frozen subs combined with defrosted stepping vibes ensures this to be a solid first release for the ekelon boys.. and dont worry this wont be their last!

in spring of 2006, jackpot began to fester in a stockholm apartment. without fresh air or natural light, the group developed its uniquely mutant strain of italo disco mixed with early 80s body music aided only by the sickly blue rays of late night tv. while the jackhammer rhythms of their music were proliferating in stockholm, jackpot dove into the deepest recesses of the electronic dance music psyche for the most primal of all rhythmic impulses - their own unmistakable sound - the sound of western culture falling apart in a blaze of shudders and hiccups. as late night sci fi reruns colored the room, jackpot also picked and chose amongst the psychotic debris of previous eras - the movies of kenneth anger, the music of suicide, velvet underground and bruce haack, the words of william s burroughs. and then they added the junkiest element of all - themselves. after two critically acclaimed records, the third chapter of the jackpot saga is about to be told. its called greased lightning (also features remix work from such talents as in flagranti and rory phillips). you hear that beat? thats them knocking on your door.

rock it is a full on dance floor assault thats fastly become the peoples anthem of 2009. already and permanent fixture with virtually every djs set within dnb and beyond, including the shows of zane lowe and annie mac. automatically recognisable with its half time intro, vocoder vocal hooks and lead line, you wouldnt be mistaken if you thought this tracks was talking to you. this has organic cross over appeal written all over it and we could definitely see some sort of national play list with this track on it.follow the light, is an awesome piece of musical production in its own right. this has become one of the most anticipated releases for ram records and sub focus since he debuted it nationally during his dj set at glastonbury that was broadcast live on radio 1. as such it soon become zane lowes hottest record in the world and has gained numerous plays radio wise since and has become a permanent fixture in the sets of dance musics a list djs worldwide.

moleculez returns to meta4 ready to clear dancefloors with some of his most destructive material to date. you know you are dealing with some serious dance music when none of the tracks on a release have vocal samples. the opening track, future in progress, is blessed with a wonderfully deep kickdrum that would probably even sound good at plus20, although we havent tried that yet. out of a nowhere the track suddenly seems to have stopped when an eerie melody creeps out of the dark. this sets the tone for the rest of the release: dark, driving and threatening. gargoyle is the most driving. lava bomb the eeriest: and future in progress the most threatening. thats what we think, anyway. you decide. the last two tracks on this release are probotector and the haunted. the first is actual textbook honest to goodness industrial hardcore while the latter isnt really anything we can talk about here. highly recommended because we want to sell records

yep, thats right. synth pop sensations heartbreak remixed by the horrors. tom furse from the horrors has a fearsome collection of analogue synths and used them to rebuild this track from heartbreaks debut album from the ground up, and a killer job hes done too. as ali and sebastian from heartbreak both release on dissident their label lex thought it would be a good idea if dissident did the 12 inch release. obviously due to the nature of this release and the addition of the combined horrors / heartbreak fanbase its pretty much an instant collectors item and will fly out of the door at a fair old rate of knots so please make sure you order enough to keep everyone happy, i doubt well have any of these left by the end of the week. the clip is taken from the second half of the track as it turns into a glorious cosmic synthesizer orgy, theres plenty of arpeggiated trackiness before it gets to this bit

after the smash that was shatnereffekt one, handsette recordings return, bringing a host of diverse and super talented artists from around the world together on one massive ep and another essential array of electronic music.
kicking off the ep is kritical audios >spandex<, a tune that comes slow on the heels of the swedish duos 2006 braindance monster >krupp<. the swedish duo have come with an itchy slice of razor sharp electrofunk with a burbling acid bassline thats currently being caned by surgeon and rob hall (who says, i ve been playing the kritical audio track a lot. good stuff )... this is a big tune!
next up we have miles tilmanns >spirex< which starts with a wonky off beat that gives way to some wacked-out rubbery bassline action and a lead line that could have come from the keyboard hands of harold faltemeyer or parliaments bernie worrell.
following that is c. mantles >that other eden<. fearsome and delicate, morose and savage, >that other eden< is a serious piece of dancefloor heft with reese basslines burbling under a clattering beat before dropping away into a slightly terrifying double-drop breakdown.
unity gain temples >sahmo< rounds out the ep with a glistening, truly beautiful piece of work. the heavy kicks of the intro are met by a rush of lush chords and deft touches of melody, driving the track into a space that is pure audio luxury and reminiscent of brothomstates, arovane and tippers more contemplative moments.

stone cold classic funky disco floor filler thats stood the test of time. first time ever on 12inch!!! taken from the hard to find self titled lp by tommy stewart, bump & hustle music is the definitive disco funk party anthem. it was recorded in 1976 in atlanta, georgia, and since then the lp has found itself in the play boxes of soul, funk and jazz djs alike. however, its not until now that this amazing song has finally made it onto the preferred format of dance djs the world over û the 45rpm 12inch single. in 1976 tommy stewart was a busy man, working as an arranger, producer, performer and writer for a host of soul and rnb artists. the lp made for abraxas records was the first to go directly under his name, and although it failed to take off locally, the lp soon became known by djs across the world primarily for the club smash bump & hustle music. as it happens that song in particular almost didnt exist but for tommy needing to come up with something quick in order to fill in a gap in the album. conceived and recorded on the spur of the moment, and with backing vocals by isaac hayes singers hot buttered soul overdubbed later, its a superb example of rhythmic simplicity blended with soulful, catchy harmonies. its just impossible to listen to bump & hustle music without a broad smile coming to your face, and when played loud in a club, its impossible not to dance!

chris special is destined for big things in 2009.original mix might be the most catchy tune on noir music to date and the whole soundscape of this track oozes summer, ibiza and happy people. we are taking no prisoners on this oneàà the perfect mix between credible tech house and the more commercial and catchy melodies. this tune would work perfectly in every club around the globe and yesàà thats how good it is.

the make up the break up is the first release on bruno pronsatos own thesongsays label. its the longest track in his catalog (38 minutes), and an even deeper excursion into his stylized harmony. this track was originally a track uncompleted while making, æwhy cant we be like us. revisiting it roughly a year ago, bruno began to reword it. what began as simple attempt to create an ep track out of it became a monster. what monster you ask? in a few words, the monster that is brunos love of musicality and sound design. muscially speaking, we are on a ride somewhere between a slithery house track and a drugged out night out in chelsea, new york in the 60s - and thats a good thing because we get the entirety of the ride: the ups, the downs, the clouded mentality, the broken heart and perhaps the mended one. its happy, its sad - its something that you can dance to, but most importantly, its music that we think you can revisit for many years, as it somehow reflects us, our lives. a playful and extended journey through love and disaster, or at least the soundtrack to it.

played by karotte, giles smith (secretsundaze), laurent garnier... already up to its 17th release, yore keeps rolling on, this time with a new release by memory foundation. in 1994 robert hood found his way into a dark basement somewhere in viennas suburbia. mr. hood was impressed by what he had heard, and with him a dat-tape took a long journey back to where techno was invented once. with their first appearance on detroits m-plant label 15 years ago, the memory foundation or one of their many alter egos found its way into the hearts and the record-bags of many serious electronic music lovers. in 1997, after setting up their own record labels central and together with jeremiah grow! and other releases on m-plant, 7th city or usm followed. the memory foundation now returns with their contribution for the yore camp, with their >reptiles in exile ep< they prove that they havent lost their magic touch. the track burns with electro-funk fire, with natural kit and cymbal sounds giving the already-surging cut extra thrust and the staccato burble of metallic chords adding berlin flavour. a lithe eight-note bass motif anchors the warm techno-funk of >bass traveller< as a flaring synth motif squiggles alongside rhodes chords and a boogieing clavinet line, and its easy to become so engrossed by the tunes relaxed swing that the artistry of its arrangement can go underappreciated. textbook body music, >summer visions< is an earthier, mid-tempo funk workout thats sure to get the dance floor crowded, while the light-speed closer >reptiles< blazes a slinky house trail whose fresh swing has got yore written all over it. with any luck, we wont be waiting twelve more years for the next memory foundation release

lisztomania is the first single of the much acclaimed new phoenix album wolfgang amadeus phoenix . kitsune have asked the new electro scene to remix it and this led to this great and exciting ep! new yorkers holy ghost! (dfa), with this great version of crystal fighters xtatic truth, put everyone in agreement - on their knees. la based classixx deliver a production thats evocative of a corvette in the sun, carefree, before it all gets dangerously heated up. quite convenient too when youre fifteen (at least spiritually) to french kiss for a whole five minutes. finally half of digitalism, der die das, brings the track to the dancefloor with an uplifted and breathtaking version.

on the flip you have marcus visionarys remix, this canadian producer has made his mark on the international dnb scene by consistently producing fantastic jungle infused tracks on labels like digital sound boy and play:music. in their version of my address, old skool loops are recreated and remastered to create a spine shaking and driving riddim thats underpinned with a whirring bassline.

a killer clubby groove from steve marshall û the kind that reminds us of the best indie singles from the late 70s disco years! steve plays alto sax here over a strutting, high stepping rhythm thats got plenty of warm touches û really glowing with a sense of soul thats great, and touched by some female chorus vocals that are very much in a philly mode! the disco mix is great û even more upbeat and extended than the 45 groove. in the country is a great bit of club jazz û smooth and sweet, but still with a snakey flute line in the middle û almost like some lost bobbi humphrey track from her epic years. do what you will is another chorus vocal number û and you are the world features some laidback mellow flute.

for the joy of those who know (and even more so for those who dont...), here come some classics with the capital c. treated, reworked and re edited by the unusual suspects, these gems shine for quality originality, and most of all, variety. from the late 60s (b2) to the 21st century (b3 came out only a few years ago), this 12inch encompasses some immortal tracks that bring joy to whomever the listener. different folks, different strokes, yet a1 had to be one of the most air played tune of the 80s, given the popularity it still enjoys. a2 is one of the finest moments in a legendary funkateers career: top class arrangements and groove. b1 sounds like the perfect summer outdoor party tune...boogie oogie oogie! no... not that one thats been rinsed for decades, this ones less predictable. b2 shows theres room for bop modal deepness in this killer 12inch, going back as far as the late 60s... on blue note of course. closing the series b3, a real surprise duet of the new millennium from an album that even topped the charts in 2004... smashing! dj or not, this 12inch is real hot! bring out those summer bbq grills, for we got the soundtrack.

third release for the third eye project of masomenos, with 3 tracks by themselves, including a great featuring by curro savoy on ningessera, a vocal pumping & deep house track. you ve probably heard curro savoy before, as he is the amous whistler from all ennio morricone soundtracks for sergio leone movies! he brings here an amazing melancholic vibes with his whistle & guitar… percute his a funkier track, but still quite trippy. as for sambatic, we get more into percussive groove with some great vocals too, thats sound like in ningessera to be some unknown universal language

he is italian and he is disco, whether this makes it italo-disco is up to you. the balihu act created melodic fresh music between eskimo, clone and permanent vacation. recommended

maaco is back with a new 12 inch thats for sure to bang your floor! after several releases on clone, dbass and his own map recordings as cybonix and d.i.e. for more than a decade, dj maaco is putting detroit in effect back on the map. pure detroit electro tracks in the tradition of juan atkins model 500 project and aux88 and the likes. detroit in effect are the knights of pure detroit electro techno and they are back to rock your party! warning... you probably know the game with these detroit labels, these will be gone as quick as butter melts in the hot sun!

john talabot is a youngster from barcelona with a rather special way of approaching music. borrowing his schools name for his alias and the most diverse samples for his music, he produces expansive and iconoclastic housey tracks. his influences range from flamenco to northern soul, from african music to traditional asian songs and he s inspiration sources go from the profound and sensual house of moodyman and labels such as sound signature or kdj to disco music, chicago house, pop or techno, whatever he likes. sounds like a bass kick and a sampler, he says us in his myspace, no less. this young producer and tireless musical tracker has the ability not just to find the appropriate samples but also to conjugate them wisely. in a great exercise of sonic inventiveness, guitars, strings and keyboards are combined in his tracks with rhythms and vocals with african reminiscences, to give us his own vision of house music, original and personal, but yet very effective. cliche allergic, songs like naomi, korlee or afrika sound cosmic and tremendously emotional without losing sight of the dance floor (thats what we call fat beats). his tracks are organic, human, full of life, the kind of music that keeps not only your foot moving but also your heart tingling.

wonky, funky, freaky, thats the squire of gothos

the second instalment of the aprÚs vinyl series sees australian producer touch sensitive (also a member of van she) kicking things off with >body stop<, an italo disco stomper thats been at home in the fc catalogue for quite some time. recently unearthed by london based producer toby tobias in a chart of >hidden gems< it seemed only natural to ask toby to remix body stop and the result sees toby putting more space in the track, pushing it further onto the dancefloor and keeping it playful all at once. on the flip we take the uk connection a little further with leeds based producer bonar bradberry floating into cosmic territory with >fought & won< whilst toby tobias turns in some glorious tour-bus-disco on >azul blue<, guitars and acid lines sitting comfortably side by side for the ride.
