following up the scorching debut release another night, deep&disco recordings sidesteps the sophomore slump with elisco, an infectious electro-funk groover that both cements the labels commitment to quality and expands their musical range.
a chunky nu-disco track with hints of metro area and a catchy vocal hook, the seeds of elisco were planted in the early 2000s when label founder jkriv and lou teti were sharing a loft space in williamsburg, brooklyn. after an afternoon of cowbells and synths, the skeleton of the track had its shape, and their other roomates girlfriend was enlisted to sing the hook. she had no singing experience (or rhythmic sense) to speak of, but somehow it all worked and elisco was born! although its always been a personal favorite of the producer duo, the song remained shelved for almost 7 years until they dusted it off in early 2011 and readied it for release on the newly minted deep&disco recordings.
providing remixes for the vinyl release are the legendary leftside wobble, who turns in an extended and bpm-d-up version quite true to the original, taking the machine vibes to the next level with added loops and fx. brightons alphabet city brings the disco-boogie sensibility to the package with a deep mix that features jkriv on live bass, and whiskey disco regular sleazy mcqueen rounds it out with an indie dance stomper.

jax is a collective of like-minded artists, musicians, thinkers movers and booty-shakers, who believe there is more to records than just some grooves engraved into black plastic. their vision is to treat each release as a presentation in itself, complete with original and individual artwork, features and an exhibition. each production will feature artwork shown in a cube of about 8 cubic meters. every record-released will be strictly-limited to 500 copies, which includes a poster referencing the piece made by the artist! daniel roth was born in seeheim near frankfurt. he started to experiment with different styles of electronical music using an akai mpc and a juno 106 in 1997. by this time he wasnt thinking of making music his profession. he then started his studies in skulpturing at the städel in frankfurt. after having finished art school he took up producing music again, influenced by his art and contemporary dance music styles. with his jax release he showcases his ability to combine different elements with his unique touch.

white rabbits giovanni damico is a house producer from italy. his style is hard to define as all tracks have their own original concept. it is the love for music that you can instantly hear in giovannis perception of house music. house music is dancemusic and the feel in the drums and use of samples make sure of that. this is house music at his best when listened to this 3 track vinyl. be amazed at the subtle crossover between blues and house on the b2 track.

following on from last years dachshund skank ep by klic & article.01, we have asked some of our favourite producers of the moment to add their own slant to the originals which previously found their way into the dj sets of martyn and addison groove and gained support from bbc6 music. greymatter continues with his new love for chicago-styled synth and drum machine work-outs with his jacking take on forwards, while pixelord and the hotly tipped gerry read take the track mustard tiger in two very different directions on the flip. the digital release sees the talented new boy blacksmif and hit and hope regular naive machine add their respective twists to round off the release.

this time its a full ep from chocky, which features a remix from brooklyns krts. the dscntd releases resist the modern addiction to genre pigeon-holing, instead they focus on pushing a variety of interesting and emotive sounds. this five track ep captures the rich and varied musical inspirations of the mysterious man simply know as chocky. first up is >down with idris<, a beautifully, blissed-out slice of electronica. krts supplies a dusty, broken remix with a deep, creeping progression, these two versions really compliment each other. on the flip you will find the jazzy >can i mither you<, suspenseful but really groovy house music. finishing the whole thing off is the deep as you like >frizzy fuzz<, lovely drums and synths, pure atmosphere. and keep an ear out for chockys interlude/dj tool >ripp off<, it pays homage to his love of sampling...

for their sophomore release catapult records presents the debut solo release from the organ grinder aka chico from didz and chico fame, one half of the duo that brought us the outstanding >something new< on doc daneekas ten thousand yen label. >obsession< and >new age people< are back on the old school renaissance tip sharing the same soulful classic tones that underpinned >something new< which got plays from the likes of larent garnier and sinden.
these are two classy modern garage hits that have a back in the day vintage feel, think tuff jams garage classic >experience<, think us garage at its peak, think iceberg chinos and mochino shirts, think everyone having a good time in clubs. both tracks are swingers aimed directly at the dance floor full of soulful vocal snippets, catchy melodies, shuffling rhythm patterns, warm vintage keys and plenty of deep bass.

borrowed language returns with their third installment of genre agnostic electronics. following the explosive release of unltd & israel vines >distance no object< ep (featured in millie & andreas superb lwe podcast, and charted by the likes of dj pete & grovskopa) was no easy feat, but jeff pietro proves to be more than up to the task with this brilliant 2-track 10 inch. as with earlier releases on borrowed language, this effort exemplifies the continuing refinement of the labels aesthetic. while some influences are clearly detectable, this is not just cannon fodder, there is enough attention to detail and panache on display here to distinguish pietros take on techno/bass music from his peers. the results are polished, but not without sharp edges, brutal, but elegant, functional, but not faceless.
