new dolly sublabel! as dolly is mainly focussed on classic detroit/ chicago inspired house and techno, dolly dubs will widen the spectrum. first up is staffan lindberg from sweden (known for his remix of steffis yours) who delivers four excellent modern and sharply produced house/club tracks that will work on any floor.
definition of d is a little tribute to detroit, the city that influenced and later embraced my music in the mid/late 90s. this ep is an attemt to make music that is closer to the sound that i started out making but still different from the old detroit releases. high tech soul and is hopefully the key here. available on vinyl
the first 12 inch off of the forgotten art album from this chicago house artist. on the a-side is an exclusive remix of the track strumming & thinking with added vocals and a smooth soulful vibe. the flip holds the albums banging title track with amazing keyboard work.
the next musical offering from no.19 comes in the form of robot heart. a record almost destined to be a classic before its creation. this is the same robot heart that burners chase through the desert on bikes deep into the playa to partake in one of the worlds most enigmatic events. it s been praised by the likes of rolling stone magazine as one of the best parties on earth and continues to top the lists of dj s lucky enough to play atop the legendary mobile soundsystem..
after 2 years of squabbling over who does the washing up and various teabag shortages in the kitchen, luke and milla decided to take their arguments into the studio. milla comes from an indie and scando-pop listening background with luke being a full on house and techno chin stroker. they love to experiment and record lots of different sounds for their compositions, be it 5 guys in the garden shed bashing bin lids together, screwing up plastic bags or sweeping the floor, if it makes a sound, it makes music. together they have created a spacey and melancholic two tracker abundant with love and emotion. >disappearing stars< comes with a matthew burton and kate rathod remix and the >its just us< remix has luke and matthew behind the wheel taking it down to china town.
true school house and techno joints for the dj who wants to rock the dancefloor. ricardo jefferson has appeared on labels such as third ear recordings, nang records, 22 digit records and many more. he has also had his music championed by the likes of ricardo villalobos, laurent garnier, ben watt and graeme park. ricardo has set up art-star recordings to release more of his own material and as a platform for new artists wishing to get their productions heard.
the ltd 1-sided vinly single contains 2 uncompromising tracks. the record get some massive remix treatments by mr. andreas krämer, the cr labelowner himself. andreas krämers s bitchslap mix contains deep rhythm loops, compound with the evil like speech of darkness, a great mix for the primetime !
esperanzas 25th release comes from labels boss kasper. been this his third solo release on the label and the second of his dope beats series, on the a side we have the art of rebellion, a deep burner with some disco infused sounds all over the place. the track builds up around a heavy bass sample filtered in and out from start to beginning. b side, the dreamer, is just yet another example of kaspers love for the classic sounds. this time teaming up with vitorias best kept secrets, mario castillo, also known as kastil for his releases on soul notes, outernational and seven music, they deliver a true tribute to chicagos house sound from the 80s. 707, juno and what more!
canadian musical heavyweights konrad black & art department join forces for a single that is set to be one of the big underground records of the summer
in the beginning god created the bass drum. he made it beat 8.601 days. then he left it away. god said: death is the greatest work of art. and its expensive. finally infinite. thats politics and science and art. the art of omission. the art of refusal. death is absolute. the bass drum is absolute. do you want the absolute bass drum? if you manage to convince him, god will be happy to lend you his axe, because what happens is what he wants. just like the people. they want it to happen, too. the most expensive work of art in the world is a skull encrusted with 8.601 diamonds.
with the wait almost over for jamie jones second artist album >tracks from the crypt< crosstown rebels get set to drop the absolutely massive single >our time in liberty< featuring cult dance outfit art department. a bassline symphony for the senses, this elusive slayer of dancefloors, is finally getting a release alongside a heavy-duty remix from comrade russ yallop.

toby leeming aka the third man returns with his 3rd ep for art - and what a belter it is. maintaining the high quality of previous releases >future tense< and >more than one< both aim for the dancefloor whilst retaining the melodic and harmonic sophistication that made tangier (art-dds4) and messier 66 (art-dds2) such sought-after tracks. another buy-on-sight release from art
justin berkovi delivers 2 heads down mid-tempo techno dance tracks for his art debut. clean, crisp production with thunderous low end characterise both tracks. the title track drive delivers its power via modulating synth stabs, whilst when i throw down commands the dancefloor with its demonic vocal. a classic label debut from one of technos most loved producers.
its not often you hear a track that instantly transports you to the sun-washed climbs of miami and rapturous dancefloors of ibiza - but from the moment this tune kicks in – bang, you are there!
art department are back on the mothership crosstown to kick off 2012 in lurid style with a slice of slow burning, chugging disco-tech and pendulum beats in new single >touch you gently<. the b-side is taken care of with a powerful brenann green rework of >tell me why<, from the much lauded album >the drawing board<.
very strong release with the boogie / slomo-house groover >hope< and the irresistable hook and dub/disco feel of the more uptempo >no delay<. excellent production, this will stir up things for sure. winner!
the debut that started it all! ugly but honest is a collection of songs (some four-tracked, some demos) from 1996-1999. this was the first release from carissas wierd, originally put out by brown records in 2000. this limited vinyl version is a double lp on opaque baby blue marbled vinyl, housed in a gatefold sleeve. all lps include a download code.
saobi records is back with a new ep, containing three excellent tracks on another classic deep house release, mixing together different forms and styles of music, trying to not have a precise musical genre but experimenting always new sounds!
NEW YORK NOISE - ART AND MUSIC FROM THE NY UNDERGROUND 1978 - 1988
Mag 18.08.11
new york noise describes the period in history (1978-88) where new york art and music collided. beginning in the mid-1970s, new york city s soho and east village became a hot-bed of musical and artistic ideas. owing to new property laws, downtown new york and its many warehoure and loft spaces became the home of artists, bands, filmmakers, studios, art galleries and more. in this small area partically every musican was also an artist, every artist a filmmaker and every filmmaker was in a band. this scene is documented over a vibrant ten year period and the book includes pictures of jean-michel basquiat, david byrne, suicide, keith haring, glenn branca, esg, madonna, laurie anderson, philip glass, afrika bambaataa and hundereds more previously unseen photographs. with accomanying text from david byrne, laurie anderson, cindy sherman and more, this is an essential record of a fascinating era in new york s cultural history.
achim maerz makes his debut on fine art with a 5 track ep release. tracks that are upbeat & summerish with a classic groove! early chicago influences are obvious, but achim added a nice contemporary touch. kind of larry heard meets basic channel meets second wave detroit techno. comes with beautiful artwork!
somewhere between center parcs in nottingham and the white sandy perfection of formentera reside two men dedicated to the art of horizontal dancing. their mums call them ampo and timm (funny names, those notts lads), though we know them by their collective name of coyote. in their minds eye, it is still 1986 and there are leathery looking germans with alarming posing pouches dancing to simply red records on the shimmering terrace at ku club while down the road alfredo is building his legendary reputation at amnesia. apart from the clued-up few, most of the brits are billeted in san antonio where the beers are cheap and the sunburn is plentiful. coyotes music, despite being produced in the east midlands conjures up a world of sun, sea and 80s glamour, while still sounding very much like today.
ever since the visionary 2010 debut >without you<, art department have been shaking the music community to the molten core with their psychedelic, bass driven unique take on electronic music. crosstown rebels now presents one of the most lauded tracks from their recent opus >the drawing board<, heralded by many as album of the year, with exemplary remixes from caribous daphni and the legendary dj harvey. >we call love< feat. soul clap & osunlade is a deviant classic for the futuristic age.
savor musics second 12 inch release follows a rockin record by papol and ekkohaus. we are proud to present today some raw future classics that will quite simply tear the floor into pieces. lucas mari is a hard to catch butterfly that spreads his subtle wings on few carefully selected projects. a resident of the city of rosario in argentina, lucas mari appeared occasionally on the very fine argentine label greener, german imprint stock 5 and on us labels adjunct and airdrop. in true early 90s chicago fashion, the two original cuts feature some serious drum machine action, building a sturdy way to allow for some exquisite chord relief to flourish. gez varley, absolutely stunned by listening to the originals, decided to contribute to the release with a simple and hypnotic remix that only he, the one and only g-man has the recipe for.
the opening track from the debut simon baker album was always going to be a strong choice to be the first single. no pressure has received unanimous praise since the albums release and is back with new remixes by art department and simon himself. its rare to get great stand out vocal tracks that dont split opinion, but this seems to be one of them. its slick, deep house of the highest calibre with a stand out hooky vocal from debukas. art department, owners of ras number one track of 2010 drop a superb remix, adding new vocals and teasing debukas back into the mix for a pretty special, hypnotic workout. simons >upstate dub< mix finishes things off. it aims things directly at the dancefloor in his signature, deep and twisting style.
kicking off 2011 with a killer e.p. is our favourite artist art bleek featuring a number of remixes from the new art supplies album released on loungin this month plus some fresh cuts exclusive to this release. starting the e.p. is a floor filling remix of clap your hands by our own trevor loveys. the original has been out for a few months in the blogosphere and has been picking up some heavy props. next up is hold it (a little longer) where art shows off his true talent of the master of the musical groove with a rolling bass and a choppup vocal lick to keep the party rocking. flip over to side b and you would be excused if you thought someone had swapped the record out for a disco classic. with vox by noelle scaggs and a harmony that nile rodgers would be proud of arthur creates a boogie classic that is very much flavour of the moment. following on is an exclusive remix of the hunt dance featuring the unmistakable voice of ursula rucker. the original on art supplies has had such amazing reactions that we all thought it would be hard to better it, but again arthur has done it delivering a groover for the heads. finally is right on featuring l.as finest charlie sputnik. art delivers a more techy grove to this classic which is a sound he is becoming more recognised for which contrasts so will with charlies trademark smooth vocals.
the winter saga continues… this being the second release on art of vengeance, aril takes yet another turn in style, or rather back to the sound of the winter ep that was released on kompakt in 2007. the title track is is a journy in melodies built in layers, trying to fit as much melodies in one track without going over the line. maybe it is over the line? tundra is a bit more on the rough side but with arps and chords coming in and out while glacär/for minou strips things down a bit to a more bassier and warmer sound with string/chords, less melodies and more groove
