the very first release of 2018 from eureka!, is the well known parisian sampling master s3a (sampling as an art) with his perfect definition between underground quality emotional house music and dancefloor efficiency. he released from lazare house records, hold youth, concrete music, local talk, phonogramme and faces and with his background culture based on a solid knowledge of house music, soul, funk made him one of the most promising house artist of the french scene. mountain charr contains 3 tracks in completely different styles. doop doop is definitely a sound of s3a, with characteristic vocal cut up by adding powerful horn section and melodic piano loop. emotional m1 is classic yet warm and cosy low deep groove track that is playable regardless of a time or place, from lounge to dancefloor. to complete the package we have denials , a more down tempo offering, but its melody is fascinating and yes, sexy. this ep definitely brings you his predominant sense of sampling.

great return of the classic and pioneer band of the french funk scene! after a long absence, malka family reformed, burned some scenes and composed a new album without changing anything to its magic formula. recomposed with almost all original musicians, they come back today with a new album, le retour du kif. at the heart of a still popular and multicultural marais area in paris, young musicians gather to jam. this is where malka family is formed. their first self-produced album, malka on the beach, was released in 1991, and gigs were immediately chaining up all over france and europe, famous for their eccentric costumed performance and after-parties. in 1992, warner france signs them for a second album tous des oufs, a real p-funk space opera with guests such as sidney, dee nasty, marco prince (fff), or juan rozoff. they will then traveled france, switzerland, italy, holland, denmark, namibia, japan ... and in 1994, the band becomes independent again and records an ep for big cheese records, titled fricassee de funk. after a final tour for the third album, fotoukonkass (bmg) recorded with renaud létang the band finally broke up. at a time when daft punk is using funk artists to support their performance, when bruno mars & mark ronsons uptown funk continues to make the crowds dance, it s time for the original funkateers families to come back and teach a lesson to new generations. after the band reformed and started touring again since 2015, they quickly decided to record a new album and to leave on the roads again

this house music lover - real name adrien o�hana - hails from lausanne in switzerland and is a well-established dj in his home country playing regularly at clubs like folklor next to djs such as san proper. he�s also released on grand cru paris and has an accessible, heartfelt house sound perfectly exemplified here.
he opens his account here with the lovely �i tried�, a tieless bit of classically informed house music. it has rolling kicks and choppy percussion all run through with warm, streaming chords and a joyful feeling. �just 4 her (vox)� is another lovely jam, with boom bap kick clap combos, dusty hi hats and feel good pianos fleshing out the beats with real soul.
on the flip, �dream on� is another mid-tempo gem with roughhewn drums laying down a heavy groove as soulful male vocal samples and big strings burst through and bring the whole thing to life. it�s house music for cosy, happy dance floors and the final track is a dub version of �just 4 her� with no vocals and more emphasis on the breezy grooves and summery flutes. this is authentic house music that brims with charm.

after a successful first collaboration for a 12inch in 2016, zimbabwean mbira maestro jacob mafuleni and his wife percussionist / singer martha thom have teamed up once again with french electro-funk producer gary gritness, this time for an album recorded in paris during the last red bull music academy festival.

fouk are finally back on heist after their great �kill frenzy� ep in 2014 and have taken mount liberation unlimited along for a remix. we�ve been waiting patiently for new material, challenging the guys to take the signature �fouk� sound to the next level. fouk�s brilliance has been obvious on recent work for their own label outplay and razor �n tape, as well as their respective solo projects. we�ve kept a close connection, teaming up whenever possible for heist showcases, with highlights in amsterdam�s �claire� and paris� �concrete-. seeing their work and enthusiasm made it abundantly clear that it would only be a matter of time before they�d show us what the next step would look -or better yet- sound like. anticipation ran high but boy, do fouk deliver. the excellent �with lasers� ep still very much portrays their own style of loose, live percussion and many layers of funk, but they�ve expanded their vision and even toughened up a bit. their new taste for grit and an interest in the heavier side of funk is probably most evident on the opener �f3000&#8242,,,,,, where a thunderous arpeggio is supported by distorted drums and lush cosmic synth stabs. title track �with lasers� is more of a classic fouk track, combining a lovely walking disco bassline and their signature drum programming with� erm� lasers. lots of them. the b side �see you on the other side� sets a different pace, carefully blending guitar licks, rhodesy chords and vocal chops into a lovely groove that feels just as carefree and improvised as it feels exciting. swedish synth nerds �mount liberation unlimited� ran with it and transformed it into a dreamy -pepe bradock goes balearic- track where airy echoed guitars take turns with some equally dreamy and evocative pads.

it really feels like we (aka mad mats & tooli) have been around way longer than 5 1/2 years with local talk, but it s really true what they say, time flies when you re having fun! from what started as a somewhat simple and almost primitive urge to create a small house imprint has now grown into a much bigger affair. we really tried hard to keep the label from getting stuck in any genre (remember 90s house?) and to always keep the local talk relevant, curious, diverse and with a healthy dose of underground mentality. from our very first release with bassfort s excellent moon shadow in the summer of 2011, we had a crystal clear vision of what local talk should represent...house music in any way, shape or form! over the years we released soulful, disco, jack, afro, vocal, deep, jazz, tech, latin, old school, acid, uk, berlin, new jersey, detroit and of course chicago inspired house music. if it made us bump...we put it out! this brings us up to today and about +80 releases later. we thought about how we best could sum up these first 5 1/2 years and immediately the image of blaze s classic album 25 years later popped up. besides the fact that it s an amazing album cover it also a good representation when different musical genres fuse together. it s not strictly a house album but just as well a r&b, reggae and soul album. this fusion and variation of house sounds is something that we ve tried to capture on our 5 1/2 years later compilation, split into two parts. on part 2 you ll find a high energy disco rub from parisian s3a, a truly deep and soulful vocal jam from boddhi satva & sly johnson, a deep uk garage production from smbd (aka simbad), a dark and electronic affair from toto chiavetta (yoruba) and finally a musical acid number with that magical bristol touch from newcomer marcel lune. all in all we think we got most angles covered and hopefully this album will make you spread that chalk on the dance floor and get down...local talk style

last year saw casablanca-based cosmo records launch its most ambitious project todate, celebrating five years of cross-cultural collaboration. the three vinyl releasesfeatured producers such as san proper, radiq, pier bucci and dandy jack working with moroccan musicians to create a true fusion between modern electronics and ancient traditions. the purpose of cosmo has always been to find a natural meeting place between thesedistinct musical forms, bringing out the best strengths of each practice through real time spent together in the studio, where each artist can truly understand the other in a shared quest for sonic harmony. as such, this latest release marks a step forward in exploring this idea through a new series entitled cosmo jam. as the title suggests, the focus here is on live improvisation. in late 2014 parisian producers masomenos and vadim svoboda travelled to morocco and set up their equipment at the coda casablanca music center. they were joined by m�hamed el menjra playing bass, abdessamad boussahfa on violin and sanhaji on darbuka, and the ensuing jam sessions between these musicians now make their way on to vinyl. no editing or post-production took place � the music you hear on the record was created entirely in the moment. each track highlights the magic of a different instrument � on �be� menjra�s double bass comes twisting through effects processing and subtle distortion, meeting with a low-slung broken beat groove from the visiting french producers. sanhaji�s thrilling percussive flair on the darbuka flirts perfectly with the crisp programming of drums and bass on the uptempo �kaled� and the more laid-back �petit�. boussahfa�s violin makes for some of the most arresting moments on the release, meeting with intricate minimalist rhythms on �mon� and shining in the heart-rending ambience of �frere�. presented across two 12�s, this collection of six tracks tells a most honest account of how gifted artists from entirely different disciplines can find a common ground and create something truly unique. without any studio trickery to hide behind, this is the concept of cosmo records laid bare, and the results prove it is a concept worth exploring further.

from hudd trax and dessous through to one and karat, parisian producer andrade has graced many a fine label in his time. he lands on politics of dancing in fine fettle, jumping to the task with a-side cut -the bridge- like he s got something to prove. the beat is irrefutable, while the soulful chords and samples rubbed into the joints make it all the sweeter. -control- on the b-side is an airy affair that floats on plush layers of melody without losing its low-end impact. by way of variation, the remixes from dan ghenacia and art alfie simmer andrade s originals down into measured, tool-like constructions.

the paris soulful disco scene is pretty hype right now and young pulse is definitely one of the key players. after three highly successful eps on gamm, young pulse is now set for his fourth release in the celebrated paris edits series. as always with young pulse we re served the blacker and more soulful side of disco and this time we get a proper prime time philly stomper on the a side and a uplifting feel-good boogie tune on the b. together with the new (and very beautiful) design we got another gamm winner folks!
