superb, expert neo-minimalism from the retiring berliner — veteran of collaborations like vilod (with ricardo villalobos), the moritz von oswald trio, nsi and sun electric — making a rare, treasurable solo foray. six tracks ranging from oscillatory steppers to eerie hauntings. beautifully sleeved, too.

reginald omas mamode iv has a terrific track record thus far. since delivering his debut 12inch back in 2013, hes barely put a foot wrong, with last years intimate friends released mini-album, all together, being a particular highlight. this debut full-length is every bit as impressive as youd expect, with the peckham producer relying a little less on dusty samples, and rather more on loose, live drums, rubbery bass guitar, dreamy rhodes keys, and other luscious instrumentation. as usual, the assembled tracks effortlessly join the dots between jazzy instrumental hip-hop, neo-soul, mauritian drum workouts, broken beat and humid, tropical-tinged grooves.

after the world applauded sascha funke for his latest album lotos land, he gave away some tunes to friends for remix duties. düsseldorf based tolouse low trax formed twirl into a foggy dark mpc-seducer for romantic nighthawks that love dancing. also australian boy dreems prepared a remix that grooves odd and uncommon. his percussive version of im feiern und feuer is a slow whirlwind, perfect to start and end a great dj night. with tuff city kids a duo formed a remix that is good for big room love affairs. their version of purple hill is a heartfelt melange between trance and house deepness that works on any dance floor. the final edit comes from glasgows junto club, who transformed comola, a tune that they already produced originally with sascha funke, into a longing dark melodic synth stepper. four versions, four hits, four atmospheric dimensions beyond words. tune it loud!

in 2012 bottin presented a mysterious neo-italo-wave band: cristalli liquidi. this album, finally, unveils the mystery: cristalli liquidi is not a band, not in the conventional sense of the word. it s entirely bottin s music, lyrics and vocals, with a little help from his friends. this long overdue lp not only introduces original works, but also breathes new life into remakes of obscure italian pop songs. sun-blushed synthwork is embraced by vocals steeped in romance, vocals en italiano no less. the many guises of the glitterball are unveiled, from the deep bass and smooth funk of 70s disco into the catchy hooks of the 80s and beyond to darker tones and lovelorn laments. across nine tracks the venetian takes you on a journey, as his homeland of italy is musically explored through past and present. cristalli liquidi is an album some five years in the making, five years at first glance. in reality, this lp is a narrative that spans almost thirty-five years. from the poets and songwriters who inspired bottin to the friendships and collaborations that made this project possible, this is an album forged through memories old and new, a heartfelt account of relationships between people (and synthesizers too!)
