this release was born of a cross country trip with an 808 drum machine by thomas ragsdale aka winter son, alongside jozef k, resident of famed manchester and ibiza clubnight sankey, as they join perseus traxx to hammer electricity out of machines. with it&#700,,,s rim shots and claps and other transistor rhythms reverberating across vast distances of space, side a is stripped back and deep from the outset, pushing forward as scattered tones, arpeggiations and disjointed voices leave their trails vanishing from perception. side b tightens up from the previous reverbs and throws acid into the mix, as the two join perseus traxx and the sound becomes more raw and urgent as the three of them jam on their chosen machines.

two of paris� most respected artists get together for their second collaborative extended player this year. dan ghenacia and chris carrier have been entrenched in the electronic scene in their hometown for a long while now, both men building a strong rep through consistently great music and dj performances. earlier this year they joined forces on �just a sin�, released via carrier�s adult only label, now they�re back with the follow-up on apollonia. across three deadly tracks, the duo explore their love of music making machines to the fullest � each track taking its name from �sweet heart�, translated into different languages. �schatzi� works off a modular synth, bursting out of the blocks with a wobbly bassline which supports a range of subtle effects together with infrequent vocal clips. as the track progresses warm rising pads and female vocal snippets create an entrancing atmosphere. next up we get an arabian twist with �habibi�. a pervading air of mystery presents itself right from the off, with warped voices lurking in the background as the rhythm lures you into its murky groove. as the track progresses more eerie pads and effects are layered over the stepping bassline giving it a very creepy feel. finally, french vibes comes through with �cherie� on side b. the track draws its energy from the busy, though crisp, percussive elements and a b-line that groans in unison with the beats. a simple chime remains present throughout, keeping it minimal yet interesting.

cristi cons and vlad caia are household names that really need no further introduction. their dj sets are techno stories well told and their live act is already making waves worldwide. amphia is first and foremost the platform they use to broadcast their finest works. such is the case of sideways, their latest lp, containing more than a dozen tracks coming your way trilogy style.
the first part reveals six tracks on two heavyweight discs. although most of the tracks fit the usual sit musical approach, the listener is greeted with a wide pallete of rhythms. assemble is an atmospheric dub infused with violins and orchestral echoes. permissive starts things up with a playful bass progression and continues with lush pads and cryptic voices. brooklyn�s deep moody synths and monster groove render it broken poetry at it�s best. for sure it will resemble those early danceable mornings. on a more joyful manner we are presented next with bootcamp s sturdy baseline and playful modulated vocals.
mandatory claims a whole side of the second disc and so does come around. while the first is almost experimental but danceable and warm due to the occasional driving percussions and 303 sounds the latter is the star of the show. come around is 15 minutes long and comes with a story too. a great collection of tracks, a great story that backs each one of them makes the first part of the sideways lp trilogy a treat to listen and dance to.

rising label 04 is coming with a very complete ness ep which includes a ben gibson remix. >chronoscope< is the intro track that opens the release, a beautiful landscapes piece where ness shows his love and dexterity for the ambient music. following, >pantropy< is already starting with a heavy kick, far voices layered between the percussions and a sweet melody developing and coming up with that >trancey< touch that ness is able to do. on the b side comes >uchronia<, the track from where the release take the name, a strong broken track with shaped and dynamic percussions where some >chronoscope< landscapes are used flowing as the track goes on. to close the ep ben gibson delivers a classy >uchronia< remix going simple but effective, a perfect balance between gibson style and ness track that totally works out on the floor and makes the prefect closing track for that release.

san francisco/paris-based label spring theory is back with its fourth release. called sweet bitter love, it s a four track ep of manic sample-driven house from keita sano, a japanese producer who s been on a roll lately with releases for like-minded imprints discos capablanca, mister saturday night, and strictly groove recordings. sweet bitter love kicks off with the tripped-out flair of -once i found a diamond.- it s an uplifiting bongo-led cut with dubby melodics that sound like the kind of thing sleeping bag records would have put out in the early 80s. jacques renault provides a leaner peak-time version � complete with hard-hitting snares and growling bass � via his -once i found a diamond (jacques renault trouble funk remix).- things take a turn for the delightfully weird on the ep s namesake -sweet bitter love.- starting like a straightforward house cut, it explodes into a psychedelic collage of spaghetti western guitars, tribal calls, displaced jazz fills, and other forms of cleverly sampled soundtrack exotica. the release wraps up with yet another curveball on -bouzouk.- here sano lays out a subwoofer-knocking ny garage house rhythm that takes a left turn with frenzied bouzouki playing charting arpeggios through a haze of echoing foreign voices. taken as a whole, sweet bitter love is that rare idiosyncratic bomb of an ep that will keep your dancers moving and your trainspotters guessing � in other words, it s spring theory through and through.

the title track is a monstrous cut designed to get floors sweaty. with its futuristic synth smears, blasts of white noise and slick rubbery beats it is impossible to ignore. full of atmosphere and some ghoulish voices, it s a fine affair from this italian master. the malandra jr remix is even more tense, with industrial machine sounds zipping and fizzing about in a progressive groove, whilst martin patino deconstructs the whole thing and re-builds it as a jazzy minimal affair with sick chords, smears of colourful light and plenty of charisma. lastly, eddy romero & frink go for a dark, dubby, stripped back number that will please the real heads out there.

starting in 1990 recording for sheffield label ozone records under the name of panic with a release called voices of energy, which was then licensed to buzz in belgium, buzz 001, buzz then went on to release classics by carl craig and derrick may. he set up his own label in the same year solid groove records. the label had 30 vinyl releases over thirteen years and tracks were licensed by derrick may, terry francis, pete tong, adam x, and carl cox.as well as this he ran another four other label s, textures, dark, dot, and cheap knob gags.

first up here is kenloto, a chunky bit of bass driven house with crisp perc. it builds to a nice tense peak with lots of loose, jumbled textures and will make for a fine bit of peak time listening. the other original is whack, which is another tough house cut with firm bass, old school new jersey snare patterns and rolling drums that are rich, warm and rubbery. miguel lobo s remix is a more spritely thing with lithe chords, colourful synths and and a pent up energy that just never stops giving. closing out the fantastic package is paul c & paulo martini who remix kenloto into a trippy affair with ghoulish voices, hard hitting drums and lots of dark wave energy that will carry you late into the night.

though his solo work, and in his collaboration with giuseppe tilleci as voices from the lake, dozzy has achieved some of the most remarkable vistas contemporary electronic music has seen in the last decade. by removing himself from his areas of mastery to shift his focus on the voice, he has achieved a new peak. *sintetizzatrice* is the first work on spectrum spools featuring anna caragnano, a vocalist based in rome.

midgar is proud to introduce a newcomer for the third release. a great debut for the maltese cloned, delivering not less than 4 cuts with sapphire 1990 e.p. the record, way more straightforward and groove centered than the previous midgar outputs, opens with sapphire 1990, track that sounds like very nostalgic memories from a timeless rave. thanks to a genuine simplicity and the great arrangement of its elements, this first cut has the perfect characteristics to become a dancefloor anthem. on the same side, a live out-take from cloned�s repertory, the pendulum swinging synth-lines which dominate pretty direct rhythmics filled with hi-hats and claps over a costant background noise. belgassem as the first cut on the b side, is an absolutely heavy one for the label�s standards, made of deep kickin� drums and haunting voices empowered by a really strong and obsessive acid-line. closing the vinyl, the slow (and again really acidic) submerging is like a lysergic vessel headed to more comfortable dimensions, where groovy drums are embraced by very bright heavenly pads. sudden death is instead a chilled-out broken beat interrupted by confused speeches and detroitish pads, resulting as a modern ritual of ascension towards higher spheres. corel drives the release to the end, recalling most of its main features: a restless run through misty soundscapes along a path studded of bells and overwhelming, sharp hi-hats.
