played by karotte, giles smith (secretsundaze), laurent garnier... already up to its 17th release, yore keeps rolling on, this time with a new release by memory foundation. in 1994 robert hood found his way into a dark basement somewhere in viennas suburbia. mr. hood was impressed by what he had heard, and with him a dat-tape took a long journey back to where techno was invented once. with their first appearance on detroits m-plant label 15 years ago, the memory foundation or one of their many alter egos found its way into the hearts and the record-bags of many serious electronic music lovers. in 1997, after setting up their own record labels central and together with jeremiah grow! and other releases on m-plant, 7th city or usm followed. the memory foundation now returns with their contribution for the yore camp, with their >reptiles in exile ep< they prove that they havent lost their magic touch. the track burns with electro-funk fire, with natural kit and cymbal sounds giving the already-surging cut extra thrust and the staccato burble of metallic chords adding berlin flavour. a lithe eight-note bass motif anchors the warm techno-funk of >bass traveller< as a flaring synth motif squiggles alongside rhodes chords and a boogieing clavinet line, and its easy to become so engrossed by the tunes relaxed swing that the artistry of its arrangement can go underappreciated. textbook body music, >summer visions< is an earthier, mid-tempo funk workout thats sure to get the dance floor crowded, while the light-speed closer >reptiles< blazes a slinky house trail whose fresh swing has got yore written all over it. with any luck, we wont be waiting twelve more years for the next memory foundation release

after a recent guest performance on seuil’s eklo label, michael melchner - the young producer and dj from nuremberg - is back with another stunning ep for cargo edition. melchner is the resident-dj of the ‘kiss klub“ party series at nuremberg’s famous club ‘die rakete’, and music aficionados will have had their eye on this up-and-coming artist for a while now. this time around michael melchner dishes up three top-notch house tracks for us. “you understand“ is techhouse at its best, where he deftly holds and rides that balance between deepness and the dancefloor. a continously forward-pushing bassline is combined with a mysterious vocal sample and restrained breaks. „wooob“ grabs you with its devastatingly simple rhythm, while the bassline cuts through with a high dose of funk. topping the track off we have a vocal loop that shows off michael’s affection to the musical beginnings of house. this ties in nicely with the ep closer »just a skip« which reminisces over the sound of chicago. profound melodies, skillfully arranged vocal samples and a whole heap of soul suggest that michael melchner may just have produced a modern house classic. so again, just like on his first ep for cargo edition in may last year, michael melchner has managed to paint a musical portrait combining the present and the past into one classic moment.

swedish electro chef john dahlbäck has cooked up another hot ep - winners and fools. dahlback is still in his early twenties, but he s had more releases than girlfriends with a singles discography edging ever closer to the hundred mark by the week.

schieber continues its way into more easily grooving realms and comes up with these new, elegantly sparkling tracks by berlin resident drei farben house who has already caused a stir with his delicately balanced releases on force tracks and brut!. for schieber drei farben house gives two different insights into his understanding of house music: sander is more tracky and relies on looped chords which bring you closer to house heaven with every repetition, while manifold percussions together with the beats provide the necessary injection of funk. in contrast, anagram expands the frame of grooves and chords for finely ramified bell sounds and softly glowing melodies. for his remix of anagram house routinier prudo (moodmusic/dirt crew) reduces the melodies and displays a firework of funky sound bits - a perfect tighrope walk between minimal and house which combines the best of both worlds.
