the next collaborative release between freeride millenium and pauls musique is a terrific two-tracker from manchester artist joseph louis harland manning under his new alias los angeles with the 7? vinyl release artwork designed by daniel rajcsanyi as part of his ‘baby exhibition in austria. joseph louis harland manning was the drummer of the band wu lyf and is involved in projects like los porcos, the mancunian boyband menage a trois and dream lovers. under his other aliases he released on aficionado, cracki, ocean records and is it balearic? sub label u?ber as well as having made music videos for molly nilsson. here he is fine form across a pair of delicate and moving synth tracks. opener ‘lamour is a gentle cut that starts with celestial chords and wide-open expanses of synth before a buried deep groove slowly comes to the fore. breathy vocals also add to the loved-up, dreamy feel and the whole thing carries you away in a majestic reverie that shifts from ambience to new age house. the track features the artists own field recordings from the streets of berlin, twisting up sounds from the sidewalk into percussive notes that give an organic feel. the perfectly soothing second offering is ‘i wanna go to heaven is a gorgeous synth piece that suspends you in a crystal clear blue sky on a warm summers day. chords are smeared and stretched whilst angelic, wordless vocals drift by. it is the sound of a blissful passage to the afterlife and will leave you feeling cleansed.

paul hester created his cult moon music label in 1997 as a portal for his own productions and sounds. the label was short-lived, with only 3 releases in it’s catalogue, all produced by hester himself. those few releases on moon are now highly sought after among house and techno aficionados who are forever seeking that deeper groove. the interesting part of this story, beyond the amazing music that was released, is that there are many other tracks that never saw the light of the day, thus leaving the full moon story untold. “millennium / days gone by” from 1999 is the second moon music release and is comprised of 2 cuts that boast hester’s idiosyncratic production hallmarks - slick, glacial, minimal electronic funk.

millennium jazz music presents the fifth element lp as we celebrate with the jazz jousters collective who arrive at their 5th anniversary since the group started in 2012. fe stands as the groups 53rd album in total and we applaud them on their relentless work ethic, and also salute you all for helping us to keep these sessions alive.

oberst & buchner are next up on freeride millenium and the two bavaria born, vienna based producers deliver an ep that offers their interpretation of what modern summer togetherness sounds like. the talented pair started making music together aged 15 and aim to cook up emotionally driven jams. they do so on labels like heimlich, underyourskin records, schönbrunner perlen, lokd, and always get the juices going, as they do once again here. beginning with the brilliant greg we dive into a breakbeat bath of summery chords as playful claves dance on the horizon. it is a melodically rich track with spiritual feelings that really bliss you out. on the moodier emile night time arrives and warm chords mix with jangling, organic glass and percussive tinkles that reflect rays of light. it s a perfectly jazzy and loose number that really suspends you in a rueful place. last but not least, embrace is a fluid intergalactic convention with sparse drum kicks weighed down by sombre synths. a skittish, dubstep style groove then comes in and elevates the track with gentle guitar licks and slithering synths adding colour, and overall it has the same zoned out feel as a thousand-yard stare. this is a brilliant mood ep that mixes up the synthetic with the organic, creating some fascinating grooves as a result. the release once again features original artwork from the ever talented daniel rajcsanyi. thanks for purchasing a real copy!

welcome to season five of the jazz jousters sessions. after four years of non stop album releases we thought we d take a few months time out to think and work out what we would do next this season. we decided to attempt another locations series since we are yet to take on some of the locations many of you have suggested via our updates pages and emails. so here we go...
mjm would like to present locations: usa, the vinyl and cassette edition as we continue to explore the sounds, influences and styles of jazz music in different regions of the world.
in this session we hear the result of each jouster as they each chose one or more jazz musicians from the united states and began to work with that sound and come up with an instrumental in their own style, just like in season four. however there was a twist, this time they were challenged to focus on jazz between the years of 1960 to 1969. see what you think of the outcome...

munich pair jorkes continue to build a nice head of steam with a third new single. entitled mindemania, it comes once more on the small but well formed freeride millenium label with a great remix from nikkname.

munich based pair jorkes are something of an enigma, having appeared on the scene recently with a fully formed sound and a desire to let their music do the speaking for them. musically the duo seem to be operating with few boundaries, looking to express their emotional states through their music with scant consideration for styles or genres. this latest release sees jorkes team up with fellow munich resident and vocalist karol schmejchel to deliver a slice of evocative, slo-mo nu-disco. the release kicks of with the original mix of thank you, marrying chugging drums and warm bass with stirring pads and the emotionally charged vocals of schmejchel. its a perfect track for dark backrooms and home lounging alike. the remix comes from manchester trio menage a trois who deliver a sonical beautiful reworking built around heartwrenching keys and heavily reverbed guitar parts. simple understated drums carrying the record along as their vocal treatment soars towards the heavens, this is sublime stuff. the vinyl release will also feature an exclusive instrumental of the menage a trois mix for those who like things a little more stripped back. in keeping with jorkes creative outlook, and following on from their previous release, there will be an exclusive music video of thank you forthcoming which is likely to set pulses racing once again! thanks for purchasing a real copy!

california and new york aren t the only us cities to have pioneered underground hip-hop over the years. back in the nineties, southern states such as memphis, tennessee were also hotbeds for the fast evolving musical phenomenon. as we push on into the second millenium, from the swathes of short-run, tape-only releases that came out in the 1990 s, some are at last being cut to vinyl. shawty pimp and the big pimpin productions crew were brought to international ears in 2014 when his album comin real wit it was pressed to vinyl and sold out in the blink of an eye. gyptology records (a new europe-based hip-hop and egyptian archaology styled re-issue label) now present a vinyl pressing of the 1995 sequel, still comin real . here are eleven original, raw rap cuts, remastered and restored with love. available june 2018 for the first time in the format that never goes out of style. vinyl only for now and in one short-run only, no represses. produced with the full consent and participation of the artists.

the next offering on crosstown rebels comes from italian trio pastaboys, who gift us with a rhythmic and hypnotic three-parter. they invite the inimitable rebolledo to take on remix duties to complete this package. the ep is a trance-inducing affair. the trio lure us in with opener kolo kolo. its funky rhythm sets a precedent as its trance-inducing power builds layer upon layer into an intoxicating and hypnotic groove. abbassa is up next. heavy on the bass, with a sensuality that is palpable. the african vocal adds a tribal touch before the track tumbles into a crescendo of urgent synths. rebolledos version of abbassa is a more cosmic affair, staying true to his psychedelic inclinations and with an added a bass guitar groove. pastaboys have been releasing music since the dawn of the new millenium. they’ve showcased their tasteful and highly refined productions on imprints such as 83 west and defected. releases such as born again, body resonance, limit, hozho, deep musique prove that their music is timeless and that dance music is still a matter of groove and soul.

second transmission from distant worlds comes courtesy of derek carr (for those that knoe, where we met, why so series). his music has been turning heads since the turn of the millenium but only in the last few years has he been getting the recognition he deserves. his productions have a timeless, celestial quality and reward multiple listens, there is always a hint of subtle beauty about his work and this is no exception. scisor and wraith are built for the club whilst fading fast and sunrise in system will work equally well in a club or for home listening. more than a nod to detroit in these productions but all unmistakeably carr productions.
