pizza is the 6th release on dont be afraid, coming hot on the heels of mr. beatnicks synthetes ep and semteks west acyd shelter. the first track on the 12 inch, pizza, combines disco, techno and acid house elements on a broken funky base. goons is a mean little track with caper-like 303s and a bumping trumpet bassline, backed by sweet drum machine beats. dj 3000 takes the fundamentals of the original and replaces them with some of his own locally sourced detroit ingredients, including a euphoric rhodes and some rich pads, to create a peak time banger for fans of dirty bird and the like.

if you have been exposed to this cultural phenomenon called electronic music for more than a while, you will certainly have in mind something more than bright sunsets and perfect waves when you evocate that part of our awesome planet called california. the west coast has provided an own-harvested sound that strives to differ itself from surrounding mainstream conditions, making it fine and classy when it comes to underground house and techno music. alland byallo aint no rookie on the issue, rolling beats for enough years now to need no intruduction. with productions on labels like dirt crew, liebe detail, dirty bird, poker flat or nightlight music (allands own imprint) he can be well considered like the last but one exponent of a whole lineage of californian producers.

round two on plumbum! on the a and with an acute attention for detail, piemont present us with involved. a rolling march through the wild. with bird noise, the scything roar of a gorilla and a weighty bassline. we are drawn through the undergrowth, with the delightful organ drops invoking memories of classic kong and tarzan movies. on the flip the duo get there fidget on. a growling bassline, sci-fi bleeps and moody synth waves, make for a solid tech number.

after several hot tunes on worthy’s anabatic imprint, birminghams tom flynn joins the ranks of the dirtybird crew. i ve battle tested the a-side of this record all around the world. >catch that bird< is a rare mix of deep rooted funk whilst also sounding like a caribbean jungle track pitched down to 126. my favorite!
i d play this ep just on the strength of the a-side but i feel like a lot of attention will also be given to the b-side called >rhode island<. this is a classic piece of deep house with all the melodic elements of a dirtybird jam.
tom sent me at least 7 tracks before i signed these so the guy is certainly prolific and i expect to hear quite a bit more from this up and comer this year.
