where to now? records are proud to present beatrice dillons follow up release to the widely well received * blues dances*. this three track 12 inch sees beatrice step things up a gear in terms of intricacy, experimenting wildly to add to her already astute palette of timbre and rhythm. face a leads the record with the unmistakable skronk of saxophone cutting and jamming over the skeletal pulse of beatrices signature dubbed out techno landscape. initially the inclusion of saxophone acts as an aural abstraction or diversion to extract a little freedom from the pumping cavern of dark dub techno atmosphere punctuated with the mechanical juddering saw-bass, but as the piece develops and we become deep into the groove the inclusion of wild sax snorts trips us up and become the focus itself as new levels of complex melodic and rhythmic detail become apparent within this otherwise structurally obedient space. taking its cues from rabih beaini, miles davis * big fun* era, dresvn and keith hudson, undoubtably face a is a compelling, complex trip… heads down but arms flailing. face b continues the theme but takes the listener far deeper into the cavern. here the concern is more the effects of space within song, a moment where beatrice allows herself to move away from the floor to find a little more room for playful experimentation. the saxophone is further treated with a plethora of effects to compliment the array of dub signals that scatter and skip around the basin. the record closes with sonnier (walk in the light) which strangely somehow manages to feel jazzier in its components, even in comparison to a pair of tracks riffing on a manipulated free-jazz sax part. it sounds strangely unsure of its world, adding to this whole loosely slung, loping feel which somehow fits amongst the stern, brooding, and efficient synth play. beatrice masterfully manages to create a piece here that grows in intensity without ever increasing in pace or texture, every drop is intended to stir the listener a little more than the last. theres a sense throughout all the pieces of having rhythm imposed or even inflicted upon the listener but this is certainly not a conflict of ideas… there is optimism, harmony and above all - wild groove nestled within beatrices world of mutant shuffle.

geneve based pascal viscardi bring his rich and sweltering textures to saft with his first ep for the spanish label. the swiss producers paradiso ep is already the 9th installment and by no means an odd addition to the family. strongly rooted in soulful sounds with firm aesthetics and blissful melodies, this release is exactly what saft is all about. from the moment the pad in the title track starts riding, paradiso immediately hints to a deserted paradise.
tales from the emax (a2) is a groove laden anthem that will soothe those that are into soulful but firm sounds. on the b side, we find remix work of both originals. swiss house stalwart agnes stirs things up with his thriving rework of paradiso called la charme chambertin mixx. on the b2 cut we find saft familiar jefferson belmondo with a cracking rework of the title track *paradiso* called beach mix. 4 strong, groove-laden cuts that celebrate the saft sound like never before.

we find it slightly hard to believe that it s been three years since blocks and escher launched narratives music with their explorative *sagan / broken* 12-inch. unafraid to stray from its drum & bass roots, the label has since become synonymous with encapsulating, poignant, cutting-edge music. favouring quality over quantity, blocks and escher have kept the narratives release schedule sparse, only now hitting the big 1-0. along with the founders, only overlook, asc, loxy & resound and rhyming in fives have had their names tied to the label, and it s the latter who returns now for the tenth release.
first surfacing in 2013 with the hindsight ep, rhyming in fives remains enigmatic to say the least. little to nothing is known about the producer, and aside from a free download that dropped last week via mixmag, the new 4-track light leaks ep is only the second offering ever from the mysterious musician.

g-23 makes his debut under the strange audio dreams moniker, coming through on italy s young art-aud label with a sweltering two-tracker backed by two heavy remixes. -error design 1- is a break-driven jam that never truly drops into pool of nastiness, leaving you yearning more, while -error design 2- strips the beats in favour of glitchy field recordings and percussion-driven drones. pan s nhk yx koyxen remixes the former into a wonky bit of brain dynamite, pushing those breaks in and out his melodic waves, cardopusher makes a deep techno roll out of the same original tune. all in all, a rather essential piece of gear.

cotton claw is a brand new project that brings together four french producers : lileanarrative, zo aka la chauve- souris, yoggyone and zerolex. real live band, each on his pad controller, cotton claw takes us into their world tinged of powerful club music, fluffy house music using massive analog synth, unstoppable arpeggios and sexy granular melodies. the four members of cotton claw, have met in order to play together each part in live, to create a new modern live band, to take and give pleasure to the dancefloor, and give their vision of club music.

up and coming belgium-born activist philippe petit, operator of the knotweed and decision making theory labels, returns to figure spc with a delightfully versatile four tracker. spanning cold-wavesynth electronics, purist club techno and up-building melodic zones, its perhaps petits strongest effort yet. capturing a neo-classical, archaic mood in >mist<, philippe works stunning cyclic synth themes along with tactile filtering drum patterns. >solaris< and >negative zone< then both work stand-out tracky, trippy elements into two killer club weapons, showing off the frenchmans studio skills. the lighter footprint of >suspended< closes the ep with a joyful, above the clouds journey, lifting up weightlessly into the ether.

it’s happening again… after showcasing the up and coming arcarsenal from bass cadet records on their first opus, the london via berlin based record label has found another young, talented and as-yet unknown producer – repo man – for his debut release, repo man has found a perfect home at tinh - deep balearic to weird stripped down techno to floor-filler summer jams, the tinh “anything goes” ethos is fully satisfied on this ep. to top it all off, the record comes armed with the great anaxander on remix duties, transforming “open green” into an upbeat, g-funk house scorcher - those crazy synths will get you throwing that bottle of hennessey high in the air!

featuring heavily on most of drumcodes shows due to his impeccable djing, bart skils is back with a new ep flexing his signature rolling sound and hooks. caressing from one track to another, the use of pads in this ep and using uneasy sounds to build tension in each track. the swelling bass within each track manoeuvres the tracks into dark after hours territory with the help of the subtle percussion.

chicago flotation device follow up last year s brutal untitled acid excursions with a lighter but still pounding 12- on their self-titled, self-released imprint. higher is an extended peak-time acid jam, culled from hours of scissor-sythed outtake tapes and 3rd floor studio sessions, distilled into one bubbling, screeching banger. untitled 9 is a subtler take on the cfd sound. a clean 808-led, floating juno jam that drifts undetected in the dark waters off scarborough bay.

borrowed music return to wax see s a release that very nearly didn t see the light of day. between the years of 1995-99, toka project were writing tracks at diy s studio and releasing ep s with their label, s4g. these tracks were stored on dat tape (remember) and left for release at a later date. when the toka boys moved into their own place the dats were misplaced and presumed lost for good. unknown to anyone at the time, the tracks had simply been placed on a hard drive and forgotten about, until now. so, borrowed is very proud to present a slice of unreleased 90s house just the way we like it

new jerseys finest returns to ovum with the much anticipated follow up to his hugely successful and widely supported 2014 get deep ep, a release that saw harry return to his roots and deliver, with the title track, a true festival and ibiza house anthem. aquarium and what what, the latest double-header from romero, seeks to carry on from where his previous ovum outing left off… with its echoing sax and signature snappy percussion, aquarium leads the release with its wonderful balaeric mood and flavour. whilst on the flip, what what taps into his techier trade, as harry twists and tweaks in a full on dark room frenzy, evoking memories of classic his sondos moments.

white asega co-­owner jack dixon wrote new curtains after a friend who was coming wildly off the rails told him he was a good producer but his tunes were boring. the original version was really sparse and about 300bpm. when jack moved to new york the parts got lost, so he remade the track a dozen times. this was the version we all liked best, although jack never wants to hear it again in his life. it sounds tough and tropical. our friend troy gunner remixed it, and turned it into something so loud and slamming it will knock your teeth out. after telling jack to stop making boring music, mark kodiak spent two horrendous years working with jamie kodiak on a song they ve called taargus. it nearly destroyed their friendship forever but we think it was worth it. it has brutal weapon sounds, nasty snares and an incessant “yo” that has been described as “annoying and unnecessary”. the artist tom pounder has created a blinding video for it that contains brand new colours. french born bass genius bambounou stepped up to remix the track, taming the wild stems into a hypnotic early­morning house stepper. it took us approximately 2000 exhausting facebook group chats, four cross­atlantic flights and one divorce to get to this point. we hope you will enjoy this record for the rest of your lives. rip ken tulley.
