detboi was bought to metalheadz attention via special request and immediately signed up for a project. as it turned out detboi was a long life metalheadz fan and the news of the signing could was absolute music to the dubliners ears. goldie immediately added his sparkle to the title track joyride whilst detboi polished off the rest of the ep. we look forward to releasing more of his music.

over the course of four albums, manchester based trumpeter, composer, arranger and band-leader matthew halsall has carved out a niche for himself on the uk music scene as one of it s brightest talents. his languid, soulful music has won friends from jamie cullum and gilles peterson to jazz fm and mojo as well as an ever-growing international following. his label gondwana records is home to gogo penguin and his own albums have found halsall exploring the modal jazz of john and alice coltrane, paying tribute to the hard bop of the late ’50s and early ’60s or most recently on fletcher moss park drawing on eastern influences in his most personal statement yet. his latest album when the world was one is something of a companion piece to fletcher moss park (much of the music was written at the same time) but draws more explicitly on halsall’s love of spiritual jazz and eastern music as well as his own studies in meditation and travels in japan. beautifully recorded at hasall’s favourite studio, 80 hertz in manchester, and engineered by brendan williams and george atkins it features the recording debut of halsall’s large ensemble, the gondwana orchestra, which utilises the exotic flavours of harp, koto and bansuri flute and eastern scales to create a global palate for halsall’s life-affirming sounds.

hidhawk is the musical alter ego of haydeé jiménez. the mexican-based artist and cultural entrepreneur is running a busy life organizing events and cultural projects alongside the border of mexico and the us. during the night, bedtime stories like alpagain evolve from the field recordings she is collecting on her various journeys. alpagain consists of recordings from istanbul, tijuana, berlin and salzburg, featuring sounds of alpine instruments such as the alphorn, ocarina and hammered dulcimer (hackbrett). the 15 minutes track is brought to the club context on the b-side of the record with a driving remix by gerald peklar and a dub retreatment by analog solutions mastermind eduardo de la calle.

how to introduce the first record by wolfgang tillmans? now considered one of the most significant visual artists working today, his very first passion in life lay with music. this record features on its b-side three songs recorded in 1986 in his home town of remscheid. the a-side features two pieces recorded in 2015/2016.

after putting the band on the map with their first ep two years ago, the band feathered sun has grown into a life of its own. the more live sets they have played, the better they have defined their style. they are spearheading a brand of sound healing music abstractly narrative, always poetic, sometimes flirting with darkness but always perfectly produced to carry the audience into their own world. feathered sun are the collaborative experiment of nu, jo.ke, raz ohara, chris schwarzwaelder, iannis ritter and acid pauli johannes laumer. each have active and flourishing solo artist careers, albeit still have time to collaborate with one another. the six-strong collective are a close-knit troupe who are primarily based in berlin and lima, peru. live improvisation is ultimately what brought the feathered sun project to life - they are open about their laidback, impromptu approach and this is apparent throughout this ep. side a was primarily crafted in peru by chris schwarzwaelder and jo.ke with raz ohara’s mesmerising vocals. the end material was then sent to nu in berlin who crafted two tracks out of it. the ‘bulbo’ ep shows a willingness to explore different approaches within the collective and the music showcases their long-standing affiliation. it is a downtempo ep that has immaculate instrumentation, dreamy pads and brooding vocals throughout. this is intertwined with organic sounds and moody atmospheric melodies, gives the release a timeless and emotive ambience.
