as we welcome another talented artist to our family we asked viken about the first part of a two part release and he told us it s really important to understand that this ep is a series of pictures telling a story. combining the names of all the tracks one gets this interesting and dreamy sentence, on a blue road a white shadow feels the winter. to translate these pictures into music, i needed a very particular sound. since i am a huge fan of jazz music i took one of my favorite records, used a lot of samples and reworked them in my own way. from the technical aspect, i decided to reconnect with my first love: analog machines. i love working with sound textures. i stayed away from my laptop and all my vst/plugins as i felt the need to compose these tracks in an unusual way: i wanted the sound to be really pure. that s the reason why this process was so essential for me. for me, this ep is the first one to sound like this. this is the first of two releases from a deeply talented soul. a patient collage of house, jazz, acid squiggles and deep emotion. played and loved all summer long by lee burridge at all day i dream, these tracks will stay with you through winter and into next summer.

lp reissues cut from the long-awaited 2010 digital remasters for the first time on vinyl and cd, original release from 1980. reissues of a legendary artist, pioneer of the french electronic music. the french proto-electro is making a come-back as we’ve seen it with the success of both cosmic machine compilations. their 7” “onyx” sold over 3 million copies worldwide. space art is behind the massive hits: “onyx”, “give me love”, “love in c minor” and more. one of half of the band, dominique perrier, is one of legend jean-michel jarre’s closest collaborators. recognized as a keyboard virtuoso, he worked on all jarre’s albums from “rendez-vous” (1986)to “oxygène 7-1” (1997) and still tours with him around the world. space art also toured with him in china in the early ’80s. alongside jean-michel jarre and cerrone they are one of the most influential bands that pioneered electro music.

lord of the isles, a.k.a. neil mcdonald, has spent the better part of a decade steadily producing and releasing beautiful music. the esp institute has always wholeheartedly believed in neil’s work ethic and his journey as an artist who constantly refines his vision, and when we inevitably approached in hopes of working together, we were enamoured by the sheer breadth and depth of work he had in progress’. there are two types of artists. one internalises their process, endlessly perfecting their work while finding the endpoint a massive hurdle, in turn they produce immaculate yet very little art. the other is continuously inspired, so full of ideas they can barely work fast enough to articulate them all. the art becomes by-product of their larger trajectory and not just a collection of endpoints. lord of the isles seems to be both, always in an evolving state of process where the work is constantly shed to make way for the new layer growing beneath, yet he holds his cards closely, cherry picking when and with whom he releases his art into the world. neil is simply prolific. he shared with us a vast catalog of unheard beauty, which over a long span of time was collaboratively shaped into his debut album “in waves”. the title speaks to neil’s process both intimately and from afar, it speaks to the emotional ebb and flow of the music itself, and ultimately it speaks to the listener. ahead of the album’s release, we are proud to share with you the single ‘weh-in’, a mesmerizing arpeggio melody that opens and closes, purrs and barks, and plays nicely with its percussive accompaniment over more than 10 minutes. this lengthy single version of the track is joined by a dark and stormy, exclusive non-album cut entitled ‘pik’, as well as a big room rave remix by esp institute resident ian blevins, which take us to a slightly more frantic place while retaining the euphoric essence of the original.

increasingly known for his productions as much as his storied dj sets, eric cloutier approaches the studio with the same kind of precision that marks out his club and festival appearances. on this first release on palinoia he exercises a keen sense of control over playful elements, not least on lead track -heuristic-. the nagging lead synth may hop around the mix, but it stays locked on to a thoroughly focused undercarriage of drums and low end that suits the professional techno set. -ipseity- is lighter in its demeanour thanks to some calming pad tones, but the strong structure of the track remains. the release rounds up with the slower thump of -opprobrium-, surmising cloutier s attitude to the warm-up part of a serious, long-lasting dj set.

Æ is the third part of bjarki triptych of lps to be released this year. Æ is a particularly icelandic form, pronounced “i” in english, bjarki thinks it just looks good. here it is a selection of music that is at its core quite simple, with restrained instrumentation, made on hardware and features a selection of older works and the most recent produced just weeks ago. bjarki is from iceland. born and raised. despite the fact that bjarki is known for making extremely powerful dance floor tracks he doesn’t seem to belong to any particular genre. something this triptych of lps demonstrates very well. his music is at times cinematic and there’s a story behind each track. bjarki’s music always has something to do with him personally, but he’d rather the listener lose themselves in the music than pay much attention to the man behind them. either on a record or to one of his ever evolving live sets.

cbrb s latest triptych for phantasy takes their sound into a more dystopian direction, a world of concrete shopping centres, the occult and physically irresistible repetition. the title track “mecanique sauvage” is a muscular industrial / outsider house track, a stop start rollercoaster that constantly intensifies. one part a brutal exercise in poise and restraint, and one part undiluted disco excess. a contradictory beast of a track. something of a epic (at over 8 mins long) “children of the monolith” drops the tempo to 100 bpm and takes the listener on a very different kind of trip. a widescreen composite of tribal drums, sinister synths and the beguiling mantras of an arcane cult. don t touch the brown acid... “soda jerk” is the everything but the kitchen sink moment on the ep, a hymn to over indulgence. unhinged electronic body music, a gloriously relentless assault on the senses. resistance is futile!

the first release from naissance musik (nm) is a 12” vinyl from the super-group dream scoring (hear and hakim murphy) entitled images of a myth. it is comprised of 4 tracks. a myth is a legendary story that a community validates to explain part of its reality. however any member or group within the community can have his or her own version of the myth, and the myth can also evolve through time. we may all listen to the same track but this track still calls up intimate images for each and every one of us. a myth is full of adventure and mystery, it is epic and full of emotions. it can be anything from the lost ark to greek gods fighting. the aim is to fill our bodies and minds with emotions. the main idea is to tell stories like books or movies, but through musical notes & rhythm. the music makers provide the musical image, the listeners create the myth. and vice-versa.

long celebrated as a hub for new producers to showcase their talents, cdr return to the releasing game in partnership with dimensions festival. up and coming house heads k15 and fyi chris reportedly invited lismore and ben houghton to take part in this collaborative release, resulting in four tracks that wouldn t sound out of place soundtracking a balmy afternoon dance on the adriatic sea. oozing quality and soul throughout, there s a distinctly laid back flavour to the house on offer across this release, although fyi chris add a touch more bite with their grubby lo-fi synth lines on -sugar-.

while producing the viscera trilogy, fango has tried to understand something about himself. in order to do this, he had to enter into his own body, just like dante entered hell, studying and analysing himself from the inside, diving through organs, guts and grey matter. did it work? yes and no, depending how you look at it. for sure, it helped him in the creation of 3 devastating and introspective eps, but a lot of questions are still unsolved. viscera part 3 is the last leg of a journey that disrupted your 2016 and marks the beginning of a new absurd phase for fango, but this is another story. for the time being we leave you with amnios, metacarpo and metulla. this is viscera 3/3.

ixvlf is back at it again following the language of mini-album released earlier this year as part of our ongoing tape series. pushing it further from where we last left off, connor clasen’s vinyl debut reflects our ever growing desire to re-interpret club music in its most primitive and cartilaginous nature. while cleverly obscuring any reference to a specific period of time, involuntary movement shows a sense of the american-based producer stretching disorienting imagery over the existing landscape of proto-industrial — matching the visual interpretation of ailsa ogden undertaking the artwork by way of a new collaboration to be expanded over a handful of releases — where unpolished synthesizers and rhythm machines collide and bawl in a controlled crash. it is an exercise of existing in various states of detachment, a fixation on mechanical repetition and unpredictable behaviors through the haze of helium laughter. definitely one for the animals.

gazel is one of those tunes that went viral from the very first minute. djs like baris k, ata or acid arab are still playin this tune since it was made in 2013. mehmet aslan and dario rohrbach finally managed to create with gazel this kind of tune that blows away every dance floor. the impact was not only on the dance floor. several threads on social media appeared with videos, desperately looking for the track id. but there were also the ones, that had to rip it of a set of baris k, so they can play it. the b-side goes definetly deeper when alma negra is able to make a tune you want to open your set. on this gem they combine northafrican folklore sounds with classic deephouse drumpatterns and trippy synths. fleeting wax has managed to put together some of the most promising artists of the hour, having dario rohrbach on board who is part of the alma negra collective and will hit this year with promising releases for example on yoruba. this release is going to find his way in many dj-bags and wont leave it so fast

parachute is proud and excited to release art rock unit starfuckers legendary sinistri lp, remastered and pressed on vinyl for the very first time since its original version in 1994 on underground records. formed in 1987, starfuckers is an italian avant-garde band primarily from the 1990s, considered a notable part of the experimental rock scene and one of the more out there acts during their active tenure. originally inspired by 80s post-stooges noise and new york city no wave, starfuckers eventually carved their path to their own distinctive sound by following in the footsteps of xenakis, john cage, maderna and stockhausen — all without ever abandoning their own attitude and raw personality. an incredibly important record for us here at the label, sinistri feels just as fresh in 2016 as it did in 1994.

washington, dc native joe quarterman had his first hit in 1973, an instant funk classic that was part of the capital city’s red hot 70s funk scene. “so much trouble on my mind” is a party rocking anthem still being sampled and played over 40 years later. fort knox five recently got quarterman back in the studio to record a new song, the stripped down funk banger “don’t go”.

after “theory of strings (part1)” ennio colaci and fabio della torre present the second part! the first track of a-side is the one who gives the title to the whole project, - theory of strings-, a dubby groover with a funky and psychedelic feel in the vein of a more coloured and dirtier studio 1 or soundhack. the -feeling good vibe- keeps going relaxed and chill with the smart up and down mood of the track -forty degrees- while on b side minimono get drier, minimalistic and more mysterious with the subtle after-hour jam of rewind. this strong effort by fabio and ennio ends trough the cinematic atmosphere and the romantic piano notes of the gentle but raw closing act -still mine-. mind the strings!
