it was only a short time ago when these 2 young up and comers made their respective debuts on our label and in the few months between then and now, they have gone on to skyrocket up through the ranks, conquering dancefloors, charts and dj crates-while becoming household names synonymous with quality and consistency.
florian kruse and nils nürnberg need very little introduction these days but for those that have been asleep or living under a rock, a good start would be to check their recent output on fine labels such as nrk, om, moodmusic, dessous and our very own dieb, to name a very select few. their first combined effort on the label has resulted in the >suerte ep<, a tight collection of deep as hell, tech infused house numbers heavily characterized by their attention to groove and addictive, seductive chord progressions that have become a hallmark of their production prowess.
to add some spice to an already sterling and stylized package, we have enlisted our good friend (and also mood music alumnus) alexander maier, to remix the titular >suerte< where he adds his considerable musical vocabulary to the proceedings, peppering a very tasty arrangement with piano chord stabs and throbbing basslines resulting in a gorgeous, summery house re-interpretation that has to be heard to be believed!
as if this werent enough, fresh from an impressive debut on nils and florians save room records we have been lucky enough to secure a percussion led, funk infused remix of >achieving balance< from bright new boys on the block io who round things off nicely and add another dimension to the >suerte ep<.

the travel reports of the wilderness ep part 1 & 2 follows a documentation of a time when the cheapers were together in a dark vault and they were only attending the on going outer world through a >white hole<. in chapter a1 they report about the mondane mess that interfuses through the small opening into their facultative dungeon. they aim towards their profile and fill their surface with melody and intoxication. b1 describes basseruptions in front of the white house and while buzzing, pouring oil onto the strings of their piano, to proove the efficiency of renewable soundenergies. their mission was succesfully kept a secret until rising winds released the manuskript blowing them out of the darkness to the cd of the current groove-magazine. finally all parts are official and available on upon you records.

after a some big remixes and a nice original outing this summer on get physical, catz n dogz return back to their home label. this time the guys team up with their friend, the hot producer, pol_on while also featuring the candid vocals of fellow mothershipper , monty luke. this is a great single to check out as we wait for their new 2nd album for mothership due out in the spring of 2010. the sexy analog sound of the original mix will fit well within any proper house set, but i particularly prefer the drama queen mix which breaks into a beautiful melodic section 3 quarters of the way through. groovy.

the second record >trapez 100 pt2< features a great dynamic track by dominik eulberg, and two remixes, one by break 3000 of oliver hackes legendary trapez track >der vampir von düsseldorf< and the other by the famous berlin duo format:b of florian meindls hit track >blast<. welcome back to the trapez world. dominik eulberg released stunning records on trapez in the past: >gasthof zum satten bass< was a huge hit and also >adler< createda waves of enthusiasm. with his exclusive track >ambivalent< for the trapez 100 release he refers to the days when techno was defined through its drive and enormous dynamic. >ambivalent< is exactly such a pounding driving track with a big synth joining in that creates joy and a great rush. mr eulberg was in a really good mood when he finished this track and we expect it to be played on many big raves. >der vampir von düsseldorf< (eng. the vampire from duesseldorf) is a legendary track, we released without any writing on the etiquette and just communicated by word. very few people knew that oliver hacke produced it and a lot of people like michael mayer and richi hawtin played the limited 12 inch a lot. now you get a very cool and fantastic, monumental, grinding remix by dirt crew records label owner break 3000. the format:b remix of florian meindls slammer >blast< is a winner. they manage to walk the fine line between techno and minimal by using sounds from mystery movies and funky beat patters, as well as slow down beats which create funky breaks and interludes that provide the original with a more trippy and rhythmic side.

straight off the heels of his highly successful bird brain album teaser tracks, aundy and beat that bird comes the definitive claude vonstroke record everyone has been waiting for. the a side is classic genius cvs at work. he constructs a mad vocal pattern up and down through 4 octaves and all the vowel sounds of the live human voice. then he creates a chord out of the notes all coming together for en even bigger surprise in the 2nd half. this track is quite simply unique. there is nothing else like it. the b-side resembles the freaky side of cvs harking back to the tech funk sound of tracks like chimps. this time claude makes an ultra-wide filter sweep sound like a pair of humongous tits bouncing up and down on a trampoline. the boob jokes are there but the track is so filthy dirty its hard to even find time to chuckle.

c series goes big for their 5th release and brings some big peak time mayhem!
c5, omen: doesnt really need much on an introduction, the famous track gets funked up, flipped over and goes flat out for a twisting and turning journey through the well known parts of the original and then bangs on from there in true c series style.

jesper dahlback is one of swedens leading djs/ producers with a lengthy back catalogue to his name, including co-production on two tiga albums, the hugg and pepp project with cousin john dahlback, and remixes for the likes of rex the dog, zoo brazil, arnaud rebotini of black strobe, thomas p heckman, robyn, the knife, and depeche mode. jesper has music in his genes, but it was the musical movements in detroit, berlin and london that inspired him to start producing techno, back in 1991 in his bedroom studio. completely hooked, by 1993 he d formed the stockholm-based globe studios together with peter benisch and adam beyer (following a chance meeting on the train to love parade?) and has worked there ever since. in 1996 jesper started the imprint, blank, mainly for his own material, and simultaneously launched joint venture dk with thomas krome - one of the first labels in sweden with a techno house crossover approach! in addition to making music for various techno labels around the world and working with planet rhythm, jesper met up with swiss-born stephan grieder who had just started the svek label. the duo started to experiment with different sounds, drawing on house musics roots, utilising vocals and acoustic instruments. jesper now describes his sound as >ranging between the analogue sounds of the roland sh101 and the precision mathematics of my computer. i m a researcher and developer of unheard sounds! since the founding of globe studios, i have always been looking for new ways to bend the rules and test the unknown. when i dj, i just play my own productions blending old classics with new unreleased demos.< a producer first and foremost, jespers dj dates find him weaving a soundscape of his productions, remixes and collaborations with new material at every gig, as well as musical elements and sounds worked through the set. one of his favourite current ventures is his part in jori hulkkonens acid symphony orchestra.

the model is no stranger to gigolo, and we (the royal we) are no strangers to the model. as a supporter of gigolo records, you, our fated reader, should be familiar with our protagonist previous gigolo adventure. but in the words of the late george harrison, >all things must pass< and with this in mind we would like to reintroduce...
the model doesnt just have his own sound, he has in fact attempted to engineer his own genre: dark-techno-baroque. the sound has been crafted through a penchant for aristocratic mannerisms and a passion for high fashion and low fetish. it also happens to pretty succinctly sum up part of his unique personality. set against a backdrop of refined charm, there s an underbelly of something dark and brutal, which is possibly the best way to describe the a-side >in the night<. in many ways this could be seen as a return to form for gigolo, immediately poppy but structured as a classic song with haunting vocals underpinned with a driving techno rhythm. to further consolidate the techno aesthetic look no further then >flex on the b-side and you have a pounding track that could have been played by daft punk in 96 and will probably find a home with a diverse selection of djs today.

since more than 10 years dennes deen is one of the most important djs in the nightlife of austria. with his special sound he always plays himself into the heart of his audience. besides his many gigs he works also on own releases with success. with his studiopartner he had already some releases on philipp straubs label titanium and through that cooperation dennes got the offer to do a remix for the owner of the label, which was published on deep dishs label yoshitoshi. what dennes deen will do in the future is not sure yet, but we are sure that we will hear a lot of him furthermore. the remix on the flip is by gary beck, a fixture on labels such as edit select, perc trax and soma. this one will go into the cases of hawtin, beyer and the likes in no time!

peter grummich is a man who needs little introduction. peter has been producing grade-a techno and house for over a decade now on some of the most established electronic dance music labels in europe. peters unique production techniques draw upon a deeper sense of music. segeltuch – >the triolig deep track< is a dark and stripped down tech-house journey. chunky snares and simplistic high hats meld with ominous synth dripping with dub-styled delays. classically detroit sustained string sounds and rich analogue sweeps reflect peters loving detail oriented production at it s finest. what is most remarkable about this collection of sounds is that it gives segeltuch – >the triolig deep track< a remarkable versatility, both dancefloor energy and time.
elevation funk is no average b-side. elevation funk is a super sexy house groove that does the job right. deep and hypnotic analogue stabs slowly modulate to keep the bodies swinging on the dancefloor. odd synthetic effects and cut up noises just drip in overdriven dub-styled delays keeping the groove from getting style and providing delicious ear candy for the dancefloor. then about half way through this journey peter slowly brings back in a wet sounding hat pattern to bring this slow cooking bomb to the boiling point.

everythings here is a special record. constructed to epic proportions typical of a danny howells production, this is a building track for the bigger rooms. evolving through swaying drum patterns and a gentle rising and falling melody, the moment comes from the mammoth pads in the break. liquid thang is a funked up floor-mover for the tail end of summer. jazzed up by splashes of horns and flutes, there is a clear old-school feel to the track that marries neatly with the low-down bass grooves, cosmic-sounding distorted keys and chopped up vocal refrains. smooth and shiny!

pole folder has emerged as an intrinsic part of the emotive dance music juggernaut that has been steadily powering through club land over the course of the last few yearsà alongside djs such as guy gerber, guy j, and james holden, pole folder has been at the forefront of a movement back towards the melody rich sounds on which house music is based. his first 2 releases on label la tour garnered huge support from the likes of sasha, laurent garnier, luciano, carl cox and christian smith. this offering starts off with pole folders original, which features the vocals of sean ryan, delivering epic slabs of sound, stacked atop glitchy lo-fi drums that result in a listening experience that simply swallows you whole. the vocal whilst gritty retains a rich and lush quality that is the perfect overlay to this track.

rogue state ? logical regression - another meaty slab of rogues own niche influenced dubstep style, this track was influenced by the mighty ltj bukem. rogue is on top form here with depth and emotion created through the synthy intro whilst the tearout drop will get anyone moving. twisted ? infect - hailing from germany and part of the dutty dubs crew, twisted is starting to make real impact on the international scene. the super slick mixdown is what first attracted us to him but it was this phenomenally heavy weight track that made us decide to release twisted. bass face time!

detroit based multi instrumentalist jimmy edgar brings his unique electronic vision to items & things for the labels keenly anticipated fourth release. edgars versatility is well documented with influences ranging from jazz, funk and r&b through to chicago house and of course detroit techno. for this outing he puts his distinctive r&b tinged electronica to one side, laying down some timeless acid house grooves that pay homage to the founding fathers of the genre. the sublime techno soul of the title track funktion house kicks off the 4-track ep with sweet chord stabs and laid back laser sweeps dominating the intro. a gentle yet infectious background melody thatll pull bodies to the dancefloor like bees to honey completes the summertime vibe with each element effortlessly evolving as edgar applies subtle ring shifts and delays to the down tempo groove.

ironic? no, it’s dead serious: sally shapiro keeps on dreaming of barbie and ken. sometimes good things come to those who wait, as is the case with sally shapiro. one shouldn’t really imagine the bashful swede from göteborg, who never performs live, setting a new trend for turning down lucrative offers. and the thought that she is working on something hip, is most likely even a little eerie for her. after all, she s just into something, which she’s been doing since her childhood in the 1980s — singing songs in the style of her idol sandra (”maria magdalena“). if she hadn’t met her companion johan agebjörn, who despite his musical socialization with techno in the 1990s has been deep into italo disco for the past few years and is a collector of zyx records, sally’s passion for synthi songs and fairy-like female vocals would have remained private. however, johan was screwing together some italo-style songs when he asked sally (whose voice he’d only heard from a previous christmas party karaoke) if she would improvise on his soft keyboard tunes, their collaboration was a done deal.
subsequent to their first releases on the labels diskokaine and permanent vacation, sally shapiro suddenly found herself in the midst of the ultra-hip neo/italo-disco movement, which is especially big in scandinavia. why of all things on the northern peninsula, where one traditionally listens to black metal and indie rock played with legs spread apart, the peculiar, yet sunny disco music became such an export hit, stays one of the mysteries of the pop business. it’s a fact, though, that next to internationally celebrated norwegian neodisco-heroes lindström, prins thomas and todd terje, the lovely sally has become the scandinavian disco-act in the mean time.

the third in struts inspiration information studio collaboration series brings together an intriguing pairing between one of africas great bandleaders, mulatu astatke, with the next level musicianship of the heliocentrics collective from the mighty roster of stones throw / now again. known primarily through the successful ethiopiques album series and the film soundtrack to jim jarmuschs ?broken flowers, mulatu astatke is one of ethiopias foremost musical ambassadors. his selfstyled ethio-jazz sound flourished during the swinging addisÑ era of the late 60s as he successfully fused western jazz and funk with traditional ethiopian folk melodies. the heliocentrics have become known as one of the uks foremost free-thinking collectives of musicians, inspired by a wide palette covering sun ra, james brown, david axelrod and all manner of psych, afro and eastern sounds. the collective have featured on records by madlib and dj shadow. now a fixture within the stones throw / now again roster, they forged their own genre-breaking directions in the astral analogue groove on their 2007 debut album, out there. a number of tour dates around the release and headline slots at festivals throughout 2009 have been confirmed.

pryda returns with yet another melodic club monster waves. this is a classic pryda production with the rising synth lines and the catchiest of hooks. already essential new tune for pete tong, and already being caned by john digweed amongst others. expect to hear this at all the closing parties in ibiza and right the way through until the autumn. massive

patrick begins with his techno bomb “tooth n nail”, a track that showcases a heavy detroit influence with smooth synth work reminiscent of productions from robert hood and carl craig. midway through the track, patrick keeps us guessing with a wobbly synth line that adds playfulness to an otherwise straightforward, moody journey. an understated use of serene female whispers throughout gives this tracks techno classicism a fresh sound. next patrick gives us “davinches”, a chugging tech-house track that pairs a deep, buoyant bass line with a tight, resonant kick, giving it a dynamic groove. patricks tight percussion work keeps things moving with its rims, clicks, and ticks set against a spooky, playful melody that energizes and propels the track to its finish. fans of guido schneider won’t want to miss this one! on the flip, nyc’s elon of clink recordings fame, and a newcomer to klectik, takes on remix duties with a minimal techno take on patrick’s “tooth n nail”. elons version is a pulsating, stripped down mind-bender marked by sub-bass and the sporadic clangs of raw machinery — sexy! this remix maintains the smooth character of patricks original in melodic sensibility, but stands on its own via sparse rhythmic patterns resulting in a deeper, moodier treatment.

top ten of techno dj legend dave clarke and ben sims !! michael walgram, born and still living in steyr, started his dj career at the age of nineteen. that time he was deejaying at small private parties, heating up the vibes with commercial beats. the artist mike turrento was born. however, he soon started to alter his style and went from commercial music to fine, chilly, yet pumping and pounding tribal techno. he is especially known for enriching his sounds with numerous sound effects using different equipment. the hype of minimal techno did not alter his individual style, yet he tried to combine minimal and classic techno with breakbeats. through adding skillbreaks, speedbreaks, scratches and spins he managed to find the perfect mixture and created outstanding classic breakbeat techno sets.

four roses recordings deliver another stunning release by sebastian gaiser under the classic flowers moniker. in the past hes been responsible for the mujaba releases and some yet unreleased collaborations with label colleague motor city drum ensemble. whichflower is a fascinating yet strange house groover moving from beep to bleep. using citations from way back, this one is spreading flowers across all sorts of dance floors. aclaime is finally making way for a weird approach towards minimalistic dance music, featuring a group of cimbalom virtuosos recorded on a recent journey through hungaria that makes it sound like a sunday trip to panoramabar. which flower would you be?

alex finishes some dark experiements in the lab with this first outing the black series from credo. from time to time you can expect some really dark approaches to the technoside of life. the kick off now with the dark summer nights, pt1 flows constantly and pushed forward through some low chords which finally return to a super low bass-driven drumming pattern. the second part is kind of fragmented, alsways evolving and finally finding the way to an rolling end, somehow even more dark than part one. this is gets huge support already from the likes of len faki, speedy j, chris liebing, gary beck and the other usualy credo-suspects. the bacl series will be strictly limited to 500 copies onlyfor each release!!!

continuing along with our uplifting vibes from our last get digital release, ‘amourette’, courtesy of pierce & jerl, the next installment comes from the talented swedish producer and dj, tiger stripes. since his first productions mikael nordgren has been embraced by the whose who ofthe continental house and techno music scene. prominent producers such as carl craig, king britt and jerome sydenham have all heavily supported his music.the latter with whom he has a collaborative project called go bang. since his last ep, blackroom entertainment, appeared on get physical last summer he has stayed busy through an onslaught of remix requests for manyrespected labels.

after almost 2 years without publishing new material. the label properproud reappears with this ep limited to 250 copies. the owners of the label santi and roger (strange connection) have worked very hard to remind everyone with this record that the electro-techno and ebm will not die ever! this time, properproud back with more force and with the intention of staying forever. closing mouths includes 4 tracks of 4 major artists and the name isn t coincidental. it s time to shut many mouths that don t rely on this kind of music the first one closing mouths (a1) has been signed by the owners of the label (strange connection) is the first time published in properproud. a track of pure ebm, dark and evil but with great force and which has received great support from artists like angel molina and dave clarke who has played several times in his white noise radio show. the second one hurt me (a2) has been signed by jonathann cast in collaboration with the voices of drey. after publishing in dancefloor killers come to properproud and do it in a forceful and dark track that can move any dance floor. bluntly electro-techno and without mercy! on b side, we find 2 of the best signings he has made during that properproud parentheses. in the first cut (b1) adriano canzian, currently one of the most bizarre techno artists, with halim the dream shows because david carretta and dj hell is set in it. a brutal track, direct and intended to enjoy it in a club. dave clarke has supported it without hesitation. and to finish off the ep, ruben montesco (b2), after his passage through lasergun and other labels turn to properproud to demonstrate in madrid that also makes good techno and ebm. insomniac s red room is a dark track, evil but with a lot of energy and a perfect voice. rubÚn besides being a great friend and supporter of properproud is undoubtedly one of the best producers of this style at national level. 4 tracks that shape a piece of craft for lovers of brazen sounds and is the first of a series of 12 inch that will see the light soon and will be limited to 250 copies. properproud is back .... stop the minimal. use your brain!

afu limited welcomes alex long to it s artist catalogue and he starts with two slammin and cool technotracks with ultra trippy vocals! there is not much need to say anything about these tracks, just listen and enjoy the trip through the space age with a fast beating heart! since he was young, he has always been impressed by the sounds of the synths, electro pop and later on acid house. in the beginning of the 90ies, when the slovenian electronic scene was still in the making, he was a regular guest in the legendary k4 and palma in slovenia. he was taken further into the world in 1998 when he took his first steps behind the turntables and he has been producing music since 2004. since then, he has had quite a few releases and remixes for different record labels. he has dj gigs with huge names of the electronic scene and in large festivals in slovenia and became the official slovenian hero of the future in 2007 at the disconautica festival.he spends much of his time in his studio, where his thoughts are converted into notes and melodies, and as he often states, he finally found a style that suits him and always finds a challenge in. what is that style? he doesn t like to be defined by a specific music style, as he prefers and is influenced by many different genres of electronic music. alex long is definitely a name we will hear of in the future!

rebolledo is an artist from xalapa, mexico, who is very much part of the comeme family of latin american artists. he s been around from the early days when he used to provide music for the buenos aires based bumbumbox street parties. so far he s had tracks on previous comeme releases, notably pitaya frenesi, but this is his first full release on his own. rebodello is the consummate comeme artist, with a quirky sense of humour, a unique latin american approach to dance music and a lean lo-fi approach to track making that is built to cut through on any sound system. lead track >guerrero< follows in comemes now established strange sense of humour, guerrero means warrrior and is a track about a >guerrero< who comes out at night and dresses in leather, it s all shouted vocals simple beats and 80s style synths. venganza y seduccion means vengeance and seduction and features suggestive panted echoing vocals over a cosmic disco bassline, while atmospheric chords build in the background, if this sounds strange it s because it is, but the combination works really well in a club.
the b side of the record is much harder and more techno-like - marchante is completely different, aggressive kick drums, a pulsing bassline and siren-like synths bring this track a panicked feel, which is offset by the way the drums build into tough patterns. raid features strange nonsense vocals over a pulsing rhythm track that reminds of old chicago acid, if it wasn t for the strange atmosphere. rebodello is a very welcome addition to the world of dance music.
