focusing on low slung house music full of swing and swagger, jordan peak has a knack for creating raw analogue charm and already encompasses a growing spectrum of sounds. currently in the midst of a speedy ascent through the production ranks, his output already includes an intriguing set of releases, for a uk act, on labels such as robsoul, raum...musik, saved and tsuba. this is quite an introduction to music making, considering that jordan only released his first record in late 2009.

between 1978 and 1984 can as a group were utilising the innerspace studio in cologne less frequently in order to search for new ways to develop their sound and creativity. however drummer jaki liebezeit and holger continued to record and experiment at the studio and czukay considers this time as the most fruitful and creative period they spent together. born from this time was >secret life< and >in space< and these are presented on a white vinyl disc in a fantastic full colour thick card sleeve. limited & hand-numbered!

sonic underground compiles remixes by the ccc family of up-and-coming indie artists – four floor-ready, mutant hybrids of rock, pop, disco and deep house. belgian firebrand mugwumps rework of cccs own acid snow transforms the acid/no-wave original into a disco-house monster thats earned accolades from the likes of ewan pearson and magda. ivan smagghe calls the remix a no-nonsense record. while some look for experimental arty-ness, some for the big hit, all of this pretending to be underground, mugwump pull out of their sleeves what is properly hard to achieve, a cool big track.in a similar way, the rest of sonic underground explores new combinations of arty edginess and mass appeal. mack winston & the reflections see their swaggering glam-rock transformed by ccc into a deep back-room sex jam thats getting support from the wolf + lamb crew and is featured on soul claps compilation cd for mixmag in february. the flipside highlights remixes by cccs own night plane: with its atmospheric guitar and emo vocals, his take on presssures sounds like if the cure ever showed up on crosstown rebels, and his re-design of fellow new yorker baby alpaca is a dreamy k-hole lullaby, with blissed-out melodies that make it an after-hours snuggle classic.

another city now is the debut ep from ango aka andrew gordon macpherson, the next fresh voice hailing from montreal, canada on the luckyme label. a frequent collaborator with jacques greene, lunice & nycs azealia banks, now is the time for ango to step out alone. over this 6 track narrative - written on the road whilst touring in january 2011 – one hears late 80s pop, early 90s house and contemporary rnb arise in equal measure. every bit the writer as he is the producer, this record is a lyrically polarised selection of girl songs expressing the giddy way up and the painful way back down. but theres something defiantly warm in angos music that serves as a refreshing antidote to 2011s endlessly morose electronic music. where polysynths and hi hats spring above plates of live processed vocals, chopped samples are harmonised upon, punctuated with thumping drums. another city now is a balanced record: upbeat and deep, vintage and yet totally modern, as heart aching as it is uplifting. our tenth record is something special.

fresh from a full tour of the uk, django django are pleased to announce the release of new single ‘default’ through because music. the band have been busy doing great things in the east london bedroom slept in by their drummer, producer and de facto leader david maclean. amongst those great things is stand-out album track ‘default’ and of course their self-titled debut lp which will grace us with its presence on january 30th. vincent neff (singer and guitarist), jimmy dixon (bassist), and synth operator tommy grace make up the quartet, who met at art school in edinburgh. django django’s story looks set to be a long and compelling one going by early response to their debut record. by banging together their thirst for adventure and their exacting high standards, they’ve produced an album that seems to have everything, but on which everything never seems too much.

mowar has reached its 10th release! this release heads into a darker direction with four solid and mental techno movers. searle is a new name to join the mowar ranks, but his sounds are pure, raw with a pinch of dark ambience. the record opens with the title track mind transfer, which brings a raw oldskool 808 feel layered with hypnotic basic channel-like chords and a subtle but most effective acid line. modern love s claro intellecto on remix duty turns the track into a slow moving warehouse monster, throbbing its way to a drugged chicago-esque jacking feel yet retaining the original darkness of mind transfer. on the flipside succubus lives up to its ominous title. this track is a dark hypnotic affair with fierce kickdrums piercing through an obscure sound palette of eerie pads and deep basses. razor sharp modulated noise then invades the whole thing turning the track into a punishing dark workout. finally unauthorized brings a more edgy and experimental sound to the whole, starting of with a dubby bassline and graveyard shift pads, but once the piercing hi-hats kick in, the track shifts to straightforward almost cristian vogel-like mental techno. by the way… searle is a new moniker of mowar frontman franco cangelli.

marcus meinhardts new record is there and with it a hole rig of remixes. checkpot has become a typical meinhardt that twirls with a cool funkyness and mysterious melodies through the dancers brain. the producer and dj okain which is known especially through his releases on tsuba rec. is taking the theme by the fuze and is relighting the dancefloor with his bass accelerator. our upon you approved colleague pele also likes to play with fire and got together with the artist findling for his remix. they turn the wind towards the morning and let the flames turn into a trip-dub direction. similar does the upon you artist echonomist who stears the digital bonus track with a heating value of glowing soundscapes as usual.

the last record in wunderkind gerry reads trilogy of 12 inches arrives to round off the first stellar year for fourth wave. all by myself carelessly builds and chops through a dusty loop and brooding male vocal, like a inebriated bum woozily recalling all but forgotten nights dancing at the music box in the early 80s. continuing on the chicago theme, gerry cracks out a jazzy sample and clipped vocals on what a mess blending in his own unique style the unlikely bedfellows of disco house and drone. drone disco house, anybody?

limited remastered reissue of the hugely in demand 12 inch release of pedestrians super phat slice of balearic grooviness >commuter fantasy<. massive on the cosmic scene after being championed by djs daniel baldelli and beppe loda, this record is extremely hard to get hold of in the original and commands super-high prices in internet auctions. despite being created by successful uk pop production duo swain and jolley, this only ever came out as a limited 12 inch in canada never getting a us or uk release but its italo-esque slow-building dreamily insistent sound has secured it a dedicated following amongst discerning disco and balearic lovers since.

this 4-track ep is the first official release from new jerseys mikeq, one of the unquestioned leaders of the current vogue-house scene, and follows in the wake of a slew of self-released tunes he has dropped over the past few years. let it all out is also the second record on kingdoms fade to mind imprint, which has already received mountains of praise despite its short discography. largely built upon raw, upfront drum sounds, recycled snippets of hip-hop and r&b, and, most importantly, the ever-present >ha< (itself a repurposed masters at work sample), vogue house seemingly offered the sort of sound that tastemaking and blog-reading djs would snap up with aplomb. hell, even diplo championed the ballroom scene. yet, for whatever reason, the expected vogue-house explosion hasnt really happened. while a handful of non-ballroom producers and djs (most coming from the world of bass music) have experimented with the genre, the music essentially continues to hum along in the underground.

terence: terry’s record label la vie en rose gets set to re-release the huge hit >key of love< for the third release on the label, also featuring a rework from u s h and a remix from hold youth aka seuil and le loup.>key of love< was released for the first time back in 2002 on the label d-note by sleaze, which was made up of u s h and greg. it graced the dance floors of all the best underground clubs from ibiza (dc10) to paris (zebra) and it also featured on >kwality<, the ralph lawson and dan ghenacia compilation, gaining further popularity. limited copies were pressed so it quickly became a favourite for the vinyl collector.

>the movie song album< is a 1966 studio album that consists of songs from films, opening with the theme from the oscar. bennett described the album in his autobiography as his all time favorite record. among the arranger and conductors were none other than neal hefti and quincy jones.

numbernin6 is no new comer to the dubstep scene, but this is his first record for london label smokin sessions. the recordings are blissful and floaty, as you would expect from smokin sessions and really shows off what numnernin6 can do when he goes deep. the whole ep is masterfully produced and you can really hear these tracks have been given a lot of attention. i cant pick a favourite, but all 3 are a great listen. sit back, relax and spark it up rude eye!

originally recorded in detroit, 1982 by the late danan potts a.k.a. superlife. at that time danan was hanging around the recording institute of detroit where juan atkins was training in production. danan was interested in atkins style of dance music and quickly recorded >go bananas<. bananas was released locally on southern sun records in hyper limited quantity, it is today one of the most sought after underground detroit techno recordings of all time.

obsession is really the programmatic title of tobias olivers work of the last years. two years after his digital winter / summer release in 2009 and the human technology debut with his electro band datawelt, it is really a obsession of him, to bring out his first solo release on vinyl. if you listen to this record, you will be sure, that tobias oliver was born in a electro disco somewhere in this world. the analogy to the old school electro sound can not be ignored, when he reuses the drum and percussion sounds of well known drum machines of the past, combined with bass and synthlines, pads and strings of analog synthesizers from the past and the future - at the latest by then - you will think, that you are really out of space!

youre about to feel (again) why every record ka§par does for groovement takes a while to be released. simply because special things need time to emerge. after whatchadoos underground buzz hes been intensely working in the studio, readying his most mature record yet. inspired by the great masters and their legacy, ka§par pushes himself towards the future with his own galactic sound palette. ode to the ancients ep is certainly his most accomplished, consistent and authorial work to date

one of the first ever female dubstep producers dot is back with a new record label read write music. >get up ep< has been spreading with support from dubstep dj around the world-ranging from germany to florida, from uk to russia and has been played on radios such as redbull music academy radio. this ep certainly aims to fill the gap of music with a strong socially responsible message and is aiming to encourage debate on the current state of the world we live in.

kowton and tom dicicco, residing in bristol and manchester respectively, make very different music from one another. kowtons seems to come from house, perhaps also electro and garage, often quite slow in tempo and hard to pin down to a specific genre. toms music is techno, bass heavy, melodic, textured and rooted around 125 bpm. with these distinctive styles the idea of a split ep might seem ambitious, but the result is four cohesive but different tracks that show the talents of both artists perfectly in the format of two originals on one side and two remixes of each others originals on the other. tom diciccos original is driven by a low-mid range thick stab and pounding kick drum, littered with intricate but not overbearing hi hat and snare work and some very atmospheric mid range. kowtons is subtle and sparse, low fidelity and plodding, with rattling percusion carrying the tune along. on the other side of the record, kowtons remix of toms original is driven by an enormous bassline, with an off kilter dubby feel to the slow tempo and genre defying tune. toms remix of kowton rounds off the ep with a return to stab driven techno, pulsating, dynamic and trance inducing.

chicagos richard pegue was one of the most intriguing figures to come out of the chicago soul scene in the 1960s and 1970s. raised during the citys fertile doo-wop era, pegue immersed himself in music immediately. he cut his chops as a mobile dj, record store clerk and recording artist before stepping into the booth as one of chicagos most enduring radio personalities to grace the citys airwaves. the nickel and penny labels featured in this compilation are twin sides of the same eccentric coin, pegue himself.

the next record from the abstract acid catalogue will be the first in a series of various artist works. downtown dirt 1 features 4 cuts of chicago house and acid workouts by jackee, interface88, mmmc (man made mechanical culture), and steve summers. pure and simple raw grooves made for those who still like to jack.
