this time we present you with 3 new names on the labels roster. quell has already been causing waves this year with releases on esteemed imprints like ibadan, 8 bit and these days amongst others. his track >real people< has been a favourite with us since quell sent it out a few months back. steady and with a very pumpy bass, the track builds a very sensual mood reminiscent of the music played at the sound factory back in the days. jack union is a side project from label owner alex tsotsos for his retro sounding house productions. >you can make it< is exactly that. chunky drums and an oldschool sounding organ set the theme for a playful and heavy classic house track. on the flip, we introduce two long time friends the square room heroes. >now is the time< combines modern sound aesthetics with a smokey voice urging you to release the freak. from claap with love

the first release on the hotly anticipated recore records, a-fair comprises of three tracks from jack barton, with a remix for the lead track from pawas, a must have name in anybodies record collection. jack barton although relatively new to production, with this his second release, he is no stranger to making waves on the dancefloor and can be regularly seen playing not only in his hometown of manchester, but also much further afield. this ep showcases his talents as a producer with a spectrum of sounds from each track.

returning to the kitchen after an over extended jaunt in the bathroom, the sound diggers grant us with another slap happy handful of flavor with their new piece entitled >dont flap just jack<. here at flapjack we do encourage everyone to wash their hands before returning from the bathroom to the decks. with the nasty low down n dirty grooves that are all over this ep, i am not so sure the sound diggers washed up very well, or at all. as we say in the business, when you get dirt in your salad, eh, its just a lil flava.

tony ollivierra begins 2011 by getting down with the machine sound. bordering on acid-funk, this ep really gets it shakin. the title track jericho, reeks of the latter days of disco with a deep bass line that fades in and takes control of the party. a warm synth chord then kicks in along with some strings which build up to a peak time climax. nag champa captures a deep and surreal groove with a sweet aromatic feel that definitely is burning. the dark bass line entangles the listener in a sensual moment while a resonant synth riff tops it off. on the flip, midi aura begins with an uncompromising synth bass line that does not quit. the sequence bubbles onward and a thick chord sweeps through the arrangement opening up into a placid apex of harmony. the aura of this midi is feel good all the way. lastly jack box, another acid track that works the cutoff and resonance into a climax of delightful poly rhythm and melody. jericho will be a very limited vinyl press and will be the final project on the ibex music label. keep your ears open for his next label venture which will be introduced this summer.

after several releases on mathematics as contra communem opinionem, cco presents his latest release on the promising new label lux rec. with his impressive ep the secret life of a transistor bassline cco proves us once again his ability to space out and rock hard at the same time. what more do you need? this journey starts off in the sewers of a miserable city on the western hemisphere and takes us higher until we freely float in space. as we move at the speed of light but with no perception of time, we eventually land on planet venus. this is where jack inserts his pleasure plug into the acid machine and sets off a dirty romp. in our quest for the secrets of life, we thereafter push boundaries further and explore even far away galaxies. always bearing in mind the infinity of time and space.

dandy jack teams up with geneva fellows lad and quenum on the a side for what could be described as a tremendous and heavy ride into the catacombs of techno. sonja moonear has a slightly happier and smoother answer on the b side and challenges us with a long and percussive intro that leads into a melancholic twist. quenum and lad arent new to the electronic music and have been active over a decade. they have already been working together for labels like num and thema. sonja is dandys partner in crime as junction sm and ruta5s half head.

one of the best kept secrets of chicago house music is this amazing deep raw track of harmony funk. intense pure house music with raw edges just as we like it! comes with great great remixes by ovatow and marco bernardi. tip

jack this is a typically powerful and funky slice of peak-time techno from tom hades. the main hook comes from a big descending siren that is worked in around the groove and succession of drops and builds.
loco & jam (1605, mb elektronics) are selected for remix duties fresh from winning best new artist at the 2010 irish dance music awards. their mix takes the groove deeper but still retains the incendiary edge.
barnes bachelor rounds off the package with its linear, driving groove and gentle melodic shifts that lift up the darker, brooding undertones of the bassline. a subtle but effective track for the longer sets / early hours.
