b-stock! cover with seam split. vinyl unaffected & mint. them records welcomes back hiroaki iizuka for the its fifth outing. having supplied the the run as the labels first record, here iizuka doubles its play time and track listing length in his stunning voodoo ep. the extra time offered allows iizuka to flex more of his versatile style. them as a label sets out to eschew a techno norm largely made up of a traditional 4 x 4 sound. having come from a london background, the curating of the label gives a nod to the rave sounds of the capital - especially d&b, garage, breakbeat hardcore and grime. that is to say of course along with its characteristic aesthetic of horror and the gothic.
in iizuka them found a common ground: based in hokkaido, japan, iizuka does not share the same london influences, yet shares their base values and thrust. common themes of his sound involve broken and syncopated beats, and a rave energy. this is what lead him to being the first and prime them stable artist. voodoo ep showcases this breadth of iizuka’s style, from tracks that could easily fit into any grime set, such as primitive acid, to the more melodic tones of floating point, in which hiroaki guides them into previously untrodden ground for the imprint.

only vinyl 1! this year sees abba’s the album turn 40, and usm are pleased to announce that we’ll be releasing a selection of products to celebrate the anniversary. abba: the album is the fifth studio album by the swedish pop group abba. it was originally released in scandinavia on 12 december 1977 through polar music and was released in conjunction with abba: the movie, with several of the songs featured in the film. the album contained two uk number-one singles, -take a chance on me- and -the name of the game-, as well as european hits -eagle- and -thank you for the music-. the album includes three songs from abba’s 1977 tour mini-musical the girl with the golden hair. these songs are -thank you for the music-, -i wonder (departure)- and -i’m a marionette-. altogether the album contained just nine songs—the least of any abba album, but were longer in length than previous albums (opening track -eagle- runs to nearly six minutes). abba: the album reached no. 1 in many territories. in the uk it debuted at the top and remained there for seven weeks, ending up as the third biggest selling album of the year (behind the movie soundtrack lps of saturday night fever and grease). in the us it became their highest charting album, where during 1978 abba undertook a big promotional campaign.

this toronto based artist shows he masters the art of creating solid bass drums percussion, groovy baselines, keyboard and string lines that build up into perfect musical architecture that will rock any dance floor in the globe.

ltd repress! dominik eulberg’s second ep on his label apus apus features the track “roter gitterling“ (eng. basket stinkhorn / red cage) on the a side and „tintenfischpilz“ (engl. octopus stinkhorn / devil s fingers) on the flip side. a. roter gitterling the fleshy red cage of this kind of mushroom reminds of a merging of an upside down shopping string bag and an alien. not allowing any objection, the track strides forward with determination towards a musical interpretation of this strange being. a fulminant kick drum counteracts in a very prosaic way the bitter-sweet pads. in a very narrative fashion the track gathers speed and flocks diverse soundscapes and disembogues in a break of harmonical expanse. conciliatory and in a hedonistic way the bass drum eventually stitches together what belongs to each other. b. tintenfischpilz this bizarre looking extraterrestrial mushroom evokes at first glance the image of a dead octopus or radioactive vegetable. as in a science fiction movie four to six tentacles sprout and raise out of a common stinkhorn and later spread into a star shape look. in an unparalleled manner this stunning progression is executed musically by eulberg with a high degree of elaboration. all done with elegant blend of continuous progression and permanent change the track wreathes itself towards heaven, whereas fragmented melody artifacts pour into the shape of a miraculous emergence.

ltd repress! dominik eulberg’s third ep on his label apus apus features the track -abendpfauenauge- (eng. eyed hawkmoth) on the a side and -oleanderschwärmer- (engl. oleander hawkmoth) on the flip side. -abendpfauenauge- brings together a romantic outlook as well as a rave quality through sequential tight knit melodies which enables the dj to play the tune in the club. -oleanderschwärmer- on the contrary is a dreamy and airy 15 minute epic that is a true fascinating listening experience. a. abendpfauenauge the eyed hawkmoth owes its name to the distinctive eye drawing on its hind wings. the bark-colored forewings provide perfect camouflage when resting on tree trunks during the day. in case of a disturbance, it pulls the forewings up jerkily. the moth now gives off the appearance of a face that suddenly stares at the troublemaker. forward and backward swinging movements of the body intensify this threatening effect. b. oleanderschwärmer with its incredible colors, the oleander hawkmoth is a symbol of tropical beauty. it rarely flies into our fields as a migratory butterfly. with a wingspan of up to 13 centimeters, it is a true -jumbo-. it s flying style is similar to that of hummingbirds. it reaches speeds of up to 50 km/h. it’s proboscis, the tubular mouthpart used for feeding on the nectar of flowers, becomes as long as its body.
