and are a duo living in manchester, uk. they have released a split 12 inch with 16 bit on mindset in 2009, the second 12 inch on black sun records that came out recently and a couple of 12 inches on horizontal ground. they sent me various batches of tracks spanning a wide range of sounds, all rooted in techno to my ears but spanning different tempos, emphasis and mood. i selected three of those tracks to appear on this ep, ranging between 130 and 135 bpm. i just woke and its pretty cold outside. i havent opened the window yet, but i somehow know it and im listening to these six tracks again and try to make an approximation of why and how i have done this ep. they are pretty different from each other but tell the same story or at least are part of the same one as a matter of fact. maybe they were done as an excuse for my overdue album which is scheduled again for this year or maybe just because i was going through some odd times and needed to immerse myself in doing something. in this case music. more the latter i guess. ok so, the opening track is in a way the end of an era and the last one the opening of a fresher one. and the rest fills in the gaps in between those two moments i guess. i hate conceptual things anyways. i never know or want to know why i do certain things. concepts define something before it already begins its existence and trying to explain why is pretty useless. so here it is. the recording of a certain period of time in my tiny existence. with collaborations with jaw (dop), my brother atilla, who is also responsible for the artwork, and jonny cruz. by the time its out itll be a distant memory for me but hope it lasts a bit longer for anyone that listens to it

the track space man by ayisha has been produced by munich cult disco producer veit marvos. hes well known for playing organ/synths on many krautrock releases like for example the emergency albums or on 2066 andthen which he produced together with his brother and nowadays is one of the most valuable german psychedelic rock lps.

repress - folk-jazz composer/arranger arthur verocai was born in rio de janeiro. he has created challenging arrangements and compositions for brazilian artists jorge ben, ivan lins, leny andrade and gal costa. in 1972 verocai recorded a self-titled solo lp. it is a stunningly innovative effort. it puts verocai into a rarified field with the heavy string oriented music of charles stepney, david axelrod and frank zappa. released in a period marked by the brazilian military government, the album fared poorly. following its re-issue in 2003 the album has become a highly influential oft sampled classic (see ludacris, mf doom and little brother). the performance of this seminal 1972 record in its entirety brought the capacity luckmann crowd to a stand still. according to verocai, >he had never played the record, alive or dead!< the music has been mixed by verocai himself in rio. history turned on its head and musical justice served.

minor love features 14 brand new tracks from americas number 1 greatest singer!. minor love found green enlisting the talents of rodrigo from little joy and other hanger ons, like his brother joel (and look a likes joe steinbrick and greg from megapuss). the album showcases a tender side of the often arrogant and emotionally unavailable bully / singer, green. in a total state of isolation, green attempted to play nearly all the instruments on the record, due to incurable social phobias which plagued him. apparently the inspiration for this album lies in greens fatalism - you might want to take that with a pinch of salt though!

played by karotte !!! with his newest ep on wagon repair (ghosts in the ai - wag058), mathew jonson looks to both the past and future to create a stunning release. track 1 - ghosts in the ai - is the first solo production that was made in wagon repairs new berlin studios. finally, in a real place to work, and with a lot of new gear to play with, mathew focuses on evoking both the future and technology to wonderful affect. track 2 - technology - comes from mathews past as it was created around the same time as tracks like octagon came out on iiwii. originally, it was going to be the first cut on his debut album that he was planning to release. on the day that mathew was looking for a b-side track for the ghosts in the ai ep, his brother, nathan (hrdvsion), played it over the phone asking him why he had not released it, as it was one of nathans favourites. it worked much better than the other track that was going to be on here so thanks, hrdvsion. track 3 - the alchemist - comes from mathews involvement this summer producing the music score for the old classic silent film faust, which was screened, complete with cobblestone jazz playing the score live, at the 2009 timewarp festival. the alchemist was written for the scene when faust is working in his laboratory then walks out into the snow to summon the devil to help with his work. a fitting piece indeed!

yore returns with yet another deep master piece. javier alvarez, a madrid based producer and proprietor (along with his younger brother dubbyman) of the underground label deep explorer music, brings his relaxed above smoke sound to the yore imprint. in the first of four warm and atmospheric mood pieces, awfully drapes dense synthetic winds over a deliciously grooving, bass prodded deep house pulse. get down does exactly that with five funky minutes of rhodes chords, disco hi hats, and synth swirls, a percolating bass line lends the track a propulsive charge, while crowd voices give the cut a party vibe. on the b sideÆs ôthe fixö javier scatters chopped fragments of the spoken line, i ve got a lot of shit to say and i cant say it all in one day, i cant say it all on one piece of tape, over a funk house groove, after which dubbyman offers variations on the theme in his remix of the track, dubbymans version digs deeper into the cuts bass science and warms the tunes slinky pulse with hand percussion and claps. old school in its embrace of classic house sounds, above smokes ep is tailor made for those who like their material laid back, groove centered, and funky.
