dixie yure is the incarnation of contemporary oldschool house music from seville. after some digital only releases it is about time for some haptic experience. with the 10“ record „show me satisfaction“ on berlin-based label fenou his sound is rotating on turntables for the first time. monotonous minimalism ain’t dixie yures world. the sound tends more towards 2step and builds a homogeneous and pleasant mixture with classical house elements and vocal parts. you just cant deny yourself dancing the >chicken dance< and stepping like hell! thanks to the funky improvisations extending over the whole track you wont get bored even after listening to >show me< for the hundredth time. the a-side is just fun - in the club as well as on your couch. you wont miss the low-pitched vocals on the b-side either as they are typical for the spanish producer. >satisfaction< is a little more reduced than >show me< but is enhanced with jazz elements such as pianos and saxophones. it shows that wind instruments in electronic music dont have to be annoying tribal elements. in this example acoustic instruments do not just get mixed up with house music but merge to one groove – absolutely rocking tune!

steve laviers motivators collective return with their second release on the excellent here and now recordings! following on from the success of the first 12 (which included jobu being licensed to the legendary jazz bizniz compilation series and a remix by reverso 68) these new tracks continue in the vein of raw, live, polyrhythmic grooves. on the a-side, boosters on is a driving energy-packed track with the former manu dibango rhythm section of noel ekwabi and conti bilong being impressively complemented by yam whos des morgan on congas and bongos. keys are provided by afrika mhkinse (who played with the late great miriam makeba) and faze actions multi-talented rob lee. trombone is laid down by tony trombony hayden who has played with numerous acts including quantic soul orchestra. last but by no means least, vocals come courtesy of hannah khemoh who has most recently been touring as backing vocalist for the incomparable grace jones! on the flip, r2 is a laid-back improvised afro-jazz session, with the musicians laying down some serious feel-good sounds. all this produced by rob lee in the faze action studio.

the esteemed mr. nick chacona, he of moodmusic, hector works, and 2020 vision fame, makes his stunning solo debut on wurst. we reckon >slice of life< is the mans finest work to date, the culmination of the past decadeÆs worth of his most excellent musical output. taking in elements from both disco and house, the song fits quite neatly beween the two genres, with its slow burning groove, rich synth textures, and a soaring, ecstatic synth solo to end all synth solos.

numbers follow up the instant sell out that was redinhos bare blips with this red hot collaboration between two of the most exciting producers around just now - roska and untold. collaborations of this sort have a tendency to be a little bit underwhelming but on myth and long range the two producers have dug deep to come up with a perfect marriage of each others styles. this is house music as it should be - fresh, exciting, raw and banging. untolds grimey sub fit perfectly with roskas syncopated drums and the wailing horns on myth are gonna be stuck in your brain for days. one of the most exciting records around at the moment, dont sleep on it.

>burnt chrome< is edwin james aka currogated tunnels first release on district of corruption that he held until the right label came along. edwin was determined to get this 10 minutes techno track onto vinyl without making any exceptions. soon after doc decided to sign track, richie hawtin added it to his favorites and hundreds of plays + comment.
the burnt chrome ep also features a more forward new school rave remix from doc head, aaron hedges, and simon beeston (doc / highgrade). this mix is a redux of the melodic beauty of the original with a more raw and percussive drive.

newcomer ricardo rae with a straight stomper on this hot tango solo debut. >hold on< is a tangy gem of crisp, clean and snapping deep house - loads of thick basslines, key stabs and some jazzy elements working nicely in the mix. on the flip the hot chuck love kills it with his mix - toughening up the percussion a bit, laying down a buzzing bassline and throwing down a tasty breakdown, all with that trademark chuck love funky strut. solid stuff for the youngman, heather and fred everything fans here.

bergerac is the new record label set up by uk producer and dj red rack’em (aka danny berman) to showcase the more dancefloor end of his music productions. danny is well known for his wonky disco outings as hot coins on tirk and also his deep as hell beatdown house on untracked. his style of production and djing have recently taken a slightly more banging angle due to the influence of larger scale festival gigs such as glastonbury, snowbombing and the big chill. so it seemed like the perfect time to start a label focussing on house and techno for the more discerning dancefloor. the label artwork will feature bespoke illustrations from german artist silke eiselt of all the houses danny has lived in chronologically. how much more fucking house can you get than that? how i program is a raw, heads down, whacked out banger, which straddles the wafer thin divide between house and techno with aplomb. with a massive loud donking bass noise, seedy late night atmosphere and danny shouting about how he programs his shit - this is some freaky deaky peak time business. next up is bonn, a warm crackly rhodes driven halcyon house moment, which evokes the slightly majestic and nostalgic vibe of people dancing alone together in a hot room at the end of the night. cheering sourced directly from bonn in 1982 mixes with naive keywork and distant female chants the first bergerac ep closes with it happens to us all, which could be an ode to prematurely greying men, the onset of senility or occasional farting in public places. its definitely a prime slice of wrong house with some seriously french hi hats and dubbed out bassline action though. yes, its more syncopated than an exploding castanet factory but thats how we like that kind of funk

mlms live show now incorporates a full brass section and drummer, accentuating the elements of carnivalesque ska and heightening their collective energy. this, combined with johnnys unique lyrical style, sees the band form a new fuller sound, merging their playful melodies with a powerful back line. young british singer, jessie ware (who has also sung for jack penate), a bright new talent, has also joined them to offer soulful vocals. the >lovestruck< ep reveals a more refined method of writing infectious and original british music. their new approach to composition harbors their recognized style, whilst showing a progression as serious songwriters. for the release of the ep the band has been working with producers such as clive langer (madness) and charlie hugall (florence and the machine).

marco bernardi marks his second outing on the dirty planet imprint with a 4 track ep bursting with emotion and originality. >i feel the lies< has a more laid back approach with deep and trippy grooves and evolving acidy stabs which are complimented with the unassuming and neatly placed vocal of detroit legend and aux88 founder keith tucker, making it one of those truly >special< tracks. second track >giro< (exium remix) is directed more towards the harder techno fans keeping the arrangement simple and the kick big and bold, this excellent remix has seen early support from surgeon with him choosing to feature it on the recently released fabric53 mix cd. flipping the record over sees two tracks exploring different sounds and moods. >msry< builds pace surrounded by an array of atmosphere, hissing percussion and lush detroit sounding synths where as killer track >giro< is a raw, off beat, electro monster laced with acid sequences and dirty bass.
