lord of the isles, a.k.a. neil mcdonald, has spent the better part of a decade steadily producing and releasing beautiful music. the esp institute has always wholeheartedly believed in neil�s work ethic and his journey as an artist who constantly refines his vision, and when we inevitably approached in hopes of working together, we were enamoured by the sheer breadth and depth of work he had in progress�. there are two types of artists. one internalises their process, endlessly perfecting their work while finding the endpoint a massive hurdle, in turn they produce immaculate yet very little art. the other is continuously inspired, so full of ideas they can barely work fast enough to articulate them all. the art becomes by-product of their larger trajectory and not just a collection of endpoints. lord of the isles seems to be both, always in an evolving state of process where the work is constantly shed to make way for the new layer growing beneath, yet he holds his cards closely, cherry picking when and with whom he releases his art into the world. neil is simply prolific. he shared with us a vast catalog of unheard beauty, which over a long span of time was collaboratively shaped into his debut album �in waves�. the title speaks to neil�s process both intimately and from afar, it speaks to the emotional ebb and flow of the music itself, and ultimately it speaks to the listener. ahead of the album�s release, we are proud to share with you the single �weh-in�, a mesmerizing arpeggio melody that opens and closes, purrs and barks, and plays nicely with its percussive accompaniment over more than 10 minutes. this lengthy single version of the track is joined by a dark and stormy, exclusive non-album cut entitled �pik�, as well as a big room rave remix by esp institute resident ian blevins, which take us to a slightly more frantic place while retaining the euphoric essence of the original.

nice price deal !!! it s been a big shock for all of us to hear the sad news that our good friend andreas gehm passed away this year. his last big project is the -worldwide electronics- - series on his own label -cologne underground- which brings his friends from all over the world together. the idea of �worldwide electronics� is to combine music from all over the world on one album (in fact, there will be a vol.2 too). the second idea was to combine well known artist with newcomer. when gehm, who runs cologne underground together with dbh distribution, ask the artist for tracks, he don�t ask for any specific style. the artist were free to deliver whatever they want. so at the end it ended up from deep house (oldschool definition, not edm definition) to acid. �worldwide electronics vol.1� contains one track from greece (dimdj), germany (hardfloor), netherlands (baz reznik), england (perseus traxx), columbia(s.valencia) 2 tracks from japan (takeshi kouzuki and jin-cromanyon) and the first of hopefully a row of collaboration tracks from legowelt (netherlands) and elec pt.1 (germany) as �gehm & wolfers).

mace. appearances are scarce. as his music is. scarce, dirty, brown and miserable, as the bunker guys would say. a mechanical reflection, not a choice of soothing harmonics. not melodious structures. the survival of the fittest, harsh economics, suicidal stock brokers, piling up as much as possible before leaving. these are four things everyone will be talking about today. and so lux rec does. the last piece is a joint venture together with diana berti of veleno viola .

increasingly known for his productions as much as his storied dj sets, eric cloutier approaches the studio with the same kind of precision that marks out his club and festival appearances. on this first release on palinoia he exercises a keen sense of control over playful elements, not least on lead track -heuristic-. the nagging lead synth may hop around the mix, but it stays locked on to a thoroughly focused undercarriage of drums and low end that suits the professional techno set. -ipseity- is lighter in its demeanour thanks to some calming pad tones, but the strong structure of the track remains. the release rounds up with the slower thump of -opprobrium-, surmising cloutier s attitude to the warm-up part of a serious, long-lasting dj set.

it s not all minimal techno in romania, as the p-balans crew ably demonstrate on this second release from local hero the holy fix. the synths come down thick and gloopy on -the void- before -slagwise- ramps up the horror tones with a perfect distillation of what makes a soundtrack pop off. this is nightmarish disco music in the vein of maiovvi and the like, and it s delivered impeccably. there is a greater focus on club tones amongst the atmospheric fx on tracks & traps though, with -quite vicious- in particular conjuring up a thrilling, madcap romp through buffed up disco techno.

it s not often that you get to see alan oldham stepping out under his own name. the legendary detroit artist is more commonly spotted as dj t-1000 (or designing iconic artwork for techno labels) but this time around he s sharing some more house-minded delights for finale sessions. -don t take me- is a haunting, mystical slice of deep house that fits into the finale narrative perfectly, while -wild- too offers up a distinctive approach that manages to be both refined and yet imbued with that detroit roughness. -breathe- may well be the best jam on the record, dealing in subtle threads of melody that conjure up the perfect dubby 4/4 confection.

the second chapter of the various artists serie -obscura europa s.a- is here. synth based -dark band sound- on its maximal exposure. from brazil to belgium, passing by switzerland, poland and australia, this serie presents some of best darkwave hymns uncomprehensively not pressed on vinyl to date. all tracks have been analogically remastered specially for this vinyl version by eric van wonterghem.

mystery, poetry, a play of masks: artistic creation according to john cravache. his collaboration with versatile dates back to the beginning of the millennium. a childhood friend of i:cube, he is 44 years old, lives in a paris suburb, and is not a professional artist. getting involved in writing, he has been boasting his artistic and economic independence and his crafty attitude outside of the industrial system. he gave himself time to invent a personal world, wild and funny, which eventually gave birth to the album -cités nomades-. even though his influences are quite varied and avant-garde (magma, captain beefheart, tom waits), they did not really affect this unclassifiable project. poetry and mystery come before all, because john cravache is appearing masked. john cravache and nicolas chaix (i:cube) have recorded radio creations since the early 90s, in particular for chimère fm in paris, as well as numerous long improvised music sessions. at the approach of the millennium, they embarked on the creation of an album that was not completed until sixteen (!) years later. john is a poet, accomplished pianist, and registered truck driver and nicolas, a self-taught musician, have both made the realisation of -cités nomades- possible. this is not an ironic pop album, this album is simply all you want. listening will do you much good

san francisco-based butane makes his debut on jamie jones hottrax with three hypnotizing productions this october. founder of alphahouse and little helpers, andrew rasse aka butane has been building a solid reputation as a respectable dj, producer and label owner for over a decade now. when not releasing his low-slung dancefloor focused cuts on his own imprints the multifaceted american has made appearances on sci+tec, crosstown rebels and moan. he now appears on hottrax joining a roster spanning waff, patrick topping, mat.joe, bunte bummler, raumakustik, dms12 and jamie himself. a gentle thud initiates addicted, making way for a throbbing synth that warps and distorts throughout the mix whilst a fuzzy bassline operates beneath it. lock and key focuses on intricate percussion whilst dusky atmospherics and a medley of nuances are introduced throughout before shark attack concludes the package with a rumbling low-end and compelling groove.

the fouth and final limited edition delicacies 12inch this year is, in an slightly counter-intuitive twist, not taken from the forthcoming smd album, welcome to sideways. it didn t quite fit in with the flow of the track selection on the album, but we felt it really warranted its own separate release particularly because of the ace matrixxman remix. both versions are driving, minimal techno, scattered through with melodic bursts but matrixxman s lsd rework pushes the bpms and frenetic energy to new levels

it took 2 years to finally release these reworks for the debut album by philogresz. taped wall of sound kinda drift from the cyclist aka buz ludzha complemented by zk bucket s straight on moody jam gives the ep a strained contrast. not to mention peak time euphoric philogresz remake of his own asakusa that is dedicated to the japanese eels in that neighborhood. gazing cutsz!

cadans is not a stranger to darko essers labels as hes seen a solo release on balans in 2013 and most recently put out a collaborative ep with the label boss himself on the tripeo imprint. throughout all four productions cadans deep, bass-heavy background is able to shine through with his extensive use of clever percussions.

the second ep, 1987s greenfingers, was their final recorded work and, according to hayward, its possible to hear the group atomising and preparing to go its separate ways within its grooves. the only this heat or camberwell now recording not to have been produced at brixtons cold storage studios, it was recorded as a diy exercise and � unusually for either of the groups � was not pored over laboriously for a great deal of time. the ep also saw the addition of a new member, maria lamburn, primarily on sax, whose element unknown was inspired by her experiences in the nuclear protest camp at greenham common. camberwell, in south london, pops up infrequently in pop culture. perhaps you know it from the camberwell carrot, the heroically sized joint smoked in cult movie withnail & i, or perhaps � if youre attuned to experimental music � you know of camberwell now. the group formed from the ashes of this heat, the art-noise group whose catalog was reissued on modern classics recordings in early 2016.

one more time we choose two little known gems for re-release on 45 rpm single. another single by the same group is pretty in demand by funk 45 collectors. these two sides are not that much known but they certainly deserve the same attention. while funky you is pretty good, uptempo funk, the b-side is the real beauty of this record. love come down is a fine example of chicago soul which has not been re-released yet. hopefully many people appreciate the work behind this release, from both the original musicians as well as those who are responsible for this high quality re-issue.

the turbo debut from gilmer galibard is a collection of four dark, visceral techno floor-destroyers from a young canary islands-based producer about whom we know relatively little. it also marks the labels first release to feature a swear in the title, offering a foreboding glimpse of the paranoid machine-driven warehouse terror contained within. by now you will have heard the demo in its entirety and are still dancing whether you want to or not. for my purposes, you will use the search engine optimization terms dark, visceral, techno, floor-destroyers and paranoid machine-driven warehouse terror to ensure that it finds its way to the 83 people who need to hear the release through this specific channel. you may tell people i am 26 years old and from the canary islands both facts are true and sound comforting enough but as you now know this does not matter. print this in its entirety and leave the release title unchanged. i would say ive said too much but that is impossible because as youve come to understand all of this has already happened.

this monster 1976 lp from nassau s munnings brothers aka beginning of the end is a stone cold classic. fact. well deserving of a place in any record collection! this, their second lp (with 1971s infamous funky nassau preceding it) features the brothers original, fresh sound a mixture of tough funk rhythms, bahamian soul and flourishes of jazz and rock is an extremely well executed and produced body of work. not surprising considering the band were one of the bahamas foremost musical outfits. the brothers musical backgrounds could not have been any more fitting, they cut their teeth playing regularly alongside the likes of nat king cole and count basie at their fathers well known nightclub the cat and the fiddle, what we get on this lp however is not jazz, but lean, melodic soul music! original copies of this seminal lp can change hands for 100 s on the used/second hand market and is a solid constant at the tops of the wants lists of record aficionados. the lp has been illegally reissued numerous times without any care or attention being taken to retain or respect the quality of the amazing music contained within. not so on this occasion, this is a fully legit, sanctioned reissue done in conjunction and with the assistance of miami s tk disco empire. now is the perfect time to revisit the deep, soulful sounds of the munnings brothers endeavours, a truly sublime collection of songs, drenched in sunshine, masterfully produced and performed with pure vitality. a truly classic album. sounding as fresh as it did almost 40 years ago. jump in the water!

passion for jazz and soul music. reekee, a remarkable young and talented artist from modena (italy) not only plays the keys as an extention of his mind but his true and pure sound makes you feel warm and connected from first notes. a mixture of broken beats with soulful melodies & analog drummin and reminds early mr. fingers tracks. you often get a nu-jazz feeling and can clearly hear the jazz influences between the funky house beats. because it s so difficult to describe the feeling you get listening to his music, you should hear it yourse.

what�s on help008? mainly music from the arhus-boy dj sports. it�s sort of a debut, but sports has released a bunch of tracks on regelbau and help over the past years, solo + with his groups maizena, sportscentral and lester. this young sensible producer initiates the release with the breaky hidden spheres that has a cool piano. next another leftwing original from sports. this one, with it�s flute, breakbeat, confident synth chords and beautiful minor nature is a favourite of mr. sports parents. this one is our favorite, his parents. if we haven�t lost you so far, the flipside contains a timeman dance version with more danceability, hook and playing time than the original version of the bridge that was released on the tape sportscentral. last but not least you get an alternative version of that get-in-touch-with-your-inner-passion/synthesizer-melody-rythmical-ambient-track mindless turns, that also originally appeared on the aforementioned tape. we hope you ll like our new record, that, if on repeat, might provide you hours and hours of by-yourself enjoyment.

opening things up, the sinister title track is a dense, winding affair built around staggered tribal patters and powered along with a brooding reese bassline. he/at�s �set openers� have become something he is known for and this is definitely one of his most dramatic. after that madness, �it�s impossible to describe the smell of a wet dog� strips things right down with subtly chaotic-timed rhythms and synth-work. kind of minimal...but not.
on the flip side, �a drama out of a crisis� is a straight-up new-meets-old techno stomper with early beltram-esq beats and modulated melodies, before the ep closes out with the rawness, �the man who made husbands jealous� is a tough acidic kind of work out with an infectious hook we think you�re going to like.

hard previously unreleased dubplate cuts on side a, i roy vocal & dub on the same rhythm on the b-side! legendary channel 1 dubplate music. this version of -free black man- by earth & stone was scrapped for release in favor of the softer version that eventually appeared on their -kool roots- album, but this heavy cut achieved infamous dubplate status thru play on uk sound systems. in the case of this tune, it seems only dubwise cuts made the rounds, as we ve not heard (or heard of) a full vocal. and like many tunes not pegged for release from back in the day, mixdown masters were never kept, so only dubplates remain to haunt us. here you get two hard dubwise cuts, remastered from dubplate (punters beware!), raw as ever. on the flip side, i roy s vocal, the only released cut on this rhythm, as well as the only released dub, as appeared on the -musical dub attack.-
