this is the first record of the modern house quintet, a french band who makes house music. it features two house-deep house tracks: * bosphore* starts with a piano loop and a deep house bass line which are steadily joined with several other chords, percussions and a jazz guitar. * venise* begins with a bass line and a piano chords which progressively evolve until the break introduces heavy open hit-hats and then, a flute pursues and concludes this deep house trip.

more abstract, forward thinking house music courtesy of transatlantyk. mondo hehe is the fifth ep in a growing catalogue of the label and is one of its most adventurous offerings yet. lutto lento (real name lubomir grzelak) is an experimental musician from warsaw, poland, who specialises in dark, spooky, uneasy music that s hard to categorise. apart from running two experimental cassette only labels (sangoplasmo and dunno recordings), lutto lento records music for contemporary theatre and forward thinking european labels like ftd and where to now? he is equally inspired by avant-garde and surreal sounds from the bygone eras as well as raw house and techno music of today. his music tends to absorb the listener into a parallel, imaginary world, where sounds of a lamenting cry of a trumpet (b2) and a voice counting numbers on top of the rolling exotica style bongos (a2) are as important as jacking chicago house drums (b1) and energetic basslines (a3). from the jumping beats of the title track, to the late night deep roller casino , the * mondo hehe ep* is a superb collection of non-generic house music that sounds as good at a club, as it does at home.

dead fader returns with new ep sun copter, which precedes a forthcoming full length album. *sun copter* introduces a new sound as dead fader s pallet gains new range and depths, using analogue technologies in conjunction with the digital techniques he is well known for. dead fader is the alter ego of john cohen, former brighton resident, now in berlin, who has worked relentlessly since 2007 to realise his vision of electronic music. his tracks are characterised by pioneering sound explorations, which on one hand oscillate between sonic extremities and on the other hand carefully craft cinema-scope sound worlds. the vinyl release includes a downloadcode.

from the tropics comes whiskey disco, a sneaky re-edit label bent on dredging the decanter for diffident dancefloor genius from latent disco perpetrators. it is loosely connected to sleazy mcqueen and his assorted cohorts.
each whiskey disco aims to shed light on forgotten gems of yesteryear. wd42 welcomes two men who need no introduction, kon & jacques renault. both known the world over for their sleek and well-oiled productions and their contributions to the wd catalog are no exception. jacques leads the a-side with disco bass, clattering percussion and sublime vocal crescendo making way for love dance s understated edit of this noodling version of the bill withers classic. kon wraps the b-side with a long and drawn, slightly dubbed and ever-building edit of the album version of promised land.

after making a great impression with its first ep, giant records serves up a second hot helping of house music from boss man grant dell, complete with fresh remixes by scottish techno stalwarts silicone soul. dell, also known as chicago transit authority, has been doing his do for 25 years now. as a dj he is at home in clubs in ibiza and barcelona as well as around the rest of europe, and is someone who always prefers to push his own brand of widely infused and influenced music than his own profile. once again here he comes up trumps with the emotive, glowing house cut ‘in your mind’. with a neat bassline and mid tempo house drums, subtle but effective synth smears add warmth and colour to the groove, whilst soul fuelled vocals add a real sense of personality. this is sure to get people grooving at any hour and comes with grant’s own space echo remix. as the title suggests it’s a more dubby and reverb rich affair with cosmic signifiers and sci-fi vibes pervading from start to finish. silicone soul need little introduction having been at the heart of real deep house and techno for decades on the soma label. their first remix is a darkroom dub - named after their own label - and is a seductively slo-mo and lazily unfolding house cut with languid synths that really suck you in. their lush hypnohouse mix is then a twinkling, late night bit of melodically rich deep house with starry skies twinkling above sombre chords. this is a patiently served but hugely alluring ep that is stuffed with plenty of tender feeling. one again then, both grant and giant have come up with the goods.

dyad is a collaborative music project and label by ben gibson and fundamental interaction. for their third release they deliver two pieces of mesmerizing warehouse techno in *zou* and *fully automated*. to round things off they have assigned irish techno master lee holman, who weighs-in with a devastating remix of *fully automated*.

kike pravda is an artist and producer who has come to release on labels such as warm up recordings, m_rec, psychoskunk, labrynth and many more which have given very good results by the best djs. all this leads him to create his own label in 2012 to continue contributing to the techno scene, his own sound, senoid recordings. senoid enters into the most modern techno without forgetting where the techno came from, betting on vinyl and digital format with the best producers of nowadays.

stix records is a sub-division of favorite recordings, recently launched with a first official single by taggy matcher birdy & nixon (stix033), who pleased us with two reggae-rocksteady renditions of the famous black keys. precisely specialized in the exercise of producing covers with a reggae twist, the new label presents his first album entitled *disco reggae*. many artists faithful to the stable of favorite recordings and its various sub-labels are invited for the occasion: the dynamics, blundetto, grandmagneto, 7 samurai, john milk or taggy matcher. all came and brought their respective touch to this first compilation, with among other things some of the rarest titles from their big single records’ years, but also 4 new and exclusive productions. each of them delivers a great disco-reggae version of classic hits by some artists as diverse as madonna, herbie hancock, justin timberlake, the commodores, the o jays, curtis mayfield, harry nilsson or sugarhill gang. whatever the genre or the period, nothing can resist their inventiveness and creativity, to the point sometimes we confuse between originals and covers. everything is remastered and cut at carvery records (uk), known for their expertise in caribbean and disco music. the vinyl lp comes in a deluxe version, housed in an old-school tip-on jacket.

three tracks here evoking familiar feelings heard before but still somehow they all sound fresh and drag you in wanting for more. as if this wouldn t do it, there is first but, not last appearance for barba label by mighty jtc who needs no further introduction delivering a remix. this time he cleverly uses sparse but recognizable parts of title track which he then transforms into relentless floor shaker where detroit meets chicago, if any such comparison needs to be made. aquatic stuff !

andrea martello and giulio spagnuolo are known in their homeland as producers who are passionate about learning the intricate of house and techno sound. their releases are kept, with a minimum of melodic aspects, but sound definitely good and accurate. luminér doesn t deviate from that principles with their three new tracks for artreform. orbita , calendula (the titles refer us to slavic languages) and pressant’ is a meditative dry deep techno which, however, works well on the dancefloors. support from: adriatique, slam, broxgaard, noah pred, 2000 and one, luciano esse, satoshi fumi, alessio mereu, vince watson, simon garcia samuel l session and many more!

iyewaye, oliver koletzkis first release after the autobiographical i am ok album, introduced a new facet of the artist’s sound. the ep catered to a darker and more raw aesthetic, a direction followed and deepened by the four remixes. first up is the title track iyewaye, turned into a lengthy tech infused introspection by hatzler. loosely centered around the initial vocals, loco & jams makeover explores the tracks captivating snappy narrative. the more rhythm focused ipuza gets a special treatment from hidden empire who dial up the aggression of the percussion. zakari & blange downplay the tracks initial exotic elements, focusing on the rattling synths and giving it a late-night dancefloor rework.

getwet comes back with the second release, after a very well received first 12- who got played in some of the most forward thinking dancefloors in eu, japan and usa. the opener is a majestic track from the caribbean house, side project of billy bogus teamed up with federico bologna, from seminal technogod and ohmega tribe project, and cristiano santini, from legendary italian act disciplinatha. what came out is an outstanding blend of new wave & slow motion disco, strictly for midnight vultures.

the latest untilmyheartstops offers some formidable techno leanings from us-based artist zach lubin, who s music has previously appeared on the likes of kimochi records and axis sub label 6277.

on this new record hailing from aarhus, central delivers a more or less floor friendly collection of works. with his curious and unorthodox approach to dance music, this ep offers 4 very different pieces of music. the opening track fresh context a vivid yet robust house jam is followed by the spontaneous and unpolished gentle vertigo. b side starts off with fell, a moody and eerie spin in experimento land. the final track kessem is a melodic and punchy cut. central delivered releases on nord records and yield earlier this year, revealing respectively a darker techno game and a loose house vibe. to those who arent familiar with help recordings, central s widespread sound offers a premium introduction to the labels output. playful yet serious.

magdalena strikes again on broken mind recordings, this time with her first release on vinyl.inspired on the track agressiva of front 242 and the corrupted political environment of her country, colombia. desobediencia civil starts with a straight intro and evolves into an old school but at the same time fresh sound techno, calling the attention of mister myles sergé, who adds his quote to this ep with an exquisite, elegant and dark remix. and to finish this trip a dark and deep outro. a killer ep from start to end

mindcut presents the next solo ep by no less than kamikaze space programme who had his first label debut with rattle ralf on catalog number 4. ksp also released on the famous luke slater label mote evolver and now he returns with a full 4 tracker on mindcut. his style is well known for rhythmic beats and organic percussions sounds which are reflected in 3 true techno tracks and a stomping myler remix

dutch powerhouse creme organization started a brand new label entitled jericho one. the man behind the first ep is berlin based brit bnjmn, who has released on label like delsin and rush hour and has a strangely melodic, lo-fi sound. opener skur is a hurried techno jam with frosty textures and bleak industrial vibes. it sets the vibe for the total feeling of the ep which is way more floor facing compared to bnjmn s earlier productions. this is a truly out there and wild ep that once again finds bnjmn experimenting on the outer fringes of the techno world in his own unique, distorted way.

finally, leftback s own dudley strangeways rounds off the ep is his usual style, which cannot be described as anything less than true quality. as ever, black key have excelled in delivering a package which ticks all the right boxes, this is a release which will undoubtedly appeal to a diverse range of house music fans who appreciate a rather large nod to the underground. vinyl only.

pp proudly presents another double urge to turn up the volume: the 12th offering on public possession comes from tmo (aka leonid lipelis). lipelis, who is based in moscow and whom we met there first when playing in russia, is a music maniac. this was clear almost instantly and at some point during the night we found ourselves on the couch in his homestudio, where he played us an array of tracks from his various guises and projects. one of the first tracks presented to us was melodic jam

for 07 ruff draft enlists twins who turns in a dark, dystopian, club sound scape that hits all the right spots. hayworth is another alias of a well known producer to us ruff drafters, here he creates a track with an intro that teases and teases you before the beat drops and things get all sweaty. cottam digs out some acid from the hard drive, an old forgotten about track that finally gets a release.

hedonism is an ethical theory that pleasure, in a sense of satisfaction of desires, is the highest good and proper aim of human life, and this seems to also be hdnsm’s ultimate musical objective. their first release debuted as a kickstarter of “variant ep” v.a. series, showcasing three very different yet highly contemplative creations from cumsecade, anestie gomez and man spider. hdnsm flips the coin and for the second episode of “variant” series it lands on two very solid, incredibly moody and extensive works from fresh talents shcaa and cleymoore. the ep features two very different tracks yet they share the same minimalistic core. both works are blessed with intricate micro-drum arrangements for those feeling groove hungry whilst still standing tall in the experimental abstract realm pleasing those who crave unusual frequencies. a-side’s “masquée” is one of shcaa’s typical rides between sound and silence and it is hard to find another artist who understands sound gaps between grooves better than shcaa does. with his signature vocals and an incredibly delicious duality between acoustic instrumentalism and electronic slamming, this is a groovy, highly deep, very intelligently arranged piece. the flip-side “nebula”, signed by pluie/noir’s boss cleymoore, is a tip of an iceberg when it comes to the art of stripping down. in an apparently thin canvas of minimal drum arrangements there’s a vast amount of sound frequencies underneath a steady ever-kicking groove, tricking your mind into thinking that you’re hearing less than you actually perceive. nebula is hypnotic and dense but focused and sophisticatedly groovy. like the repetitive vocals you’ll hear throughout the b-side, this v.a. sticks to your mind like an addiction of some sort and pushes hdnsm to a new standard of avant-garde and forward-thinking attitude. as before, this vinyl only release comes in a gorgeous cover featuring a painting from max binski and the number of copies available is limited

from a basement studio in hackney, east london comes payfone s 2nd release on golf channel - quarantine b/w padre, pray for us. following on from 2014 s extremely well received paradise heater, payfone continue down a similar path for the a side quarantine. featuring once again 24 year old vocal powerhouse louis howard jones, quarantine is a semi auto biographical take on the hardships of a an underprivileged youth, set against a tough phil passera production that sounds more new york city 1984 than new port county 2004 (jones was born and raised in cardiff). cruising at 120 bpm, the dark funk guitar intro gives way to some heavy slap bass and deep synth that touches michael jackson s thriller before the direct and brutal vocals of jones hit you right between the eyes. padre, pray for us is a bizarre afro-cuban inspired homage to passera s italian father sergio ( who s telephone call can be heard on the songs intro). featuring the lethal trumpet of former cuban military private eikel venegas hernandez, this instrumental takes you to the pinata party via downtown lagos. golf channel every time !
