terence fixmer his known in the late 90s , early 2000s as the creator of the tbm, described as techno body music. a mixture of the ebm soundscape with the modernity of techno. his muscle machine album (including tracks lile electrostatic, body pressure) released in 2001 became a reference of the genre. in 2003, musician terence fixmer and legendary singer from cultissism band nitzer ebb, douglas j mccarthy embarked on a project that spearheaded the fusion of techno and ebm. they named it fixmer/mccarthy and they were the precursor to a new breed of techno artists that manage to traverse between an array of scene specific genres without being tied to any. since releasing their first album, >between the devil<, in 2003 terence and douglas have ridden the line between pure techno and the recognizable song structure of classic electronic music and ebm. now, with over 13 years working together for this project and playing around the world, they return to their signature raw sound and delivery. >so many lies< is quintessential and brooding techno, while the instinct mix epitomizes their ability to craft a catchy bubbling baseline whilst all the while dispatching cold steel aggression.

when we started heist a few years back, our idea was to give a stage to talent in a same way as we have had a helping hand by the labels that have supported us from the beginning. therefore, i’s our pleasure to share this release with you by newcomers ouer, a berlin based duo with only a handful of tracks out so far on their self released debut last year. their approach to producing is very much jam based, and with a compact collection of synths, drum machines and a fair level of distortion, they succeed in creating their own sound with hints of classic electronic music from chicago and detroit. theres a nice mix of energy on the whole ep, the ascent being the most driving track of the package. fans of classics mcde tracks will love show off with its dreamy dx7 style chords and cracking acid lines. move over feels like a jam session that was way too much fun with some lovely solo work on the synths, whereas mess around goes down in similar free-ride style on the synths and again, has some lovely sampling going on. an impressive ep were just all too happy to have on our label. sincerely yours, lars & maarten

this vinyl ep is a collaboration between paris label correspondant and germanys gomma records. remixes by los angeles finest psychedelic electronic producer secret circuit (beats in space records) and german shooting star lauer (partner of gerd janson at tuff city kids). why this ep? gomma has a long history with the paris scene. mathias munk modica who runs gomma (and sublabel toy tonics) has been living in france for many years. he worked with many parisian artists from dj chloe (on munks first album aperitivo 2004) to the ed banger crew or black strobe. probably apart of berlin there is no city in the world that saw more gomma events than paris. seems only a project with jennifer cardini missed. so jennifer invited mathias last year to send over tracks. decision was made fast. and so wurlitzer wank and the bösus bounce have come up on correspondant.

fumiya tanaka has been regarded as one of the legendary dj/artists in techno over 20 years. he has been doing numerous projects such as his private label torema records, op.disc (co-running with yoshihiro hanno aka radiq), he run his own label called sundance and his famous party chaos (in tokyo and osaka). and through his long running career, he has been successfully expressing the possibilities of music. the long awaited full length album by fumiya tanaka.

ark & pit spector continue their inspired journey with an extended ep full of groovy jams and absorbing rhythms for hold youth. the frenchmen have formed a potent alliance with a series of expertly-crafted, high-quality releases dropping over the last couple of years. on this new ep they go deeper into their sound explorations with five original works and a remix from their parisian buddy and hold youth member, le loup. first up, we go into bumping jazzy territory with ‘chauffage central’, a mesmerising cut with swirling pads, soulful vocal clips and a jaunty b-line. straight up after that, hold youth rudeboy le loup gives ‘chauffage central’ a funky little rework, throwing live sounding percussion, nubian vocal clips, trumpet parps and a pumping bassline into the mix which gives a totally different identity. the final track on side a, is a cheeky teaser called ‘petite ondée’. rolling out for just under two minutes the track has a muffled, jazz-esque feel to it with a warm rolling bassline and bright, sparkling piano keys. on the flip we kick off with ‘air conditionelle’, a lush, retro feeling with those oh-so-familiar heavy-hitting eighties snare licks. the bassline takes you to a new york city street and the whole atmosphere is that of an old school nyc neighbourhood, while a spoken-word sample adds a human touch just before the track comes to an end. ‘sub tropical’ goes a little leftfield with an unusual combination of sounds in tandem with a pulsating low end, occasional sax licks and punchy percussion to give it plenty of energy. ‘averse et contre tous’ closes out the ep with a slothish ride into the sunset – ark and pit spector show their experimental side presenting an odd union between blues samples, gruff electronic sounds and piano keys. another triumphant effort from ark and pit spector, in fact, some of the finest work to date. make sure you check it out!

“champion music for the heartbroken.” that’s how bryndon cook, who records as starchild, describes crucial, his first ep for ghostly. it’s easy to hear what he means: over the course of the record’s 30 minutes, starchild creates songs that draw equally on electro and r&b, with silky sheets of synth cascading over rubbery bass lines. and at the center of every one of them is an undeniable twinge of sadness.

here comes another release by echologist aka brendon moeller. brendon did several releases over the year and here comes the next bomb!! these tracks were recorded in autumn of 2016 in brendon’s home studio that is conveniently located in the basement of his home in upstate new york. the tracks were made using a combination of hardware and software. the protocol, well, sync all machines via midi and cv and then jam. once a jam seems to take on a form he multitrack record all elements in ableton and then create a final arrangement and mix down.

oliver schories is neither a friend of dogmas nor an antagonist of reflection. he winks affectionately to his musical past with his fourth album, to at the same time bethink himself of his musical core. accordingly profound and day-dreamfully rests relatively definitely in itself, without having any demand to be danceable. schories has allowed to let himself go and to listen into himself. in twelve tracks he tells about his experiences and allows a very deep view. who listens to music with the heart will understand what his ensouled basslines and oceans of melodies are telling. he came down to rest solid as a rock and knows where he belongs to. and apparently he feels relatively well over there. how sweet, that he lets us listen so closely.

lost trax embody the idea of underground techno. the shadowy group, members unknown, began their music careers over 20 years ago. output may be low, but quality is high, the style being no compromise techno brilliance. and thats whats on show here. kick drums and squirming acid bars are at the core of faith, a track where soaring strings shift and reshape. the chiselled claps and barbed bass of flatliner follows, taking its cue from the heyday of detroit. a watery world of analogue abstraction greets the listener on the flip, lost being an atmospheric journey into to the squelching swamps of the tb303. sniping beats introduce the lush tones of renderer. blurring the lines of electro and techno the track is an elegant end to an ep of deep and dense layers.

the boys are gliding back onto the scene with scissor and threads first release of 2016, waiting ground. the handsome twosome of frankie skates and tony b. real deliver us four prime cuts aimed squarely at the dance floor. the vinyl-exclusive, ebreo, sees the duo flex their afro-rhythmic muscle, placing silky smooth bass over a bed of soft swirling percussion highlighted by a pitched down steel drum. next, an edit first heard on frank & tonys acclaimed resident advisor podcast comes to light. deftly cutting the hushed ambient tones of donato whartons absentia into perfect portions, frank & tony loop brittle bits over a chunky kick and shuffling hi-hat to hypnotic effect. the ep’s title track evokes the sun-kissed euphoria of early hour raves with its lush atmospherics and playfully subdued piano line buoyed by a thick kick and airy pads. finally pavane takes the previous tracks laid back attitude and flips it, adding a thick in-your-face kick and propulsive pads for a foot-stomping, hands in the affair dj weapon.

full dose is a brand new label operating from glasgow, and for it’s first 12 inch has hired the inimitable talents of none other that rotterdam’s ian martin, under his akhiezer alias. most of you will know martin from his various albums and 12 inches over the years for some of the underground’s most esteemed labels: bunker / panzerkreuz, further, new york haunted & legowelt’s strange life to name a few. for the foch reflection ep, martin delves into his trunk of electronic curiosities to take us on a trip of ambient textures, dark synth work, creeping rhythms and out-there techno / electro jams that are at once arresting and unique!

bret winans (aka cb-r & cb radio) produces music out of a studio in brooklyn. using a variety of gear that has been amassed over the past decade, hes experimented with house, italo, techno and more. 2014 saw the release of cb-rs inside existence, an ep of dub techno and ambient textures that launched the s/p/a imprint. hes also appeared on the 100% silk 2015 label comp, sunset silk, as cb radio with the more italo leaning pacific ocean blues. with each release were opened up to another side of the producers world. available on full color jacket lp by new york based visual artist and musician jay goitia.

brasilian producer lypovsky debuts with his double tracker on resopal very proper. his nightmare in kongostr. vinyl features two remarkable tracks that capture his many versatile talents from driving house tools to reduced on the point techno. both tracks are full with brooding vibrant pads and spikey synths linger over spacious drum patterns, while live drum fills, and claps bouncing off the bass pulses as wandering keys usher in. played by villalobos.

maeve is the record label run by three close friends, mano le tough, the drifter and baikal. for maeve’s eighth outing it has enlisted the talents of long time friend ed davenport. the record grew from a chance hearing of some new material at eds studio one night and after a brief discussion it was decided that the tracks would find a fitting home at maeve. although recently more known for his harder techno releases under the moniker inland, silver walks is some what a return to eds roots. slower, emotive, more contemplative tracks, recorded over a pretty short period of focused studio time. silver walks is a synth-led jam. the arpeggiator holds pride of place as the centre of the tune with filter tweaks complementing its progression. kuromaku has a tougher attitude - heady and cosmic with a deep kick. it means black curtain in japanese.

south london analogue material is back with the long awaited release from keepsakes. whadyyatalkinbout is a ruthless opener, its aggressive, distorted techno with all the keepsakes trademarks. the remix by bas mooy is a dance floor tool and has been doing the damage over the last few months. on the flip gorbs house is rough down tempo stomper with a naughty acid section and forward strategy group finish off with the b side remix giving the ep nice balance.

bodyjack returns to his bodytrax label with another 3 outstanding bodytrax. is he always like this? is an infectious groove-based techno workout which has been tried and tested by a select few djs over the last few months. kamala’s revenge is a hypnotic tribal roller with darkside vocals, off-kilter rhythms and & tripped out fx. one for the heads down crew. last but not least, the uptempo house jacker disrespect combines a killer bassline and bodyjack’s now signature razor sharp beats ’n’ stabs to round off the ep. oh, and there are 4 locked grooves on the 12- release for the heads. don’t sleep on this one!

it’s difficult to imagine the bunker new york without donato dozzy. the roster of artists who have played the party over the past decade-plus reads like a proper who’s who of modern techno and house, but if there s one artist in particular whose sound and vision has had an outsize impact on the bunker, both as a party and as a record label, it would be donato dozzy.

the next installment on aus music sees the return of a relatively new addition to the roster rob glassett aka fold. throughout previous 12inches on manmakemusic and electric minds and on his outstanding netflix & chill debut for aus last year - fold has laced together dusty house grooves built with a classic approach to sampling funk, disco and soul records. next up - his lennys jam ep starts up with a dub techno groove built with delayed and panned stabs and sharp, pacy drums. rosie lea lays out a rich and sunny groove as a playful sample filters into focus over deftly treated drum kit samples and a buoyant bass line. tracksuits and tennis shoes then follows up with a no-nonsene party jam a short funk link is set over a booming kick that closes up a nicely varied package.

long an unsung hero of the underground, langenberg (a.k.a max heesen) has a string of quality releases to his name, both on his own solo as a part of his ribn moniker with manuel tur. this outing on dessous recordings provides yet another string to his bow shadows is a supremely soulful outing featuring the vocal talents of blakkat. liquid deep and balanced perfectly between euphoric and melancholic, shadow sees mark bell (blakkat) deliver an emotional invocation over a beautifully crafted track, with echoes of the master larry heard clearly present. also included on the vinyl release are two extraordinary remixes, uk legend atjazz providing a sumptuously realized fusion of melody and driving, dance floor urgency. brooklyns house veterans frank & tony (scissor & thread) drop a huge remix of their own to complete the package - serving up their distinctive and timeless nyc deep and raw vibes to complement langenbergs original fully.

oxia returns with a striking 5 track ep including 2 remixes by visionquest’s shaun reeves and 8bits own steffen deux! the bedrock of french quality techno has already created countless classics that proved themselves against the test of time and with unity ep, he’s bound to to it again. the up and down mixes of „unity“ take over with tight drums and rich bass carried by an airy vocal. oxia’s keen ear for detail adds the rest, making them perfect dance weapons for almost any setting. steffen contributes a deeper take on „unity“ working with subtle effects and evolving spheres to create that early morning vibe. „soulsa“ original and remix by shaun are completing the package with laid-back grooves and a fine tool for darker hours. this quality set couldn’t be more versatile, 2016 couldn’t continue any better!

part two of fhloston paradigm (aka king britt) beautiful cosmosis ep series starts with the haunting broken techno of nimoy, bass line and subtle piano gently modulating over scissoring drum machines and dubbed out claps, the switches in rhythm and the layers of chugging drums catching you off beat. the track builds into a heart-tugging melody, the drums breaking up under it s force. return is a pure analogue brain massage of a track, a deep space exploration of undulating arpeggios and shimmering emotive notes. the hour finishes the record, slow building waves of melody and chords, shimmer and swell, the repetition and addition of a mournful bass line consolidate the emotional energy of the track.

italian rudeboy ivan iacobucci brings his brand of lowdown funk-influenced tech house to apollonia with this sterling three-tracker. over two decades of hard work and dedication to his craft has culminated in ivan’s untainted reputation and widespread respect within the underground from true heads like zip and, of course, the apollonia boys. his love of jazz in evident throughout this ep which is full of subtlety and depth, pulsating b-lines and smooth chords are interlaced with razor-sharp percussion and delicate keys. the first track ‘old in on’ has a laid back, though driving, groove, pushing forward with a hefty bassline that is perfectly counterbalanced by the light twinkling keys and barely-there pads. ‘scris frumos’ encapsulates more of an ominous, tribal feeling with intricate effects trickling through every pore of its deep, dark exterior. its atmospherics keep you intrigued, voices echo in the background and a few moments of softened chimes really intensify the already mysterious vibe. ‘mini ass’ channels more of that electro-funk that forms the foundation of ivan’s love for music, haywire radio pulses prance around stuttered beats, giving it a slightly cosmic feel, while pipes add a more organic nuance to the track. absolutely masterful work from ivan, and another inspired addition to the apollonia catalogue.

tim green is back and presents his 3rd release for cocoon recordings. with the two predecessors in mind these three records make a really cool trilogy as all of them are ultra deep, electronic, emotional and (again) perfectly programmed!

killer deep spaced out electro tracks!!! over 20 years ago shad t. scott and his pal seven set up isophlux records, miamis infamous first electronic imprint releasing, as they put techno, electro, funk, experimental, and anything good. now in year 2016, shad under his gosub alias releases this sunday at battle ship key titled ep for barba records, staying true to that initial principle. its far away from just being good though, its beautiful and warm electronic music at its best, oozing chill and feel good moods. original two tracks are accompanied with a remix by second time appearing on barba - jtc aka tadd mullinix who this time nicely surprised us with his ol school ny style house beauty. overall one fine classic record this, period.

with a passion for disco, italo, chicago house and detroit techno patrizio cavaliere aka rocco universal has been collecting music for the last two decades and it’s these musical influences that have shaped his raw, tripped out disco/house production sound. ‘tiny islands’, his debut release for leng, is a real melting pot of rich melodies over a thick baseline and is a clear example of rocco’s passion for the dancefloor. with something as multi layered and deep as the original track it needed ray mang to add his trademark sound to the remix. here he goes straight for the jugular drawing out some of the loops and percussion leaving no mistake as to when this should be dropped on the dancefloor.
