ritornell’s richard eigner & abby lee tee originally teamed up to provide the score for a collaboration with filmmaker andreea sasaran and illustrator katja seifert entitled »melting sphere«. sharing a passion for the combination of filigree electronics with playful timbres of diverse acoustic instruments and odd utensils, the cooperation of the two producers was a logical choice.
»melting sphere« merges subsonic bass, kalimba rhythms, accordion sounds and toy bells, all framed by eavesdropping recordings of abby lee tee’s cat, bathroom squeaks for five minutes of organic downbeat bliss.
»tired dancers« on the flipside offers a melancholy tale of seduction relayed from the shadows, with field recordings of nightly city noise, a reversed music box melody, hypnotic chords and meticulous percussion. delicate, celestial cello (by lukas lauermann) and contrabass flute emerge as counterpoint to this rhythmic hypnosis.
this record is as shimmering as you would expect.

for the opening ep from too many squares, frank butters manages to gene-splice together the raw dna from all of the ugly-beautiful sounds present in the birth of modern dance music. -conditioning for solitude- is the hum of dark tubes, the slice and hiss of sharp synthesised percussion and the scream of blissful dementia. the mutant that existed for a brief and joyous frozen moment while disco was still birthing house. -body burn” is the tropics with a black sun and africanism with a stopwatch instead of a heart. recalling experimentalist forays by the likes of liaisons dangereuses, patrick cowley and karen finley, the 2 originals on offer manage to recall the raw passion of an era without feeling contrived or derivative. the ep is rounded off by sheila fleurraters remix of * 3 minute warning* which continues the pioneer-ist motif, albeit allying itself with a much more early industrial aesthetic.

infrastructure regularly works with up-and-coming artists on cover artwork. respected young swiss artist julian charriere provided the iconic greyscale cover for post scriptum s debut lp (inf-020), and london based photographer guy archard s work featured on campbell irvine s reunion of two bodies maxi-ep (inf-018). now the celebrated british fine-artist robert ncnally has been invited to submit original artwork for facticity. selected by jake and dinos chapman to show work at the prestigious flowers gallery in london, and commissioned by damien hurst to provide work for his private collection, robert s incredibly detailed large scale pencil drawings are attracting serious interest in the modern art world. mcnally s cover image was selected from a series of works based on adapted antique post cards. its anti-establishment, censorship-related overtones are clear to see, as is the stark use of contrast - thick layers obscure the fading original, re-appropriating it. setting the tone for this carefully compiled collection of new music, rich in subtexts and sub-genres, a special edition print of the cover artwork will be included in the first 500 copies of facticity.

great debut release and new label from a rubadub shop regular featuring tracks from shop regulars. tip. this first release is made up of 3 tracks from my friends and 1 from myself. there’s no concept here other than putting out music that was otherwise not going to see the light of day. the first track is by bleaker who put out a 12inch on unknown to the unknown last year, the second by miz aka big miz whos been putting out music on dixon avenue basement jams, the third by the burrell connection who has a release on west end communications and a track on a craig knows released compilation and the last track is from myself which got a play on big mizs boiler room set. these tracks were all sent to me around the same time and it felt right to make a place for them on a record. bleaker, miz and the burrell connection have all been making waves in scotland and beyond and these 3 tracks are proof that the attention is warranted. and i dont think my track is too bad either.

the third release in this series opens up with fanon flowers remix of be good to me on the a-side, and has everything we love about fanons signature sound, an industrial rave-stomper that provides a heavy 909 beat topped with mercilessly propelling chicago-style claps. the b-side kicks off with henning baers remix of visco space saves the world a super trippy and minimal interpretation of the much more heavy original, which was a raw and gloomy industrial monster with a bold noize overload. its progression changes build up neatly but peak in an epic spiral break down that shatters the soul. b2 is a remastered version of herz aus stahl by the mastermind christian morgenstern himself, presenting an upfront, sinister electrofunk monster that attacks with waves of synth menace straight from its metallic robocop-heart.

nycs legendary sam records dropped the mysteriously named k.i.d.s dont stop- in 1981. it has it all trancey arpeggios, vocoders & vocals trading off with each other, brass & some heavyweight disco drums that helped propel it forth into the hallowed category of club classic. the record perfectly suited the open minds and open ears of discerning disc jocks in locales such as new york and chicago where this sublime piece of electronic disco sleaze would get plenty burn on the city s infamous wbmx thus having a huge impact, along with a whole host of other similar records, on the burgeoning house scene that was germinating in the fertile mid western soil. b-side cut do it again is a pleasant enough early 80 s disco jam, but compared to the futuristic burner that is dont stop on the other side theres one clear winner. a must have for all cosmic, disco, funk aficionados. now made available again, legitimately licensed, remastered and reissued in conjunction with sam records new york city.

april showers bring may flowers, but this april claude vonstroke brings you the rain break. inspired by two different songs from the 80s - (razes classic break for love and oran juice jones the rain), claude has replayed and re-sung all the music from scratch to make a special cover tune of both tracks changed and combined into a surefire dirtybird classic. to quote vonstroke, i kept singing the break for love bassline over and over again in my head but the vocal that always popped in over the top was from the oran juice jones. i cant explain why that happened but i just thought they went together so well that i ran with it.here comes the b is a much weirder affair. built with massive psychedelic effects, a huge kick and almost no hi-hat pattern, this is late night cavemen music at its best. this big release from cvs will have you wishing for a downpour so you can go walking in the rain.

when we signed bosq s tumbala featuring puerto rican legend tempo alomar on vocals last year we knew that it was a multi-cultural masterpiece. we also knew that giving it a boost for the club could take it to a whole other stratosphere. so we enlisted another one of our favorite multi culti producers, auntie flo to take it for a spin, and boy did he turn out a club jam!

they say you have your whole life to make your first album, years upon years of growth, learning and experience filtered into one perfect record. your debut is supposed to be the one you labour over, while the follow-up is meant to be served up within spitting distance of the last. well, not if you’re london based wild palms. “we did that in reverse,” explains the band’s sardonic, quick-witted frontman lou hill. “the first album was just the songs that we would play live, we wrote it really quickly. but this one took ages...” five years in fact.
recorded by the band in the same self-built manor house studio where they made their 2011 de-but ‘until spring’, the new album ‘live together, eat each other’ is a lusciously layered offering of hazy experimentalism and off-kilter alt-pop, that follows in the auspicious lineage of beach house, cocteau twins and tv on the radio.

the fruit bands fleeting existence was only recently revealed by the discovery of a few unsold copies of their sole 1978 single,say it, which quickly became a cult showpiece for savvy djs and collectors. athens of the north has since reached out to cypress studios of jacksonville, florida and discovered a complete album of the groups stylish, dancefloor-smashing funk and deep disco on tape, unreleased for over 30 years. vinyl is presented in a handmade cardboard tip-on sleeve as would have been used at the time as only the best will do.

according to white material pair galcher lustwerk and alvin aronson, their first collaborative album under the studio ost alias contains a mix of breezy electro, aquatic dub, high speed jit, and shimmering atmospherics. while clearly tongue-in-cheek, it s a fairly accurate description. certainly, there s a fluidity, moodiness and palpable sense of atmosphere at the heart of scenes, which casually drifts between hard-edged club workouts, hazy post-club fare and dreamy, horizontal experiments. it was apparently recorded over a three-year period, during jam sessions at various new york studios. its the spontaneous aspect of its creation that has the biggest effect, and makes the whole thing feel like fleeting snapshots of moments in time.

shaw cuts is happy to present its third release, which includes 4 tracks produced by farron under the title ‘death duel’. the story of this chapter is simple: the third master is respected as the unrivalled and undefeated swordmaster of the day. his strength and skill saw many opponents who sought to slay him and win his title. all failed. there was only one rival who might sever his crown. it is only a matter of time until the ultimate duel… ‘we don’t make no sense’ rings in combat with a dirty break-beat drum pattern combined with deep, melancholic pads, circling the scene before one of the masters makes the first attack. warmer in tone, ‘tangency’ is the first intermission, a lull in bloodshed and impending annihilation. short-lived… the b-side brings back battle mode with ‘centro’, a rough and rolling thunder with churning synth action and distorted drums. the duel ends with ’par 2’, its sharp percussions, goliath bass drum and spheric pads reverberate victory. an open breast and sword glazed red. fatal hemorrhage…

originally released on the mighty y records in 1982, this one-off single by disconnection was a mutant disco cover version of a song from rodgers and hammersteins 1949 musical, south pacific which was made into a blockbuster film in 1958.

monoton ‘monotonprodukt 02’, also known as mp02, is the debut album of austrian electronic maverick konrad becker. out in 1980 it was a precursor of the minimal techno dub sound that was starting to be popular more than 15 years after. the album has been reissued by desire a couple of years ago and a new pressing is in the work. anyway it’s time to launch a remix ep with new (and not so new) producers giving crédit to the work of the austrian master. on the a side we find 3 new artists paying their dues : sergie rezza, whose debut album out on desire was critically acclaimed, abdulla rashim (abdulla rashim records / northern electronics / semantica) and also opal tapes’ boss stephen bishop own basic house. the b-side is a great megamix of the album tracks by the one and only ambient/electronica veteran scanner !

originally released in a limited edition of 500 copies in 1982 monoton’s second album ‘monotonprodukt 07’ is now a collector item and also one of the most important album of all-time. it has been voted one of the 100 best records by highly influential uk magazine the wire. monoton was founded in 1979 by hypermedia wizard konrad becker as an art project that underwent various transformations and collaborations in its exploration of psycho-active sound. a pioneer in experimental electronic music, becker continued to break new ground in electronic media. monotonprodukt 07 has been reissued on vinyl by desire (and is still available as a double picture-discs limited to 500 copies. it’s the first time ever that tracks from the album are remixed and desire is proud to had such great artists/producers as us prositutes, svengalighost with fellow partner and l.i.e.s. boss and hospital productions artist ron morelli. the last remix is the work of great mancunian duo rainer veil (modern love). an incredible remix package that do justice to this classic album ! mastered by matt colton at alchemy.
