korpus 9 records kicks off with a brand new ep from dubspeeka, featuring four tracks of high impact and atmospheric techno. korpus 9 records is a brand new techno label from russia managed by kwazalski. the main aim of the label is to release fresh and innovative material, not only digitally, but also on vinyl. all the imagery and influences of the label come from an abandoned research station that is deep underwater, where unusual events are happening around it on a constant basis. charged with the first release is shadowy bristolian producer dubspeeka, who has put out his music on drumcode, senso sounds and get physical, runs skeleton recordings and has a fierce techno sound. the opener here is garrison, a driving number with heavy drums and a warm but edgy mood. garrison 2 is more spaced out, with celestial pads baring a feeling of suspense above the firmly rooted drums. garrison 3 then has lumpy drums that bob up and down, as acid lines, water sounds and metallic hits all add atmosphere to the cavernous groove. last of all, garrison 4 is an eerie dub techno track with real drive but also plenty of thoughtful emotions. it closes out a brilliant first ep on this exciting new label.

phonica records welcomes spanish producer extraordinaire pional to it’s main label with the ‘xme / one night stand’ 12”. pional is miguel barros and the madrid based musician has been producing for over a decade. with a string of well received solo releases on hivern discs, permanent vacation, young turks and counter, remixing the likes of the xx, chairlift, the rapture, prins thomas and john talabot (who he also co-wrote the incredible ‘fin’ album ender ‘so will be now...’ with) as well as djing around the world, pional has been keeping very busy indeed. for his phonica release he has produced two versions of two very special tracks. on the a-side, ‘xme’ is a melancholic and uplifting electronic excursion with delicate flourishes of it’s synthesised melody becoming a real ear-worm throughout its six and a half minutes. the slower and more foreboding ‘quiet ceremony’ reinterpretation takes the same melody in a darker direction. on the other side, ‘one night stand’ is a bumping, stripped back and moody club track with ghostly vocals floating above metallic pads rising to a release of energy and emotion. the ‘slow drumapella’ lowers the tempo and alters the feel of the track, reducing its elements to a bare-bones drum track with the vocal, fx and pads eventually coming to the fore.

this time we present another story that has nothing to do with the main plot of the label, although it s somehow connected to it. let s say it harkens back to the very origins of the storyline. the white man delivers an obscure and introspective trip that was revealed to him after several months of obsessive and repeated nightmares. this strange phenomenon abruptly occurred when he found out about the existence of the starry wisdom and started to further investigate the fishy events that surrounded the sacrilegious worship.

lybes dimem is a project by visual artist and musician lukas rehm. with elaborate beat structures and the use of error, the music plays with cognitive phenomena and abstraction while maintaining an emotional refuge. lybes dimem is presented in formats ranging from spatial sound experiences to synesthetic shows complementing the auditive layers with visualizations of realtime data, computer graphics and moving image. lukas rehms installative art, and compositions have been internationally presented and awarded with multiple emerging arts prices. syncleft chronem is the first album released by lybes dimem in both digital and vinyl for-mat and accompanied by a moving image artwork. the title reflects the projects interest in the potential of difference, cognitive frictions and exertion: sync variability in the processing of auditive and visual signals, syncleft the synaptic cleft, which is a crucial empty spa- ce in biological neural networks, chronem the chroneme as a theoretical unit to measure the time of an articulated sound. mathematically clean sounds juxtapose patterns and transitions familiar from the realm of organic acoustics. multi-layered noise textures ex- plore the simulated space. a tem- porary continuity is provided by percussive and melodic elements, right until the next escalation, eventually awaiting a concluding resolution. the visual language explores different phenomena and techniques of cognition inspired by the rhetorics of big science (computer graphics, discontinuity of material, pop cultural references).

san francisco in the late 1960. the hotbed of psychedelic and rock culture. the dead, joplin, jefferson airplane and a host of others all gaining mainstream acceptance for their acid tinged work. but the city and the surrounding bay area had so much more going for them. a liberal political outlook and a large african american and latino population, meant that musical and cultural reference points were wider and more easily assimilated there than (almost) anywhere else in the united states. two of the biggest groups to emerge from this scene were santana and sly and the family stone, with their melting pots of sound that took in jazz, soul, rock and latin influence. for a while they were two of the biggest acts in the united states and scores of local bands tried to follow in their footsteps. they were hard acts to follow and very few got to the stage of making a 45, never mind a whole lp. one of the best to do just that were leon’s creation, whose debut lp “this is the beginning” acid jazz are reissuing here. a native of san francisco leon patillo led the group, whose multi racial line-up echoed that of his heroes on the local scene. self contained and gigging locally they made their debut album at the tiny studio 10 who also custom pressed the album in extremely limited numbers the music is a perfect blend of acid soul, mixed with hippie sentiments that will get you dancing on the uptempo numbers such as the title track, ‘back roads’ – with its glorious harmonies and the soaring ‘power’. more thoughtful numbers such as ‘until you were gone’ or ‘love’ will touch your soul. so impressed was carlos santana that he eventually asked leon to join his band.

hobor is part of many groups and formations himself, such as songs for pneumonia or cointel allstars and the event-series fiktion+masse. his solo project is mainly known for extended dj-sets on various ambient-floors in leipzig and his live-sets - which could be described as cautious investigations into micro-sounds - are mainly based on his work with modular synthesizers. his debut-album on ph17 is a minimalistic, conceptual work that focuses on sound as much as on the way electronic music usually plays. all tracks consist of almost independent layers of sound that behave like improvising musicians. they seem to play together but by focusing on one of them you soon realise they’re actually stoically sticking to there own rhythm and repetition and as the tracks play on these layers of sound start to form ever different constellations. no wonder hobor says he took inspiration from improvising bands like the necks. his album is as fascinating and hypnotizing as one of their live-jams. “constellations is released on 50 limited tapes.

xan is a moscow-based producer originally from the town of votkinsk – the birthplace of pyotr tchaikovsky. xan then moved to st. petersburg, and eventually to moscow where he became part of the johns’ kingdom community. there, he began solidify himself as an established electronic music producer and dj. his dedication allowed him to fuse new influences with his own musical background as well as single-handedly organise a unique underground festival in hometown votkinsk. later he becomes a resident of the main diy club in moscow, rabitza, and a frequent guest at other notable events such as arma17, boiler room or nts.

the latest release on guy gerber’s successful label rumors is a remix ep of the dying seconds’ song ‘mora minn’. guy gerber himself turns in a dub remix, whilst acid mondays and elie nissan & jenia tarsol’s tales feature on the b side. guy’s remix see the acclaimed dj and producer turning the starting point into a wholly new and original sounding release. the dub mix puts guy’s outstanding production into the spotlight. subtle yet intricate, guy’s take on the record pulls together echoing piano chords, a delicate guitar line and emotive, building strings over a gently propulsive bassline. it’ll be familiar to those who have frequented guy’s famous rumors events series this season, with guy’s road testing of the release prompting many fans to ask what this new, distinctively gerber-stamped track could be. meanwhile, rumors label and events mainstays acid mondays take the track into deeper and darker territory, with a faster paced beat and sub-bass flourishes offsetting trippy vocal samples. two fellow tel aviv talents, eli nissan and jenia tarsol, round off the ep with a rework that matches more of the original’s drums, vocals ethereal piano line with amplified percussion and a dancefloor ready bassline. the ep drops towards middle of a busy season for the label and events series, rumors ibiza has become one of the busiest and most talked about daytime events on the island, with international parties in the likes of la, mykonos, sardinia and, most notably, a london street party selling out within hours. to accommodate his ever-expanding fanbase, guy will be playing a landmark headline show at london’s historic roundhouse on the day after this release.

nice price deal !!! devnik (bart) is an electronic music from the netherlands. devnik started producing in the late summer of 2008, just as a joke. as time passed, the music got better and better. first being into electro fidgety beats and getting signed on the english electro label live-in music, he eventually found out about a thing called dubstep. dubstep now is his main goal, already being signed to dubline audio and having played along the likes of funtcase, cookie monsta, borgore, unitz, subscape, crissy criss, koan sound, ganja white night, sinister souls, osiris, vyron, switched sources and more, devnik is ready to destroy the dancefloor.

with spring well and truly in the air and party season in step, mosaic records boss steve o sullivan launches mosaic s 38th release - joining forces with fellow londoner frazer campbell for a new studio collaboration. not content with letting the dust settle from his recent work alongside ricardo villalobos, o sullivan has stayed a little closer to his london home to work with frazer campbell for this latest tag team effort. a dextrous hand in the mix and producer in his own right, campbell has a passion for all things that sit on the deeper end of the house, techno and electronica spectrum. in his own words, thought emoting music is central to his mission having launched open recordings and elliot project records last year: a worthy sparring partner indeed. since the start of the year, the pair had their heads down focusing on finding a happy medium between deeply swung grooves and the airy influences of detroit - shaking out an interesting trio of tracks for their label debut. far from treading the obvious path, the main event a1 hypnotonic revels in a lighter touch as metronomic beat programming cycles endlessly to a held set of notes. off-kilter bass pulses, warped out vocals and effect splashes all intersect to keep the energy input constant as they capture one of those less frenzied moments where the very notion of time seems to hold still. make no mistake, this is a slow burn vibe. head to the flipside b1 soultonic to plunge yourself straight into hip twitching mode when the lights go down. a deep chord, syncopated hats and deftly tweaked synths echo as a full dose of shuffle inflicts its move. simple yet so effective, this track will not let you down. winding things back up a touch, the tougher edge of alleyway funk pushes the feeling on thanks to a thumping kick and a deft nod towards uk garage. met with a soft glisten of a rhodes piano and tweakish melody, the pair round things off in a boyant mood - fans of soul capsule and schatrax will no doubt agree. repeat play of this ep is recommended as its all the more rewarding for it.

3n0 is a new record label launched by yay recordings, with the main purpose of promoting new and emerging artists. the first release is credited to gianluca casnici as a young talent that is part of the stable of dj yay events. -ethereal ep- is composed of 4 solid tracks ranging in electro and techno with deep and refined melodies with a clear reference to the sounds of detroit.

gidge is a production duo consisting of jonatan nilsson and ludvig stolterman. based in the northern parts of sweden, gidge quickly built a solid fan base with releases of their albums autumn bells, lnlnn and lulin. the music of gidge seems to affect their audience in an emotional way, which eventually resulted in the duo taking the top spot as best new artist at xlr8rs readers poll, as well as having the 3lps ending up on numerous end of year lists. their main source of inspiration is the vast, snow-covered woodlands of the north. gidge have for instance recorded all of their percussions in the forest, using only the sticks and rocks that can be found there. for seoul though came about after the duo went on a trip through asia, and spent a number of days in the south korean capital. they fell in love with seoul, and later on created this two-part hymn for the giant city. applescal created a remix for the track, which you can listen on the b side.

former half of the defunct pitch & hold duo under the banner of which he operated from 2006 to 2011, simon halsberghe steps up on brussels’ very own vlek with his debut solo ep as simon hold. first heard on vlek s 2016 mix for resident advisor as they were appointed label of the month by the high­ranking platform last autumn, maqam bruxelloise reflects the wide­angle beauty and compelling diversity of the belgian capital and its throbbing heart, a city at the confluence of cultures and languages. across a finely­layered interplay of synthetic modulations and intricate polyrhythms, hold lays out a riveting kaleidoscope of pattern­welded textures and prismatic synth motifs played and arranged accordingly to a contemporary interpretation of the traditional arabic maqam system of improvisation the track draws its title from. an ode to brussels all­embracing effervescence. translating as -soft drone- or -pleasant noise-, the gritty dhajij doux then welcomes you into a more disquieting, bipolar audio scenario that evokes the reality of living -in a sometimes difficult and hostile city-. a curiously matching negative of the opener, in this that it taps into the same generous and plural matrix universe as main source of inspiration, but eventually opens on a more nuanced outcome, here hold clearly shows a further abrasive facet of his work: harsh and vibrant, the track may be replete with a lead­heavy amalgam of sizzling bass and jagged drumwork thrown into the furnace, light and hope still manage threading their way through dark clouds and turbulence, slowly but surely turning this rough­hewn stone into a truly haunting gem.

this amazing ep from dubsons has an amazing analog sound with a mixture of tracks. we have a bouncey groovey track, a driving housey track and an underground minimal dark room track. all these tracks have had amazing support from the likes of rhadoo, petre inspirescu, nu zau and lots more. this ep has been in the pipeline for some time and is still doing the rounds at various events and festivals with the big boys. burghez has an irie, creepy feel which would go down well at any after hours or main time set and is our personal favourite here at trapped ldn.

dub is the keyword, techno is the way. the very first autarchy release represents a rapidly and constantly changing momentum. there is a black and white atmosphere that surrounds the whole vinyl four-tracker. the skilled italian duo alpi make their mark on the a side, together with the wrong assessment darker reinterpretation, shaped around solid textural processing and raw rhytmatics. it s mainly a techno release, yet xdb delivers his own breakbeatish and more reflective vision of the b side, produced by label artists complementary opposites. the label is at the moment under the radar, working through a connection operating into events, music production and label management in between italy and germany.

its an all us line-up as we welcome back to strictly the soulgasm main man brian coxx along with new production partner morsy for feel it, their stomping-piano tribute to classic house. new jersey man coxx is behind the memorable soulgasm sessions volumes 1 & 2 released on strictly at the end of the zeros/beginning of the tens, and hes currently celebrating ten years of throwing the infamous soulgasm sessions parties around new york city. bronx resident morsy has notched up a brace of releases with nervous and, as part of the developing coxx & morsy partnership, a trio of tracks on kenny summit s good for you imprint. formerly part of the itinerant nyc dj crew crooked disco, he s played festivals like coachella opening for the likes of moby and steve aoki and lately travelled to gigs in europe along with a neat sideline playing cruise ship events. you can find him playing his weekly residency mr purple on the rooftop of the hotel indigo on manhattan s lower east side.

obbatuké are an 8-piece rumba group from santiago de cuba, lead by renowned quinto player carlos guerra. the band are mainstays at the casa del caribe, widely regarded as the epicentre for the eastern rumba scene.
rumba is a percussive-led genre descended from africa which was formed when mixed with spanish influences in the ports of havana and matanzas.
as innovators in the genre, obbatuké have been a huge inspiration to the manana project, and were involved in collaborations at this year’s event with plaid, quantic, nicolas jaar and london based breakthrough act, ariwo. this particular session was recorded at castlesound studios in edinburgh on the band’s first trip outside of cuba. it features three different sub-genres of rumba and an extended yoruba bata piece called orun seco.

rhythm büro is a new record label based out of kiev, ukraine started by dj and promoter igor glushko. the büro first began as a local party series organised by igor, alexander pavlenko (aka na nich, widely known in the drum’n’bass world as sunchase) and vera logdanidi (aka vero). since the party’s beginning in march 2015, rhythm büro has hosted such greats as zadig, abdulla rashim, etapp kyle, eric cloutier, woo york, artefakt, acronym, steve bicknell and actress all at different non-club warehouse-like locations around kiev. a peculiar aspect of the rhythm büro team’s objective has been to maintain secrecy about the exact location of the party until a day prior to the event, when ticket buyers are then informed about the location via text message or email. the label was started to be the logical and progressive extension to what rhythm büro has established itself to be locally: one of ukraine’s prominent techno initiatives. for the first release of the label, na nich and vero have contributed two joint-produced tracks that are to become their first publicly available material under their current aliases. while a1 leans itself to the soundscape that is more or less typical for rhythm büro parties: trippy, hypnotic and transportive techno, a2 hits the floor with refreshing zeal, bringing an electro-esque break-beat under deep and emotive synth layers. the b side contains two remixes of the title track, one of which is thoroughly tailored by the dutch-born-berlin-based-duo, artefakt (mostly known for their releases on delsin, prologue and field) as well as a strong and heady remix by semantica records’ mastermind, svreca.

following two radical reinterpretations earlier this summer from truncate and yaleesa hall, which earned plays from roman flügel, laurent garnier and ben sims to dusky and huxley, kameras ventoux ep is further expanded with two remixes that tastefully expand the producers original vision of uncompromising body music. festival and club favourite george fitzgerald is on hand first, delivering a blistering remix of cosignia, one of his personal favourite club records in recent times. here, fitzgerald continues his masterful streak of production, knowingly blending the somewhat menacing machine throb of the original with a suspenseful bassline, eventually culminating in a heavenly, ethereal breakdown, one thats certain to leave bigger rooms in throes. meanwhile, throwing snows remix of title track ventoux deconstructs the bright, idm inspired anthem into something equally frenetic yet utterly different. punchy live drums begin to escalate over a deeply satisfying electronic snarl, recalling throwing snows noted fascination with post-rock, while maintaining the tempo with naturally evolving elements of industrial and ebm

paradise garage anthem “let’s do it” by convertion with remixes by krystal klear to be released on original sam records label. 12” vinyl released on september 9, 2016 let’s do it by convertion was originally released in 1981 on sam records, and featured production by greg carmichael and vocals by leroy burgess. upon release this song immediately went into heavy rotation for larry levan at the paradise garage and for frankie crocker, then the number one rated disco jockey on new york city’s number 1 ranked radio station wbls. over the years it has become a staple of classic disco playlists worldwide. now remixed as a peak hour tune for today’s dancefloor, this 12” release includes two mixes produced by dec lennon p/k/a/ krystal klear. a dublin native and red bull music academy alumni, klear has made a steady rise to become one of the freshest new faces in music that both has the chops to destroy underground dance floors with his deep crate of records or spin out polished productions in the studio with legends like nile rodgers. klear’s musical accolades can be conveyed through his singles “tried for your love” that was championed by bbc r1 dj benji b for 13 weeks in a row, and “addiction” which has helped solidify main stage at top tier events such as sonar, fabric, space ibiza, and the famed panorama bar.

during the last three years a new name has been making waves at ostgut ton and berghain: berlin born, raised and based producer kobosil made his debut with a remix of barker & baumeckers silo (ostgut ton, 2013), completely unknown at the time, he has quickly earned his stripes as a dj on the clubs main floor, eventually becoming a resident at berghain. following up on five subsequent 12 releases and kobosils first live sets, his debut album sees him covering yet new ground in the form of a full length release.

after 3 years of hosting and co-hosting several successful events the guys at vbx decided to expand their musical horizon in the form of a vinyl only label. none other then vbx mainstay ferro is responsible for the kickoff ep. >time will tell< perfectly showcases the various facets of ferro s musical persona. the a-side track >time< is the most introspective and hypnotic on this ep. the background atmospherics swell and fall, while the rhythm steadily chugs forward, slowly making you lose your sense of time. the growling sounds and heavy kicks that form the backbone of >mushin< make this track the most straightforward club banger of the bunch, while still maintaining an edge through the intricate sampling of armand van helden s >the funk phenomenon<. ferro rounds up the ep with >opening the seven<, nagging vocal snips serve as a melodic hook while distorted rhythmical elements give the track its typical ferro sense of swing.

released for the first time on vinyl is max richter’s emotive and minimal score to damon lindelof’s tv series about a post-apocalyptic global event where 2% of the world’s population disappears without explanation. richter’s approach explores the feelings of the protagonist’s family, the garveys, through intimate, small scale music. he tackles this psychological landscape by bringing a ritual quality to the score, while themes of departure and loss are represented by a sense of sonic decay, relying on the instrumentation of a few sustained tones on pianos, harps and celesta. max richter is a classically trained composer that defies boundaries. trained at the royal academy of music and finishing his studies under the tutelage of avant-garde composer luciano berio in florence, richter’s career has followed many paths. his musical output ranges from ballets (wayne macgregor’s infra), reinventions of classical works (vivaldi’s four seasons), collaborations with the future sound of london, roni size and vashti bunyan to writing scores for film and tv (waltz with bashir, lost and found, last days on mars) and solo work (memoryhouse, the blue notebooks, 24 postcards in full colour).

after a successful debut release with untitled gear, croatian label continues their journey through fields and forests. still exploring the russian federation, only this time they hired udacha s honcho and main protagonist a5. record kicks off with fantasy. a dreamy kalimba piece which eventually evolves into a deep house track and could be described as a soundtrack from your latest dream while raw abstractionism doesnt disappoint its name. on the flip side we are introduced to the afro banger torri wowo which feels almost like driving through safari on a truck. acoustic cut calms things down and brings us to an end with a clear message.

following their ongoing relationship with soma records, ukrainian duo woo york are set to release their new record that proves to be somewhat representative of recent dramatic events in their country. entitled i am against, both the main track and the ep itself are referring to the developments that lead to revolutionary struggle of the ukrainian people. fighting inequality, saying what you have to say and doing what you have to do seem to be the core ideas of the record. you might have figured that out yourself by spotting a rebel protester from january’s clash with riot police depicted on the record sleeve. the ep also features a special remix from uk techno producer, Ø phase. music-wise the ep presents the same idea: the epic energy of the title track highlights the drive that was fuelling peaceful individuals to go out onto the streets and fight for their rights. an excellent remix from Ø phase follows a similar path, although in its own original way that has made the uk-based artist’s name associated with the finest techno to date. closing the ep ‘in the end’ is a more abstract side of woo york’s music works that reminds us once again: every single act of violence is bound to come to an end at some point.

through ten-year-experience, crime records is now coming to life in the salento area (italy). mainly based on electronic and techno music, crime records is an indipendent, eco-friendly and strictly old-school label.
