mathias schaffhauser, founder of german label ware records debuts on third ear with a 3 track 12inch. this is big-sky, expansive, driving techno even the beatless version of grad minus 12. mathias schaffhaeusers ware records had a very recognisable sound. it was one of the defining labels of the cologne sound, most associated with kompakt these days. but in the 90s and early 00s, ware was as significant a label, especially for djs. this release is very much a good example of that sound, still sounding fresh and bristling with good energy.

brothers harvey and ryan mckay return to drumcode with their dynamic alias project. we were introduced to alias last year when the mckay brothers dropped the impact-heavy visions ep mid-way through 2017. the duo followed with a lauded contribution for drumcode live and the buzz from fans was palpable. the follow up sees the pair in powerhouse form. the title track nrg is an attitude-packed tour de force compromised of aggressive snares, warped vocals and a tension-filled break, it has been smashed by adam beyer for the last six months. orange sunshine pulls no punches as it dishes out apocalyptic acid paired with the siblings startling drum work. the event rounds out the ep and is an exhilarating affair propelled by uplifting synth lines and a buzzing energetic bassline.

forgoing traditional melody and song-writing, eskers distinctive sound focuses on the interplay between noise, texture and rhythm. voitax is happy to present her stunning debut ep, which was assembled from various recording sessions over the past two years. formerly a drummer and guitarist in various bands in melbournes noise scene, the influence of her past is evident in this record - a combination of processed guitar, mangled samples and bizarre, ghostly synthesis form a deep and complex sonic space. the effect of almost a decade in berlin is just as clearly heard in the eps thumping techno pulse. wielded with a drummers feel for timing and meter, phasing rhythms, crunching lo-fi percussion and thundering kicks provide a solid backbone. having become absorbed in techno culture, this is her contribution.

dan stielow mortazavi has an outer edged family background and a long testament in music starting in his teens with his first recorded project the product that was self released to cassette back in 1983. three decades later it saw a vinyl release on the dark entries label. the debut spite cathedral lp is made with his long-time musical partner karsten svendsen (to feed on others, hinsidan, ate23) and is released with a free bonus 7” on bodies on july 2nd. ultra minimalism streaming from the darkest of places still with a presence of a cold, cold love. with sparse elements they create dramatic scenery. industrial beats backed with something that sounds like hostage jazz and rock drummers fused with the loneliest of themes, epic at times and oh so broken at others. touching topics of man’s inhumanity, paranoid misinterpretations, the fragility of the mind, sex and broken homes without mouthing a single word.

next up on donato dozzy and neels spazio disponibile label is close friend and italian producer marco shuttle. the eerie label-boss is a regular on the label having put out his systema album here last year, as well as his flauto synthetico ep in 2016. his always meticulously crafted sound is rooted in dark, cavernous techno. he finds plenty of new ground in each new release, though, with some tracks being haunting ambient works and others more propulsive rhythms. this new ep features just that across four typically inventive and absorbing tracks that are as much for your head as they are for your heel.

released in solidarity with tigas anti-tech house crusade, a silent campaign fought everyday on the streets of your hometown, blaze finds russian crypto-whiz dimitri veimar still dancing with the rawer-than-the-rawest-dog electro thats brought him to the dizzying heights of the mid-tier crags of mt. turbo mountain. throwing his weight behind what some in the media are probably already calling tigas war was absolutely necessary following the events of a recent gig in moscow. veimar opened the night by playing no fewer than three tiga tracks, which anyone whos read tigas taboos can tell you is definitely a tiga taboo. deeply immersed in the practice of pouring his own mineral water, tiga ignored the hootin and hollerin of the vips crowding the dj booth (including dennis miller and diego maradona), and proceeded to play a set entirely comprised of recordings of every embarrassing thing veimar had ever said in his life. four hours later, an emotionally-shot veimar collapsed into tigas arms, with the magnanimous label boss whispering, i forgive you, dimitri into his ear. the release also features a broken techno remix from mysterious european producer florian kupfer, who made us sign a non-disclosure-agreement dictating that we can only describe him as mysterious, enigmatic, and/or european, so well have to let the music do the talking.

when harold boue aka abstraxion invited fantastic man into his studio after playing together the night before he didnt knew he was planting the seed for a new project. as he recalls, it was a day of intense sun in marseille with not enough sleep, but the result was so great that it inspired harold to work on new tracks around the idea of creating music to reflect his city: a bit rough, but luminous and influenced by elements of mediterranean, african and northern european cultures. this has translated into a heavily percussive sound, in which tribal disco grooves invoke the spirits of voodoo-techno. three cuts driven by warmly distorted rhythms, bursts of primitive drums, rubbery synths and uplifting chants that overall feel like the first sunrays after an excursion through a dark cave: both blinding and blissful. the projects name is a tribute to the astrological sign of harolds son, who was born at the same time as the music on the ep. it was the definitive signal he needed to convince himself it was the right time to start something new and different. and an event that for sure helps understanding the vibes that this music transmits: as pure, fresh and powerful as only a new beginning can be.

for its third release, here to hell welcomes melbourne (via adelaide) veteran, rambl, and his incredible groover “doss”. this third release on the label happened purely by surprise, and what a discovery! the track itself is no accident, but the signing took place after a chance encounter. richard campbell aka rambl, who is one of melbourne’s best and most consistent djs since the last two decades, had developed a small cult following of viewers via facebook, where he had been providing live video coverage of australia’s wild weather in a kind of comedy-weatherman format. once these updates caught our attention, the magical facebook algorithm placed all of his content at the top of our feed.

for the first release, antares label presents: “sunrise under the eyes ep”, produced by dubfound (moldova), known for its subtle and refined productions. with this new album, he offers his best vision from after-club. in side a we start with “sunrise under the eyes”, it carries a very delicate feeling, accompanied by a french voice. regarding side b, we find the remix by dani casarano, which takes you on a galactic journey, with soft sounds and analogical influences. dubfound in turn closes side b with “cruisin”, with an elastic groove, with subtle sounds, perfecting a very elegant and classy set.

when dorian paic, tobi neuman and patrick ense took a lunch break from their studio session they met house legend eric d. clark randomly at the burger joint. after a quick chat they took him over to tobi’s studio and recorded this delicious 12&#8243, for us. einzelkind founded la peña in 2007 as a label for friends to meet up, live, and release the music they love – and here we have the perfect example of such a serendipitous event.
