anyone who has followed the dj sets of adam beyer or dutch ally bart skils, would be familiar with the stirring vocal and thundering impact of your mind . while the track begun as a tool, the reactions when tested out were so momentous they decided to turn it into a full track. together they teamed up to add more percussion, snares and a rolling acid line to complete its transformation. the result? one of 2018 s most powerful techno weapons highlighting time warp, awakenings and ultra music festival, to name just a few.

with the summer season well and truly in full step, mosaic returns with two finely tuned cuts of classic dubbed-out minimalism. a side in the night is a typically understated affair from label boss steve o sullivan under his wise caucasian alias. propelled by a bass-heavy tone and lit by layers of percussion that build on each other you ll find yourself getting lost in the washes of sparse vocals, rhythmic stabs and splashes of delay that reach out over the dance floor. far from providing instant gratification, this requires timely and repeated play to uncover the layers of subtle finesse and craftsmanship: perfect for keeping those feet moving at any hour of the night, or day for that matter. on the b side, steve teams up once again with fellow londoner, frazer campbell on rise which goes straight for the full smile effect as the duo conjure up one of those rare pieces of magic. set to a melee of skippy percussion, high-pitched toms and warmly toned melody, the prophetic voice of maya angelou and her timeless poem still i rise resonates supreme, bringing a touch of thoughtful intelligence thats all too often forgotten. as the track hits it peak, you cant help but feel the deep elation a groove like this brings in the darkest of hours.

new raw moments release. already going down as timeless. after prior collaborative releases with fellow rawmoments resident paolo rocco, pijynman presents his first ever solo ep featuring a rare remix from the frenchmen hugo lx. the sophisticated deep a-side has a soul-infused inspiration, while the b-sides forward-thinking philosophy is complemented by a journey taking arrangement. this collectible vinyl marks the labels forth release.
part 3 of 5 to be released over the coming couple of months. originally released on the phono label in 1995/96 the ‘parts’ series from matthew herbert are a much loved collection of house tracks that sound just as original and bold today as they did when they were first released. this series of 12”s were part of an early wave of exploratory dance music that paved the way for the deep house that still works its magic on dance-floors in 2018 some 25 years later. the mix of herbert’s playfulness alongside expertly grooving production and unusual sounds makes this unique collection of work. the odd few tracks aside this is the first time that these releases have ever been repressed. all newly remastered for this reissue series, the releases include stone cold club classics such as ‘deeper’, ‘take me back’, ‘resident’, ‘people that make the music’ and ‘see you on monday’.

external assessment vs. self-conception by robag wruhme: people always think, im that serene and quiet guy, but actually i’m quite a noisemaker. could be that the majority of the material he put out in recent years, most notably the thora vukk album, led to the overall apprehension of robag being the virtuoso of everything subtle, enigmatic and tenderly melodic. well, thats far from being a misconception, but still just one side of the coin. the other side is embossed with his most current productions, consolidated to a double ep, captioned with the enchanting name wuzzelbud ff. wait a second wuzzelbud devoted fans will instantly prick up their ears. we’ve heard that before. back in 2004 robag wruhme released his first longplayer named wuzzelbud kk. as theres no such scenario robag might be running out of stream-of-consciousness turned nonsense titles for his music, this must be a vocabulary intersection linking the early days of his career with its status quo. and it is. wruhme presents wuzzelbud ff as the stylistic follow-up to his debut album, showcasing a sound he commits has been neglected for too long. wruhme cuts to the chase: i wanted to put out some straightforward music for the dancefloor, something for the primetime. well, for the primetime of my sets, at least.
afterlife recordings continues its focus on emerging talent with the first solo ep of aether, following his collaboration with mind against on -solaris- and a track on the realm of consciousness compilation. from the textured atmospherics, harmonies and innovative sound design, it’s clear aether has found his voice already. balanced between the powerful, emotive techno afterlife is known for and more introspective experimentation, the three tracks share a tonal richness and patient headspace, lending themselves to the dreamy hours on the dancefloor.
dominik eulberg’s third ep on his label apus apus features the track -abendpfauenauge- (eng. eyed hawkmoth) on the a side and -oleanderschwärmer- (engl. oleander hawkmoth) on the flip side. -abendpfauenauge- brings together a romantic outlook as well as a rave quality through sequential tight knit melodies which enables the dj to play the tune in the club. -oleanderschwärmer- on the contrary is a dreamy and airy 15 minute epic that is a true fascinating listening experience. a. abendpfauenauge the eyed hawkmoth owes its name to the distinctive eye drawing on its hind wings. the bark-colored forewings provide perfect camouflage when resting on tree trunks during the day. in case of a disturbance, it pulls the forewings up jerkily. the moth now gives off the appearance of a face that suddenly stares at the troublemaker. forward and backward swinging movements of the body intensify this threatening effect. b. oleanderschwärmer with its incredible colors, the oleander hawkmoth is a symbol of tropical beauty. it rarely flies into our fields as a migratory butterfly. with a wingspan of up to 13 centimeters, it is a true -jumbo-. it s flying style is similar to that of hummingbirds. it reaches speeds of up to 50 km/h. it’s proboscis, the tubular mouthpart used for feeding on the nectar of flowers, becomes as long as its body.
berlin-based american kevin mchugh aka ambivalent is definitely no stranger to the scene. with r u ok on richie hawtins minus label he landed one of clublands absolute hits of 2007 which can still be found lurking in discerning dj’s record cases today. since 2015 he has been providing high quality tracks on his delft label, and he celebrated his cocoon debut two years ago with the daylights ep. together with dutch clone-producer martijn hoogendijk aka alden tyrell, ambivalent has cooked up another serving of straightforward techno complete with rigorous hi-hats, which will no doubt summon up the uncompromising energy of his berghain sets wherever its played. with its powerful incantation of sequential rave signals, wallfall recalls the best days of jeff mills in the form of ultra-modern detroit-oriented premium techno, while detente lays disconcerting industrial distortion over expansive dubtechno for maximum acceleration. the perfect fix for hot nights of celebration.
dynamic dj and producer kölsch is set to release hal, his brand-new collaborative effort with canadian techno heavyweight tiga, on new label ipso. well known for his genre-defining cuts, danish producer kölsch has sold millions of records all over the world under his many different monikers, including seminal lp ‘1977’ and his widely acclaimed albums ‘1983’ & ‘1983’ & ‘1989’, with the latter including kölschs biggest track ‘grey’. a purveyor of deep and minimalist techno, tiga released his 3-track ‘stay cool’ ep earlier this year, with the game changing producer receiving a wealth of support from bbc radio 1 tastemaker pete tong on his last album, the 11-track ‘no fantasy required’ on counter records. made up of thunderous a-side ‘hal’ and a double b-side - containing the cosmic chord patterns of ‘first blood’ and the sinister build of grumbling ‘still so high’ - kölsch and tiga will also perform together b2b at offsonar this summer, with kölsch also scheduled to play a primetime headline set at belgian mega-festival, tomorrowland. “about a year ago i launched my label ipso”, said kölsch. “this summer ipso 002 is coming up, and it s a collab with none other than tiga. we spent a couple of great days in my copenhagen studio, and came up with 3 tracks i m really proud of. since the first release, i also started my ipso night in the legendary gewölbe club in cologne. i’ve had amazing nights there over the last 2 years and now it s time to expand.” having started his ipso residency in cologne, playing a mammoth 9 hour sets, kölsch has since expanded the brand to miami and watergate berlin, with further destinations in the pipeline. labelled as ‘the king of house” by annie mac, who added that kölsch, the ipso boss has garnered a reputation as one of dance music’s most talented producers, playing several ibiza dates over the summer, including ants, hï,,,,,, ibiza’s ‘in the dark’ and circoloco. follow kompakt
it doesn t get much bigger than this: adam beyer links up with green velvet and drumcode s outstanding rising star layton giordani for a debut collaboration. some musical partnerships feel fated. both fans of one another s work, for years adam beyer and green velvet had discussed writing music together. in turn, beyer s protégé layton giordani had admired the chicagoan s work for as long as he could remember. when the 25-year-old found himself playing alongside the green mohawked legend at belfast s shine, the spark and subsequent friendship was immediate. with the links now set in place, it was only a matter of time before the trio s creative chemistry would manifest musically. ‘space date was conceived organically and birthed quickly. propelled by green velvet s trademark vocal hypnotism, the triumvirate combine to craft a pumping intergalactic slice of techno laced in melody that s highlighted sets by beyer at awakenings, ushuaia and also edc vegas when green velvet dropped it to a raucous response. the track is complimented by rome future , the product of a year-long series of productions between beyer and giordani. deftly combining crisp drum work, catchy vocal effects and a powerful bassline melody that gives the track an almighty kick, it will be familiar to many who ve followed their sets over recent months.
limited repress! vienna based meat recordings is back on vinyl with another compilation showcasing the labels diverse approach towards techno music. the four-tracker features tunes by gerald vdh, specific objects, matt mor & chris klein as well as bort, which range from boomy big room techno to old school acid bangers.
highly revered techno dj/producer ilario alicante has unveiled his brand new luce ep, consisting of four fresh tracks on cocoon recordings. recognised as a dj of the highest order whilst playing at berghain when he was still only 21, ilario continues to go from strength to strength. an integral member of the respected cocoon family, ilario alicante has become a regular at cocoon ibiza, elrow and dc10 during his career so far. made up of the titled track luce, a cosmic production packed with synth-laced flutters, and the more dancefloor-ready scelta ilario showcases his eclectic nature across the release. using a high tempo through the shudders of cocoon, the italian rounds off the ep with the deeply atmospheric sensa with the latters rattles adding an intense nature to the production.
brazil-born, barcelona-based dj and producer anna has garnered international accolades from mixmag, bbc radio 1 and others with recent releases on the likes of diynamic and turbo recordings. but her skill set reaches far beyond the studio realm as 2017 marked her busiest year to date. beyond a whirlwind of festival appearances (including movement and awakenings), anna had the opportunity to perform at iconic clubs such as dc-10 and fabric.
in many ways, it s difficult to believe wehbba only dropped his first full-length ep on drumcode this year. released in february, the four-tracker eclipse was a monster statement piece of the brazilians talents and followed on superbly from fake, his contribution to last year s a-sides vol.6 inarguably one of the biggest tracks on the compilation. with the confirmation that wehbba will take part in drumcode s off week party in barcelona, followed by the brand s takeover of resistance in ibiza, its indisputable proof that his crisp, chord-driven take on techno has become a vital component to the expansive palette of sound adam beyer has drawn for the label in 2018 and beyond. catarse marks the rapid-fire follow-up from the prolific producer. opening with the eerie she lost control, wehbba says he took inspiration from the joy division track of almost the same name (‘she s lost control ), but instead of crafting the dense sonic atmosphere with vocals, he employs an analogue kick drum and stealth-like moog bass with dramatic results. process follows, a cut which begun as a cover jam of laurent garnier s crispy bacon and ends up incorporating the cut-up vocals of legendary minimal composer steve reich, who is one of wehbba s chief inspirators. the resulting track is an ice-cool percussive work that s rich in dancefloor functionalism. the title track will be familiar to many who follow drumcode radio, a goose-bump inducing highlight of beyers dcr392 at awakenings in eindhoven, catarse is driven by a memorable melodic riff resplendent in 90s techno euphoria. the ep concludes with the terrific mind awake, a powerful concoction of reverb heavy basslines and glitchy effects, that s been thoroughly road tested by both beyer and wehbba and kicks like a rodeo bull.
bucharest duo vinyl speed adjust return to visionquest. four tracks of the crystal structure/vsa bossmens signatur grooves, back & forth builds on the introspective motion and reputation of their previous visionquest eps retro and carpe diem: off & on is a tight weave of heavy atmospheres and swelling basslines, blue notes takes us up a gear thanks to a bassline that bumps with authority and a maze of rhythmic layers. deeper again we hit two more mystic moments: noek is deep, direct and driving while late shuffle flips the coin for a smouldering farewell. like all vinyl speed adjust eps it leaves you wanting more.
on the third release on his label, malin genie teams up with amsterdam resident and will & ink regular yaleesa hall for a trip into dubbed out techno and house territory. the ep opens with -oganesson,- an immersive track pivoting around gnarled, shape-shifting dub techno chords. -84- is a more energised cut, using a similar central melodic thread but driving it with a sprightly beat and playful threads of synth expression. -tournant- places the emphasis on textural sound design, embellishing a rugged techno rhythm with sonic matter that takes on an organic quality as it pulses and writhes around the beat. -coronal loop- finishes the ep off with an appropriately star-gazing jam that uses delay and reverb to great effect to create a sense of space in which nimble chord lines and other flourishes can cavort freely.
heisenberg presents the limited black series. featuring tracks from the romanian mastermind guy from downstairs, label-head saktu, moscows groove master lost.act and stan yaroslavsky the modular genius from tel-aviv. as usual its vinyl only, no digital promos or shares.
part 2 of 5 to be released over the coming couple of months. originally released on the phono label in 1995/96 the ‘parts’ series from matthew herbert are a much loved collection of house tracks that sound just as original and bold today as they did when they were first released. this series of 12”s were part of an early wave of exploratory dance music that paved the way for the deep house that still works its magic on dance-floors in 2018 some 25 years later. the mix of herbert’s playfulness alongside expertly grooving production and unusual sounds makes this unique collection of work. the odd few tracks aside this is the first time that these releases have ever been repressed. all newly remastered for this reissue series, the releases include stone cold club classics such as ‘deeper’, ‘take me back’, ‘resident’, ‘people that make the music’ and ‘see you on monday’.

rawax welcomes mennie to the family! we re very happy to present you finally this 3 tracker as the -virgo ep- is on high rotation in our office since weeks. now it s time to share this beauty with you!
it goes without saying that space has always been central to techno – both in terms of its cosmic and futuristic trajectory, as well as in the spatial dimensions of sonic elements. etapp kyle’s first full ostgut ton ep release sees the ukrainian-born, berlin- based berghain resident emphasizing the connection between the two, while avoiding techno’s overt intergalactic clichés. by partially linking to his continuum ep (unterton, 2016), the results are four tracks of pristine, sci-fi minimalism, propelled by ambient synths and percussive explosions in distant skies – more utopian than dystopian. opener “alpha” establishes the cosmic theme from the get go, with chord swells and a whirring, phasing spacewind panning across the stereo image. while a subdued kickdrum gets things started, it’s the rhythmic interplay between dynamic high-hats and halled-out rimshots that guide the track through space. from there, “quantum” on a2 strips the voyage down to a glowing, unwavering arpeggiated synth line, interspersed with twisted, high-pitched bells and updated 909- esque snare patters.
sebastiens music feels like it was born in the heart of all day i dream. rocket to lees little cloud reminds us why its so much fun to dance with your hips. and while having fun that lead to equally silly track titles. satellite. elegant, classy house music with a nod to the past on a journey into the future (that, one day, will also be the past...what?) underwater. a grandiose trip to the moon and back. any the wiser? no, us neither. why not just press play and fall in love.
ellum black, the new sub-label of maceo plexs notorious imprint, focuses on the dark and intellectual side of techno. this second record instalment features spanish producer architectural. following an ep on the main branch of the label in 2017, juan rico aka architectural delivers 3 forward thinking cuts for this record. architectural is known for his detailed and magnetic productions and on ‘a girl with no friends ep’ he goes deeper into the hypnotic edge of his soundscape. the first track we hear ‘romanticism movement’ creates a statement for the vocabulary of sounds rico used for this record such as low frequencies and deep grooves. the title track follows on the b-side with develops on these textures. closing the trio ’never yours, boy’ finishes the ep with another variation of architectural’s romantic techno repertoire.
i am really proud to present this 3-tracker by victor ruiz on noir music. i think he is one of the best and most flawless techno producers right now and together we have carefully picked three tracks which perfectly showcases his production skills. i often write how i’ve worked with the artists on my labels to make their tracks reach their best potential. with victor i feel everything has been served to me on a silver platter as his productions are already perfectly crafted. although victor changed details right up until last minute, some of thesetracks also dates back 2 years, so he has had plenty of time to make everything sit and sound right. after a nine month break from releasing originals i feel truely honored that victor has chosen noir music as the label for this venture. both victor and i feel these three tracks compliment each other and at the same time showcase his skills to make great, diverse music. check the entire release. the music will speak for itself.
!! repress !! the second album on ilian tape comes again out of munich city. skee mask doesnt spend a day without making music and the dedication, attention to detail and architectural approach really make this album an absolute trip to listen to. its the sound of a peaceful and energetic place. its smoky and cosy. its where skee mask spends most of his time. he lives for the music and we are really happy that this freak became a core member of the ilian tape family. this album is made for true lovers and hustlers. turn it up loud!
on the new materia music instalment, label boss marco bailey returns with this year’s heavy-hitter “acid dragon” and the brilliantly story-telling remix of parisian wonder-duo kas:st on his “viserion”. materia artists yotam avni and deepbass jump also on this high-powered various artists compilation bringing their deep but yet driving “no guilt” and “parallel to the horizon” respectively. hands down, a package that you shouldn’t keep away from your demanding and hungry-for-techno crowd.
london-based producer, visual artist and nts radio host kit grill has announced a new 5-track ep, titled westway. the ep will be available digitally along with a limited run of 200 vinyl copies designed by alex sullivan, with cover photography by grill and an accompanying video by london director laurie lynch. westway draws on grill’s personal experiences of living in a cityscape and echoes the industrial, fast-paced and repetitive rhythm of his home city, london. the ep was recorded over the course of several months from early 2015 to february of this year, the propulsive beats and driving, shimmering synthwork across tracks like ‘distance’ and ‘street runner’ inspired by and echoing the brutalist beauty of the capital, culminating in the euphoric, widescreen string flourishes of closing track ‘stairway’.

roza terenzi is the latest convert to the kalahari oyster cult, the australian producer debuts with four tracks showcasing her unique sound. influences come from far and wide, shifting between electro, house, techno and even early rave anthems. the space bleeps of -gigi- are soon interrupted by shouldering kick drums. samples stagger and stumble before key stabs cut through beats in this hazy piece of early morning elation. -mwah- maintains those euphoric moods. snapping snares slice through shimmering synthwork and soaring strings to keep the night grooving. darker tones enter with -rare high-, but these shades are soon brightened by arcing notes. acid lines squeak and squirm in this balancing act of disparate colours and chords. distant lands and exotic encounters are conjured for -soft-, perfumed percussion and meandering melodies mingle and merge for head swimming close of aromatic audio.
747’s paleo is an essential acid collection of eight diverse tracks, with a vinyl-exclusive d side. aquaregia’s first long playing release weaves through the different faces of acid on a time travelling trip through geological history. the journey begins with warm pads enveloping lush landscapes fringing the shallow, prehistoric seas where swarms of trilobites frenetically scurry, seeking to survive and evolve. roiling subaquatic vulcanism rules the b side, a seeding ground for exotic crystals whose hexagonal points vie for space as the magma cools and the minerals speciate. we’re then taken further into the depths, where planispiral ammonoids swim in the pseudo-antigravity of the saline seas. and finally, closing out the excursion, we’re transported from ages past, through the fleeting present into the future, to a warming ocean with disrupted ecosystems and unpredictable currents, the effect of a morphing climate.

prologue: wearied by our endless travelling under a burning sun, we stopped by the margins of a tiny stream, embraced by a timid vegetation. the scorching heat made our throat parched and weak: yearning to quench our thirst, we immersed ourselves into the waters without any hesitation, drowning our dryness and our exhausted limbs.
i pointed my face, revived by water, towards the sky and i lingered on, admiring it: a flock of birds gently floated, drawing in the sky some abstract shapes. i sat beneath a palm tree, motionlessly admiring the show, the shades of the night approaching.
