you know when the dj drops something so special you’re mentally forced to ask for the track and the reply you get is ”its my own unreleased track”. that’s how i (art alfie) stumbled upon all three of these. about ten years ago i witnessed van rivers & the subliminal kid (peder mannerfelt) turn berghain upside-down with the dark techno epos ”mars attacks”. around the same time i had the luck to see nils westerlund boogle minds with the broken beat psychedelics of ”suspiria” at a stockholm open air. last but not least, a couple of years ago i heard ”thicker than blood” for the first time, like the sirens in greek mythology, it lured people on to the dance floor at stockholms classic summer hot spot f12. i’ve been playing these tracks ever since and im beyond happy i get to share them with the world at this point. //art alfie

plug in and dream? lullabies for robots continues the run of fine eps on verdant recordings exploring the melodic, deeper side of techno. this release a split shared by vancouver s esb known for his meandering soulful analogue jams. verdant recordings has been lucky to sign two exquisite tracks. subliminal wave is r2d2 getting off to an acid groove whilst phayse distance holds a more relaxed droid after party vibe. on the other side mihail p is back for verdant after his debut appearance on emerald city. memory upgrades features warm bumping percussion underneath a joyful hook. memory upgrades is a masterful piece of delicate electronica with references back to warps seminal artificial intelligence series. another beautifully presented ep on heavy vinyl and printed sleeve with artwork by sophie o leary: perhaps the best cover of the series to date?

b2 is where it all started with van rivers >wood sequence< track given the remix treatment by dvs1 and still maintaining its original deep and dubby vibe with its mesmerising synth stabs and space chord echo fx, job well done!

incredilbe package with remixes by schatrax, kink, todd sines as .xtrak, kink and the subliminal kid. the result of schatrax take is a typically beautiful and deep reworking. todds remix of dodaso is typically fucked up and funky in true .xtrak style. kinks version of the gauntlet remains quite faithful to the original whilst also instilling it with his own trippy and unique style. last year peder mannerfelt, aka the subliminal kid, sent me a track which became the only track released on off-key through a demo submission. blackwood freestyle has mutated under the hands by the subliminal kid into a rolling dub inflected groover.

last years breakspoll best single winners far too loud take their audio toolbox and set about dismantling the vocal monster innocent from the album. featuring the distinctive vocals of yolanda and some ungodly sonic trickery, bass action and arrangement tweakery this mix is really quite special.

loose records is proud to announce a new series of six eps that will be released over summer 2014, culminating in a double disc cd compilation chock full of musical goodness. the italian label was established in 2005 by rino cerrone and mario manganelli and is related to the respected events crew of the same name. in that time the label has been showcasing new talents alongside more established names, and that s the same case on this bristling new compilation.
