raoul k is known for blending the sounds of real westafrican instruments and modern electronic clubsounds into one mesmerizing soundscape. this time, he takes a new approach: the original mix is produced without the use of any electronic instrument. just pure african sounds, chopped and melted together into one groovy slice of contemporary clubmusic. this is the first release in a series celebrating the tenth year of baobab music… which will lead to a new raoul k album. electronics aren’t completely left out. the blending, however, was left to the remixers this time: irfan adds a good measure of energy in his mix, setting up some analog synths with raoul’s beats. watch out for the break… kaito delivers a very dreamy remix which seems to lose its kickdrum but does not lose its groove. dance into the sunrise. choose vinyl, please

slow town records has really picked up the pace this year, delivering essential 12- singles from riccio and qx-i, amongst others. here, they round of 2014 with an ep of positively edible deep house from fouk man hans peeman. in typical peeman fashion, there s plenty of soul to the liquid beats and rich chords of -prologue-, while -monologue- is an attractive saunter through classic detroit deep house with the restless energy of a chicago production. mr k-s remixes the title track, delivering a heavily percussive version that sounds like a plea to head towards the dancefloor, pronto. a touch darker and altogether heavier, it offers an excellent alternative to peeman s eyes-wide-shut original.

david k represents something thats all too rare in electronic music today: an artist who makes music first and club music second. for him, emotion is paramount, melody is important, the pop format has its perks and original material is always better than a sample. late at night and early in the morning he dances alone in his studio, tapping away on his keyboards and throwing together arrangements on the fly (a pianist by training, he cant bear to make music slouched over a mouse). his only goal is to make something that will keep himself dancing.

first remix was done by mr raoul k who is well known for his productions that mixes original african instruments with techno and deep house. his releases spreaded his unique sound over the world with great acclaim from gilles peterson, joe claussel and many other djs. his 12 min epic rework is full of psychedelic elements, hypnotic grooves and african percussions. gilles peterson already supported this one on his worldwide show.

skipson returns on raum with his second single for our label. somewhere between detroit house, hip hop influences and loads of funk he is constantly managing to deliver his own unique and very characteristic sound. support comes from no other than mister no ears rob mello who is delivering one of his sought after no ears dubs. we hope that you enjoy as much as we do.

mr raoul k finally got one of his personal ‘heroes to do a remix on one of his tracks. joe claussel takes ‘ayoka (taken from ‘neo-evolution 02?) to a whole new level. he adds a lot of jazz-tingend sounds (especially percussion) and athmosphere but manages to keep the overall african timbre of the original.

hot on the heels of release 050 from tiefschwarz with argenis brito on vocal duty, comes a neat remix package with contributions from david k, strangers in heaven and re-up. french producer david k has released on all the major parisian labels, freak n chic, rue de plaisance, jetaime amongst others.

and the story goes like this: skipson (also known as knarf skipson in the past) was recording the >ks editspot pt.1<, which is based on samples from a rob mello track. as skipson is a nice fella, he sent the final version to rob. and as rob is a nice fella too, he liked it, sent one of his tracks back and this project was born. thats the easy way of sample clearing! this 10inch is about house music, as simple as that! groovy beats and fat basslines, rough and ready. limited to 500 copies - enjoy!
