as ever, the next project on opilec music is one with a rich back story this time paying homage to a very specific disco scene of the early 80s: it finds label boss i-robots turning out one of his brilliant reconstructions, namely of a classic and cult track by one hit wonders ahzz. this track was first released on land of hits, a label run by peter brown (who also wrote -material girl- for madonna) and michael campbell and has now been officially licensed for this reissue by opilec music. the track, new york s movin was huge on the new york disco scene and was played by the likes of david mancuso at the loft, larry levan at the paradise garage and by nicky siano at studio 54, but continued to be a big hit with modern new york tastemakers kenny dope, dj spinna, danny krivit and his body & soul party crew well into the 90s, as well as with stars like motor city drum ensemble and bulljun. i-robots is a notorious producer and record collector with a vast understanding of the history of house and disco and his version combines an original vocal and instrumental version into something really magical. new york s movin (i-robots reconstruction take i) is a jangling, organic and lose limbed disco number with a funky drum line, soul in its bones and plenty of lovably rough percussion, clicks and drums. a retro and impassioned vocal line adds flair to the track at the midpoint just before that groove kicks once more. this version is featured on the new i-robots - reconstructions 2007-2017 10th year anniversary release. new york s movin (i-robots reconstruction take ii) is then just as emotive and outgoing but after the break has more of a focus on funk. this is a huge party starting track filled with feel good vibes and once again proves opilec music work on only the most special projects.

after the huge success of their first collaboration, doorly and el prevost are back for part two: this time the world touring doorly serves up a hot original that gets remixed by red rack‘em and el prevost, while el prevost also serves up an original of his own, all on his own no speakers label. the first ep, featuring a lee foss remix, got support form the likes of paco osuna, solomun and groove armada and this second instalment is set to be just as big this summer. doorly is a dance heavyweight who headlines clubs like space ibiza on his global travels, releases on cajual, hot creations and dirtybird and is no stranger to hitting high places in the charts with his big and infectious sounds. as a dj he is energetic and can make a mark on any dance floor, and so will this new tune, ’sonder.’ it is six superbly deep and atmospheric minutes of warm, rolling drums and searching synths that bring an intergalactic feel next to twinkling keys. jostling percussion brings a little loose funk and the whole thing is sure to lock in dance floors. el prevost then steps up to remix after 15 years of putting out killer cuts on labels like third ear. his music has made its way into the record bags of tastemakers like steve bug, dj hell and steffi and this excellent remix shows off his singular style again. it is a little tougher and more energetic than the original, with sprinkled hits, rumbling bass and pixelated synth lines dancing about up top. then comes red rack‘em, the bergerac boss who had a huge hit with ‘wonky disco bassline banger’ last year. it was one of the tracks of the year and has been followed by an equally brilliant album by this esteemed house veteran. his remix here is big, bouncy and off kilter thanks to its coarse hi hats and punchy rubber drums. great vocal treatment adds more wonkiness and broad synth strokes flesh things out into another sure-fire party starter that sounds like little else. last but not least, el prevost offers up a solitary state mix of his own ‘temper mental’. it’s a hugely inventive track with great synth modulations burrowing deep into your brain as dancing hi hats and whirring bass encourage you to cut loose and shift freaky shapes. this is a strong ep that really packs a punch across four standout tracks.

the first spinning plates ep back in february was picked up by print media and radio tastemakers from ra and dj mag to b.traits and moxie, whilst djs as diverse as ivan smagghe and francois k slotted it into their dj bags. as such there has been much demand for a second release, and now it arrives in the form of a fascinating split ep from scene veteran andy rantzen and relative newcomer bruno schmidt, who helps a&r for the label. in fact it was bruno who came across andy’s tracks during a late night youtube session. andy, who remixed inxs and severed heads back in the day and is a sydney based producer who has been active for three decades, had upped a load of his old demos to youtube in the faint hope that one day someone might find them. and damn are we happy he did, because they are brilliant affairs that sound like little else. for his part, bruno has been a louche resident and hifi creator alongside andrew james gustav and gwenan and delivers an exceptional stripped down late night trip/early morning trip.

enemy returns with another remix package including efforts from some of our favorite producers at the moment. this collective includes the crafty and credible sound of vril, the legendary steve bicknell, and house musics latest tastemakers mr. tophat and art alfie. getting the remix treatment this time around is dustin zahns 2014 comeback release, >new day rising<. monsieur tophat and his esteemed colleague art alfie surprised us by turning in a very dark and stompy techno rendition of >lost in rapture<. it goes without saying that this one is definitely geared towards the time of the night when things get a little weird. vril follows up with an excellent take on >new day rising< by keeping the tension for nearly three minutes before the reese-like bassline drops in and causes the track to evolve into a groove that demands instant attention. steve bicknell rounds out the package with the peak-time hammer! its relentless, heady, and undoubtedly bicknell! this one has >rave< written all over it.

next up to add his sounds to the ever impressive hotflush cannon is argentinas shall ocin. he serves up the cliff/the mist, a two track ep that showcases his knack for infectious groove in all its glory. the man born nicolas abalos has released music under a number of aliases over the last decade plus, but it is as shall ocin that he has had most success. putting out music on labels like culprit and ellum audio, he has established himself amongst contemporary tastemakers and here cements his reputation with a great debut on hotflush

2015 repress !! the prolific lay-far has had a string of stunning 12 inches over the past few years and nothing seems to be stopping him either. aroop roys eclectic work as a producer has been supported worldwide by numerous tastemakers including gilles peterson, kyoto jazz massive, patrick forge and laurent garnier. we got in touch with aroop after hearing his brilliant contributions on g.a.m.m.
