seine debüt ep nahm patrick o laoghaire aka i have a tribe mit rob ellis (pj harvey/anna calvi) und conor o brien von den villagers auf, begleitete dann auf ausdrücklichen wunsch der künstlerin anna calvi auf ihrer europatour, eröffnete für die villagers ihre irische homecoming-show und spielte ebenfalls die new yorker clubs electric picnic und cmj. i have a tribes blend aus popsensibilität und folkiger melancholie war nie offenkundiger als auf dem faszinierenden song * monsoon* sowie dem ep titeltrack * yellow raincoats*. dieser erlangte die aufmerksamkeit von frank wiedemann (Âme, howling), der ihm seine ausgezeichneten remixkünste verlieh und ihn zu einem wahren pop-juwel schliff.

*darling arithmetic* ist nach *becoming a jackal* und *{awayland}* das inzwischen dritte album von conor obrien und es ist nichts weniger als eine kleine Überraschung, hatte der ire doch noch im letzten frühjahr eine sehr viel elektronischere ausrichtung für das kommende album angekündigt. doch *darling arithmetic* ist das bislang vielleicht intimste album von villagers, und man muss es wohl als eine logische konsequenz verstehen, dass conor obrien dafür einen anderen weg eingeschlagen hat. geschrieben, aufgenommen und produziert wurde das album im alleingang in seinem haus nördlich von dublin. die instrumentierung ist spärlich, klavier, gitarre und mellotron sind zu hören. die lyrics kreisen um das große, vielleicht das einzige thema der menschheit: die liebe - zu sich selbst und zu all den anderen.

new label from dublin club promoter conor lynch. conor has been djing and promoting the pogo night for a number of years now, and has a very diverse music policy, with the underlying ethos of anything goes, as long as it is quality. guests have ranged from theo parrish, b12, carl craig, optimo through to the ting tings. the aim is to transfer the ethos from the vibrant club onto vinyl. this is certainly not the reason that we would consider taking on a label for distribution, but the fact that this release from dublin real techno producers tr-one, is as beautiful a slice of deep detroit styled techno as your likely to hear his side of the motor city, certainly is.

island people is a new band project consisting of mastering engineer conor dalton, grammy award winning producer david donaldson, and musician and dj graeme reedie. on their first self- titled record, they present their collaborative work that evolved over the past three years. being based in different cities, namely berlin and glasgow, files had to be exchanged back and forth between the three band members in order to create tracks. for their delicate sound structures, field recordings and other sound sources were heavily processed and rendered unrecognizable. layer after layer, the tracks came into being quiet naturally, not only reflecting their continuous way of working, but also incorporating their different and individual backgrounds: Òduring the whole creation of the album, we never realized our actions were quickly leading us into forming Èisland peopleÇ, we were too busy having fun, making music and sharing ideas.Ó the result of their collaboration is a timeless music that is as open as a natural phenomenon, developing a certain feeling of euphoria over time. all in all, Èisland peopleÇ is a pure listening record in the best tradition of ambient.

bruce springsteens heartland ist new jersey. das von conor oberst nebraska. und thees uhlmanns herzland heißt niedersachsen. und wie seine beiden kollegen ist auch der tomte-saenger gefangen zwischen liebe und hass fuer die provinz. so etwa im song -lat. 53.7 lon 9.11667-, der gleichzeitig lob- und abgesang auf seine heimat ist. uhlmann legt auf seinem ersten soloalbum mehr wert aufs storytelling und nimmt einen mit auf eine reise von paris im herbst bis nach rom in truemmern, von guenter grass zu jay-z (mit casper). in uhlmanns herzland ist platz fuer nackte priester und aufgemotzte autos. der rock ist weniger indie, gibt sich stattdessen breiter und opulenter. es muss nicht immer die gitarre sein, die den weg vorgibt. warum nicht mal ein klavier? oder ein beat? ein bass, ein paar blaeser? oder alles zusammen? insgesamt mehr us- als brit-rock, mehr tamtam als tomte. uhlmann und produzent tobias kuhn schoepfen aus dem vollen und klopfen an den wall of sound, bis es staubt, kracht und wackelt.
