tribal pulse is 5 years old, and we re celebrating with a special series of vinyl and compilation releases, and parties in some really insane locations, including a unique birthday celebration in the beautiful highlands of scotland. first up we have boom merchant s i see the future available on 180g vinyl and containing contributions from italian slammin techno kingpin johnny kaos and maltese 303 sniper acidulant. the title track is a morphing, energetic futurist techno cut. a powerful, bass-driven groove works alongside complex analogue percussion sequencing and growling distortion before detroit-style chords and atmospherics move in to take you higher, before slamming you back into the dark groove once again. this one is a real bomb waiting to go off. for sub mission boom merchant combines forces once again with johnny kaos, and in keeping with the theme of the ep, the results are dark, distorted and full of flavor. the track roars through lashings of sub and relentless machine bleeps, drums and noises, jumping in and out of breakbeats with a monster reese bass chasing you down from start to finish. to round off the ep, acidulant does what he does best, stripping the original back to its bare elements, looping the vocal and creating a roland-heavy roller full of squelchy goodness. we see the future, and we are bringing it to you on wax. we hope these tracks put a smile on your face.

after the success of most excellent unlimited’s first dj tools collection, a new roster of dance floor masters has convened to open their bag of tricks. theres something for every mood on this eight- track ep, opening appropriately with the one-two disco punch of justin van der volgen’s energetic conga break high in nyc and legendary better days alum bruce forest’s anthemic “street break, with its instantly recognizable brass hook and percussion from brazilian maestro airto moreira. photays j train squeak break builds drama with a minimal afro texture while phil moffa goes the other way with a tribal four-on-the-floor stomper. the flip side continues the diverse directive, as devin dares opening segment demonstrates with a never-issued labelle live session. jex opolis crafts a clever sun palace-esque casio workout and downtown veterans whatever/whatever revisit a much- loved technopop beat before kza takes things out with fitness beats, a sweaty workout that runs through a dozen iconic disco breaks. once again, most excellent breaks, beats & loops lives up to its name with a high-quality collection that proudly extends the lineage of the classic new york city break compilation.

newcastle-based producer traela makes his first appearance on wax with this on-point work out for hhatri, a london based label who have previously been happily working with the likes of soichi terada. there is definitely a sense of feel-good optimism and kinked drum programming hovering over this ep, especially on hanging over a river. you know i can hide also stands out with its strafing bass lick and spacescraping synth rolls, but the script gets flipped for ep closer uyokuthola as tribal percussion meets with an ambient atmosphere for a most engrossing end result.

melbourne acid techno artist lou karsh is back with a second 12” on his imprint lkr records. the “tribal transition ep” features three original tracks and one intense and energetic reconstruction by perth artist consulate. combining chopped breaks and trademark acid with a fresh nod to the deep, raw, heavy and fast, lkr002 conjures images of thunderous raves of times gone by.

credit 00 strikes back with four cuts between jungle funk and sublime party bombs. -tribal rhythm machine- starts off with subtle but effective drumming that works on the dance floor as much as it could be the soundtrack to your road trip to utopia. then there is -curse of the medusa-, a pretty rumbling track that takes full advantage of its super-funky vocal samples and almost explosive percussion action. -voodoo soup- fishes in muddy waters with credit 00 s distinctive drum work and tribal sounds from outer space. the final track -snake charmer- is building things up nice and steady. but when the hypnotizing synth melody breaks ground neither serpents nor dancers can resist. the artwork was created by alexander dorn a.k.a. credit 00 himsel

following the first installment of the furnace series, solparas thinking of jaeta is a dark techno ode to a fictional androgynous creature who lives on the moon, haunted by earths turmoils. sector ys hozvepian is a pulsing journey, inspired by the early winter mornings of montréals fattal. blue shifts in absentia is an extract of oren ratowskys and hugo boccas debut live set in the summer of 2014. on the b side, pts untitled leads you on an entrancing tribal journey, unwinding your thoughts into dreamy pads, spiraling up as it goes. finishing up the furnace series is arabie 82s woozy, introspective caravan.

the furnace series is a two-part compilation of music inspired by a special room in the montreal apartment shared by booma collective from 2012-2014. when venues to throw parties became scarce, booma used this room leading to the fire escape in the back of the apartment known as the furnace as a space for small gatherings among close friends. the furnace series is a collection of memories of those intimate parties and impromptu jam sessions. part one features four tracks by booma collective founders and friends, beginning with psyche, a hypnotic, dub-techno inspired composition with oscillating, piercing sounds, evoking whistling flurries. solparas garden in the furnace echoes the hollowed-out concrete architecture of the furnace itself, filling up then emptying its atmosphere with layered drum machines and ghostly voices. cf01 is the result of feedback experimentation carefully arranged into a slow tribal jam. oren ratowsky. producer of booma collectives first vinyl release, rounds off the b side with gorby, an eleven and a half minute exploration of his mastery of analog synthesizers.

we welcome to the label two extremely talented sound sculptors from mexico, kaban & di rugerio. both boast a string of innovative sounds released on some top notch labels, but here they have teamed up to bring us something really special. *overflow* is a swirling nemesis of a track, with crashing drums and tribal percussion flowing around huge electrical pulses that inject pure energy into the dancefloor.
boom merchant follows up last years hugely successful *stars/green symphony* with another perfect balance of rhythmic and melodic elements. *surge* is a track that always generates a huge reaction, built around a tight groove with plenty of action in the low end. it is literally smeared with electrical charge and doused in layers of harmonic goodness.

glasgow based imprint tribal pulse launches this july with temujin by boom merchant, backed with a remix from pole folder. boom merchant was born in ireland, raised in spain and now resides in glasgow, the hometown of tribal pulse. merchant grew up on a diet of detroit techno, house and generally futuristic forward thinking sounds, which is evidently apparent in his own productions. tribal pulse therefore is a fitting home for this new release, as the label sets out to deliver deep, pulsating electronic rhythms designed for the dance floor.
