uplifting & mesmerizing, extended house trips

the ep -a form of travel unknown to humans- is chasing us. guiding and forcing a way simultaneously. the sound is harsh but has an immaculate precision to it –void of air- compelling the listener toward a light, seducing us to tear through the night. we enter with „s.m.o.d. – sticks- a deep and magnetic sound opening up slowly, starting to breathe and to merge into -s.m.o.d. – cell culture- which gives a much more metallic flavour but never the less beat driven – fast and strident- maybe even hasty, pushing to skip a beat of the heart. to finish off with -s.m.o.d – pulse- carrying an unsettling almost disturbing quality, formulating a mechanical sound alienated from the human experience. the ep creates a seductive space outside our comfort zone, inviting to explore a space and travel unknown to humans. gimme more.

since infiltrating dancefloors and airwaves with april’s 2sox001 release, debukas has been dreaming away in his ‘shake box’ and travelling to another world. the follow up to that debut 2sox release is the dream travel ep from “the mr. fingers of the highlands” (brewster. bill, 2015, low life).

after a successful summer of church white releases gathering support from session victim, move d, galcher lustwerk and a host of others, church returns with it’s next offering from peckham via auckland brothers chaos in the cbd. fresh off the back of the juno number one seller ep ‘midnight in peckham’ on rhythm section, they delve into deeper territory with emotive title track ‘constraints of time travel’

shaw cuts enters the site of crime with its first release called ‘have sword, will travel’. the ep includes 4 techno assassins – two tracks by the label founder himself lachriz, who introduces his shaolin moniker ‘farron’ and 2 remixes by the argentinian boxer jonas kopp. ‘equinox’ opens the slaughter with shaking break-beat punches in combination with atmospheric pads surrounding the drum jabs. ti lung would have been pleased. the track ‘apo-g’ comes in sly and chases the enemy with dirty drums and menacing distorted sound spheres that will morph the bad guys into dead guys – throwing star style. the b-side gets taken over all the way by jonas kopp, who brings up two different remixes of ‘equinox’ that can easily cut off the rival’s extremities like a sharp guillotine. and the carnage just begun

last years tbg01 was charted by german djane ellen allien and broadcasted by gilles peterson of bbc-international fame - amongst others. the second installment (with the slightly confusing catalog-number tbg04) changes its appearance from white-label 12 inch in a black & white gatefold cover to heavy white vinyl in a multicolored disco-sleeve. the labels patron arthur boto conley showcases the work of obscure 1980s producer clifford trunk. the lo-fi dance and ambient tracks origin from a tape which was hand to conley by trunk during a brief encounter at düsseldorfs ratinger hof in 1986. depicted on the cover you can see italian designer ettore sottsass work for the fashion company esprits european headquarter which opened up the same year. clifford trunk was working for the sottsass associati from 1982 on and had a leisure time obsession for drum-computers and sample synths. what a serendipity! - limited to 333 records.
