dutch label field records is back with another special album project, this time from japanese producer ena aka yu asaeda. bridge is an introspective soundtrack for a documentary also called bridge - out this spring - which is about the dejima bridge, a reconstructed symbol of the dutch-japanese trading history in nagasaki, japan. the album finds the producer stepping outside of his usual remit of dark ambient and experimental music, and instead comprises ten shorter tracks that touch on abstract and rhythmic sounds that define the essence of japanese culture. although he has worked with the director before, this is ena s first original sound track and finds him freely inspired by the movie and heading in exciting and unknown directions. hugely atmospheric throughout, there is hypnotic repetition of sounds, strange audio design and a mixture of melancholic moods with more dreamy synths. sometimes gloopy rhythms gently ripple beneath soothing harmonies and at others times a micro-rhythm appears through the constantly shifting and evolving found sound loops. it s a compelling and unusual album that seamlessly mixes human emotions with a mechanical sense of industry.

sound warrior records founded by jenifa mayanja & dakini 9 aims to balance the playing field for female producers and exclusively release their music. sw006 warrior formulation is rooted in soul-stirring house with its heart arching towards the future. lady fingers returns with an engrossing slice of dub house. the north carolina artist/dj was recently a featured dj at moog fest. jenifa mayanja bumako records, shows up with a broken ambient house break. on the flip side sound warrior teams with well known berlin underground heroines mint berlin the female only booking agency. representing mint berlin is co-founder ena lind who has been pushing boundaries in the electronic music scene in berlin for over a decade. lady blacktronika comes with a soul house soaker. she has made quite a splash with her labels sound black and sound keymstry in the process earning the title first lady of beatdown.

ena revisits his divided series with 2 unique releases compiling highlighted dissections of his live performances, further developed into individual tracks. horoex4 - divided: body sees enas return to the horo label for his first vinyl release since the divided 7inch in 2015 which garnered support from the likes of nicolas jaar and lee gamble. divided: body contains 4 physical, caustic creations that show clearly just how far yus style has developed in the past 3 years since his landmark ‘binaural lp for horo.

the second instalment of the enigmatic olympos series comes in the form of apollo, recognised as the god of music, art, medicine and plague amongst other traits. the a side gets underway with the hypnotic cutter (a1) (ena), that intersects its atmospheric layers and solid bassline to a trippy effect while a2 s (a2) (duo) consists of syncopated percussive elements swathed in blissful pads and acidic segments. flipside s (b1(tria) returns to denser and more psychedelic waters that leads nicely to the breezy and gloaming vibes of (b2) tessera). all in all, a proper immersive head trip. ltd hand stamped.
