agile recordings is a new label, with a strong concept, the common idea is to promote and support quality music, from well known international artists and give the opportunity to new talented producers to release their original works. the first release is done by uto karem and rino cerrone

the young nordic label is back at it with a sturdy 12” vinyl release, produced by the helsinki underground electronic music champion poly sone. the three tracker kicks off with an intro track titled “come find me” which combines stripped down rhythm patterns with a subtle choir pad. on top of the foundation, an entrancing spoken word verse works as the main ingredient throughout the track. as the needle pushes onwards to the title track “echolocate”, the listener is confronted with a robust wall of lowend, soon accompanied by rolling percussions and clever use of reverb and delay. the simple composition highlights its sterling production and makes for a highly useful dancefloor tool. the last track “helix” bundles up the record nicely as the most melodic one of the bunch. the agile synth stabs and dystopic pads operate on a surprisingly groovy soil of bass and drums which add up to a dreamy whole.

various creatures of the native flora and fauna are interpreted musically on dominik eulbergs label apus apus. the music pieces are thoughtfully presented with 2 tracks per ep. his first ep features the track bienenfresser (eng. bee-eater) on the a side and blauracke (engl. blue roller) on the flip side. the bee-eater is the most colorful bird of our native lands a quality which is echoed through the piece of the same name. the composition oscillates from one color into another without losing its significant habitus. it is a musical journey through the color scheme of the bee-eater, through which dominik eulberg takes us by way of his iconic style. he succeeds at a striking balancing act between sensitive subtlety and steady pressure, in order to offer us a satisfying share of hedonism. it is a piece of music that provides an intimate listening experience, while simultaneously supplying listeners with a collective, mobilizing anthem. the long introduction of the track emulates the agile flight for prey of the dazzling bird, but then it fervently taps out the stinger of the captured bee, and finally nothing can stand in the way of the massiveness of the celebratory bass drum. intrepid, yet with a high degree of ataraxia, dominik leads us through the skies on an expedition into the colorful land of the bee-eater. the magnificent turquoise blue plumage of the blue roller glimmers green or blue, depending on the quality of light. these colors, translated into worlds of sound, are reflected in this piece of the same name. sparkling melodies intertwine gracefully along musical chains, and create a constant redefinition of the theme. the piece is inviting and catchy in the typical eulbergian manner submerging into the auditory tract and manifesting itself with much elegy in the deepest cortex. the blue roller is a sit-and-wait hunter at first occupied with idleness, until finally capturing its anticipated prey. this imperturbable serenity is felt in this piece of music and illustrates eulberg s many years of knowledge and experience. he steers his audiences through the true essence of music, while always keeping both hands firmly on the wheel.

the 2nd album from french electronic experimantalist serge blenner, originally released in 1981, is back on vinyl via bureau b.

following their work compiling last year’s hugely well-received ten years of jaunt ep, blackhall & bookless return to their label with four varied, equally confident shades of their distinct, versatile dancefloor vision. ‘forward’ is an instantly enveloping slice of big-room techno that’s entirely club ready and yet focused on atmosphere and tension, taking no prisoners and yet unfolding on it’s own terms. that same ecstatic and almost ethereal club pressure reemerges on ‘voyager’, under which gently unleashes a skittering landscape of blissful breakbeats and vangelisesque synths. inspired by the unforgiving sea that borders their hometown in the north east of england, ‘ocean’ is perhaps the most intense moment on the ep, dragging listeners into wave after wave of undulating dub chords, always underpinned by driving, raw and percussive drums. ending in forgiving ambience, this moment of respite leads to the conclusion, ‘occupy’. a beatless send-off, it nonetheless remains equally compelling and vast in it’s filmic and complex sound design, showcasing blackhall & bookless’ finely tuned meld of the substantial and the subtle. tinged with the north sea air and the pulse of detroit, blackhall & bookless continue to master the sound of agile, accessible yet uncompromising club music.

italian club staple and producer kaiser turns to moc for his debris ep, showcasing three agile techno slices and a remix from exploration records chief johannes volk. “parachute” opens up the release in a spellbinding, energy-heavy manner, with its whirlwind groove and lead taking no prisoners. next up is “debris”, showing off an equally energetic prowess channeling zig zagging synths and a more melodic, yet still heavy strung bassline. “esplosione di colori”, translated as ‘color explosion’ aptly translates into sound what is usually only possible for a paint canvas. a lighthearted, arpegio-ridden track in original, johannes volk works his magic, turning it into a versatile piece of raw, dubby techno.

it was 2016 when we last saw the venezuelan duo, better known as fur coat, drop their debut ‘interstellar ep on watergate records and now they finally return with their follow up, the ‘immersion ep. immersion kicks off with an agile kick drum setting the stage for rapid fire percussion and an overwhelmingly satisfying ascending organ line that could be the trademark of any sci-fi film score. add a few shudders of glimmering atmospherics and its a trek into the cosmic realm of techno where space and time cease to exist. flipping sides the duo dive deeper into the infinite expanse with inner circle where lush textures canvas a mesmerizing groove and hypnotic spirals of gratifying repetitive sonics resulting in a fiercely energetic yet undeniably euphoric expedition under the club lights. embracing the tools and mechanics that have made their sound unique and successful for so long, fur coat seems to have delivered their most mature and polished ep to date with their ‘immersion ep where stunning spacial details and a precise attention to detail have embodied the age old saying, less is more. fur coat is back. immerse yourself.

len faki isnt showing any signs of slowing things down over on his special edits-platform, already lining up the second round of 2018 and thus bringing the catalogue total up to lfrmx006. alex danilovs inside comes in two new versions here, both of which build upon the russian producers trademark filter action, making for a groove that funks as strongly as it remains subtle. first off the charming deepspace mix patiently unfolds into crisp breaks and lush strings, followed by a remarkably atmospheric hardspace mix, which soon steps it up a notch and gets smacking in order to get that floor chugging away to its choo-choo-chimes. meanwhile on the other side, developers steaming lost moments is treated to an array of additional elements, the outcome sounding razor-sharp and agile as ever, yet still channeling a considerable amount of propulsive force. as with all releases of lf rmx, the proceeds of this record will be donated to the berlin charity project straßenkinder e.v. to be used in actions against child poverty.

following on from this year s brooding debut, anthony linell gathers a storming double 12- of material to depth charge vacant participants and lilting movers. leaving aside his well established abdulla rashim moniker, emerald fluorescents feels like an agile side-step into heavier terrain with a renewed sense of purpose. scattered fractal stabs revolve around quietly furious low-end fit outs with enough sharp edges to let you know it s someone else s space.

the second release on figure jams continues to pursue our new concept of pairing certain artists together, this time placing the seasoned swedish sound sculptor patrik skoog alongside abstract division, a collaborative project of paul boex and dave miller, two equally experienced dutch producers. the latter deliver a pair of straight-forward tunes that seemingly stem from the depths of space. with an intimidating backdrop of menacing and rummaging drones they carefully create a constant sense of alarming tension that is never lifted. this abstract threat takes solid shape in patrik skoogs slamming -the field-, a heavy hitter of immense magnitude that despite packing a bouncy punch still stays afloat thanks to its lightly dancing hats. another agile alien grooves closes the ep, with rides zooming in and out, slingering and cutting through the tracks subtly booming body

josé james is reborn as a powerful voice in contemporary r&b on “love in a time of madness”. even for an artist as creatively restless as james, “love in a time of madness” is something new: an r&b focused foray into moody soul, electronic pop, and trap-addled beats, with the occasional influence of african folk, american gospel and minneapolitan funk. and though james’ voice is no less agile and his ear no less adventurous, this is also his most relatable, daresay sexiest work yet, detailing love’s ups and downs without holding back an ounce of emotion.

repress! toulouse s finest upstarts zendid inaugurate their discobar debut with a glittering model of latter-day micro house. skittish signature beats fluctuate with precision low end whilst carrying agile and developed themes. diversity oozes from each track, consummated by a signature trippy flow and bold melodic cohesion. the duo s respect and deft grasp of the modern colour of the dance floor belies their youth, and earns them a warranted position in the discobar family.

nobody can deny the fact that vilnius in lithuania is currently a very creative and agile place. first and foremost mario basanov of course, whose ten walls moniker swept the board last year and whose hype seems to have only just started. his popularity was heightened by the start of his own label boso. it took off with the highly praised -walking with elephants-, which was already one of the biggest tunes of this summer, before it even came out. the second release is by few nolder, another highly talented native from vilnius, who showed frst signs of life on connaisseur with his lovely tune -space espace- on our last edition of livingroom techno as well as with his remix for -canto d amore- by marco effe & francesco carone. -clouds- is the name of his boso release, and it looks to be the next big thing for this young label. for his frst own release on connaisseur he delivered -if-.the fact that it is different from his other output is why we have decided to present this tune in two versions as a 10- vinyl-only single. the original is a summerish and catchy house cut with a bouncy bassline and a slightly uk-approach.this tune makes you move without there being much you can do about it. the alt version goes deeper, building up with a question/answer theme until a strong, driving piano element joins to complete the track. lovers of older pokerflat releases will truly enjoy this version.

prolific dutch producer roel funcken has established himself an agile, meticulous sonic craftsman whose output has consistently been as accessible as it has innovative. most recently, he opened for flying lotus and tipper during his last us tour. as half of the group funckarma, he has recorded for esteemed labels including skam, ad noiseam, arcola (warp), isophlux, marguerita, and others. for mercury retrograde, his first release on schematic, funken taps into textures reminiscent of the mid 90s drum n base sub genre tech step, the lush downtempo of bristol, and hans zimmer’s soundtrack work. this latest release adds to the ever evolving, rich, and inspired catalog of funcken.

ferdinando apicella a.k.a. kernel key was born in naples. in 2011 he started his electronic carreer as producer and has already had releases on popofs form imprint as well as releases on agile the label of uto karem, loose records and mkt the label of markantonio. now he makes is next step with his release on kd music.

here uto karem returns to plus 8 for his second release on the label, with the two tracks he serves up - take control and all over you - continuing in the rising italian stars good run of form. as well as being an in-demand remixer, dj and producer, karem also runs his own agile recordings imprint on which he explores the same deep techno rhythms and loopy hypnotism as he does with his two original tracks here.take control is a liquid track which builds in looped layers through piston pumping percussion, up-right beats and plenty of melodic drama. though it pushes on from left to right in true plus 8 style, the warmth and atmosphere that surrounds the main beats and bass is what really sets the track alight. all over you again features a crisp, almost dry production style as various percussive elements flesh out a 4/4 techno groove. hidden within each bar are some wooden sounding hits and various melodic notes, all of which are heart-warming additions to a killer dancefloor groove. as well as this, there is a more driving dub version of take control which canters on a knife edge for its six minute duration, closing out another efficient and streamlined techno release on plus 8.

its almost 4 years to the day that jeff samuels >throatwobbler mangrove ep< was released on karloff #03, and even today the four world hits of the record are getting digged out by djs, when the minimalism needs to either groove or jack again. so now with >return of the throatwobbler< theres finally an appropriate follow-up by the man from seattle.. erm.. berlin, after he’s impressively run riot in the meantime, on labels like spectral, trapez, poker flat, frankie and logistic. the a-side >terso< is shuffling and twirling and bouncing in such a winsome way that not many can master like jeff samuel. almost like an electric ray - left and right and left, and without letting any tempting gimmicks take the mind off the straight path. appropriately enough, >the spook< on the b-side comes along a bit more spookily, with a bassline twisting into the brain, ripped up by miniatures of bleeps and chords just in the right moments, and thus leading the track to an agile, exhilarated climax

marc antona makes his mobilee debut with this agile, wiry three-track ep . best known until now for his records for paris >freak n chic< label marc builds on the mobilee sound you have come to expect, with well-oiled rhythms, delicate pings and sub-bass rumble that knocks your feet out from under you. >one more sugar< rides along a loose-limbed groove splashed with bright arpeggios that rain down like liquid diamonds. ragged hi-hats aflare, tension builds and breaks like a ripped flag catching crosswinds. the track stretches toward the horizon, throwing up rolling hills and gliding down them as naturally as a champion cyclist. understated funk that packs a hidden punch...
