from a small town called florence, alabama, gene the southern child has been quietly releasing music under the radar for years. florence is part of an area known as “the shoals,” which houses the legendary fame recording studios and is also the hometown of w.c. handy “the father of blues.” hailing from this rich musical history, gene’s unique style is smooth southern hip-hop, incorporating poetry, blues, and soul.

after the success of our first release, with kessell&substance, granulart recordings is proud to present the second release, adding one of the irish finest dub&detroit techno producers to our small (for now) roster. strong ep with three tracks, a great mix of top dub techno with just the right amount of classic detroit sound.

now hes back with three glorious deep techno tracks that mark the start of an interplanetary trilogy for the label. lead track >exopshere< takes up where his komisch debut left off, with foreboding, dub-tinged chords building into a menacing climax and swarms of driving, razor sharp percussion keeping the arrangement focused on the dance floor. on the flip, >deep end< sees parallel exploring more esoteric sounds, with swirling, layered chords underpinned by dubbed out drums, heavy claps and hissing percussion, like an update of classic sterac material. >analogue city< brings a mellow end to the release. deep pads and ghostly sounds hover above a warm, splurging bassline that recalls underground resistance in mellow, tripped out mode. if youre looking for the classic sounds reinterpreted for contemporary techno dance floors, then make sure to get an audience with the >cosmic observer<.

colin mckeown a.k.a. the parallel has build up quite a name for himself the past 2 years with deep, dubbed and spaced out techno releases on prolific imprints such as komisch, nice & nasty and science timeless music from the emerald isle.

two tracks taken from the turn the page lp. a side >release< - calming things down a little, >release< continues the tempo with a bouncing bass and booming sub to match as delicate synth stabs and vocal washes trickle over the top to make for a great cut as the lp journey picks up pace. aa side >the sleeper< is anything but with its rollin? bassline and stepping drums that smash any club when dropped. a sure-footed crowd pleaser that shows the guys getting seriously engrossed in some vintage d&b vibes.
