after spending the majority of 2009 in hollywood, chanes briefly returned home to finish up songs for what would become his 2010 release, an experimentation in instrumentation. the 15-track tape, presented by house shoes, exposed us all to the nomadic 21-year-old producer from canton, michigan. chanes would spend the next two years working between home and brooklyn, before relocating to arizona, where he would release his follow up project, renegade hands, (insect records 2013). presented again by shoes, hands solidified chanes as one of the most promising young producers in the country.
fast-forward to 2016, and at 27, this self-titled debut takes us circa 2007 - 2009 with the soul-chopping salad days of his mother s basement, through the alternative sampling williamsburg, brooklyn sessions of 2010. if the melancholy desert psychedelia of his isolated four years in perpetual southwestern summer gives us a glimpse into his growing electronic influences, then the angst of his winter homecomings are hiding under the aggressive parka weather beats that first caught the attention of detroit’s underground.

‚narcotic romance’ is a free-basing discofunk jam that sounds like it’s been found in a time capsule on the shore of lake garda, buried deep beneath the ruins of the cosmic club. ‚summer on repeat’ is a slipping and sliding slice of liquid techno that deftly balance playfulness and pathos, with a real emotional undercurrent belying it’s punchy wonkiness. ‚sun sign’ combines the wonk and the disco from both of the preceding tracks, and slows them down to menacing effect, with a chugging discordance that is very correspondant.

the third release from new imprint dama dama, is another offering from label co-founder pedestrian, following the label’s well-received debut ep - ‘circadian rhythms’ . ‘pick your shots clean’ is a track inspired by this spring’s european dama dama label launch tour, which saw founding members pedestrian & maribou state take to the road, curating bespoke parties with back to back all night dj sets. as ever, the music itself is hard to categorise, but we would say that it sits somewhere between a rugged 90’s chemical brothers track and a 70’s arabian psych-rock record. the flipside - ‘airs & graces’ - serves as a counter-balance (a kind of yang to the ying of the a-side), that picks up where circadian rhythms left off, taking the listener off on a melodic 5-minute trip. currently gearing up to release a new signing in the dama dama camp, the team also have their sights set on the curation of festival stages, more intriguing night endeavors and a new mixtape series, all set for delivery over the coming months. pedestrian now with his sights firmly set on writing his debut lp, will be found at a number of festivals over the summer.

oona dahl joined us at all day i dream last year both as a dj and recording artists. her first release high eyes was featured on our summer sampler and floated onto the dance floor and into the consciousness of dj s around the world. oona studied sound design in the usa before moving to berlin over the summer of 2015 to continue honing and crafting her sound. her first full ep for adid features deep dreamscapes and innovative arrangements underpinned by solid grooves that capture emotive, twisted melodic expressions. she and her music are a trip to the depths.
