it s time again for us to welcome another first timer to the second state roster: rocko garoni. having been label manager of sisyphon, in-house imprint of the acclaimed sisyphos club in berlin, garoni is no stranger to curating high quality records, and this time he gets to be curator of his own stunning detection ep. jumping in head first, detection , mischievous number that is equal parts vicious and cunning as it is sensual and inviting. provocative female whispers float over a beat sure to slay any crowd, any time. switching gears, garoni heads into houser territories on phaseful , where glimmers of classic house artifacts are scattered like flickering shimmers over an energetic drum illustration. coming up next is tragedy . it s low slung drums, vast spanning bass and sinister vocal declarations make it an ideal ambassador for the dark mysterious nights. wrapping up the ep is a huge rework of detection by regal, who churns out a burner by cranking up the tempo and tension with crisp drums and an undeniable classic rave leads sure to make the forefathers of techno proud. if it keeps up like this, we expect much more big things in the future from rocko garoni!

the bielefeld based combo „system of ice“ is shaking the dancefloors with their raw and energyloaded analog live sets for a couple of years now. the more we re happy to announce an exclusive limited vinyl edition of their „drift ep“ on nulectric reords. in case of our second vinyl-project, they delivered two synthiebased dancefloor tools which can be played in various speeds and situations. „drive“ and „cream“ are both tooly synthmonsters which are suitable for up- and downtempo purposes. greyscale supports them with an even more clubdriven techno remix as her very first release. while she went forward, tension closes the ep with a contemporary reduced and broken dub edit of „drive“.

the third release from seattle-based collective secondnature comes from archivist, with the star in a circle ep: four introspective tracks that take you on a journey through archivist s strong mood persona in the form of intricate, subtle musical landscapes and undertones. archivist explores the power of anxiety, loneliness and melancholia to compel movement, delving into the tension between internal struggle and dance floor liberation.

after the well-received * homage to the king* album by king yoof, the moonshine recordings camp proceeds with its twenty-sixth single. madplate sound, the dub production duo originally from turin and bristol, is in position for its second vinyl release featuring the lyricists jago & galak spiritual. the duo’s next single catalogued as ms026 receives both a healing remix and dub version treatment by steppas records head-honcho alpha steppa, who has recreated two masterpieces from madplate sound.

2016 sees the 3rd anniversary of houndstooth, and the label mark this with their 50th release. tessellations is a compilation of brand new, exclusive tracks from each of the 14 artists to release on the label. the release serves to simultaneously trace common threads and highlight tensions within such a stylistically expansive roster. this 12inch sampler collects four dancefloor-leaning cuts onto vinyl for the first time. the atmospheric jungle of special requests live from alpha centauri could be the soundtrack to an intergalactic chase scene, whilst akkords vector grinds gradually towards an explosion of mechanistic breaks, like an ancient machine brought to life. cant stop sees marquis hawkes dusting down the 303 for a playful yet powerful acid banger, before second storeys elephant ride draws syncopated funk from his machines in his inimitable style.

for the second part of this very special project surgeon sent parts from as yet unfinished tracks to carefully selected remixers to get their interpretations uninfluenced by the final finished tracks. the record opens with the deep, moody interpretation >bad hands< followed by a powerful, dense, aggressive mix from robert henke aka monolake

it was like a bird of rarest-spun heaven metal or like silvery wine flowing in a spaceship, gravity all nonsense now – anthony burgess, a clockwork orange after their lps “ike yard” (also known as “a fact a second” factory america, 1982) and nord (phisteria and desire, 2010) ike yard delivers their last album “rejoy” on noiztank, 2018 as the culmination of their recent years reinvented sound. as the perpetual flag bearers of the cutting-edge post-punk spirit, the nyc- based band shows muscle in a lp fully loaded with abrasive synth pads, scrap metal percussions, and whispered vocals. following the previous criteria of “sacred machine” 2017, it is worth to remark the inclusion of external vocals in the pieces “sister m” and “beyondersay”, which feature yuki osaki and maya. the nine tracks move through different atmospheres, tensions and moods that would perfectly represent a new contemporary soundtrack of the s. kubrick film “a clockwork orange”, a major influence and source of inspiration for the group this time around.

bondage music label-founders pornbugs return to the imprint this september with their ‘pacho’ ep, backed with remixes from pablo bolivar and phillipp gonzales. leipzig/berlin based duo pornbugs make a welcome return to their own label here with two new original cuts, ‘pacho’ opens the package with stripped-back drums, a bulbous bass line and choppy piano chords running alongside a bubbling arpeggio lead and tension building stab sequences. pablo bolivar’s rawmake of pacho follows, edging things into deeper territory with dropped tempo dusty drums, airy pads and an amalgamation of wandering, resonant synth lines. the second half of the release, pencilled for release as vinyl only features another original from pornbugs, entitled ’larica’ and featuring a similar aesthetic to the lead with fluttering dubby chords, a refined drum groove and unfolding atmospherics carrying the groove before label regular phillipp gonzales turns in his remix to complete the package, taking things in a more raw direction with heavily swung crunchy drums, pulsating filtered stabs and billowing vocal murmurs.

pun kuyen (moon night) is the second ep of the nguillatun records label. auca immerses us in this album with a first track, curico (black water), with a techno from the depths of the water, dark hypnotism and pulsating loop. puken (winter) is full of cold atmospheres and suspended drones that create tension. lanahue (lost soul) closes the album with a strong and intense original version, and a remix with low frequencies and beats that takes us almost to the mental disconnection, from the hand of svreca, to take our breath away.

the past few years have seen berlins frag maddin release material on waze & odysseys w&o street tracks, rough recordings and egg londons what came first as well as offering up a remix on roog & dennis quins ep for madhouse where her returns to here for a full ep featuring remixes from fellow berlin based acts black loops and kevin over. taking the lead on the package is the zauberflo&#776,te with its skippy hi-hats, hooky organ licks, hypnotic rhodes melodies and vocal cuts all further fuelled by a snaking sub-bass groove to create a slice of authentic house for one of the leading labels of the genre. black loops turns in a remix of the zauberflo&#776,te next, stripping things back to a deeper, more refined feel with spiraling, filtered elements of the original wandering around swinging 909 drums to create a groove-drive counterpart to the original. focus opens the latter half of the package, the second original from frag maddin which employs chugging square wave bass tones and dynamically evolving drums alongside tension building strings and choppy stabs before keving over closes the package with his gritty take on focus, featuring crunchy drums, dusty chords and cleverly arranged string and key samples.

discotheque fantastique is a musical collaboration that produces an eclectic spectrum of genres, somewhere between psychedelic rock, rare groove, funk and cosmic disco.

the first release is an ep with three driving tracks. the first track by discotheque fantastique -carnaval- has a percussive beat, hypnotic bassline, solid funk breaks with layers of tension. the second track by herr 2003 s -bourdonnement de l amour- is an amazing rework of a classic 70 s psychedelic rock tune with a groovy bass line, punchy female vocals and a shimmering arpeggiator synth. on the b side, club bizarre delivers an incredible extended version of a classic french cut from the 80 s.

what if music had no beginning, no end? can music exist for itself or of itself, without structure constraining it, defining it? can music be non-linear, non-narrative, simply experiential, existential? the second full-length album on mysteries of the deep, musica enterrada from portland’s william selman, neither answers these questions nor supposes them. but in listening, one can’t help but wonder: what if i disappeared into this record forever? in another time and place, william selman was known as warmdesk, an alias through which he issued a series of sharply precise minimal techno records. in recent past, selman shifted gears, shedding the dynamics of tension and release that characterized his previous alias output. under his own name, selman began releasing process-oriented, freeform experimental music on cassette-focused outlets like digitalis and hausu mountain. now comes musica enterrada, a diaphanous, weightless musical vision not unlike the theoretical square root of grm and popol vuhs early electronic forays. split into six tracks across two sides of vinyl, musica enterrada bubbles, churns, drifts, and dozes. dulcet tones pile up gently like waves on shore. patterns repeat and reconfigure, as if heard from different angles. rhythms appear, shift the frame, then disappear, into the ether whence they came. play musica enterrada on repeat. and if you disappear into it, fret not you have drifted into solace.

in their fifth release, dc label partial magic welcomes four friends and producers from the knoxville, tennessee based collective teknox. alex falk opens the record with an upbeat slammer, looping cocky vocal samples over brash, noisy textures sure to please those familiar with his sound. second on the a side, saint thomas ledoux follows with an introspective track perfect for building or releasing dancefloor tension. on the b side, nikki nair brings back the raunch with a cheeky breaks-and-bleeps acid track. dialectic sines closes out the record with an ethereal cut backed by a hypnotic, tropical electro-techno groove.

the follow up of the acclaimed first volume of this compilation, a real discovery for many djs and music lovers worldwide who didn’t know that much about zouk or diy electronic music of the french west indies. the selectors julien achard and nicolas skliris continue the excavation of french antillas vinyl from the 80s and the 90s and for this second volume, they found some really exciting new references which should be soon classics on the dancefloors.

hybrid techno tracks full of tension on time to express number 30, presented by label founder peter van hoesen. the belgian producer takes up the opportunity to expand upon his previous work on the coast to coast ep. no longer exclusively restricted to straight 4/4 rhythms, van hoesen s music investigates hybrid, broken grooves infused with a clear sense of spatial sonic awareness. this is made clear with the first two tracks, towards manifestation and fox tactics. on the second half of the ep van hoesen launches two solid techno cuts, shifting from dense bassline work (concrete varition) to percussive, shuffling grooves (fox tactics). as with all previous time to express outings a specific i ching hexagram was chosen to accompany this release. hexagram #10 ( treading upon the tail of the tiger ) refers to advancement with care and ways of respectful progress. the title of the ep is a direct reference to the first line of this intriguing hexagram. nine at the beginning will be released on vinyl and digital formats on october 23rd 2017. a specially designed t-shirt will be made available at the same time, interpreting hexagram #10 through its design.

xixa balance ep (apa002) abstract places audio elusive producer xixa delivers the second abstract places audio release. balance is a three-track ep where the co-founder of the label packs a solid techno sound drowned in complex and evolving atmospheres. as first label’s release (clip - gebre, 2016), this is not a 100% club record, we can hear ambient and idm influences, but a1 and b1 are perfect tracks to keep a techno set full of rhythm and tension, and will get its place on any dj record bag. a1 balance is built around a distorted but controlled techno beat. patiently, a wide palette of drones and other-worldly artefacts are growing next to carefully crafted percussive sounds. 1984 opens the b side of the 12”, with a 4 to the floor overdriven bass drum and a reverse reverb announcing its main synth sequence, accompanied by organic hi-hats and clap sounds. a collection of ethereal drones and noises is also used, giving the track a sense of cohesion and gluing its different parts. life inside a snow ball is xixa s personal take on ambient. some of the drones and artefacts from a1 are now mixed with new quasi- harmonic emotional textures and subtle noises emerging from a deep unknown space and forming a complete new sonic experience. balance ep is a very solid second release by abstract places audio that confirms the label sound and philosophy.

the following three-tracker release is one of those that are about to take you on a very clear ride. we will start with some tensioning and rising loops and will keep you up while the swiftly vibes are getting to you. with the first composition on a side, alex won’t give you a break - it’s a one breath composition where you don’t have any time for a second thought. when it looks like both chunky bass and kicks are going away - a very sharp-shaped and acidy synth will remain on the watch and will ensure the continuously driving thrill. getting to the second part of this side, what can we say, straight from the beginning a thick bass line makes it’s introduction in order to lead you into some awakeness on a early morning on the dancefloor. stepping into the game, diferit on the remix for b side is bringing you a blend of both tracks you’ve heard before. very rich in vibrations of different spectres and proveniences - from very clear and clean kicks to a bouncy bass line to the very zippy and zappy sounds of his unique style. the pleasure of having these two minds behind the second release of aforisme is ours.

moscow rolls through with a collaboration from founder archie hamilton and musical genius benson herbert, from kerri chandler’s protege duo, voyeur. two original tracks, remixed by the legendary 100hz. the record opens with the wonderfully trippy systim. a driving bassline, barely recognisable vocal snippets and groovy organic percussive elements dance around a haunting piano riff that ebbs and flows throughout the track. tension builds until a second acid bassline is finally revealed, causing dance floor madness. next up herbavibe combines a big bassline, dreamy chords, hamilton’s trademark 303 and a catchy vocal hook to create a certified summer anthem. 100hz uses the entire b side to interpret system into a more classical workout, using the piano elements to their full potential and using minimalistic percussion to keep the listener enthralled. an after party gem that completes the package perfectly

originally released in 1999, the cultish reputation of the mysterious blindboy s sole offering to the world has attained it a high second hand value, and so archeo recordings have done the right thing and actioned a reissue. ruckus in lo fi is steeped in balearic guitar tones, downbeat hip hop cuts and forays into sumptuous jazz funk. there s also a remix from joe morris, who fashions a brooding, epic remix of -i dream- loaded with simmering tension without losing the funky warmth of the original. with all kinds of mellow pouring out of this one, any stone cold chillers out there won t want to sleep on this one.

the second album from basic house takes a sober turn towards the thematic intersection of occult knowledge and globalised black operations, brokering a piercing anxiety throughout from the tension between the scale of the politics being invoked and the familiarity of the covert identity tactics to music cultures, subcultures, and the like.

the second release on figure jams continues to pursue our new concept of pairing certain artists together, this time placing the seasoned swedish sound sculptor patrik skoog alongside abstract division, a collaborative project of paul boex and dave miller, two equally experienced dutch producers. the latter deliver a pair of straight-forward tunes that seemingly stem from the depths of space. with an intimidating backdrop of menacing and rummaging drones they carefully create a constant sense of alarming tension that is never lifted. this abstract threat takes solid shape in patrik skoogs slamming -the field-, a heavy hitter of immense magnitude that despite packing a bouncy punch still stays afloat thanks to its lightly dancing hats. another agile alien grooves closes the ep, with rides zooming in and out, slingering and cutting through the tracks subtly booming body

eric cloutier launched palinoia last year with a single of his own, but now he s turned to berlin mainstays exercise one to lay down some of their trademark psychoactive machine music for the second installment. heptagon sports metallic synth notes clanging out over a freight train of techno drums, while prism takes a more nimble approach to twist out its various synthetic squeaks. nitrogen is a warmer proposition, placing the emphasis on chords and melodies while still aiming squarely at the dancefloor. thirty four finds the duo veering away from the 4/4 dogma to deliver a captivating kind of broken techno in a soundscape loaded with tension and ominous empty space.

best works records label-owner andré lodemann is back with a new long-awaited ep on his imprint. it is the 20th release on the label. for this “birth” ep andré personally enlisted non-other than swiss duo adriatique for their remix skills aswell as new-comer producer fabian dikof. andré’s track “birth” creates contrasts using african-drumming inspired styles paired with techy-beat pro-gramming. starting more on a minimal tip the track works its self up to high-tension climaxing with an emotional break keeping the deeper moments intact. adriatique created a faster more club-orientated ver-sion paring the more hooky parts of the original with beat-sythn elements giving the track a more tribal feel. the second remix featured here come’s via fabian dikof the second main artist on best works records. it s great to have him remix andré lodemann at last presenting his masterful skills. fabian took a different path in his remix working more on the melodic hook but also creating a warm bass-laden soundscape that loves the dance-floor in its own right.

2017 is set to be a defining year for the addictive behaviour imprint. over the past few months the label has truly found its sound and is dishing it out relentlessly in the months ahead with multiple parties lining up alongside some boundary pushing music. their second release of the year sees the predominantly tech-roller outfit return to vinyl ventures with a 3 track wax ep of epic proportions, mysteriously titled new age myths .

for the labels ninth release, deep a & biris black crow records revisits one that helped establish the labels direction back in the imprints first year. bcr003, insular realms by fellow israeli producer hakimonu, was praised by many including resident advisor, who said the ep proved his off-kilter take on techno and house is as vibrant and inviting as ever. now in 2017, deepa & biri have invited mind against, luigi tozzi and echologist (aka dub techno veteran brendon moeller) to all rework the original version of insular realms for 2017. first up are life & death’s mind against, with one of the fognini brothers most direct techno productions yet, with a mid-track moment of calm before the intensity resumes. luigi tozzi, the rome-based producer who has had previous outings on dynamic reflection and dino sabatinis outis music, contributes the second remix. taking the lead from the originals more ethereal moments, his version is dreamy & almost wistful as it propels along its shaking rhythm. the b-side offers two takes from brendon moeller in his echologist guise, with a dub mix that twists the original into an acid-inflected track that slowly ratchets up the tension over its seven minutes, while the reshape breaks things down into a churning rhythm peppered with flashes f off kilter sonic details.

definitive tech house talent nick curly is back with the first of many exciting new releases for 2017. entitled amnezia, it comes on 8bit, his most long running label, and packs a real punch. by now, curly has a refined signature sound that keeps people dancing all over the world. his productions continue to come on esteemed labels like truesoul, drumcode and hot since 82’s knee deep in sound, and he remains an in-demand remixer as well as busy dj who plays everywhere from ministry of sound to timewarp mannheim to warung beach club. also keeping busy with his own events series trust, this german tastemaker has never been busier. the standout title track is a robust affair with tightly coiled drums, slick and funk inducing hits and lots of building tension and masterful release. it is the sort of locked-on groove that keeps floors pumping for days. the excellent ‘second lick’ is less physical and direct and instead goers deeper. it is riddled with emotive synth lines and has train track drums and perc that you simply cannot ignore. with rich and rubbery sub bass propping up the whole thing, this one is sure to make a mark. this is another landmark release from nick curly that is sure to be the sound of the spring and summer to come.

the young roman artist emiliano morini, hidden in the shadows, reaches his individual project second goal. after debuting with his first ep in the electronic music scene, which also included a collaboration with ed frimann (an already known character of the roman scene) emiliano shows increased maturity through this refined and elegant work. a not necessarily dancefloor oriented straight cash, combined by extremely pleasent sounds, makes his last ep also usable for a home listening session. the ep consists in 4 tracks, each one clearly mirror of a sensitive and deep soul: -deep fusion- is a high tension piece with a submerged but impetuous roaring bassline. -ocean- that could be almost called a jazz track, full of human presence because of a seem live played ride and a lead that sounds like the result of improvisation. on the b side, we find instead a slightly more -club- dimension, without anyhow the loss of musicality. -techno mod- is a tribute to the best acid techno surrounded by an amniotic sea of pads. -vinyl track 2a- portically closes the work with loads of hypnosis and melancholy sounds enclosed in the same box.

axpin debuts with its ep „gilgamesh“, including three deep house tracks and a first floor remix of mastermind christian burkhardt (cocoon, oslo, cbsessions). it smoothly combines multifarious arrangements and arousing melodies with a forward pushing club sound. suitable for the dance floor as well as the afterparty at home, this ep transports the listener to a faraway world of subtle grooves, pushing drums and mesmerizing sound design. „gilgamesh“ is a track based on the story about the journey of an ancient emperor, searching for enlightenment in the highlands of mesopotamia. so it comes as no surprise that a driving beat breaks through the laid back percussions and hypnotizing atmospheres. wandering through this track side by side with mysterious pads and exotic sounds, a lost but defying melody accompanies the listener on his steps. „catiba“ is a track with a multilayered arrangement, that doesn’t necessarily reveal its complexity on the first look. different rhythmic moods provide the structure for two melodic lines, competing at first but working perfectly together after a thrilling break, melting your soul. they’re supported by a pervading deep bass groove that will make your body vibrate.&#8232,,christian burkhardt summarizes both tracks’ features and unifies them in an impulsive club remix that floats every second and climaxes in a thrilling break. dry but playful, perfectly fitting for the dance floor without losing the warmth and lightness of the original. „kryon“ is the ep’s third and most expressive track. starting with lost parts of a melody, rather an echo in the vast distance, the track continuously increases its tension, extending the rhythms until the arrangement blasts out a stunning break that, contrary to all expectations, is a calm and compassionate moment with a transient theme. the clear production provides a place in the mix to each sound, a deep moog bass rumbles in the basement while the stimulating percussion coats

jeff rushin presented himself as one of the biggest icon of functional effective techno, this second ep in the catalog is going further on the sonic spectrum. tension all over.

avid sequence is a young fresh artist from malta. his music can be intense and energetic with that hint of tension as we can hear in the three tracks he kindly produced for the label. label owner hail blk remixed the second track(bermuda), giving it a grittier approach with his usual trademark percussive elements.

since its beginnings, fracture has followed the formula of releasing upcoming and interesting newcomers, people they believe in, to get them remixed by more established artists. this time its none other than uk techno legend james ruskin stepping up to the task, for a track carefully crafted by berlin based artist leiras. leiras comes from madrid, and has in the last few years since his move to germany released a handful of eps, mostly on his own ownlife imprint. abyssal is a trippy and atmospheric cut, the kind of deep techno that can transport you into a second state if dropped at the right time. on remix duty, ruskin makes it weirder and grittier, slowly and skillfully building the tension from atmospheric to potential peak time material.

coyote deliver a standalone ep for clandestino s second release with the brooding, acidic fight the future and summery live jam engineered garments. fight the future caters for a ride through the club. tweaking 303s and bells weave their way round a dynamic 808 rhythm track while the dubbed out fx and melancholic spacey keys reign in the tension, eventually swelling and breaking over a subtle voice pad.

having lurked around murky corners of the grubby industrial techno realm for the past year or so, pavel milyakov builds on his rapidly swelling discography with this transmission for public system. it s the second release on the label following a strong opening salvo from dj spider and greypeople, and this 12- offers up further forthright club-wreckers that balance taut functionality with production flair. opening cut -strainn- delivers bludgeoning electro from the netherworld, which ekman then dutifully reworks with an added eerie tension. there are edgy arpeggios aplenty on -trance t- and warmer tones in -augusts 13-, rounding out an essential slab of serious techno tackle.

ethimms second ep when in dark delivers the groups signature tension music with moods oscillating between suicidal heartbreak and conciliatory optimism. in the opening track why (a cover of the rhythm and sound classic), producer elisabeth thimm sets the stage for guest singer veronique to mourn love s loss, while brian gimmel s improvised piano licks hold strong agains the songs relentless bassline. the follow-up track late features lexx s dreamy lyrics gracing a subtle dance foor tune for spaced-out souls. the b side opens with ethimms love for dub. next is a freaked-out meditation on what has been and will be, while the fnal track done slowly creeps towards its peak, refecting on dark days where light may have not been much in sight, but going forward sees optimism, increased resolution, and drive.

benedikt frey s arresting out of here was the second entry of our blanc series. originally a vinyl-only limited release, now the track gets a fresh new treatment in the hands of two mainstays of european techno: roman flugel and simon haydo. flugel s cosmic disco drama rework lives up to its name, maintaining the noir disco spirit of the original track but infusing it with tension-building sequences and strings that give it an extra mischievous twist. our favorite frankfurter also straightens the rhythmic skeleton and adds shuffling shakers to make it a relentless dancefloor weapon. haydo s remix delves into a more dismal terrain, transforming the vocals into haunted echoes, adding esoteric synths and topping it all with razor-sharp percussion in what sounds like a storm of ice asteroids falling into a lake of steel. the 12inch comes in a beautiful sleeve featuring an exclusive illustration by barcelona-based artist pau lopez and design by arnau pi.

berlin duo soukie & windish are releasing their second long-player work ‘loom’ on their home label ‘ursl records’ this coming may. an album for the moment, looming its way through our moves with its dreamy, escapist moods. loom carries accents of dirty micro-pop while managing to be both upbeat and deep simultaneously. it is an album of tension — pushing out through every carefully selected drum and every distant, distorted synth line. it marks the moment when you decide not to go home.
