ikeaboy is the intermittent project from damian tubbritt, who first debuted the moniker more than ten years ago. it s been a long while since any fresh material from this deep cover curio of oddball techno hit wax, but now wicked bass have done the honourable thing and gathered up this excellent trio of tracks. shape memory plies a funky line in squelchy bass and jangling delay trills, while living in the future opts for a more mysterious, pad soaked trip into spooked out electro. on the b-side dayna sports some forthright drum machine beats and epic sweeps of synths that only serve to confound any expectations you might have about the sound of ikeaboy.

brand new glastonbury production duo speakman sound team up with frankie forman for the palliative psychedelic dance stylings of latest single warm. warm follows the breakneck success of debut single in flight which became a top viral track on spotify while being touted by key tastemakers including 6music’s lauren laverne, radio x’s john kennedy, soho radio’s eddie temple morris and radio 1’s huw stephens, monki and phil taggart. the latter commendations led to the brothers being offered a slot on the bbc introducing stage at glastonbury for a ram-packed homecoming. brothers todd and guy, the duo behind speakman sound, spent their childhood in the glastonbury area immersed in music through their father, a guitarist in psych-rock scene including bands such as hawkwind. growing into adolescence against a backdrop of rave culture in somerset shaped the psychedelic tinged future bass sound they create in their studio in north london today. warm is a sonic embrace, a trip into the uterine comforts of music. a rolling kick drum structures it, ostensibly four-on-the-floor, but with syncopated fibrillations, the sound of a heart skipping a beat. with frankie forman’s brilliant, mantra-like vocal and tobie tripp’s sweeping strings, warm reminds us of the comfort we find in music. enveloping in its beauty, it’s the latest majestic entry into speakman sound’s unique and beatific body of work. that the speakman brothers are producers in their own right should come as no surprise. having received a start-up grant for a studio in cricklewood, they have built an artistic hub from scratch and are surrounded by a creative coterie of young musicians and talented artists practicing across film and music in north london where they hold regular late-night jams and parties.

this record, and the full 2xlp that will follow it, are dedicated to and inspired by events in 2015 & 2016, which saw the spectre of global crisis come knocking at europes doorstep. during this time, more than a million migrants and refugees fled their homes in the middle east, northern africa, sub-saharan africa and other conflict ravaged areas in search of a better life. for many, hopes of a future for themselves and their families lay in continental europe. while the reasons for such displacement, on a scale unseen in almost a century, are many, so are the reasons for europe being seen as the ideal destination. the relative peace and calm of the continent and the prospect of building prosperous lives in western europe was enough to mobilize multitudes to embark on the treacherous journey to europe. one of the most well-trodden paths on this journey was the balkan route, a trail leading through turkey, greece, and the former yugoslavia. this route was not without its dangers, and the dreams of many were dashed by impassible security fences and discordant eu politics, as one by one they were turned away at borders, or worse, forcibly returned to their countries of origin.

europa is the first single that represents the seed of discontent, from which the 2xlp grew. it was recorded during long jam sessions in belgrade as the media spotlight started to dim. the city became the purgatorial destination for a large number of migrants, whose journeys had been cut short and this record reflects the atmosphere of disillusionment and uncertainty about the future, which descended on the serbian capital.

hudd traxx first release of 2016 comes from parsian house don chris carrier after the label had a big year in 2015 with their 10th anniversary. back to business then and no messing around on this one as carrier delivers 4 slices of gloriuosly crafted house music with something to please everyone. cycle psycho is a raw house groove that filters the main hook up and down throughout the track accompanied by heavy beats reminscent of early cross section releases. dimension 5 is a cheeky acid number that carrier has done so well in the past and he delivers here once again with this. flip for the b side and find more groovy head nodding material with smoke and flesh. tough beats and a trippy vocal with various hits make this one a sure fire future hit. chris rounds things up nicely on b2 with a sleezy deep one for the heads entitled flying sausage.2016 looks set to be another good one for hudd traxx hq.

daniel steinberg and front room are like annoyingly sexy couples that you end up in the next hotel room to on a company business trip. except of course daniel steinberg and front room dont actually have sex they just literally make sweet music together. the spiciness continues with the preacherman ep, daniel steinbergs fifth release on front room recordings. punctuated with the exotic and the kind of twists, bumps and energy that only steinberg can provide, preacherman kicks off a cacophony of funk fuelled head nodding to get any party pulsating. “you need love” with its in-your-face vocal, huge beat and sleazy decelerating breakdown has future classic written all over it. the long awaited tiefschwarz remix of “lucky sauce” also sees the light of day here in full effect and breathes a new layer of ‘wow’over a release that is only really just beginning to simmer down from its release in june. wonked out groover who stopped the music rounds proceedings off nicely on an ep that is audio proof that the stroke of his talent only gets more precise and dazzling with every release. daniel steinbergs releases are supported by the likes of ricardo villalobos, luciano, claude vonstroke and richie hawtin to name drop a few. watch this space for daniel steinbergs artist album coming out on front room in 2010

the tracks on this new 12 inch build on the momenetum, with two tracks of stripped down dancefloor killers - >yeah!< is a monster builder, all todd edwards style swing and tight edits with crazy deep kicks, chopped up vocals, old school piano stabs, soaring strings, and hands in the air breakdowns. already being played out by drop the lime (check his latest exclusive mix for fact magazine where he opens his set with >yeah!<). >head work< on the b side is on more of a masters at work/harddrive era tip - deep garage beats tripping over themselves, burbling oddity synths, shuffling snares and the weirdest vocal melody breakdown/build-up ever!
the originals are complimented on the 12 inch by two remixes - tvo takes yeah! to another dimension altogther with a head destroying 140bpm hardcore junglist remix. on the flip, san franciscos eats tapes take >head work< into the wonkiest area of minimalist techno, showcasing their totally unique take on future groove.

the third instalment of the apres vinyl series explores the indie disco dimensions of future classics 2 year old sunday afternoon session in sydney. when we commissioned gemma smith to produce four artworks for the series this angular and intense piece sat well with the spiky hot chip meets junior boys disco punk funk of melbourne 3 piece clubfeet. it also worked with adelaides sidwho, another promising newcomer whos recent 12inch on cage & aviarys the walls have ears imprint got rave reviews from horse meat disco, mock & toof, tim sweeney and optimo to name a few. millionaire is an early taster of the pop sensibilities of sids forthcoming solo album with future classic. sids also a member of the modular signed live disco act the swiss. chad and nathan took some time out from the future classic hq to turn in a remix of millionaire together with good friend bryan o callaghan who also happens to be head chef at the tilbury where aprÞs is held. bryan quickly became a firm friend of future classic after mudd and aeroplane were booked for sets at apres with bryan seeking us out, immediately impressing us with his unparalleled knowledge of rare disco and groove. last but definitely not least (since it made the a1) came pink frosts remix of evening star by another local sydney band todd sparrow. after a heavy vinyl digging session at redeye records,the stores vinyl buyer scott, handed nathan a cdr and the call was made then and there and we had our third apres release - an intentionally all australian installment!

francesco baudazzi, aka obtane, quitquitequick and sammy bellafonte was born 27 years ago in la spezia, a city of north italy. with his new label project zooloft he got positive feedbacks from people like andre crom, staffan linzatti, arnaud le texier. frankie, mossa, matt tolfrey, todd sines and the first zooloft release is supported by magda and troy pierce. future stuff under different monikers on new german label bretzel, equilibria records, synewave and leftroom’s sublabel left of centre.

jeder einzelne der 13 tracks ist auf seine weise uplifting und angenehm, besonders wenn przygoddas lebensgefährtin geka winkler ihre wunderbare stimme beisteuert wie in den tracks cliff und drive. ebenso gelungen ist der unglaublich zurückgelehnte, aber dabei null kitschige saxophonlastige introtrack when you step und die vergleichsweise rockigen tracks two for future und a rockets nightflight, in denen man dann auch die prise punk entdecken kann. zum schluss bekommt man dann mit home of the wishes noch eine perfekte hymne, die zu praktisch jedem happy end der filmgeschichte passt, mit auf den weg.

lurifax aka peter visti is known for his love of balearic music. peter is now signed to eskimo recordings where his first ep >balearic love< was a favourite with djs such as todd terje, prins thomas and superstar dj tiga. following on from >balearic love<, mindless boogie released peter visti edits of >jolene<, which went on to be a balearic smash throughout the summer of 2007 and got playlisted by rob da bank on bbc radio one. now peter adopts a new guise as lurifax to drop his debut release for spacetalk records. >afro beach< takes the listener back to the glory days of the balearic scene of the late 80s and early 90s driven by a mellow groove and some choice recorder and accordion parts with hints of detroit in the bassline. on the flip, >need someone< is trademark peter visti, a languid mid-80s throbber that takes in a wonderful guitar solo. a worthy third release to follow on from the success of spacetalks first two releases from kaine and future beat alliance

after many years of waiting, treble o present the release of the highly sought after domu production by nicola kramer best in me.the sample string and strong melody see the rhythm section chilling a little, but the shuffle kicks in on the chorus, lifting it from a head nodder to a foot shuffler. included in this single is the hottest remix around at the moment by mr dego ranks and kaidi tatham, publicly known as dego and kaidi. here kaidi and dego fuse subtle keys with chunky beats that glide wistfully under nicolas haunting vocal. the bumpy groove gives it the dancefloor edge whilst its deep musicality gets the hairs standing on their very ends. trademark sounds from both artists in their own rights, a certified future classic

the father father remix takes you on a hypnotizing trip inside your bleeding soul. worgull isolates two single lines of oezlem cetins soulful sermon and creates a deep and dark dub version with many references to detroit and old school chicago. a future classic which shares the same vibes as henrik schwarz rework of walk a mile in my shoes. on the flipside is a nice reinterpretation of are we? by tony nwachukwu (attica blues), another friend of the karma boys, which features michelle amadors sweet vocals over a minimalistic detroit flavoured techno jazz excursion keeping the odd waltz time signature of the original and flipping the tune into an atmospheric future shuffle
