the electrifying final album from cameroons legendary los camaroes, available on lp for the first time since 1979. recorded live to two track at the mango bar in yaounde, resurrection los was the last collaboration between bandleader jean gabari and groundbreaking guitarist messi martin. deluxe lp reissue features notes on the history of the band by original keyboardist mbambo johnny cosmos simon, plus all new interviews with producer nicolas mongue and engineer emmanuel guyssot.

wenn sich musiker wie sufjan stevens, bryce dessner, nico muhly und james mcalister für ein album zusammentun, ist die welt natürlich nicht groß genug. auf ihrer einspielung -planetarium- vertonen und besingen sie deshalb unser komplettes sonnensystem. die idee zu diesem konzeptalbum schwirrte schon etwas länger in sufjan stevens kopf herum. konkret wurde sie allerdings erst, als die konzerthalle muziekgebouw in eindhoven nico muhly den auftrag zu einer komposition erteilte. sofort dachte er an eine kollaboration mit seinen freunden dessner, stevens und mcalister. doch nachdem man das stück gemeinsam fertiggestellt und aufgeführt hatte, legte man das junge projekt erst einmal auf eis. im anschluss veröffentlichte bryce dessner mit seiner band the national -trouble will find me-, sufjan brachte sein album -carrie & lowell- heraus und nahm anschließend mcallister mit auf tour, und muhly komponierte ein violinen- konzert für die metropolitan opera. schließlich kehrten stevens und mcalister 2016 mit einigen songskizzen zurück ins studio, wo dann richtige stücke entstanden, die mit den mitteln von prog rock, elektronik und indie durch das universum schweben.

this is a rare gem of a record from fantastic soul band the soul kids stemming from the democratic republic of congo, including covers of james brown & the mighty flames hit singles -lickin stick- (1968), -papa s got a brand new bag- (1965), wilson pickett’s -hey jude- and a french vocal version of otis redding’s soul hit -respect -. this amazing young band, which released only four 7inch singles and one album, is a great example of the influence of soul music and french pop bridging to the new afro soul scene that the musicians of kinshasa were involved in during the time of post-independence. ngoma was one of the first record labels intent on providing local artists recordings from both sides of the congo river to the people of the drc and west africa. created in 1948 by a greek man by the name of nicolas jeronimidis, the ngoma label was active through 1968, pressed in france until 1971, with a tremendous catalogue, including this historical and essential soul masterpiece!

with the second release noland tracks moves from nigeria to poland: non human persons saturn melancholia is an early song of the polish band based on guitar & voice + processor, recorded in warsaw some years ago. with their remix gebrüder teichmann turned the song into a sacral techno anthem. a deep and dark trip with nico in the heart and mdma in the blood. the b-side features the original track plus a beautiful hand carved image by brenda alamilla.

obbatuké are an 8-piece rumba group from santiago de cuba, lead by renowned quinto player carlos guerra. the band are mainstays at the casa del caribe, widely regarded as the epicentre for the eastern rumba scene.
rumba is a percussive-led genre descended from africa which was formed when mixed with spanish influences in the ports of havana and matanzas.
as innovators in the genre, obbatuké have been a huge inspiration to the manana project, and were involved in collaborations at this year’s event with plaid, quantic, nicolas jaar and london based breakthrough act, ariwo. this particular session was recorded at castlesound studios in edinburgh on the band’s first trip outside of cuba. it features three different sub-genres of rumba and an extended yoruba bata piece called orun seco.

bon voyage is an ever-shifting constellation of musicians led by paris-based producer and bass player adrien durand. durand was first spotted in 2009 by jamal moss, boss of renowned chicago label mathematics recordings, which released durand s solo effort (impersonnel naviguant) under the moniker les aéroplanes. that first record, done using a very academic house music setup consisting of an eight-track cassette recorder, a drum machine, a cheap analog synthesiser and an even cheaper sampler, caught the attention of such dj s as beautiful swimmer and toby tobias. for his bon voyage project, durand recruited drummer nicolas ballay and keyboard player/engineer maxime kosinetz. while opening for legendary italian dj daniele baldelli, the band caught the attention of chicken lips s steve kotey, who released bon voyage s first two records (sorciers des aéroports, l imposture) on stendec, a new imprint created for the occasion

afro was our first international release, and our first attempt to bring afro-peruvian music up to date in the same way as nicomedes santa cruz and others did decades ago when the fragile existence of this music was fading. we were very satisfied with the result, which is raw and acoustic but at the same time electronic. dark but soulful. deep and haunting at times. we are joined on this album by some of the finest afro-peruvian musicians on cajon, guitar and vocals giving every song a live feel and the album includes additional production on all tracks by nitin sawhney s and da lata s studio wizard toni economides.

die geschichte von -ton steine scherben in dub- begann vor 20 jahren. nach zwei aufsehenerregenden kompilationen des damals noch jungen labels echo beach, die ein schlaglicht auf das britische und internationale dub-schaffen der mittneunziger warfen, sollte sich -king size dub volume 3- auf deutschland konzentrieren. neben den toten hosen, fantastischen vier und nina hagen dachte man dabei auch an die scherben. so kam es zu einem ersten treffen mit r.p.s. lanrue, dem ehemaligen scherbengitarristen und musikalischen nachlassverwalter der band. dadurch landete eine version von -mole hill rockers- auf dem sampler. und dann passierte erst mal nichts mehr. bis labelchef nicolai beverungen zwei seiner dub-spezialisten, nämlich fe wolter (dubvisionist) und alexander hornbach (aldubb), zu einer weiteren zusammenarbeit mit r.p.s. lanrue bewegen konnte. jetzt wurde es konkret. obwohl für die scherbenwerke keine mehrspuraufnahmen vorlagen, gelang es den dub-archäologen, die essenz der stücke in exklusiven mixen zu erhalten. nur punktuell wurden durch overdubs spuren ergänzt, verstärkt oder tiefer gelegt. so entstand, was keiner für möglich gehalten hätte: ein dub-kaleidoskop aus den scherben des westberliner klassenkampfes. die vinyl-lp ist auf 999 nummerierte exemplare limitiert und erscheint inklusive album-cd.

acid pauli and nico stojans ouïe label acts as home for left-of-centre music from disparate sources - somehow connected by a thread of hedonism with a melancholic edge. welcoming kerela dust to the imprint, this four tracker showcases the different dance floor shades the label always reaches. kerala dust are a london based trio that owe as much to tom waits as they do to four tet or dj koze, but somehow tread a fascinating line between genres and moods. mixing jazz, indie and the sharper end of the club sound, francescas frames is the perfect introduction to their vibe. ‘maria is augmented with a thick, mid tempo kick and sparse, effective percussion. the clever vocals provide the topping - showcasing the bands pop writing prowess. the track will appear as a single release on 6th aprila accompanied by a music video. acid pauli and nico stojans remix picks up the pace a little, while dubbing out the elements into deep, late night dance exploration. ‘nyla brings a new vibe, deep, pulsing synths and a bubbling baseline accompany the crisp, compressed rhythm track before eds iconic croon arrives to take the track to a new level.

gnawa is a uniquely moroccan sound with roots in islam and links to a healing ritual called lila (arabic for night). from this heritage comes innov gnawa, the only new york-based gnawa group made from moroccan natives, led by the mâalem (master) hassan ben jaafer. in 2016, pique-nique recordings presented their debut ep together and, since then, the band have also featured on bambro koyo ganda from bonobo s latest album. aicha is their much anticipated follow-up. alongside the joyous call and response between the maalem and the group that s common in gnawa, there are also hints of electronic programming interspersed between the traditional live instrumentation no doubt an influence of nicolas jaar collaborator dave harrington who produced the ep.

the new record offers up a pair of killer synthpop gems which, in the words of the bands’ mark vorderhaus “drift into the arena of the unwell with their latest outing “in the hospital garden”, and pose the curious questions: is it so unfortunate to surrender your mind to a permanent altered state? can losing oneself irreversibly to a manipulated insanity, actually prove to become a rare and wonderful freedom? attraction battles control as the transformation completes itself. the b-side, “transformation” depicts the liberated insanity without challenge, now thriving and pulsating beyond the point of any return.”

frío y vacío is a band based in méxico city, formed in 2015 by the prolific angel kauff (vocals, guitar, synths, drum machine) and jon gil (bass, drum machine). angel also created his more synth orientated stockhaussen and isotropía projects, jon is also half of the identik fact project, the other half being his twin brother jeremy key who in turn is the guest vocalist in frío y vacío s song autodestrucción . what frío y vacío do is a reflection of their name, meaning cold and void . they have been influenced by different music genres, from post-punk and goth rock to cold wave and synth punk, all with a classic 80s sound. the lyrics are a consequence of kauff s personal experiences and feelings. the music, a maelstrom of fast rhythms, sharp guitars, thumping baselines, everything to create an oppressive atmosphere, charged with a high load of electrostatic power that is released in almost every song. pure, dark energy. note: limited to 265 hand numbered copies - comes with download code and lyrics insert
