yoruba records welcomes back label favourite mike steva with a well-balanced and forward thinking ep that both engages and pushes boundaries. opening up with ‘love symphonik’, this stutter-stepped jam practically drips with mpc flavour. up next, ‘the message’, a bold proclamation with more straight forward percussion. with added balkan flavour this one is as deep as they come. this is followed with ‘sila’ where steva’s chops are on full display. this engaging and well-constructed groove conjures of feelings of celebration, one that’s easy to imagine taking place in the streets of macedonia. we close with ‘zensko oro’, a deep and moody percussive-led jam. this one speaks of movement, slowly building on itself and reaching a natural climax that enhances and delights the senses of the astute listener. sit back, relax and enjoy this soon-to-be essential piece of the yoruba records canon.

next up on baum is no other than mike schommer of deepchord fame who is back after a 15 year break, with a three track ep. his first release after his break was out on steve o sullivans mosaic records, and now his second one is released on baum records. mike s sound does not need any introduction, the music speaks for it self, but one thing to say, dub techno does not get any better than this!

chubby has already earned its stripes as a podcast and party in australia dealing in connoisseurs deep house, and their leap to the world of vinyl is no less classy. the first release splits a 12- between four esteemed practitioners of true skool beats for switched on heads, leading in with antipodean maestro ewan jansen. after delivering the plush tones of his -plants,- moods & grooves label boss mike grant pops up to remix jansen with stunning, understated results. trinidadian deep takes over on the b side with the typically shimmering melodics and dextrous drums he s much loved for. mr yt then serves up a final remix, nudging -move me- just a little up the energy scale with the help of a killer organ line placed at the front of the mix.

the new mic label launches with some previously unreleased and unheard material from uk diy jazz funk maverick, mike collins, or more the brains behind that spacey loft classic, rude movements as sun palace. mic presents a small archive of collins material (recorded around and after the time of rude movements) and reveals the more experimental side of collins production. five tracks that explore early, proto-house music, electro and fascinating drum machine observation. essential issue!

as mosaic reaches release number 40, steve o sullivan dives into another studio collaboration with his new label mate and expert hand, mike schommer - bringing in the talents of rod modell on remix duties. etching two slices of dub heavy grooves that cover either side of the techno and house spectrum, their first effort emphasises the former on title track -submerged- (b1). it doesn t pull any punches - precision moulded bass takes centre stage around evolving synths and classic delay action. their 2nd -depth charge dub- (b2) leans more towards the latter as the duo focus on the combination of a rolling sub, laidback percussion and subtle stabs that cycle gently around. the cherry on top comes in the form of rod modell s -deepchord s negative-space exploration version- as he takes a 9 min trip to the hinterland of his sonic imagination, elegantly finding new layers and spatial effects. call it what you will, dubbed out house with a splash of techno or dubbed out techno with a splash of house - this is heavyweight material.

systemrmx01 is our first full remix release consisting of five tracks reworked from any of the previous releases. we took a unique approach on this project and made all parts from all tracks available to mix and match as the artists saw fit. heavy hitters ben sims, dustin zahn, and drumcell all contributed great interpretations. enjoy!

a second release for londons future primitive records brings to the fore a new hand-picked selection of hard to find if not overlooked tracks from wolfgang voigt, dj guy and fernando corona, aka murcof. all of the music to feature on this four-track recast ep was previously subject to tape or cd only release. lifted from his only album as love inc., wolfgang voigt s income sits primo as the a1, holding firm 22 years after its original release. predating voigt s work as gas, its caustic chords, shimmering melodies and chilled 90bpm vibe render it a production borne from the classic dub techno blueprint of the early-to-mid 90s. an early take on slo-mo techno. the dat tapes of dj guy have again been raided, with future primitive joining a select cast of followers to rejuvenate the englishman s productions with an edit that appeared on his tape for crisis urbana. both b-side tracks botas de oro and secondary inspection theme come from murcof s one time terrestre alias, a project from the earl 2000s which fuses textural, slow-motion and minimal house sensibilities with mexican banda and norteno music aka nortec, a micro-sub-genre to come out of tijuana. loose percussion, swung drums and winding rhythms are made all the more esoteric through the subversively climactic nature of terrestre s music.

on 7th august the godfather mike dunn presents an ep fuelled by a pumping heart of pure house, entitled ‘dj beat that shhh’ / ‘move it work it’. taken from his forthcoming album due for release in october 2017. both tracks capture mike’s essence, placing his trademark hip house booty style vocals and stripped-back, jacking drums centre stage. ‘dj beat that shit’ is classic, bumping 90s chi goodness updated with modern technology, whilst ‘move it, work it’ is a no-nonsence smoke and strobe throbber, that recalls the best of trax and dj international. for anyone who knows their shit, mike should need no introduction, but for those that don’t, he was highly influential in birthing the modern day dance music phenomenon, especially with tracks like ‘face the nation’, ‘god made me phunky’, ‘let it be house’ and ‘personal problem’. mike created hip house, dj’d with fellow legends ron hardy, larry heard and armando gallop, produced for house heroes armando, fast eddie and k-alexi shelby, and worked with the iconic voices of byron stingley and kym english. after a long absence from djing in europe, mike returned in 2015 to rock crowds at panorama bar, fabric, concrete, sub club and glastonbury, demonstrating why the chicago og is still very much in demand.

mike lundy was born and raised in nu‘unau, on the island of oahu in hawaii. from an early age, lundy s original compositions caught the coveted attention of herb ono, the legendary owner of honolulu s sounds of hawaii recording studio. in 1980, lundy recorded a solo lp entitled the rhythm of life. unfortunately, he spent so much money on production that nothing was left for promotion. it went nowhere upon release.

the finnish kitkatone and berlin based labelowner mike wall have created a four track strong ep from the sleeve with -ears burning-! rough, industrial techno in its best form. kitkatone is one of the makers of the label kova and is known for his techno show -maanalainen radio- at bassoradio. have fun while listening. mastered by alhek mastering.
