it s hard to believe an entire decade has gone by since claude vonstroke first released who s afraid of detroit but believe it or not, we ve reached the 10 year mark of one of the biggest hits of claude s career, and we felt its about time for some fresh takes on the track that helped launch vonstroke and dirtybird. for 10 year anniversary, we tapped into the motor city s outstanding talent pool and enlisted an amazing lineup of detroit artists to help us celebrate. besides claude vonstrokes brand new 2016 remix, we also included mixes from techno icones octave one, minimal techno pioneer marc houle (windsor is close enough!), and the accomplished trio visionquest. not limiting the detroit based artist package to just the music, the haunting release artwork comes to us from michigan illustrator dan may. in addition, a dark david lynch style music video comes from award winning detroit director, anthony ernest garth. whos afraid of detroit remixes,will be released on the 10th anniversary of the movement festival in what city? detroit, of course.

born in sao paulo to a deeply religious family, laercio has been around music all his life - amidst the challenges of daily life, his adventist parents would whip out all sorts of instruments whenever the situation would allow it, introducing a young and curious mind to a wide range of musical expressions. it should come as no surprise, then, that our hero quickly felt at home with notes and bars, choosing the flute as his first weapon of choice which he eagerly studied from the age of seven. even later non-musical career choices always reflected an infatuation with the world of sounds, like his stint as a capoeira teacher, combining martial arts, acrobatics and dance. with such a multi-faceted background in music, the inevitable tinkering with synthesizers and other means of electronic sound generation was rather a question of time than one of ambition, and sure enough we find laercio roaming the parties of the mid-noughties, absorbing the unique melange of styles and scales that inform club culture to this day. in stark contrast to most other rave inductees at the time, however, he never wanted to become a dj: his area of expertise is the performance, not the collecting and curating of other people s releases, and it shows in the unusual fact that laercio has held club residencies as a live electronic musician in venues like sao paulo s the edge without ever so much as touching a record. in these release l_cio has worked with d.o.c. mastermind gui boratto. and the result is music for the dancefloor.

the second release presents a new front left artist – daito (lenny jäzosch). daito is the japanese term for different kinds of swords, used by samurais. this describes his sharp and detailed sound without the lack of emotions & soul. being a regular raver, his productions are dance floor motivated, containing special moments that can be felt when you are dancing to it. his influence comes from an earlier style of techno with a raw and inspiring sound. on the b-side, you will find elad magdasi – a regular front left raver who debuted on the first release(finger trip ep). his style is classic, diverse and 90s influenced. elad is returning with two different types of techno creations.

after a five year absence the illusive cottam label returns. since the original series paul has travelled the world djing, released on labels such as aus & versatile and started his own imprint ruff draft for his own original productions and tracks from other producers. currently taking a break from djing & concentrating on production it felt like the right time to reactivate the label that started it all with some new under-the-counter specials. first up we have ‘mixing tool’, a heavy beat and percussion setting the dark & foreboding tone, the unease increasing like something is creeping up behind you until the distant war cries reveal themselves - a deep track that is much more than the title suggests. next up, the long awaited vinyl release for the cottam re-wiring of a classic film title track, mixing the best elements of the originals synth score with a club ready beat and acid that adds to the original - this is one of the finest carpenter reworks you ll hear.

great debut release and new label from a rubadub shop regular featuring tracks from shop regulars. tip. this first release is made up of 3 tracks from my friends and 1 from myself. there’s no concept here other than putting out music that was otherwise not going to see the light of day. the first track is by bleaker who put out a 12inch on unknown to the unknown last year, the second by miz aka big miz whos been putting out music on dixon avenue basement jams, the third by the burrell connection who has a release on west end communications and a track on a craig knows released compilation and the last track is from myself which got a play on big mizs boiler room set. these tracks were all sent to me around the same time and it felt right to make a place for them on a record. bleaker, miz and the burrell connection have all been making waves in scotland and beyond and these 3 tracks are proof that the attention is warranted. and i dont think my track is too bad either.

kevin saunderson s kms imprint is a label that should require no introduction. the motor city label has been a techno mainstay since it s inception in 1987. numerous detroit luminaries have released classic after classic on the labels hallowed grooves over the last 25+ years and its influence is still felt in contemporary dance music today. the idea behind the kms origins series is to shine a light on the lesser known cuts in the kms vaults as well as the classics that have given the label it s legendary status during its lifetime.

following two ep releases on delusions of grandeur the time felt right for thatmanmonkz to get working on his debut lp. the sheffield b-boy is no newcomer to production having been releasing music since the mid-noughties but has seen a definite rise in interest the last few years following essential releases on his own shadeleaf label as well as remixes and productions for the likes of classic, kolour ltd and kon’s startime.

soooo here we are with the tenth and final release, thought it would be nice to finish on a nice zen like number, so this is a extra special release kind of a mini lp almost -opened up by fx mchn flush the trush is an intro to the comp and a reverse funk skittish affair next up is new man on the block for us here we been sitting on a collection of his tracks but felt this one complemented this ep the most, ecco foul, gloss is a sleazy machine groove that does t do much but thats just the way we like it .then comes mr facade with his jerky funk sweet surprises and warm melodies. the b side is opened by another newcomer from running back record hugh mane new age dawns whose track come s deep and wide open has to be heard on the headphones as well as the club jamie blanco s chord arrangments get opened up and spaced out by lht office boy toby tobias in a detroitesque ditty thats been used to open a few sets in 2015 already and finally alphonse delivers an out and out machine jam with the usual dub influence brought in vocal fashion.

the italian serves up 4 tracks of analogue proto-techno. the style can be defined as techno of an esoteric nature with elements from 90’s warehouse material mixed with vhs horror movie aesthetics. moans, groans, whips and desire can be felt throughout the record with a lustful theme running throughout. violet poison s trademark post-punk aesthetic and industrialism are in fine form for 007 with shades of rhythmic noise, experimental dark ambient and power electronics. full printed sleeves.

heralding from brighton, married (production) couple sam and tracy presented classic with some music classic was very familiar with. not only is sam a member of the legendary gramme, but has also featured on a number of past luke solomon originals for classic…so are already part of the extended family. classic immediately warmed to the music and the music already felt at home. looking for the right remixer begun - classic played the tracks to long-time member of crazy p - a certain mr basejam and immediately leapt to them and remixed not one – but both of the records on the ep as he loved them both so much. the result is a meeting of minds sounds and words.

cologne based artist adryiano has finally threaded into label managing waters. ever since the emerge of his multi functional platform cestraw back in 2011 adryiano has been twisting and thinking on when to launch the label side of things. after the humble success of his latest *down south* effort on soul notes it felt like the right time.
cr/001 turned out to be an emotive dance floor record that touches several different modes within the spectrum of underground dance music. from the straight forward 303-anthem *break module* to the uplifting yet deep, chicago-ish tones of *path of yours* - adryianos *default ep* is set to unfold just in time for the cold, dark days before christmas.

groove line records are proud to add to their 2015 releases of half-speed mastered re-issue singles with both the extended special disco version and instrumental version of earth wind & fire s 1976 funk bomb getaway gracing each side of a 180g 12” virgin vinyl disc. looking to gain on his groups critical and commercial success from the early 1970s ew&f s main man maurice white brought in the legendary charles stepney, who had tutored him at chicago s chess records in the 1960s, as the co-producer and arranger on their incredible 1976 album spirit, which opened up with the formidable funk track getaway. co-written by guitarist, vocalist and songwriter bernard “beloyd” taylor (s.o.u.l.) and songwriter peter corbelenky around the theme of escapism and self-fulfilment, the primal urgency of getaway was the ideal composition for white to record with ew&f. white felt the song s energy and positive, uplifting lyrics matched the attitude and ethos of his group perfectly. as a result ew&f created a funk gem both musically and lyrically perfect for the dance floor.

jack cutter is a songwriter and guitarist based in the san francisco bay area in california. he started with a $5 banjo just after finishing high school. in university, during the late 60’s, he performed with bar bands in buffalo, new york. after completing university and a year as an aerospace engineer, he decided that attack helicopters were not really what the world needed and so he headed off to california in pursuit of music and mystic times. fast forward to fall 2014: jack is playing his quintessential tune, ‘gift of our fathers’ in the sf bart subway to an onslaught of morning commuters when he was spotted by 40 thieves. eureka! love at first sight and in the next few months, two of jack’s original acoustic pieces were given the 40 thieves treatment. enter david sanderson aka david harks, a singer, songwriter, producer and label curator from the east sussex region of the uk. ‘having fallen in love with the cosmic boogie (of 40 thieves classic ‘backward love’) i really felt i would love nothing more than to write a tune with them. layne got back in touch with a track he was working on entitled serpent strut with jack cutter and we worked via email over a few months to brew up that misty soul.’ deep, stony, psychedelic, drawing from the well of hawkwind, joni mitchell, david crosby, baffo banfi and tolkien-tinged acoustic led zep, the proof of concept is now complete and in the capable and loving hands of claremont 56.

having debuted on valcrond video label last year with the immured 12- under her familiar xosar alias, sheela rahman now returns to the platform for some shared make-believe with founder luke wyatt for new project body tools. taking a catalogue number as its title, this two track 12inch follows a succession of body tools radio broadcasts on berlin community radio and showcases a softer, more hypnotic side which in the case of lead track locusts & lions hits hard when the poignant piano makes its presence felt. brave channels a strange, modern kosmische vibe that will really hit the spot deep in the mix.

2015 repress. its been four years since my last own ep on stockholm ltd. the main reason for this is that i have been surrounded by music that has inspired me much more than my own. this ep was written and produced with strict narrow frames and a huge amount of frustration. i was tired of waiting for the inspiration to kick in, then suddenly it appeared with a strength that i havent felt for long time. im now curious for more. while sketching the title track, >wyatt arp<, i couldnt get detroit legend, terrence dixon, out of my mind. terrence is a long time hero of mine, and an artist that always stays on the true side of what we do while most of us occasionally leave our paths. i had to ask him to do a rework. / par grindvik

>cissi moon changed my life! it was in a now refurbished part of stockholm in a futuristic cafe/club called holger that i had my first encounter with loudly played club music. the night was called db and we lined up with our fake ids every saturday to hear cissi moon spin drum & bass records and let the bass engulf our beings.< >at the time the art of making electronic music was totally alien to me, i could not for the life of me work out how to ever make music that carried the same emotional and physical impact as i felt on that dance floor. i have spent the last 17 years or so trying to get back to that state of being at one and completely lost with the music.< this record concludes a trilogy of eps by peder mannerfelt on his eponymously named label. what comes next is everything and beyond.

carl finlow could be regarded as one of the cornerstones of not only 20/20 vision, but also of british electronic music. his boundary pushing, electro-tinged productions under the random factor alias make for essential 20/20 listening, as does his work as 1/4 of 2020soundsystem. while this year has been about looking to the future of the label, we also felt it was important that we looked deep into our history and revisited one of our all time classic records: random factor – broken mirror. on the a side carl has prepared a new ‘revisted’ version for this release and this is accompanied by the original version from 1999. for the remixer we thought long and hard about someone we felt would be suitable. someone with pedigree in the electro scene, who would feel as passionate as we do about making this release something truly special. there was only really one person we wanted and luckily when we contacted legowelt he was a big fan of the original track and was super keen to get onboard the project. we hope you enjoy these two pioneers of the electro scene going head to head x

one of detroit’s most relevant names in modern techno “terrence dixon” joins the modularz roster of producers with his debut ep that features both his terrence dixon name and his alias population one on the same ep. terrence dixon submitted this ep to modularz a couple months back and said to us that he had something special for the modularz label - with the intention of releasing a well balanced ep with deep grooves, stripped down rawness and funky hypno rhythms we felt this would be a great addition to our catalog. we are very pleased to present this release and continue to show our range and our diversity in the techno genre

chmara is an artist better known for the duet chmara winter, which created a number of releases for pets recordings. currently he is producing by himself and joining forces with otake records. *spring* has its unique position in the catalog of young label from warsaw. the vinyl is original, surprising, flourishing and simply beautiful. some herberts or dj koze inspirations can be felt, however, a solid character of these tracks gives a clear understanding that chmara has his unrepeatable unique style that can not be faked. lyrics, wonderful chmaras timbre plus accompanying female vocals give an image of surreal order. it is a beautiful, harmonious hallucination caused by nothing but music. the record also contains two remixes from slg and piotr bejnar - the owner of otake records.

very limited 2015 repress! all inn records have already proved to be massively popular with the biggest names throughout 2010, and their latest release is set to increase yet again, the buzz surrounding the romanian imprint. all inn s fifth installment comes from the turin sensation that is rills... having grown up in the shadow of italy s motor city in the heart of mirafori, in a city of non stop musical turmoil. it was the beauty of the electronic melody that first snared rills. in the mid 2000 s the national and internationally renowned promoter xplosiva spotted the young blossoming talent and enlisted him as resident. since that time, rills has shared the dj booth with the worlds finest, as the likes of ricardo villalobos, carl craig and akufen have all felt the heat of his burning hot warm-up sets

the second loveit press comes right in time for the festival season and for dusty basements too. suolcity is a young producer from stuttgart, the spot for house business again. probably he felt it already as intern at rocker 33?, the club such as panorama bar and robert johnson. how else could you explain the b-side rush, you had to feel this dubby, gritty bassline. not hard enough - so maybe rush harder, you can have it all.

on their 2013 debut album voyage, l.a. duo de lux introduced their singular sound, a fusion of post-punk, disco, funk and synth wizardry. fun though voyage was, described by the guardian as -intricate, witty, inventive, dazzling and by dj mag as fresh, immediate, for their follow-up, de lux felt compelled to add an element of social commentary to the mix.

with record store day upon us once again, quantize recordings felt it only right to unleash a killer ep to the world boasting exclusive edits from 2 of the biggest names of the scene - danny krivit & john morales.

a couple years ago developer created a modularz sub label named - developer archive - the idea was to slowly release tracks taken from his personal collection and specifically made for his live dj sets. through developer archive these tracks are now being released in a limited amount and the chosen selection are the ones that developer felt made the largest impact in clubs and venues around the world.

on the leading edge of nycs underground music scene, vito ricci produced only a handful of self-­released cassettes and one lp between 1983-1985 with most of his work being recorded for experimental theatre and performance art pieces. taking their label name from vito riccis only lp, music from memory brings together a compilation of works by one of the unsung heroes of new yorks downtown music scene.

there are two front-cover artworks on one record: one by stefan marx, one by alex solman info: back in 2012, benjamin brunn played a heartbreaking ambient liveset at the almighty golden pudel club, hamburg. his set was recorded and released as a cd on pudel produkte. as it was the perfect soundtrack for the lazy days at smallville recordstore, we all felt the urge to release this on vinyl- and during a blurry smallville night at pudel, we decided to do it. benjamin cut out two parts of 20 minutes each and here it is as a limited recordstore day 2015 item. there are 2 front covers on this fullcover sleeve- one from stefan marx and one from alex c.i.a solman, the king of pudel-related artworks and mfoc.

somethings happening in the eastern part of france, some analog boogie vibes were sent to the ccb camp and we felt obliged to release them on our next white label 12inch in the series.

having written the infectious theme song to the chicago party television series, we felt necessary to bring the pianist/composer into the foreground for his own proper two-parter. this very demo of -rush- made it into the hands of charles davis, who re-recorded the tune for a stray single on sutra records in 1982. included on ultra-high frequencies: the chicago party, -you bring me up- is completely unreleased and represents the pinnacle of early 80s r&b from chicago.

so the story goes: a few years ago i played a cool underground party in stockholm with my good friend and crazy record collector mark seven. early on that night mark played me this beautiful and melancholic piece of music. mark happily handed me his spare copy and my record collection for a second felt a little more complete… originally released as a b-side track to als slipshod ep on out of the loop the track continued to mesmerize whenever i played it and the fact that so many people loved it and equally as many didn’t know the record i though a re-release could be a great idea. it’s inclusion on gerd janson’s recent sonar kollektiv compilation and the fact that it’s been played by legendary dj harvey ( o bearded one as he’s known to by the initiated)has obviously helped to spread it’s fame to. now hopefully showing it’s full potential we bring you the remastered “lullaby for robert” with a whole bunch of remixes made with love by remixers spellbounded by it’s magic. on part 1 we bring you : the original + bogdan irkük remix part 2 will include reworks by mark seven, gatto fritto and yours truly toot toot beep beep,

the third 12 inch sampler taken from lukes unfinished business compilation series, this time featuring a lost dub of the nails classic hurt u featured as part of the kittens single back in the year 2000. nail is enjoying a fantastic and deserved renaissance at the moment and will felt it was high time let this baby loose. this is followed by another lost gem from the wonderful tak label. the last unfinished business compilation featured the timedwellers and now it’s time for collis king, look out for some unreleased gems to be featured on an ep from classic later this year. number 3 is the tripped out vocal classic from sandee - given some modern day remastering business a record that has proven to be totally timeless - and a stalwart at luke and kenny hawkes legendary space nights at bar rumba. and finally - lukes very own stop the riot - the first single he recorded with sam lynham from gramme championed by the likes of skream on radio one and nemone on 6 music - we felt the single deserved its very own place on vinyl.
