ivory puzzle – dj krust a straight up banger from dj krusts -cloaking- bass era. like many tracks from the time, it s working simplicity was it s defining factor. a very hooky arpeggiated intro and breakdown and an unrelenting drum and bass workout, the track steps up a gear getting more intense every sixteen bars taking the dance floor on the musical equivalent of a nitro fuelled sprint down a drag strip.
flip it – dj krust a futuristic roller with sampled funk breakbeats reminiscent of -true stories- and -soul in motion-. like many of the krust and full cycle releases this was a tune screaming to be mixed with others, it s unexpected drum edits and fx popping in and out making it impossible to tell when one tune ended and another began. the resonating b-line always sounded huge on a rig and paved the way for a myriad of future generations of bass ideas. quite a rare tune, only krust, die and bryan g had this on dubplate.

one half of the junior boys, jeremy greenspan makes his second appearance on jiaolong with the aid of none other than legendary, algorithmic composer, laurie spiegel. those not familiar with her work, spiegel is best known for her use of interactive and algorithmic logic as part of the compositional process, spiegel worked with buchla and electronic music laboratories synthesizers and subsequently many early, often experimental and prototype-level music and image generation systems. in the mid 80s, her most widely used software was the music mouse. here, greenspan works her piece >drums< into a confident dj tool, rolling steadily with angular electronic effects over a solid, weighty pulse. >sirius shake< employs a classic kompakt-style schaffle beat, mapping a curious robotic waltz.

originally released in 1999, the cultish reputation of the mysterious blindboy s sole offering to the world has attained it a high second hand value, and so archeo recordings have done the right thing and actioned a reissue. ruckus in lo fi is steeped in balearic guitar tones, downbeat hip hop cuts and forays into sumptuous jazz funk. there s also a remix from joe morris, who fashions a brooding, epic remix of -i dream- loaded with simmering tension without losing the funky warmth of the original. with all kinds of mellow pouring out of this one, any stone cold chillers out there won t want to sleep on this one.

with spring well and truly in the air and party season in step, mosaic records boss steve o sullivan launches mosaic s 38th release - joining forces with fellow londoner frazer campbell for a new studio collaboration. not content with letting the dust settle from his recent work alongside ricardo villalobos, o sullivan has stayed a little closer to his london home to work with frazer campbell for this latest tag team effort. a dextrous hand in the mix and producer in his own right, campbell has a passion for all things that sit on the deeper end of the house, techno and electronica spectrum. in his own words, thought emoting music is central to his mission having launched open recordings and elliot project records last year: a worthy sparring partner indeed. since the start of the year, the pair had their heads down focusing on finding a happy medium between deeply swung grooves and the airy influences of detroit - shaking out an interesting trio of tracks for their label debut. far from treading the obvious path, the main event a1 hypnotonic revels in a lighter touch as metronomic beat programming cycles endlessly to a held set of notes. off-kilter bass pulses, warped out vocals and effect splashes all intersect to keep the energy input constant as they capture one of those less frenzied moments where the very notion of time seems to hold still. make no mistake, this is a slow burn vibe. head to the flipside b1 soultonic to plunge yourself straight into hip twitching mode when the lights go down. a deep chord, syncopated hats and deftly tweaked synths echo as a full dose of shuffle inflicts its move. simple yet so effective, this track will not let you down. winding things back up a touch, the tougher edge of alleyway funk pushes the feeling on thanks to a thumping kick and a deft nod towards uk garage. met with a soft glisten of a rhodes piano and tweakish melody, the pair round things off in a boyant mood - fans of soul capsule and schatrax will no doubt agree. repeat play of this ep is recommended as its all the more rewarding for it.

danish composer the swan and the lake is at it again with his trademark widescreen soundscapes wrapped around eight new tracks of exquisite scandinavian balearica. with the release of his first album -moments- last year on copenhagen’s music for dreams, we were introduced to a unique artistic vision. with one foot in the ambient chill out spectrum and the other in everything from classical avantgarde, idm and jazz, the music of emil svane breum under his alias the swan and the lake is both very accessible yet complex. on his new album -clouds- we see him expand on those same ideas and with seemingly simple means achieve extraordinary strong emotions. opening side a, the jazzy intro of -fresh food- leads us into a sublime piece of hazy ambient groover that could easily be mistaken for a lost 80s production from japan. -clouds over Østerbro- keeps things playfully cool and adds elements of scat singing and xylophones, layered over breum’s shimmering bright chords. while the title suggests we are still on danish soil, this feels like a five minute vacation to a tropical paradise. guitarist johan liepstack makes a guest appearance on -summer in december- which comes off as an understated anthem that could break out into euphoria at any second, but manages to stay in a sombre state all the way through. on the track -plastic pacific ocean remake- we are visited once more by airy vangelis-like vocals which assume the role of a nurturing angel, guiding us to a comforting state of relaxation and healing, as breum lays down an overwhelmingly beautiful synth serenade with chords that hit you right at the core of your most vulnerable state. flip over for the mallorca inspired track -port d andratx- which comes in two versions - part 1 (sun) shines like a perfect escape into that cafe del mar/ hostal la torre sunset while the more deep and melancholic part 2 is aptly named rain. the gentle trickling of -waterfalls- sees breum mimic the eternal cycle of water, creating an organic and ethereal composition that stretches out seemingly without beginning or end. and finally on -heaven’s voice- we see breum in his most epic and emotional mood, as he steers us through a slow explosive force of cinematic sounds. it all ends with a heartfelt spoken word contribution by guest vocalist neonbi.

he s bbeen a player of many years with groups such as ub40 aswad dub band ruff cutt just to name a few. he and his brother formed the band matic 16 to which the horn section is called matic horns. as a horn section they played on many reggae recordings for producers from the uk ja usa and europe. he has in resent times produced instrumentals for his own label hfp (homefront productions) that has been released 1.lucrative and 2 aba-ariginals as well as producing dub plates to the big sound systems such as aba-shanti-l channel one jah shaka and sound systems in europe. he has now taken to dub step with one of its biggest producers coki in bringing the horn to the electric digital sound with great success, new to the scene and new to both artists. this is an extension of bringing the sound of trixx to the club scene.

hyperdub+ warp records artists babyfather and gaika rework two 18+ tracks from their second album collect. hyperdubs dean blunt, a category-rejecting artist and an art-pop provocateur tackles drama under his babyfather guise, looping a low slung swagger beat under the vocals of dj escrow and samia mirza. warp records multi-disciplined south london artist gaika rips apart glow into a discordant sub-low bassline drone, pitching samias vocal as slow as can go, harsh high pitch tones and field recordings. one of the strongest things we’ve heard from the divisive producer.

3 of shadow child’s connected collaboration album tracks get a makeover from rimbaudian, mj cole and bodhi. rising talent rimbaudian reworks the only solo track from the project, steak fingers, and takes the original bumping stripped back groove on a more melodic journey with its stunning arpeggios and new string parts. the backbone of the original remains but be prepared to take a trip to a new stratosphere, with his stripped version which is included too. bodhi step up next to remix gacid, twisting and turning the original acid patterns and grooves to make a special rework that gives a nod to early detroit with new drum programming and pads. the welsh duo bring the heat. mj cole delivers what must be one of his finest remixes. um the collaboration with bodhi, already offers a trip that flirts with jungle, lo-fi and the hypnotic but mj cole brings his signature vibe to the table with new keys, groove and provides something that feels as if it belongs in the realms of his seminal hit sincere.

oraculo records looks to the past in very few occasions and monomen deserves to be one of the exceptions. the norvegian band momonen released back in 2007 one of the best electronic post-punk albums of the beginning of xxi centurty on trust me records, not only for the music quality but because all the band members had only 19 years old at the time. suddenly the band gets dissolved after only 1 ep and 1 album. now, 10 years later, oraculo records proudly recovers the best tracks of their album (+1 one of the previous ep) on a record that will be very searched and valued. all tracks mastered and remastered specially for vinyl by eric van wonterghem at prodam studio (berlin).

after one year of hiatus ritual process is back with a brand new opus. côme the other half of the label first appeared in 2011, thriving on the musical radicalism and avantgarde of the electronic and industrial scenes of the 80/90’s. kerri lebon, the owner of discipline is actively involved in the san francisco s musical scene. she has mixed the -issue no five- cd for jealous god and recently produced a remix on los angeles based label stellar remnant. our third ep -years of decline- opens with -between generation-, an epic trippy track followed by the punchy noisy -expel the demon-. the b side will take you to a shadowy world with the original version of -fear- followed by kerri lebon’s astonishing remix. the record will come with an insert and will be limited to 300 copies.

before boogie funk had a resurgence in 2012, ruckazoid was dropping rare funk albums in 2004. his demos were floating around la, but it wasn’t until 2009 that breakbot remixed ruckazoid’s original “life’s fantasy”, which was later released in 2011 as an original track titled “fantasy” on ed banger records. fantasy became a breakout hit scoring a #1 single on itunes. in 2013 when daft punk released “get lucky” featuring pharrell, funk was officially back in the mainstream. those in the know knew breakbot & ruckazoid helped rekindle the funk flame worldwide. after all, the label ed banger is headed by busy p, and busy p managed daft punk. suprinsingly, ruckazoid did not tour with breakbot, opting to stay in the studio to record more albums. amazing lover being one of these albums, with love game becoming the lead track.

a few years ago, melodies family members floating points and dj red greg got their hands on a couple of original 70s obscurities. while these standout records shone brightly in their own right, the two djs saw the potential to create their own edits behind the scenes, finely attuning the original versions to modern-day dancefloor standards. of these new recordings, they cut only five copies for themselves and a few dj friends of theirs. today, melodies international is very proud to bring you mel006 and mel007. fully licensed, lovingly mastered to the highest possible standards and carefully edited to dial up that dancefloor enjoyment, these two æyouÆre a melodyÆ classics werenÆt originally meant to get official releases. but due to popular request, they are now available to play and share in very special moments at parties around the world. mel6 arrives as a 7-inch, with the original version and the edit on the flip. first released in 1979 as a three-minute up-tempo library recording, ôdisco baby-, one of 10 tracks off a record available to license for film, radio, television and other media, held some hidden magic that would only get uncovered almost four decades later. informed by years of combined dancefloor experience, floating points and red greg have slightly tweaked the original material, realising that played in the right context, it can become a true disco anthem.

it s now time for one of resopal s current crop of exciting young producer teams to get a step up: the two producers debut on the label with a 12- ep entitled fresh trax. this is a versatile ep with three different tracks in the fields of house that have great range, and more than enough skill to pull off many different tricks.

for the fifth instance in their reissue series, echovolt records brings us four lush house gems by one of the most influential italian producers. carlo troja aka don carlos. don carlos started as a dj in the late 70s and debuted as a producer towards the end of the 80s with the cult single alone , which pretty soon became one of the anthems of the international deep house scene. inspiration ep focuses on some of his finest productions from the mid 90s that were only available on his rare aqua vinyl promo ep. this releases makes an effort to capture don carlos unique approach on classic house with lot of afro-american jazz sounds and ambient influences, that created a timeless deep jazzy house with a strong mediterranean twist on it!
