tunnel signs is the nom de plume of australian born lover, fighter and romantic, ash moses. with a taste for playing and producing records that embrace the darkness, moses parts the sea and finds the wonky middle ground between reverb drenched postpunk, hypnotic techno and spaced out disco. having previously seen releases on labels such as nein, clouded vision and hakt he now finds a home with cutters records with this 12inch with will buck. the release, titled spirits came into existence when ash relocated to new york city, a place he had long dreamed of from afar. as luck would have it he found himself sharing an apartment with another likeminded electronic musician named will buck who became his studio-partner and eventual collaborator. having bonded over a shared love of synthesizers, drum machines and all things rhythm they soon began their own freeform jam sessions which paved the way for this 12inch release. spirits shares some of the slow hypnotic swagger and dark disco drone of red axes and multi culti but with a futuristic percussive palette of the likes of four tet. the heady modulated elastic synth sounds give way to deep undulating bass patterns and tribal percussion. on the flip, the lights get turned out and the acid turned up with an ominous techno rework courtesy of hivern discs own marc pino

british deep house veteran sir lord commix is the latest producer to hand over dats of forgotten late 90s studio sessions to the team behind for those that knoe. predictably, they ve chosen four great cuts to release. first up you ll find the elastic synths, alien melodies and fizzing motor city percussion of early tech-house style shuffler -pieces of dream-, before the p-funk-influenced uk-us garage fusion of -leroy garage- takes us in an altogether breezier direction. flip for the jovonn style synthesizer melodies and groovy garage rhythms of -new jersey-, and the electro-inspired intelligent techno dreaminess of -destiny-.

australian label nightime drama, run by peter fincher (aka vibrio) and shaun franklin (aka trebek) now serves up its second standout release of 2016. this four track affair comes hot on the heels of the last by yoshihiro arikawa, and is a second release on the label by aussie live act, dj and producer trinity, with steven tang and italian based andee on the remix. trinity has also released on ooc, coincidence and android muziq and regularly performs all round europe. his sound deep and cosmic, heady and hypnotic, as the fresh tracks here prove. cascade drive is seven minutes of direct and elastic house with spacey pads and driving drums carrying you through the cosmos. from the earthmothern label and one half of rk s, andee strips it back to a slick rubber kick drum then layers in a forceful acid line and icy hi hats to really get you under its spell. the longform groove is physical and cerebral in equal measure. the next original is expansion, and again finds trinity serving up a hi tech and soul infused deep techno sound that is lithe and liquid, smeared with great pads and truly timeless. emphasis boss steven tang is the perfect man to remix given his style, and his version flips the cut into a more heavyweight and banging techno effort, but one that is just as littered with sci fi sounds, spaceship trails and intergalactic energies.

finish techno pioneer and dum records boss kimmo rapatti aka mono junk and melody boy 2000 is back with another fine ep of some of his greatest tracks. all three have been released before now, but never all together on the same ep. a1 sound stealer was released in 2007 under the melody boy 200 alias and since then has been hugely sought after, often fetching high prices on discogs. it is a high impact techno track with racing drums and chattery percussion that will take any floor by storm. a2 all alone, again as melody boy 2000, has only been released on cd before now, as part of a label compilation back in 2002. this one is deep and rubbery, spaced out and elastic and is full of moodiness and melody. both b-side tracks were written as mono junk and both were written in 1992. first up, apache acid came on vinyl own music man and is a face melting, hundred miler per hour banger with manic 303s buried within. finally, ‘beyond the darkness’ was a key early techno track to come from finland and has previously been released on dum010. says the artist of the track, “an ensoniq asr-10 arrived on the market and studio engineer perttu bought it right away, but i never liked to use sounds that someone else had made. we sampled the track’s bassline, strings and others from my jx-3p separately and mixed it all together.” the result is an atmospheric track with swirling pads, icy synths and form drums that will make people march, no doubt.

given that cocktail d amore s first entry into the re-edit arena, cockring d amore, landed almost a year ago, this follow-up is long overdue. whereas that ep featured a trio of reworks from the extended family, both tracks on this solid 7- (snigger) come from berlin-based dj/producer trent. he begins with the cheery european disco of -the acrobat-, where prominent horn lines rise and fall over slick funk guitars and shimmering strings. flip for the cosmic disco-meets-cosmic rock masculinity of -the fool-, a killer fusion of elastic slap bass, eyes closed guitar solos and occasional blasts of glam rock vocals. whip off your t-shirt and get to it (dancing, that is).

the new vinyl-only record label modeight continues to expand the influence of east european underground dance music. silat beksi is well known for his tracks that pump the best afterhours worldwide, and also for his plentiful creative collaborations. three tracks were prepared for the ep together with the immensely talented musician durrrred from germany. “over” immerses us in a cold dark techno atmosphere. “afterglow” brings you out of the darkness so that you can see the infinite beauty of dawn at the sea. the elastic bass line of “inception” pulls you into the dense vibrations that captivate you and won’t let you leave the dance floor.

bakk lodges sfv acid with a double deal - a 12 inch (doep) with deep n dark electro vibes and a 10 inch (jazzchamber) for the smooth and elastic funk. both come with the unusual sfv acid touch. it comes in two screen printed inner sleeves packed in a plastic sleeve with a chrome sticker - conceived by the bakk cartoon cartel.

keeping with the rough release rate of an album every couple of years, prime numbers label boss trus me is back with his fourth full length, planet 4. featuring nine cuts of intergalactic techno and once again marking a considerable sonic evolution for this acclaimed uk artist. never one to do the same trick twice, david james wolstencroft uses his latest album as a vehicle for his own interest in deep space, physics and dark matter. it is those subjects that have occupied his mind in recent years, and those subjects that inform this brilliantly otherworldly album. where previous lps have variously been funk and soul heavy, or openly analogue and physical, this one is a more subtle and supple techno affair that is as cerebral as it is seductive. starting with a monologue that suggests that man has already landed on mars, 1979 is a cut that immediately places you somewhere in orbit. spooky synths and sci-fi sounds are eerie and atmospheric and very much set a perfect tone. from there, there is slow, elastic and unsettling mood music on the unexplained , deep and insular techno on dark flow and trippy dan bell style minimalism on ring round heart . the second half of the lp touches on chunky dub, manic and melodic grooves. this is a coherent statement that holds together conceptually and musically. as well as providing plenty of dynamite for the more discerning dance floor, planet 4 is also a delightfully detailed affair that will work just as well on headphones late at night.

jami bassols has been a close member of hivern since its beginnings as one half of aster. now, following the release of noche/ templo, his two acclaimed edits for nvh, he returns to the label with his solo debut as jmii. in thrills, the barcelonian producer displays a sound that s equally raw and lively, with a very personal sense of quirkiness. the title track is jmii s most expansive production to date. an uplifting house number built around an elastic bassline and sprinkled with a bubbly arpeggiated melody, echoed vocal snips and ravey pads. bailar is a sort of lunatic take on chi-house, with a crude bassline, psychotic organ chords and feverish percussion coming together to form an ultra-infectious groove. tightbrass follows a similar path, but conducted by frenzied synthetic horns that bring to mind a marching band of manic robots. in his remix, comeme s christian s. brings the track to a darker territory, reducing it to it s core elements and focusing in a nasty bassline that will for sure cause serious damage in the dancefloors in the upcoming months.

after his exciting album elasticity on his own imprint elastic dreams, a sagittariun delivers the equally fascinating three track oxidize ep for german label couldnt care more. while heights is a stripped-down basic-channelish techno ride, rough, edgy and with a hint of hypnotic melodies, the title track heads in a quite different direction: still its raw expressionistic techno, but the flow is ever-changing, mesmerizingly shifting and twisting between hissing beats and enlightened synths. for the remix of oxidize golden pudel club resident and odd-house virtuoso rvds fires up the acid machine and does it detroit style, warm and cold, uplifting and melancholic.

in the space of two short years shlømo has quickly established himself alongside the likes of marcelus, bambounou, francois x and the antinote records crew as a key figure in paris’ current techno generation. having established his own taapion records label in 2013 and built a roster around a core of local producers including roman poncet, pvnv and antigone, in addition to enlisting stephen brown, conforce and sterac as remixers for the label’s releases so far. for its fifth release, bright sounds - run by fellow parisian kennedy smith - revisits last year’s rechaïm ep (bsrx003), with a trio of remixers offering their own takes on shlømo’s established deep and expansive sound. first up is the aforementioned 50 weapons artist bambounou, who offers a dynamic groove-based version of the title track that bounces along an elastic kick drum with cut-up fragments of the original’s atmospheric pads providing further impetus. label owner kennedy smith takes on theory is the worst by bringing its dub textures to the for while filling the track’s empty spaces with intricate drum patterns. finally, italian techno pioneer donato dozzy turns grounded queen into a classic dozzy slow-burning techno trip, with his trademark layered sound complimenting the track’s subtle rhythmic backbone.

constant sound founders jon woodall and burnski helm the label s latest 12inch under their constant name, with dub life featuring remixes from blackhall & bookless, s.a.m and a scott. dub life is a slithering, slippery and frictionless house roller with tunnelling percussive patterns, restless drums and myriad synth smears that really pull you down into a seductive groove. subtle vocals add character and ensure this one will keep floors locked for days. jaunt pair blackhall & bookless then step up with a fired up, peak time techno leaning bomb with barrelling kicks, ravey stabs and detroit referencing pads that really grab your attention. the s.a.m. reshape then offers up elastic, spaced out deep house vibes with airy hi hats, lots of height in the drums and plenty of feeling in the slithering synth lines that lace up the track. closing out the package is a remix from returning label artist a scott, whose fine remix is a lovably flabby and cavernous track with oodles of reverb, rattling train track like grooves and atmospheric pads that swirl all around you as you drift in his air beats.

can t joke with dexy is the opener here and is a bumpy, edgy house cut with tense and nervy keys jangling above a roughshod drum line. it grows ever more dark and comic and things roll on before faith is a more breezy, airy house groove. the drums here dance a nimble dance, thin synths and emotive chords all come in rich layers and a lo-fi percussive line proves how frey can conjure up idiosyncratic sounds with ease. like its title suggest, ghosts is a hauntingly atmospheric track with icy hi hats, pixel thing and hugely melancholic chords and harmonic bells all adding a sense of calm and serenity to turbulent drums deep down below. lastly, scale is a sub 100bpm crawler with fat elastic synths strung up between lazy kicks. two filtered spoken word lines add plenty of weirdness to this soupy bit of cosmic seduction and round out an ep that is stuffed with fresh ideas and great sonic invention.

resolutely electronic, ambient and experimental with a techno key, küjuu delivers an exploration jerked and pulled about, meeting distance universes behind melodic songs found in first titles. percussions and harmonic beats makes travelling alongside a tumultuous path and at the same time, melancholic and & deep. sincerity and compositional skill, this ep takes mystery under an overpowering and rough deep bass made listening and elastic, propelling an evocative and ethereal line.

the mysterious talent antenna shows his tough, high impact house sound for his second release on the dutch pinkman label. first up, ‘childhood’ is a mid tempo bit of elastic, groove driven house with whirring machines, raw synth patterns and filtered, muffled vocals. hi hats add an incendiary element of pressure but really this one is all about the pinging, rubbery drums that flail like drunken limbs. ‘when i read my book’ is another purposeful offering riddled with melody and deep drums, slapping claps and lots of jittery cow bells, impish synth sounds and bass kills that brings a real sense of energy to proceedings. lastly, ‘in august’ is a tripped out cut with skipping kick drums, celestial and heavenly, glassy melodies and skittish percussion that all glide along in alluring and off kilter fashion. this is house music, but not as you know it!

next up on les disques de la mort, and we playing with all the preconceptions, once more. now we are slowing things down, and speeding them up. the word is elastic . we are back with our most psychedelic release to date and you are the first to be injected. rodion & mammarella are known for their strange hybrid of slow burning electronic disco but they have been on the mountain of truth. they saw the light. they flew off. on the remix duties toulouse low trax provides the dusseldorf angel dust to suspend you in time and space and flavien berger, the new wunder french kid, is on the opiate shuffle.

ben cohens *voyage to rahoz* is dappled with esoteric references invoking the hazy contours of the ever mystical inner zones. it delves gracefully into these realms with the opener *momentum*, which gives way to the mind-expanding workout that is *acid dreams*, a proper luscious piece. on the b-side, *play with humanity* is built around elastic percussive elements and an enigmatic looped-voice. the final cut is an adroit, if not buoyant, rework by the moscow’s top producer anton zap.

here one of his big hitters let me go feat. elif biçer gets remixed by deep house legend fred p, as well as leo cubanero and deadbeat. new york s soul people boss and underground talent fred p goes rst and unsurprisingly his track is spiritual and way below the surface, with emotive female vocal coos and skipping drums all laced up in mesmerising and soulful pads. then comes leo cubanero, who has been producing on label like festplatten and nachtfrequent since 2003, and he ips the track into a liquid tech house affair with libidinous vocals and freaky synths and pads that add as spooky air to proceedings. lastly, montrealer deadbeat lays down a sublime minimal dub remix that is gooey and lazy, elastic and seductive in all the right ways, especially when the sexy vocal comes in

for the a-side, fuse london resident antony difrancesco joins forces with dutch born ferro and opens up with the aggressive and hypnotic -des-, with its tough drums and mesmerising pads. next up is tini and the gang- regular, crocodile soup, who brings his deeper side into action on these shoes are made for walking , a track that is elastic and seductive and expertly arranged. david gtronic s signature drums and trippy pads then mark a stunning opening to the b-side on down the burrow and last but not least, he did closes the vinyl with -algunas palabras , a track with a mixture of minimalistic and natural sounds that make for compelling listening and perfectly showcase the he did sound. this is a classy ep from a label that the world needs to get behind as they continue to grow.

man of mystery, a sagittariun, may not be the first, nor the last, in a long lineage of techno producers to go undercover and under a veil of anonymity, but the west country artist doesnt use this cloak to stir up any hype, quite simply the music does the talking, and since 2011, has released a breath taking selection of music on his own elastic dreams label. and so the archer lands on hypeltd after only one other foray onto labels other than his own (2014s lost cities ep for secretsundaze).

following on from the the likes of the excellent son.sine re-issue, delsin kicks off 2015 with another one in the form of micronism s steps to recovery ep. originally released on nurture records in 1999, the ep, which comes in black and limited coloured vinyl, is a bonafide deep house classic from the short live career of new zealander denver mccarthy. engaging causelss mercy is a contemplative, atmospheric affair with soft drums and celestial pads that could roll and roll forever and you d never get tired. the quiet mind is just as deep, but the spiralling pads and rippling melodies here are more colourful and charming. both tracks are hugely spacious, luxurious affairs whilst constructing space on the flip is a more stripped back and humid number that is more enclosed and oppressive for cosy back room spaces. finally, the title track is a playful, elastic house track with heartwarming hooks and pinging drums. this tasteful ep shines a light on some definitively deep tracks that really do deserve the attention that will now inevitably come their way.

after releasing with chris moss acid on shipwreck in 2014, drvg cvltvre is now back with a full ep of his own on dutch label cos_mos. since 2009, vincent koreman a.k.a. drvg cvltvre has been churning out his own acid, no wave and experimental house on labels like viewlexx and permanent vacation and now kicks off the new year in style with three more inventive offerings. new earth army is a slow, heavyweight and coarse track with rattling chords, angry percussion and elastic drums that manages to be physical and tough yet groovy and playful at the same time. we have become the filth of the universe is a big, fat, heavy wedge of slow motion techno with monstrous drums and wild acid lines all spraying about wildly for the duration. it’s a warehouse sized track that will reduce the ‘floor to a writhing mess and finally possessed is a sci-fi riddled track with lots of spacey synths, filtered analogue lines and paranoid sirens all making for a turbulent brew of dark and otherworldly energy. once again here drvg cvltvre proves he has a raw sound all his own.

sam binga returns to drop his debut ep for critical music. inviting back the infamous redders for vocal duties, picking up where his trail blazing single ayo and the much loved lef dem from criticals underground sonics lp left off. a deft combination of low slung beats and bass with a nod to the jungle tradition.

the highly promising loopy opens its account with a double dose of disorientating, hypnotic botheration from nz-er oliver peryman, ex of labels like samurai horo, tri angle and exit. both cuts are curtly compelling: ss is darting and hyper, knecht more haunted, percussive. on the flip, kassem mosse contributes some elastic, bubbling funk, with characteristic panache, and oren ambarchi settles in for twelve minutes of the frighteners. an excellent ep. watch out for loopy.

dnaut is a brand new label launching with an ep from the mysterious collective mdec - music dance every chance. the first track *the treasure* is a spangled fusion of synths that variously rasp to shine, while the percussions lend a rough feel. the rubbery drums and bass line of *riz jungle* harks back to old school chicago. *hero* is a predatory, creeping and crawling house grove with a whispered voice to add yet more intrigue. *desire* featuring hayley blackman is a little more playful- rooted drums underpin elastic, swaggering percussive lines and a little disco dazzle is hiding in the subtle synth patterns. *glisten feathers* feat billy love closes the ep heartfelt style with a breathy male vocal. shimmering synths, lingering pads and tinkling pianos add color to the killer vocal.

argentinian dj and producer, ernesto ferreyra, provided cadenza with a rich and inspirational album back in 2010, the intricate and balanced el paraiso de las tortugas was a masterclass in minimal electronic dance. four years on, and ernesto returns to lucianos label with the insight single, and a precursor to another album for the label, slated for october release. voltage poem displays a huge progression for ernesto, a stomping, elastic backbeat, peppered with live percussion, shakers and micro glitches dances around the mechanical funk of the bassline.

for its first release of 2014, sammy dees ultrastretch label has called upon monsieur georget. youre forgiven if the name is unfamiliar. his bio offers few clues—he likes his bicycle, vin rouge and analog hardware, the latter of which was apparent on his recent debut for le loup and seuils hold youth label. bold and auspicious, the ep may have left you wondering if it was something more than a first record. and as it turns out, monsieur georget is none other than chris carrier, the long-active french purveyor of hypnotically minimal house.luckily we werent left waiting for very long for more material from carriers new alias. his second release, le vicieu / colle de la bonette, shows that monsieur georget and monsieur dee share an affinity for pared down, wonderfully elastic club tracks. like carriers best work, the compositions themselves are minimalist, but their hardware-based sound pallet ensures theres plenty of meat on the bones. a-side le vicieu is a subtly melodic shuffler, where deep bass growls at the core of an expansive drum set and whispers suffuse the negative space with mystery. on the flipside, colle de la bonette takes the sound someplace stranger and more psychedelic. whatever weird place were whisked off to, though, its every bit as funky, with brittle drums undulating to the kicks deliciously irregular throb. >monsieur georget< might be a brand-new name, but we’re willing to wager you ll quickly get to know these rollers well.

opening up the release is *der groove günther*, a stripped back bit of rubbery, supple techno. the groove sure is infectious, but it’s the way its detailed with such curious sounds – metal twangs, squelchy chords, icy hi-hats – that makes it so engaging. on the remix, tinush reimagnes the track as an even weirder thing. it’s all about micro-evolving details, subtle and inherent funk and keen sound design that is part shiny and stiff at the same time as being elastic and bendy.
