as weekend circuit approach their 20th release, argentinian duo yyyy return for their second full length ep on the label to celebrate this benchmark. the yyyy modus operandi is already familiar to the initiated - expressive, raw techno experimentalism from the outer reaches. carry this blood is a collection of 4 moods and sounds, carved out with emotion soaked ambience, synapse flaring distortion and machine fracturing rhythms. repent , as the title suggests, takes no prisoners, leaving no survivors in it s wake, it is a glimpse into a tear in the time-space continuum where chaos rules. hands towards the giver is epic, glacial, spacial widescreen techno. dramatic and urgent, the soundtrack to a doomed planet collapsing from within. carry this blood bestows an eerie, cold feeling. an atmosphere of regret and loss hangs over it like a thick fog on a hillside, punctuated only by a heartbeat mimicking kick drum offering a human touch. of thrones and comfort snaps us out of the haze, the fog clears and we are faced with the frenzied electronics and thundering kick drum of this most sinister of tracks.

florian is back on l.i.e.s. with another massive release. this one runs the gamut from the epic pwog styled opener contact, to industrialized beat track of random chaos to stepping broken techno on closing track z as we hear the artist further evolving and exploring his sound. by far his most diverse and mature release to date.

emerging through storm-like waves of distortion, opener �alpha� sets the scene for this beguiling cassette release, with melodies rising out of � and then descending back into � the chaos. �3000 years� takes vocal samples as a starting point, before melting into layer upon layer of delay, after which �confounded� picks up the pace with its heavily distorted beats and the side then closes to the sound of a distant choir burning in acidic ambience in the shape of �fruitless clicking�. the nightmarish, malfunctioning machinery vibes continue onto the second side, with the more dance oor-friendly �strange conversations� and �the brink� bookended by the two-part ambient epic �pale blue dot�. dark, glitchy, and at times outright uncomfortable � perfectly suited to the cassette format.

�umwelt�s 12inch �� city� from 1999 was one of the most impressive 12inches i had at that time and i played the shit out of it. it was dark and very emotional, it was abstract but also driving at the same time. this was 1999 though, before discogs and before facebook and all the other platforms people have now to do research on artists they like and follow their work. at that time it was the record shop � and that was it. nobody knew this guy though, and i didn�t get my hands on any of the following releases, so in my world there was no follow-up to this record ever and i thought it would remain a one-off gem in my record box. until by some coincident i recently discovered he was still around and had actually released numerous releases in the meantime. i was very excited and contacted him straight away and ended up booking him for krake festival in the same year. undoubtedly his set was one of the best of the whole festival! he took the roof off the place with his mix of raw electro, industrial and rave and everybody was talking about it afterwards, saying it was the highlight of the festival! talking to him i learnt, that most of the tracks he played were his own, mostly unreleased. he produces without computers, all his tracks are single takes, there is no editing, no mixing afterwards, he only has a stereo track recording which is what it is. he owns a cutting machine which he uses to cut dubplates from his tracks, which he then plays out during his sets. this whole information about this very unique artistic approach just killed it for me, and since working with him was so nice as well, i asked him for a demo for killekill and its labels and was hoping for tracks i could make a great 12&#8243,, of. i got 14 tracks and after weeks of trying to pick the best, i finally realized i held one of the best electro albums ever in my hand � banging beats and the balls to go big and epic, subtle melodies, drama, funk � this album has got it all, and what�s most important, the music on it is the exact opposite of so much other music nowadays: it is emotional, it tells a story, it is easily recognizable and it is not interchangeable. it�s just umwelt.� nico deuster

following the success of �ride� with miss kittin, eminent sci+tec founder dubfire returns with another chaos-conjuring techno composition. previously the sole-preserve of his epic sense-blurring hybrid show, dubfire is finally unleashing �dust devil�� his first solo release in several years, �dust devil� is all about precision momentum. a move that dubfire�s made his signature, you can physically feel movement and destination throughout. especially as we reach the short breakdown where the riff revolves faster and higher, providing space for the echoed stabs that whirl and twist around you intensely. as the drums re-ignite, the riff is suddenly converted into groove energy as the jack-minded persistence brings the elements back together with pure focus. this is what ali has to say� �this was an instrumental i had done that i wasn�t quite sure what to do with. it wasn�t strong enough for a lead single and it always felt as though there was something missing, perhaps a spoken or sung vocal. so i sort of put it out of my mind until it was time to compile the music for the hybrid show back in the summer of 2013. once i had the backbone of the set list, along with the visual look, there seemed to be a more defined mood and look. and when i happened upon this track again it seemed to have been tailor-made for this show. it was also nice to insert something no one had heard before to break things up a bit.

the a side is delivered by label-mate thomas muller, whose finely detailed techno soundscapes can now be enjoyed on five bpc 12 inch releases. his >immolate< remix takes a much more direct approach. he reduces the lush arrangement of the original to a powerful basic framework, leaves out the vocals almost entirely, and creates a surprise when the track crumbles into sonic chaos towards the end.
miss fitz aka maayan nidam has had singles released on labels including raum musik and freak n chic, and these have been remixed by renowned artists such as ricardo villalobos. her version of >immolate< also makes a clear break from the album track and serves up her very own brand of abstract, dancefloor-friendly house. once again, all the opulence of the original is thrown overboard, a dry beat is placed at the centre of the arrangement and enriched with sinuous vocals.
ben klock needs no further introduction - he is the epitome of the bleak, hard minimal sound. his album >one< is currently available on ostgut ton, and as a remixer he has earned the highest acclaim for his version of depeche modes >peace<. bens >jack mix< is fittingly titled and lives up to all the expectations of the name. the track is stripped back to a resounding, hammer-like beat framework - minimised for maximum effect.
bpitch legend sascha funke delivers a surprise with another astoundingly reduced remix, at least by his standards. he turns away from the melodic richness of his current album >mango< in favour of repetitive fragments and an extended arc of tension which will surely make his >immolate< remix a massive after-hour hit.

after the well received dvk remixes subsitenz thought its only fitting to pair up one of dnbs hardest and bulgarias biggest export cooh with the two south london stow aways dvk. there fruits of their labor as you would expect is fooking insane. off the leash is not for the faint hearted or pregnant a relentless driver of a track with beats that mutate and evolve constantly over subs fatter than dawn frenchs ass. with the signature dvk rolling percs and pumping side chained filth matched with coohs lethal arrangements and movement of beats off the leash is one pissed pit bull in a poodle parlor. once bitten twice shy is a techy affair still relentless to the core with all the twist and turns that are synonymous to the likes of cooh and dvk. filthy stabs and hits are thrown manically around like a poltergeist having an epileptic fit in a china shop adding chaos to the already frantic bass and grooves. the main heart to his puppy is banged home half way through of its unnatural life were it warps from chilled pads to a nodders delight. dvk and cooh have started the fire and will be back to fuel it very soon!

likely ep is tims first release on tiefschwarzs souvenir label. lead track alike sounds like ivan smagghe jamming with richie hawtin in a warehouse rave in london, skirting a line between futuristic tech house and discerning electro. a live bassline holds down the groove as a trickling bleepy melody develops throughout the track. as more and more layers of elaborate sonic trickery are laid down, a driving snare jacks out the groove further before a series of effects laden breakdowns tighten the tension further and further. cowbells take the second phase of the track ever taughter before the groove emerges into a stabbing hook and pulsating synth noises that drive the dancefloor into blissed out oblivion. subtle vocals tease the ears in the background of the final strung out breakdown, never quite dominating the tune before the jacking bass and kick drop back in. �unlike shares a similar vibe for mixing live instruments with plug in madness. live sounding bassline and guitar lines open the track and roll out the groove before the main synth hook takes over. as the track rolls in and out of its breakdowns it lurches between reverb heavy, bleepy chaos and futuristic rhythms. think depeche mode writing an experimental instrumental on the moon in 2012 and youre halfway there. like many french artists these days tim lives and works in london and also collaborates with fellow frenchies ivan smagghe and dante eprom. he first caught the attention of vinyl sleuths with his excellent remix of db (8)s future now in 2004 and now runs his own label marketing music as well as pushing the boundaries of spacey electro flavoured tech house with his own solo material.
