synth mistress lakaband launches her label mekalaka with the electronic goodness of >i have to dance<. after years spent honing her craft at her base in east london surrounded by analogue gear lakaband is now ready to deliver her own unique take on electronic dance. starting things in fine style, the title track blends raw drum machine rhythms with bubbling 303, off kilter synths and understated vocals to create a paean to the call to dance. on remix duties is elusive dissident recording artist gweilo, turning in a pulsing, synthetic disco dub. rolling bassline and a tough linn drum groove underpin the chopped up fx drenched vocals. with plenty of future releases lined up there is much, much more to come from lakaband. stay tuned

the third instalment of the apres vinyl series explores the indie disco dimensions of future classics 2 year old sunday afternoon session in sydney. when we commissioned gemma smith to produce four artworks for the series this angular and intense piece sat well with the spiky hot chip meets junior boys disco punk funk of melbourne 3 piece clubfeet. it also worked with adelaides sidwho, another promising newcomer whos recent 12inch on cage & aviarys the walls have ears imprint got rave reviews from horse meat disco, mock & toof, tim sweeney and optimo to name a few. millionaire is an early taster of the pop sensibilities of sids forthcoming solo album with future classic. sids also a member of the modular signed live disco act the swiss. chad and nathan took some time out from the future classic hq to turn in a remix of millionaire together with good friend bryan o callaghan who also happens to be head chef at the tilbury where aprÞs is held. bryan quickly became a firm friend of future classic after mudd and aeroplane were booked for sets at apres with bryan seeking us out, immediately impressing us with his unparalleled knowledge of rare disco and groove. last but definitely not least (since it made the a1) came pink frosts remix of evening star by another local sydney band todd sparrow. after a heavy vinyl digging session at redeye records,the stores vinyl buyer scott, handed nathan a cdr and the call was made then and there and we had our third apres release - an intentionally all australian installment!

tube10 returns to the scene again with a release to blow your minds away. this time its the greek formation ekelon. their debut on planet mu with headhunter on mary anne hobbs evangeline had us in our grasp so much that we couldnt help ourselves then to hit them up and see what whould happen. tube10 005 is the result of this encounter and it shows ekelon flexing their crossover sound like no other. is it techno? is it dubstep? we dont know but we sure as hell love both tunes to bits!
the a side evidence - a steady tune in the ekelon sets and lots of others aswell. feel this tune filling up the speakers and rumbling up those subs we thought where lost.. a perfect blend between all that is experimental while keeping it dj friendly..flip it over for freeze land.. an chilled out tundra of techno, thats how we like to call it.. frozen subs combined with defrosted stepping vibes ensures this to be a solid first release for the ekelon boys.. and dont worry this wont be their last!
