meda fury welcomes tom wrankmore aka eliphino to the imprint for a stunning ep of thunderous breaks, 303’s and serious sub-bass pressure. hailing originally from the leeds, but with wider travels to settle down in both london and berlin, wrankmore’s music embraces hip-hop, rave, and uk garage. he now serves up a pungent confection pitched between the hessle audio crew, joy o and demdike stare’s most recent efforts. having released heaters for brownswood and hoya hoya over the years, eliphino now debuts as part of the meda fury family with the realistic sex ep. wrankmore has been locked away in his studio for the last 1.5 years, abstaining from gigging and releasing records to knuckle down and produce, emerging with a new darker edge and a much more hardcore sound. tom explains: “the theme of the ep is trusting your intuition in an information flooded world. i’ve collaborated with visual artists tom pounder & jon harris who have created two videos for the release, one for disc rhythm and one for realistic sex.- meda fury boss nick williams, “tom s new music epitomises to me what modern club tracks should sound like - wild, energetic, deadly. he’s discovered his own dark new world of sound fusing breakbeat, acid, speed garage and even industrial stylings”

a stalwart of the uk underground & dance music scene, simbad’s music and dj skills have brought him to perform and record on all of the continents over the last decade. as a very sought after producer that still collaborates with the likes of fred p, deetron, roots manuva, lulu james, dayme arocena, mala (dmz), gilles peterson (six albums produced for gilles legendary brownswood label) to name a few, he’s been also remixing for countless other artists worldwide and has a vast array of releases on various imprints like apron, hyperdub, sofrito, bbe etc. “reconnect” remained a dubplate amongst a handful broken beat dj’s for years until simbad decided to release it on swedish brandy productions, a label that has been fairly constant in putting out timeless underground dance music since nearly two decades. remixes by the mighty boddhi sattva and concept e25 included.

copenhagens terry tester (brownswood / bbe) merges his love for midwest house and cosmic funk butter on four-tracker space million for creak inc., journeying through dream state deep house, gritty mpc workouts and low-end boogie territory for an undeniably original take on four-to-the-floor rhythms. within terry testers two-decade long career as a turntablist and beatmaker his eminent take on house, hiphop and soul has been commissioned by gilles petterson for his ‘bubblers’ compilation series on brownswood recordings, jahi featuring american neo-soul singer dwele, and marc mac (4hero, visioneers, nu era) on bbe remixing alongside dj jazzy jeff, as well as releasing two full-length solo albums horses and diamonds and short suite.

the 4th edition in the acclaimed sterns edits series sees curator ben gomori open up the sterns music catalogue to other keen re-editors with brownswood / worldwide genius smbd (aka simbad) the first to step up to the plate. nigeria s segun adewale is sometimes referred to as the crown prince of jùjú music, but in the 1980s he developed a sound all of his own, which he called yo-pop. a mixture of jùjú, funk, reggae, afrobeat and jazz, its vibrant melange can be heard on his 1986 record ojo je , where both these originals are taken from. smbd delivers too superb flips of the title track a gritty funk-fuelled disco version with live bass, and a deliciously deep dub-house version. gomori, meanwhile, takes the haunting atewo-lara ka tepa mo se for an extended hypnotic, tribal trip. the stunning artwork comes from kofi ankobra, the son of radical white south africans who grew up in ghana and studied art at oshogbo, nigeria the place adewale himself was born. sterns edits is an official collaboration between african music stalwarts sterns music and londons ben gomori.

vienna-based producer sam irl popped up on our radar a couple of years ago following stellar releases on jazz & milk, but honestly we should have been paying far closer attention as this guy has been making the best crunchy, mpc-driven jazz-infused house music dating right back to 2006. ep’s for s3a’s sampling as an art and collaborative projects with patrick pulsinger and dusty have won him fans including gilles peterson (leading to a release on brownswood), mr scruff and session victim amongst many others. his live sets have also seen him perform at the hallowed grounds of panorama bar and sonar festival. for his debut ep here on freerange sam has delivered four tracks which perfectly showcase his production skills and knowledge of what makes a dance floor tick, kicking off with title track rain technique. quirky keys and a playful groove help build a warm and charming vibe, light and bouncy yet deep and driving enough to get your dance on to. trust follows with loping, lopsided percussion forming the basis of the groove, sparse rhodes pads punctuating the beat and adding just the right musical element to the mix without cluttering the beats or compromising the sense of space. flipping over we have all thats left which sees sam utilising his trusted tr606 for some lovely snappy snares and sizzling hihats. chiming arpeggios join the repeating chord riff creating another simple yet uplifting and playful mood which cant fail to get under your skin. closing the ep we have a wonky, shuffling house track which once again shows sam proving less is more, sampling his key elements into the mpc and jamming out the arrangement in a live and improvised way which brings a fresh, somewhat naive appeal to the production.

since his appearance on soccer96s jupiter masterdrive edits ep (alongside danny krivit and glenn astro flips, also on wotnot ) in 2015, and subsequent eps on wotnot, monologues and sgol, danvers has swiftly become a name to pay attention to. as a regular appearance on co-ops selectors assemble, both live and on their recent comp vol. 2, he s established himself as a new and original voice on the broken beat scene. his recent the future is broken mix series highlights his ear for unconventional dance music, something that makes him extremely at home on the wildly creative wotnot (thanks dj mag). the opening two tracks are strongly in the broken beat vein. mason opens with dreamy, rhodes jazz over a bruk beat with rolling snare fills, lulling us into a false sense of security before switching to an offbeat but irresistible squelchy synth groove. similarly, in aye ata the pulsing chord that slowly grows out of the beat suddenly turns the track around with a rhythmic twist, showing the playful broken beat in a whole new light. there s a house touch throughout the ep, none more so than in 1997, where a bouncing kick, soulful claps and a booming sub provide a steadier basis for laid back rhodes chords and dreamy spoken word samples. as a big influence on danvers music, frits wentink is welcomed onto remix duty with open arms. the wolf music regular brings an otherworldly vibe to his take on 1997 , with enchanting but almost disorienting chord swells and spiralling vocal fx punctuated with crisp snare rolls. the ever-busy danvers recently launched 38 east , a studio space and music community, with warren xlnce . warren s remix of 1997 was a surprise gift to his business partner and collaborator, and is a deeper house cut, joe armon jones (brownswood) rhodes jam over the track bringing a distinct peckham flavour. dj support from ig culture, andwot (touching bass), neue grafik & evm128 (co-op) t williams

he blueprints ep marks the welcome return of the talented toulouse based producer redeyes. following a number of releases on seminal labels such as bingo, creative source, innerground and brownswood in the mid 2000s, redeyes then decided to take a step back from music production. now returning as a more complete and mature artist, his blueprints ep on lenzman’s the north quarter imprint sends an exciting message of where julien salvi stands in 2017. comprising of an ambitious nine tracks, redeyes’ blueprints ep showcases his exquisite musicianship and ability in the studio throughout each piece of music. in true north quarter style, he effortlessly breaks down the boundaries between drum & bass and hip hop, whilst fully maintaining the soulful and heartfelt aesthetic that he is known and revered for. the release sees him join forces with a plethora of exciting talent. ‘100 porsches to the stars’ brings him together with underground la rap hero hus kingpin for a lo-fi hip hop masterclass. he also collaborates with mancunian don black josh, children of zeus’ infamous tyler daley, north quarter chief lenzman, and many more.

fresh of the back of his recent environments ten release on xvi records, south london based producer and brownswood future bubblers alumni munro returns to his own imprint arken records, bringing a few friends along for the ride. following on from his debut arken records 12-, (a limited- to 100 run which gained him support from the likes of bradley zero, jimpster & more) munro enlists the help of long time friends um river & bard, and fellow future bubblers participant revenu, delivering four upfront, forward-thinking and uncompromising tracks. from the deep, acid driven, broken beats of bards -tatala- to the cavernous, unrelenting energy of munro s -fall- - each cut seems to feed from the energy of the other, twisting and turning into constantly unexpected directions. a dark modular synthesis induced atmosphere hangs heavy throughout the record creating an almost dystopian soundscape at times. it s overpowering grooves transmit through empty space, perfect for soundtracking moments of nocturnal transcendence.

next up on xvi records, we welcome back south london based producer munro for his second release. having recently participated in the brownswood future bubblers project, he brings his signature heavily percussive flavour to these two perfectly crafted tracks. first track miss your love is a shuffling, soulful, groove laden voyage - its sliding synths and wandering bass line provide a solid backdrop foe its iconic vocal ideal for those late night dance floor moments. on the flip,‘environments ten embarks on a deeper, more atmospheric journey. its scattered, layered drums patterns join together in a thick wall of rhythm, setting the scene for uplifting joyous melodies to slowly elevate above, reverberating around the outer realms of expansive production.

having produced some stellar jams for labels like somethink sounds, and giles petersons brownswood, eliphino aka tom wrankmore, debuts for hypercolour this autumn, opening up the labels new term with this solid two track release. i dont care opens the account, all chopped up rnb vox and rolling beats, wrapped up in a super smooth melody. already road tested by the hypercolour firm over the last few months, this deep garage vibe hits the sweet spot for sure. on the flip, understand further plunders eliphinos love of rugged garage beats and an ear for a catchy hook. a feverish interplay of vocal chops, keys and organ stabs keeps up the ante, with some decidedly trancey synth parts ramping up the 90s house influences here, and once again a cut that most definitely brings the heat to the dancefloor.

jack dixon, a london-based electronic artist draws influences from wolfgang voigt, mutant disco, autechre and tim hecker. quite an array of jumping off points and ones which are clearly evident throughout his intricate productions. his productions sound as much at home on a heaving, sweat-soaked, educated dance floor as they do on headphones in the sleepy urban half-light on the night bus home. from his earliest releases on brownswood, take, and silverback, jack has found love and support from amongst others mary anne hobbs, joy orbison, will saul, sinden and eats everything.

after the >decade ep<, which featured four original tracks from london/berlin duo jack dixon & robin card, comes a diverse package of remixes, courtesy of brownswood recordings eliphino, label mainstay (and >new jack swing< producer) james fox, and newcomers colo.

man make musics second release is a collaboration between two talented londoners, jack dixon and rick grant. having already made waves with individual releases on labels such as brownswood, hypercolour and take, these two good friends now offer up a pair of brilliantly off-kilter house tracks. >running man< is a heady mix of skipping percussion and caressing juno synth-lines, whilst, on the flip, >muted< takes a more understated, melancholic turn, counterbalancing the ecstatic nature of the a-side. jack and ricks contributions are also offset by kevin mcphees weird and wonderful slow-mo interpretation of >running man<. the remix blends vocals drenched in reverb with creeping piano riffs and shows yet another musical side of a man garnering plaudits from all corners for his unique style.

following on from releases on manchester based hoya hoya and giles petersons brownswood label, london based producer/dj - eliphino - has found his finest form to date with this new ep >more than me<. low down, deep and dirty house music for the clubs, released on limited edition vinyl via somethinksounds. the full ep features three low slung dancefloor bangers - more than me, devoted and i-played - fuzzy, warm and atmospheric. eliphino switches up the style but never fails to dazzle.

for the second release on ki records we invited a very special and talented artist from japan to join our label. daisuke tanabe, who studied art in tokyo and london, has been producing music for the last 13 years. various releases on zero dbs fluid ounce label and an impressive amount of remixes for gilles peterson’s brownswood imprint have proven daisuke tanabes versatility and talent for modern experimental electronic music. as a live act and dj, he performed with gilles peterson, onra, tim exile, hudson mohawke and clark. we decided to dare a leap into a more experimental way by publishing his outstanding flowers on a wall. the four-track ep will be released in august 2009 (500 copies ww on limited vinyl), simultaneously to his first album on japans circulation records.

emerging from the endless summers of venice, california to team up with shlohmo, jonwayne, d33j, rl grime and more to form the wedidit crew, jasper patterson aka groundislava has transformed from bashful video gamer to full-fledged composer. groundislava has roots that draw from 80s nostalgia, tv and pop culture that grow and transform into the 21st century aesthetic of electronic music. recently tapped for official remixes of slugabed and shlohmo as well as kutmahs brownswood compilation, groundislava returns with the feel me lp, the follow-up full-length to his self-titled 2011 debut.

steve bug - innovator, minimal dance connoisseur, tech house master - though he s been given many prestigious titles, if theres one quality that can be best attributed to steve bug, it would be modesty. its a trait that has followed him throughout his illustrious career, from his early days as a child building guitars out of cardboard, to his early lessons in percussion at school to his beginnings as a mixtape dj to his first productions. despite the fact that hes now largely regarded as one of the founding fathers of minimal - creating his >da minimal funk< compilation over 10 years ago - and one of the most sought-after 4/4 djs booked today, bug remains truly humble when reflecting on the majestic rise from his beginnings as a dancefloor-dwelling clubber in bremen, germany to ruling his renowned dessous/poker flat empire in berlin.
