in 2011 when mad mats and tooli went to sonar festival in barcelona they met ludovic llorca aka art of tones outside a club. little did they know back then that two years later on they would release a 12 inch together. the same thing ep opens with the title track and kicks pretty damn sweet with its strong vocal, the guitar, bass and rhodes jamming on top of a tight groove, there is also a dub version included on the b-side. last but not least, the great sgatmi is a jazzy and bumpy house take with lots of samples perfectly balanced. all in all, classic art of tones material and the work of a producer firing on all cylinders.

ghostek is a russian garage and techno producer currently residing in moscow. he has previously released vinyl on other heights and shiprec, and has collaborated with rooflight as ghostlight, releasing a 12 inch on styrax. a prolific producer, his tracks have created a substantial online fan base, with some of his productions reaching tens of thousands of plays. he runs the digital label squared harmony. the *no way out ep* is composed of four tracks, two very garage leaning, two more towards techno, all reminiscent of londons music scene, despite the producers russian location. the dark atmosphere of the music is reflected in the artwork and track names across the release. sub squared is a new label, a sub-label of project squared which has a back catalogue including tracks by kowton, and, asusu and tom dicicco. the aim of this new label is to represent the taste of one of the two founders of project squared.

messalina records return with a fantastic ep of eclectic dancefloor bubblers from fellow we love space residents jamie fatneck low and lucci capri (aka dj callum). first up is the eagerly awaited vinyl release of fatnecks incredible acid rework of michael jacksons classic billie jean, highly in-demand since receiving heavy rotation from greg wilson (the only dj lucky enough to have a copy) who nicely sums the track up...i love the way fatneck has put a somewhat psychotic twist on billie jean via his acid interpretation - inspired west yorkshire wacko madness! next up lucci capri delivers the quirky balearic chugger dame un beso, with super-sweet latino lyrics and a great reggae-influenced swing. flip over for the beautifully understated because today i saw u which melds a cool deep house groove with esther phillips yearning vocals. rounding off the ep in style is fatnecks superb dancefloor-friendly edit of the aretha franklin version what a fool believes. great stuff - welcome back messalina!

on uncanny valley s catalogue number 18 we finally welcome back credit 00 who is a man in charge of a decent collection of those dusty machines we all love. after the ice cold the living room life ep from 2012, his brand new record ice cream is easy to fall in love with. packed with tunes to suit various moods in life, it will be a faithful companion in dark basements or lonesome hours. ice cream starts deliciously with its sleazy sample choice. with the distinctive drum work it builds up to a true chicago-inspired dance floor banger. round n round hits hard with a harsh kick and cowbell action before it shows off slightly melancholic lead synths and a subtle but effective bass line and puts the emphasis on the fact that things go round and round. life s a dizzy affair. east of nowhere with that bass line-sound is credit 00 to the core. and with spooky synths he puts you to an east of nowhere-place where you will lose yourself in manic trance-like dancing. the record ends with red wine , a slightly different electronic love song sung by credit 00. the cover artwork was created by alexander dorn.

decoy07 takes a deeper turn with the third act ep. miss sunshine (kms, monocline, tictactoe) has been working flawlessly in the studio for the past six years and this ep is no exception. third act is a heavy workout of riding bells and an old-school synth line which grooves its way through percussion builds and changes. intimidate is deeper and darker with a chugging groove and twisting effects growing into a more graceful melody. ground loop captures miss sunshines more ambivalent mood with a haunting groove that is perfect for those basement techno moments. markus suckut (figure, sckt)supplies the remix with his interpretation of ground loop, taking it more minimal and stripped back but maintaining the groove in his own familiar style.
