crash course in science are a post punk band that formed in 1979 in philadelphia. the band members, dale feliciello, mallory yago and michael zodorozny, met while attending art school, where they began to experiment with crude electronics and off-beat lyrics. ccis avoided conventional instrumentation by using toy instruments and kitchen appliances to augment the distorted guitar, drums and synthesized beats.

remerc is no new face to the scene. he has been active for quite some time in the german techno scene and has recently remixed butchs track >muskatnuss< on the trapez ltd 100 anniversary compilation. he had his breakthrough in 2010 with the track >tiny calf< which ended up on the cocoon compilation >party animals< mixed by marco carola and nick curly. remerc opens his release with >ruhewolf<, a restless funkedelic rocker with a beat that juggles elements in a loose and totally cool way. the track is spiced up with elements of surreal bliss and could go on forever were there not the limitations of the vinyl. on the flipside we find an hanne & lore remix that tightens and fattens up the beat and pimps up the basslines. adding some twisted sounds ... making it a clubber par excellence. >just a bards tale< is a unique remerc track and stands out from all the productions he has done so far. here new wave coloured edgy vocals meet a post-detroit string-chord arrangement. sounds adventurous and daring? well it is to some degree... but recall >no more words< by carl craig from 1991 but executed in a dead modern way.

>mustang< is a perfect techno track, it sums up what a whole techno night could be like. it is a fast track but also a deep cool track, when the chords join in one gets close to heaven. it is also a track that changes gear and has a nicefeeling for controlling the pace perfectly. the unbeatable cool alex under beat and 3d sound experiments that sound as if ice cubes were rotating in a tumbler make it a super track.
>charger< is a massive track! the track seems to suck up air to created a vacuum and also sounds a bit as if there was a problem with the ignition of the charger! once it gets going it is indeed a heavy rocking track!>firebird< is a fat sounding house track, which can be plaid by house djs as well as techno djs using a cool walking bassline and a super tight slapping snare and cool house vocals on top of it! starting housy the track develops into a hi energy, appegiator driven track showing alex unders talent for moving genres skilfully from one end to the other! this is a great track!

at first sight, *100 ep* is the most abrasive techno output of portland duo asss. following their acclaimed singles on haunted air records, alex smith and sean sumler have crafted an excellent four-track assault of propulsive drum sounds filled with industrial textures. across the frequencies of *101* to *104*, dense dynamics and unpredictable manipulation of modules reflect their own spontaneous, improvisational style into a new highly destructive release. comes with insert.

high mobility weapons unit sets off from an unknown location on earth, making its maiden voyage beyond our solar system and towards a distant galaxy. the transverse velocity ep is the debut release on the self-titled imprint, serving up four original tracks that are heavily influenced by mechanical cycles and deep space concepts. the a-side kicks off with the eps title track transverse velocity, where an array of eroded satellite bleeps and waves loop together as the analogue low-end pulsates rhythmically below. in wave 102 the bleeps are detuned and erratically timed, with a glitchy tape delay unit modulating them throughout the track. the saturated 808 kick drum and processed percussion are given a functional structure, allowing the bleeps to take centre stage. on the b-side, both cycle 01 and astronomy tool serve as stripped-back percussive dj tools. cycle 01 rolls along with its hollow, muted polyrhythmic stab line, whilst astronomy tool drives forward with an effective, crystalline synth hit. mastered by black monolith studios.
