this new promising imprint starts with an fulminant various artists ep with tracks by ma.to, sukaz & lorenzo chiabotti.

for their second release on the label, dgtl records asked another one of its festival shows regulars: fort romeau. after playing at three different dgtl editions, and an upcoming fourth during ade, the organization also wanted to propagate his sound with an ep on their imprint. the release consists of two multi-layered compositions, untitled ii and a familiar place, and will be available on the 13th of october.

during the mid-80s and early 90s movin� records defined the new jersey sound. a skate-shop-turned-record-store run by the so-called �fairy godmother of house� abigail adams, movin�s first output was �i�ve got the music� by boyd jarvis in 1987, followed by music from game changers blaze, kerri chandler, tony humphries and smack, straight up �jersey jams� that producers are still attempting to replicate to this day. still the movin� records catalogue throws up gems that sound super fresh along with plenty of lightbulb moments of musical discovery.
for the most part movin� records focused on soulful vocal tracks but they peppered a few deeper tracks into the catalogue too. this is one of those releases and one of the rarer titles to find from the label. produced by steve kelly and steve �lucky� benson as 3 a.m., this was the only single under that group name, although they were involved in other productions from new jersey. deep chords, a heavy kick and a low-end bass form the backing for the repeated vocal line �i love this place�. the �place of worship� mix brings an uplifting piano line to the forefront, whilst an organ line jams out through the track with a jazzy walking bassline holding the groove together.

if psychic health s self-titled debut album took the lessons the la duo learned in the teeming clubs of berlin and melbourne, their latest lp, exclusion, look inward, a document of the duo tunneling down the studio wormhole. as such, exclusion is a remarkably dynamic effort, adeptly jumping between evocative ambience (-jamaica 88,- -ryso-) and equally expansive dance floor fair. examples of the latter, such as the album s obvious centerpiece and titular track, exclusion, document gabriel mounsey and devon steffens�s harnessing modular beast technology for peak techno utility, finding a clear thoroughfare between the soaring strings of derrick may s classic transmat releases and ostgut ton s current ebm-inflected precision. as you d expect from mounsey s background in film composition, exclusion whirls with imagery. it s a los angeles album, but focuses on raw beauty of the city at night�the lights in the distance, and the desolate downtown streets where kickdrums often waft from disused warehouses. while their debut album opened notable doors for the group, landing distribution from hard wax and featuring in the netflix series sense8, exclusion is an altogether masterful turn for psychic health, their complete studio immersion easing the listener into deeply hypnotic states.

exchange place is the dj collective that includes nicuri himself alongside joey anderson, dj qu and a producer by the name of art gallery. the name makes reference to a district in downtown jersey city, just across the river from manhattan, which is where the crew is primarily based. they released a 12-inch under the name exchange place with dj qu s strength music label back in 2010, and have dj d occasionally as a group around new york city. the new ep, immaculate inception, includes one track from each of the four contributors.

(not very mystical of course for those who know the history of detroit techno. unique track from a unique project... and there are not many projects with tribe in its name. their release on retroactive is one detroit techno collector items). one of those records that get you through the day. classic!!! re-issue on the clone aqualung series with new artwork.

there is little information available about the band, but the �living funk� documentary changes all that. now the music does the talking here with the extremely rare, no-nonsense funk jazz instrumentals �let your mind take the place of your body� parts 1 & 2.

the main ingredient is the second album by pete rock & cl smooth, originally released in 1994. characterized by sultry soul and jazz samples, the album saw a more polished sound than the duo�s debut �mecca & the soul brother� movlp1633, building on the praise that they had already garnered. the main ingredient is notable for its snappy, crispy drums and extensive use of vocal scratches. it contains some of the duo�s best known work, in the form of tracks such as the upbeat �in the house�, and the catchy �sun won�t come out�, which features a lush vocal sample from the song of the same name by harvey scales.

tzusing returns to l.i.e.s. with his third and (final?) name out of place ep after two now sought after percusors leading up to this one. again we are not disappointed as the massive opener face of electric hits hard taking a typical breakbeat formula and adding some sort of bizarre ritualistic element like the zulu nation or george kranz in a ceremony at a steel factory. emotional eater slows the tempo down, but again the machines grind hard with tinges of acid, heavy rhythms and sparse vocals moving in and out, while the closer r is a stripped down beater made for mixing. top stuff from the in demand producer.
